gaia_star[ Quest 8: ] Eggstraction: It Returns! (Click spoiler for mechanics) Requirement: One person in the party must have a herbivore egg.
- It seems as if the villagers now want you to collect some more eggs. Those eggs are really delicious you know, and surprisingly enough, get you into the good graces of the villagers quite fast.
- Your character is dropped off at the base of an even taller mountain The goal is to climb the mountain and get the egg. RP climbing it appropriately
- As you near the egg, whatever is following you will try to eat it. Roll 1d6 to see what it is.

If by any chance a sand whale is the culprit, it automatically eats the egg and you have to try again. Otherwise, rp gathering the egg.
- Now you must carry the egg down the cliffside of the mountain. Roll 1d6 again and see what is trying to push you off the cliff aggressively.

If the result is a sand lobster, you drop the egg, and have to try again.
- You finally pass the cliffs into the forest region of the mountain. Roll 1d5 to see what tries to block your way.
1. A sand crab minipet 2. A 100 foot giant snake 3. A baby wyvern 4. A zombie deer minipet 5. A sand whale (estimated 400 feet) 6. A rolling sand lobster minipet
If the result is a 100 foot giant snake, it squishes you and you have to try again.
Finally, you make you way past all of that and you get to the base camp. Oh wait, something is waiting for you at base camp! Roll 1d6 again:
1. A sand crab minipet 2. A 100 foot giant snake 3. A baby wyvern 4. A zombie deer minipet 5. A sand whale (estimated 400 feet) 6. A rolling sand lobster minipet
If a baby wyvern shows up, very mean adult wyverns land, reprimand you, and then extract the egg from you before flying away. You don't get an egg. Otherwise, success!
gaia_star If you successfully get an egg to safety, you get wyvern egg. It is considered a quest item. Add it to your quest item list

Leo was a ghoul on a mission; that is to say, several missions. First off, she wanted to get back to school as soon as possible, for which she probably needed the villagers' help. To gain the villagers' help, she'd have to soften them up; leading to mission number two - gain more seriously-hard-to-get eggs, as per the request of a villager.
Which lead to mission number three: find someone to get the other eggs with. It'd been lonely getting the herbivore egg by herself and besides, she didn't trust these villagers - or mountains, for that matter. Never knew what might happen out there but there was safety in numbers, she was sure.
Which was why she was combing the village, looking for anyone who didn't look too local or too occupied. Really, anyone would do at this point - with resolution, she grabbed hold of the nearest person she deemed least shifty looking and went "hey, do you have a bit of time?" with her most welcoming grin on.

Arrakis had absolutely no idea what to do. Other students had started walking away from the bus, so he figured he might as well, too. Surely there was something that he could do that was more useful than hovering around the bus. That was interrupted--or, perhaps, helped along--when someone grabbed him. Surprised, he turned to address whomever it was trying to get his attention. He was admittedly relieved to see it wasn't one of the eerie villagers.
Did he have time? He couldn't help grinning back to her grin. "Well, I can't really think of anything better to do." Chances were this wouldn't get him killed. Right? Right. "So what is it you need me to do?"

Okay, definitely not a creepy villager. "Yeah I know what you mean, this place isn't exactly packin' with entertainment." Letting go of the boil's arm, she took a step back and put a hand on her hip. "Well, one of the villagers asked me to get an egg from a nearby mountain for him; I already got one before, but apparently this one is going to be even harder to acquire."
She shrugged, still grinning, "honestly, I'd just like some company for the task. We can split the reward too, if there is any."
Oh wait, she'd forgotten to introduce herself. "I'm Leo by the way, Amityville student."

"Arrakis; I'm a student too." Egg, nearby mountain... He looked back in the direction of the bus. "Well, we could probably find that again if we needed, so... sure! Why not?" He wouldn't complain about splitting any reward either, honestly, but he was mainly in it for the adventure. Arrakis looked around. "Which mountain is it that they're wanting you to get it from?" Hopefully not one inhabited by something with a lot of teeth and not enough things to sink them into. The weird skulking villagers were bad enough.

