The village is running low on food and it is up to you to find some steaks and cook them for the village. You are granted exactly one portable spit though you will have to do the hunting yourself.
Right in the outskirts of the village are EVIL HAND TURKEYS. They have 10 HP each, which your character will have to defeat in normal battle combat style (attack with the dice mechanics of your current character until it hits 0 HP). They do -2 auto damage to you every time you hit it. When you have defeated a turkey, you can carve from it, a turkey steak.
Roll 1d10 to cook your steak. If you roll 1-5 your steak is raw, if you roll 6-8 your steak is perfect, if you roll 9-10 you steak is unedible. Only RAW and perfect steaks are allowed.
gaia_star If you acquire a perfect steak, it is considered a quest item. Add it to your quest item list.

It wasn't long until she was being tasked by the villagers for things. Apparently they were running low on food and they really really REALLY needed her help in getting more. But what they were asking her to do was really against anything the Jiang Shi was really willing to do. She hated violence for the most part. Even just sparring against other students wasn't entirely something she sought out.
But killing minipets....that made her feel guilty on a whole new level. She had a hoard of minis of her own that she just couldn't even fathom hurting. The villagers reassured her that these were wild and evil turkeys. It was for a good cause after all.
Meixiang stood there, staring at the group of turkeys that gobbled about. Bobbing their heads this way and that. There was something most evil about them.

I'll just toss in Meixiang, its easier for me to concentrate on one character. XD
Deacon noticed Meixiang before the turkeys, probably because she was a ghoul and he cared a lot more about ghouls than stupid turkeys and stupid villagers who didn't answer his questions when he tried to talk to them. "You alright over there?"
He wasn't certain if she was apprehensive of acting because she pitied the birds or if she was afraid of them. It was hard telling with ghouls sometimes.
Those hand turkeys did look kinda... Not pleased. But, they seemed to be mostly minding their own business. For the moment.
"Don't sweat it. They're just dumb birds. They probably won't even figure out what's going on and you can try to make it quick." He was serious. Really. He was just trying to help.
He stooped down to pick up a rock and with a well aimed flick of his wrist aimed to belt one of the meandering turkeys upside the head. The stone met its mark and the poor creature gave a terrible, shrill cry and came at him in retaliation.
"s**t! s**t!" Shielding his face, the tabby spewed curses, trying to shake off the very unhappy bird.

"Get off of me!" Deacon bellowed out at the bird who was wildly trying - succeeding - to flog him with wings and sharp talons.
Deacon couldn't recall ever punching a bird before, but there was something satisfying about the crunch that sounded when his fist connected.
Feathers flew and so did the turkey, landing a few feet away and very dead before it hit the ground.
" He might have given the bird a shake just to be sure it was actually dead. Or maybe he just wanted to make sure its neck was plenty broken.

Deacon might have taken just a little too much delight in pulling feathers. By the time that he'd balded the damn bird and gotten to carving a sizeable slab of meat from it he sincerely hoped that they were going to get a meal of their own for all of this trouble. He'd never been required to cook for someone else, let alone without getting something out of it first. Hell, he barely even cooked for himself.
The tabby was at least relieved that he wasn't expected to build a fire. Yuki had seen to that, and it was actually a shame that Deacon had no admiration or care for how quickly he had done so. He did, however, find a bit of humor in it.
"You know, it's kinda ironic that you've got functional survival skills... Being a ghost and all."
He paid no mind to any response, chuckling at his own jab and setting to cook his steak.
Deacon was never known for being patient, and cooking took a lot longer than he thought it should have. Granted, he preferred things he could heat in minutes... Or things that someone else cooked for him. Time was never really paid attention to beyond the whining of waiting when he was hungry.
His lack of skill showed, but at least he didn't destroy the meat. That had to count for something. It was still pink in the middle, but not burnt on the outside. Surely someone back in the village would eat it without complaint. Or with complaint. He really didn't care. He didn't want to be here.
Deacon hoped that the villager who ate his steak got salmonella.

Yuki had decided it best to stay out of the way, once Deacon had taken the first 'shot' at one of the turkeys. He knew that his own time to deal with one would come; best to not get attacked before he absolutely had to be...
Considering that they were rather late to the hunting game, it was a stroke of luck that there was already a prepared spot where someone before them had built a fire before. It required only a bit of brush to start some of the dying embers to burning again. He could only glower at Deacon at his jest; it wasn't something that he found funny. Though, it did make him wonder if he'd actually had experience of roughing it out in nature in his life. All he could do was wonder, unfortunately.
As Deacon got to work under cooking his own steak, Yuki got up and dusted his pants before going to seek out his own bird. Instead of planning to lob rocks at them, he found a moderately sized stick... A club, essentially.
This really was a terrible job to land on complete strangers. Not all of them looked like they'd spent their youth hunting, surely...
Once Yuki had crept up on one of the poor creatures, he took a hard swing and really hoped that maybe he could manage to kill it in one hit instead of dragging out its misery.
Things didn't go so fortunately, and the ghost boil grimaced. The turkey struck out at him seemingly by luck alone, knocked silly and flapping about without any clue as to where it was going or which direction was up.

When he swung, and missed, Yuki worried that perhaps he wasn't cut out as a hunter after all. If he couldn't strike a bird that was already injured, what good was that?
The third swing thankfully hit home, and Yuki wasn't sure whether he could feel victorious or not. He wasn't particularly fond of their given task, and sooner would have liked to help cook rather than participating in the actual hunting and killing part...

Yuki was pretty confident in himself after the most undesirable part of the deed was done. He returned to the fire with the cut of meat and mentally assured himself that he could do just as well as the bakeneko. Deacon probably hadn't cooked a thing a day in his life, so Yuki thought he'd have a better go at it.
He thought so, but he was so very wrong. It was a good thing, after all, that he had only been charged with trying to cook steaks that he retrieved himself. Any proper hunter would have probably throttled him for ruining the meat the way that he did.
"I didn't think it was going to catch on fire!" Yuki complained, after - somehow - the steak had done just that. It was ruined. Blackened. No one would want it. At least Deacon's had only been a bit raw and not irreparably destroyed.
He tried not to look as disheartened as he felt as he put the fire out. "At least one of us will have something to show for the trouble." Yuki muttered, not even so much as considering going out and killing another turkey.
