The past 24 hours had been a blur, and even now, Dani didn't know what was happening anymore. The noise had startled her, and made her grow fearful. Were they approaching? Surely that couldn't be good. They were out in the open, exposed, and-
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, shaking slightly. A minute passed. Two. Nothing. All she heard was the sound of fireworks exploding above, a somewhat soothing sound amid all the chaos. Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad this time...
The fear turned to hope, as Dani looked upwards. Perhaps this could be a sign? No undeads or undyings, and... fireworks... it was almost like a celebration. Maybe there was a chance they'd be able to make it out of this alive?
Pushing herself up, Dani made her way towards the light, pausing when she saw what exactly it led to. A... casino?
Taking a deep breath, she exhaled, and pushed the door open.

Dani couldn't remember the last time she had been to a casino, as it was not something she considered frequenting often, but the moment the doors open, her eyes watered and she coughed. The overwhelming smoke and smell of alcohol made her nauseous, but she supposed being inside provided some sort of shelter, and would probably be better than being out in the open, where... who knows what was out there.
A quick glance around didn't seem to bring anything out of the ordinary to attention, until she was greeted by a fancy attendant with an expensive-looking cocktail. Knowing better than to take random drinks from strangers, she politely declined, and wanted to decline taking the casino coins as well, until it was insisted she take them. It wasn't like she was planning on playing any games... or staying here for long. At least, not until she figured out what to do.

Even if she was not much of a gambler, it didn't hurt to take a look at what was there. Slot machines, black jack, poker...
The usual standard games in a casino. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Still, even with the coins, Dani had no desire to play. She knew what these games did to you, and loitering wasn't something she could afford to do at the moment. Even when she had been in the routine of undergoing lab work, she never quite found much leisure time to do whatever it was others enjoyed doing, and so she moved on, casting nothing but a quick glance at the games as she left.

At some point, Dani wondered if she should have taken that cocktail. Or was it better that she hadn't? Her vision was blurring, and she felt dizzy and nauseous. Was it the smoke? Strange smells hadn't usually bothered her considering the different kind of chemicals she often worked with, so what was it? She didn't have time to ponder further when she suddenly collapsed.
She woke up to found herself sitting, disoriented, sore and... in the dark. When she tried to move, nothing happened. Was she... alone?
... no. There were others. She heard breathing of others around her and with fear, she dreaded the worst. The fear only continued to grow as a voice spoke out, explaining their situation and...
Dani swallowed nervously. Dinner fundraiser? She didn't like the sound of that.
They were allowed a question, and Dani knew she couldn't waste this opportunity. However, before she could even open her mouth, she was suddenly dragged into another room with two individuals. She... she had to CHOOSE one of them? Dani had seen enough of these scenarios to know what this led to, and she regretted wanting to ask a question. Would it have been better if she didn't?
There was no use thinking of "what ifs", so Dani closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"The woman."
I'm sorry.
She winced as the boy screamed when being dragged off.
I'm sorry, I'm sorry...
She shook, still hearing the scream, but she had to press forward. One was sacrificed for another. She couldn't just stay here and do nothing.
As another room was revealed, Dani strained to see what was beyond.
"What's in the room?"
It was silly of the the attendant to ask after she had voiced her question, but she couldn't help notice the woman's reaction. Did... she know?
Knowledge was power, but, in this case... was it worth the risk?

Her decision was final.
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Then we will tell you, at a price."
As if Dani didn't have enough regret at sacrificing the young man, seeing what happened to the woman nearly drained the blood from her face. Even if she wanted to look away, she couldn't. This... this was going to happen to her if she didn't manage to buy herself. This... was going to happen to anyone who wasn't able to free themself.
She... she couldn't let that happen. She just couldn't.
Dani closed her eyes and shuddered.
