Emmanuel was a gamer back when there was electricity, so it wasn't like he wasn't used to grinding to get better for hours upon hours on end.
So rarely did it involve his own life, though. Sure, there were some of those story games, and he did get quite invested in those, but it was different when one was deeply invested in a game and when one was fairly sure that failure would result in death and ... desecration, at best. Emmanuel shuttered. He did not like these guys.
Still, Emmanuel needed at least some time to regroup. Perhaps he could find some people that were familiar from the Apartments. Maybe they had some clue as to how to escape this nonsense, or at least, talking to them would make him feel a bit normal. He really wished he was back in the Apartments feeling bored right now.
His eyes fell upon a woman and man that looked familiar, and he was instantly relieved... before feeling uneasy. They didn't need their numbers depleting because of this...
"Hey," offered Emmanuel, walking over. "Nice place, huh?" His voice couldn't be more sarcastic if he tried.

It was always a small comfort to see others from Clearview here in the casino. The dark flip-side was that they were also collared and basically forced to play for their lives, but at least they weren't stuck here all alone. Mel had happened across Durza at one point and, as soon as another greeting came from behind, turned and waved at the other boy. Emmanuel, was it? The fro was almost unmistakable...
"Hey," she returned with a wave and a smile in appreciation of the sarcasm. "Oh yeah, beautiful," she added, playing along. "And they have a way with guests, giving them fancy jewelry right out the gate."

Durza rolled his eyes and drawled, "At least it matches my hair." Even though his main job placed him in motion capture, he had a pretty big name for himself in the gaming world, under the username of Wanderlust. He'd played a wide variety of games in his streaming and online career, however, casino games were not among them.

Emmanuel decided no time was a bad time for bad humour, so he fluttered his eyebrows, lifted a leg, and fluffed at the collar. "Does this make my neck look big?"
He moved to run his hand through his hair as he took a glance at their fancy jewelry, noting their required point totals. One hundred was an improvement over his, but it looked like hers was a bit worse than his. Hopefully she was able to make it to her total...
"These numbers are a bit gaudy, though," he remarked, deciding to keep with the more fun tone when it came to what they were talking about. Perhaps he just did not want to acknowledge the truth.

She snickered at both their reactions and shook her head. She couldn't do it, and it felt like laughing in such a setting was bit...inappropriate. "It's lovely on you, don't be silly."
So maybe she had a little bit left. Emmanuel's last statement got a nod from her, and she tugged at her own collar before looking at Durza. "It matches Durza's hair, though." At least it did one of them a favor in...some...manner. Mel gave a sigh. It really wasn't right to laugh or make light of their situation, but it did cheer her up. They always did say laughter was the best medicine, so.
"You guys doing okay?" was the first serious thing she said since they ran into each other, and it was genuine concern. She was worried for all of the Clearview members, and was always glad to run into them to get a general update. "How're the games treating you guys and stuff? Any closer to that target number?"

He should have known his commentary would eventually be pushed aside for an actual conversation not dodging the point, but he sighed deeply anyway when he was asked.
But it didn't take long for his expression to turn from upset to surprised, and he turned towards Durza and rapidly shook his head. "I've got an inkling on what's done with the losers," and the bingo board had done nothing but support it, "and I don't care to end up bought. Bingo and slots seem relatively safe if you wanna try those."
He shrugged. "I've seen a lot of people at the Blackjack tables too."
He was notably not answering how he was holding up.

Mel's stomach turned at the idea and she didn't add to the comment, though her mind had started running through the small bits of evidence that she'd gathered about what it is they did with the losers. It was too disturbing to talk about, so she didn't. Instead, she nodded at the mention of Bingo and Slots being a good way to earn.
"Yeah, those two are pretty safe," she said, then pointed her thumb in the direction of the 20 Questions tables. "It's pricey to try 20 Questions, but I think easy enough to win if you pick something a little off the beaten path. The problem with that one is actually waiting for people to ask their questions. And yeah, Blackjack's good too..."
She glanced over at Emmanuel, particularly at his number, though she didn't say anything about it. "I ran into October and he seemed pretty sure about getting everyone out. We all just need to do what we can, yeah?"

After all, even if he was a lazy b*****d, he had still managed to keep them all alive until this point. No reason to think that he wouldn't continue to do just that, right? Emmanuel hoped. He didn't want to think about anyone being served up at a dinner auction--
He didn't want to think about it.
"Well, the slots were fairly easy. I don't think anything is too badly rigged here, just... Difficult." Like all gambling was. It was, after all, a gamble.

Being pessimistic was gonna do squat for them at this point, but it was reality and they had to face it. Still, Mel could only frown as the mohawked man went ahead with his negativity. They were all feeling it, but saying it out loud, while it was true, wasn't helpful. If anything, it was just one hell of a downer...
"Just try and focus on getting out of here then," she said a bit sharply. "And honestly I'd rather not think about what kind of crazy they have going on in here, I just wanna get the hell out."
Mel turned to Emmanuel and nodded then, and even reached over to briefly put a comforting hand to his shoulder. "I'd prefer to think he has a plan regardless of the evidence," even though she knew that blind faith could be considered stupidity by some.
"Anyway, I think I'm gonna hit the Blackjack tables again. See if I get lucky there. Did you guys wanna join me or were you gonna try your luck somewhere else?"

Emmanuel was not exactly expecting the response he got to his choice of words, and his eyes widened in surprise at the sudden barrage of negativity. He wasn't wrong but...
Awkwardly, Emmanuel slumped his shoulders and stayed quiet, entirely unsure how he was supposed to respond to that. He'd never been very good at the whole comforting thing, and Durza saying all those things just reminded Emmanuel of the fact that many of them were likely to die.
Would freeing themselves really even work? It did seem a little odd they would let their actual dinner just earn their way out of there, but perhaps he was just being too suspicious. It would be fine, right? There was going to be no marrow sucking--
Mel's move to touch his shoulder admittedly relieved him a tad, and he tried to relax. Tried. "I think so too. We're gonna get out." He'd keep telling himself that until he believed it.
"Blackjack might not be a bad idea either..." He mostly wanted to do something else now. Anything else, really. Get his mind off it...

"I'm sorry, I just- I do not mean to be so negative about our current situation," he sighed, "I my be struggling with depression, I have not been able to get it diagnosed as it started on Day Zero. Not that it might help much with a likely very small supply of antidepressants about."

"That's the spirit," she said as she gave Emmanuel a pat on the shoulder. "We're gonna get out of here," and she paused and looked Durza in the eye, smiling this time. "Definitely."
The suggestion to play a hand of Blackjack got a thoughtful look out of Mel, and she wondered for a second if there was anything wrong with that. "I don't really mind," she said finally, looking between the two boys then. "It's up to you guys, though."
