History:
Sling comes from a town in the Carolinas so small it's hardly even called a town. If you're one of the northern folk who knows there's more than one Carolina, you might as well just pick your best guess - by the time you ask which one, he's most likely hitched a ride on another train of thought.

Which is exactly how he got up to these parts. Well, not trains so much. Okay, no trains hitched at all. He drove til his car gave out (rest the good ol girl's soul), then walked a good little ways, then hitched on up to the border. He'd planned on going out to California, but no one was heading that way when he was asking, so he took what he could get. Same went for living arrangements, which was working out pretty fine til the fella whose couch he was borrowing didn't turn up for supper.

Back home he was a mudslinging champion, which was how he got his name. Couldn't hardly keep the girls off of him, but he's too much of a gentleman to let that sorta thing fly. There's not a lick of truth in that claim about the girls, but that's still how he tells it, always with a wink and a heaping helping of sweet Southern charm.

"Aw hell."

Mama told him there'd be days like this. Always went something like 'the end of days a-comin' Looord take me take me Jesus up in heaven', and can't anyone do nothing to stop it. He hadn't ever planned to--not really--and that wasn't why he'd up and left neither, but the timing was a bit grand, considering.

He sure as s**t wasn't gonna call her up and tell her she's right though. Even if he wanted to, the phone was busted all to s**t.

There weren't a hell of a lot of options when you'd just slammed the door in some zombie's face, after you'd opened it with the guess that the weird bumping and scratching was just one real hungover roommate. Especially when all the noises didn't stop, which got him to thinking that he was gonna need a way out of here faster than a jackrabbit with a hound on its a**. He wished his only problem was a hunting dog right now. Dogs were easy to handle, but zombies, no sir. Can't reason with no zombie. Everyone knew that.

Might better keep himself from being too foolish, he thought, and the best way of doing that was right here in front of him. He popped off the cap of a cold bottle of beer with the edge of the table and kicked his feet up, helping himself to a generous first swig.

Anyone could tell you that's the best start for game hunting, and the season was officially on.