"Awesome!" Leo gave him a thumbs up at his willingness to join her, only to be stumped by his question. "Er, well, I'm not entirely sure. The villager said he'd guide us there, so I figure we'll go report that we're ready and he'll show us."
She looked around, getting her bearings. Thankfully she hadn't wandered far from the villager with the egg request; this village kind of looked all the same to her, and she wasn't entirely certain how good she'd be at navigating it with an actual purpose. "He's just over there," she helpfully pointed, "if you're ready to go?"

Well, a guide was certainly better than wandering around lost, so he was glad to hear of that, at least. Following her pointing, he grinned. "Sure, let's get going!" Something to actually do was helping with his trepidation surrounding whatever was going on with the bus, and it was nice to at least be stuck here with another student. He couldn't think of anything he needed to do beforehand; it wasn't like there was a place to gather supplies from and hopefully they wouldn't need to. Glancing over his shoulder to make sure she was with him and that he was going in the right direction, Arrakis started toward the villager she'd pointed at.

Finding the villager proved to be easy work, and then they were off, being led to their destination. The trip was uneventful and not too arduous; Leo took this time to explain their task in detail and soon, they arrived at the base of a mountain, this one even taller than the one she'd climbed before. Their villager guide left them with a nod, evidently expecting them to get on with it.
Well, they probably should. "Alright! Here we are then! Hope you're up for some mountain-climbing - it looks pretty steep, but we should be alright I reckon." With an encouraging grin to her new friend, she set off, starting the climb. The sooner they got this done, the sooner she'd be off this mountain.

He rubbed his hands together, looking up at the incline. Arrakis figured he'd forgo a walking stick--it would really just get in his way at this point. He shared her sentiment of "sooner started, sooner completed", honestly. His sense of misgiving about the area was not entirely gone. Luckily, she had done this before, so Arrakis was willing to defer to her experience if needed. Thanking everything for his long arms and legs, he gamely followed her up the mountain.

The climb was pretty uneventful, compared to the other mountain she'd been on. She did feel as though someone was following them at times but every time she'd turned around to look, there'd been no-one there. Paranoia, that's what this village got you.
"So, are you new at school? I don't remember seeing you around before." She huffed at herself, grinned, "but then again, I just spent nearly a year away so maybe that's not the most accurate assessment."
Nearing the top, she spotted the nest of eggs - "there!" Pointing at their goal, she threw a victorious grin at Arrakis. "We made it!"
Should we grab one or two of them? Probably couldn't bring any more than that down -" before she could continue her reasoning, a creature shuffled past her towards the eggs. "Hey!" It was... "A zombie deer?" Quizzically, she almost forgot to stop the creature from getting to the eggs - a last minute tackle and some grappling managed to send it running away, though.
Hoisting her bounty, she turned back to her partner-in-egg-stealing; "you getting one or d'you think this is enough for the villager?"

"I'm new, yeah." Arrakis laughed a bit. "So you're not wrong, though apparently you have perfect timing if you're coming back as I come in. Welcome back?"
Once they got to the top, he grinned back at her as the eggs came into view. His arms and legs were already achy, so he was admittedly eager to get an egg and get back to the village. He opened his mouth to reply to her that he figured they should bring two total, but was interrupted first by the zombie deer she tackled and then again by a sandy lobster. Seeing that she had the deer handled, he rushed to intercept the lobster. Snatching it away from the claws, he held it high over his head and jumped back after shoving the lobster away with his foot.
Just in time for his companion to ask him about his efforts. He gave her a breathless grin. "Well, I think this'll do."

