Maria couldn't believe it, they were being asked to supress an undying. She wasn't sure if it was for fun or for research, but she wasn't too happy about the fact of the matter. Looking to her colleagues, she shifted a bit as they entered the area and began their search for a mob.
"Pretty quiet, isn't it? Always the calm before the storm..." She offered small talk as they walked, hoping to pass the time before they encountered something deadly.
Yes, it was quiet. It was too quiet. Raffin himself enjoyed a great deal of peace and quiet most of the time, but this was not the peace part of that quiet. This was a tense, calm-before-the-storm sort of quiet, and it made him uneasy, made him not quite certain what to expect.
Maria was given a slight smile that was more relaxed than he actually felt.
"I should we don't run into anything...untoward," Raffin murmured, but he kept a firm grip on the knife in his pocket, hidden away just in case he needed to use it at some point. "It's rather unpleasant out here, I much prefer to do my research indoors."
Magnus was still on around, checking for trouble, as well as trying to find more of his crew to make sure they were alright. He had heard some troubling things over the radio, and all. And so, he prowled about, weapon in hand. It was pretty quiet. Maybe a little too quiet. Somewhere nearby, he could hear some voices, but he couldn't yet make out anything that was being said.
And so he started to make his way closer to investigate. The Boss soon came to a pause as he heard something else nearby. Friend? Foe? A rat?
A strange crunching noise filled the air, between the group of two and the boss. Out of the darkness, a while thing rolled into the open, landing so that two empty sockets looked up to the gray dusk. It wobbled for a long moment, before stilling and leaving the air silent for a long moment.
Then, scratching came up as first long fingers, than glowing eyes, came out into the open. Long spines, thin arms and legs, the creature was a mix between a skeleton and a shadow as it reached for the skull, before its eyes finally landed on the party around it.
All at once, the atmosphere changed.

Maria was about to leave a comment about how much she loved the indoors when she turned her head to the noise. Holding a hand out and pointing it toward the skull, she glanced to her companion before snapping her eyes back. All at once, she shifted when the undead moved into the light, and hissed.
One thing she learned from paintball was to strike before being seen, and so, as she saw the eyes of the creature before her, she picked up a rock on the ground and threw it as it shot out to strike her in turn.

She has straight, dark brown hair and blue-green eyes, as well as a dusting of freckles from playing outside too much when she was younger. She is on the shorter side of average, but only just so, and doesn't wear too flashy of clothing.
Well, things were going from bad to worse very quickly. Raffin stared at the creature, its eyes glowing as it stared at them, and took a step back, wondering if he was getting in over his head. He'd survived this long - his boss was here, and Maria was here to assist, but at the same time -
He gripped his knife and lunged forward, trying to head the thing off, and managed a surprisingly strong scrape down its front.
Maria watched as Raffin struck the creature down, and was amazed at his power. It seemed as if she needed to get a weapon, and fast. As she saw the creature stumble back, she made a run and blindly slammed into it, pushing it away and down the ground. It hit the rocks, and didn't get back up.
Waiting a long moment, she turned to look back at both in turn, and nodded to the undead, "Confirmed dead?" She asked, out of breath, and hoping a second opinion would seal the fate.

He was extremely relieved at having gotten around the creature, Raffin grabbing what he could and skedaddling.