"That'll do nicely, partner." She grinned, winked at him and starting the descent. "Welcome to the school! And thanks for the welcome back; I always say to myself, 'this time nothing's going to force me away from school' and I always end up being wrong." Laughing a bit self-depreciatingly, she shook her head and moved on to happier topics; "how are you finding Amityville so far? It can be a bit overwhelming, but it's pretty awesome once you get used to it." She nudged him with a shoulder and a beam, "you been making lots of friends?"
And then she was nudged, a great deal more aggressively. "Hey!" Leo turned around, only to come face to face with a giant sand whale. "Holy--" She went chalky, glanced at Arrakis and commanded: "Run!"
Following her own advice, she stumbled away from the sand whale, keeping a steady grip on the egg as she went. How on earth were they supposed to defend themselves from something like that?! "No wonder those villagers outsourced this," she scowled when they got to safety.

"I really like Amityville, but it is really different! My family lives pretty far away from here, and in a really small town, so I'm not used to this many creeple." It did feel a little claustrophobic at times, but he was adjusting well enough. Being able to retreat to his dorm to relax was helping. "I've made a couple, I think?" He gave her a self-deprecating grin of his own. "I'm not being invited to any wild parties yet, though." Not that he necessarily wanted to go to any wild parties.
She wasn't the only one that lost colour in her face when the sand whale showed up, Arrakis wasting precisely no time in running after her. Casting a white-lipped glance over his shoulder once they lost it, he made a sound of agreement. "A bit of warning would have been nice, you know?" The sand lobster was bad enough back at the nest, but it was something else entirely to be chased by a sand whale. Where was it even living?

"I know that feeling; my hometown is pretty small too. It's definitely an adjustment," she nodded sympathetically. "But if you're making friends, then you're doing great! And to be honest, I've been in the school for nearly five years and I've never been invited to any wild parties either." Pausing, she thought out loud, "but then again, being in school for five years probably isn't something to brag about. Well! If you ever wanna try throwing a wild party, let me know and we can try setting it up. It's gotta be tried one time, right?"
A bit of warning from the villagers would have been fantastic; "yes, definitely." She agreed, wrinkling her nose and re-starting their descent. They passed the cliffs and soon were in the forest regions of the mountain, when their passage was blocked by -
"Oh for jack's sake--" Leo cursed, rolling her eyes. "We're being stalked by bloody sand whales! Reckon we can sneak around it?" She eyed the creature, which had not yet spotted them. "Something as big as that, we could probably go 'round back and it'd never know."
Hesitating for a moment before steeling her courage, she nodded, mostly to herself. "Yeah, I'm going to give it a go! If it squishes me or something, just run, alright? No sense in both of us dissipating." With that she strode off, carefully calculating her steps and watching both the ground and the sand whale. Inching around the thing took a bit of time, but she managed it.

"Definitely," he agreed on the subject of parties, reflecting that he actually wasn't sure how many friends he'd managed to make. He had several acquaintances, that was for sure, but actual friends he was a bit sketchier on. So as much as he'd be fine not really going to a wild party, his curiosity did wonder about them... but on the other hand, it might very well be a moot point. And to be honest, he was still getting used to how the school worked, so to hear that she'd been there for five years didn't necessarily strike him as odd.
To see another sand whale blocking their way though... Arrakis made a series of exasperated gestures at the sand whale. "You would think something this big would have fewer in the area!" Though maybe it was a pod of sand whales. He shuddered at the thought. He really didn't want to run into even more of them! Just these couple were bad enough, and he was honestly hoping they just kept running into the same sand whale through some convoluted twist of fortune.
He was actually pretty quick on her heels when she went, hoping that maybe if the whale moved, he'd be close enough to help make sure neither one of them got squished. How, precisely, Arrakis was going to manage that was a mystery, but he'd, uh... figure something out. Yeah. Something. Something like nothing, which was what was actually needed when he and Leo managed to sneak successfully around the sand whale while maintaining a low level of squishing. Once they were safely on the other side, he sighed, "that's enough whales."
