Backdated to June 13, immediately after Ends

It took Tantalus a long moment of standing there with his fingers resting against his lips before he remembered that he was standing in his living room, powered up, and probably attracting attention if anyone else was in the area, powered up, in the middle of the day.

He dropped his henshin and practically collapsed on the couch, staring at the wall like it might have some sort of answer for him.

This was not the first time he and Rhys had kissed, but the last time they had been young and stupid and it hadn't meant anything - he thought. Maybe it had.

He didn't know how to handle any of this.

Lance was still getting use to, and coming to terms with their new living arrangements. Shortly after 'announcing' their engagement to Alistair's mother, the mom of two sprang a town house on them. That's right, a town house. The pair had moved from an apartment complex (where theirs was a nice too bedroom unit) to a freaking town house. As it was, Lance was already suspicious this was a small mansion. It was much bigger then the rest of the town houses in the area. He suspected Sorcha had something to do with that. Knowing her, she most likely bout out the adjacent unit had it converted to expand on to their house.

Lance wouldn't put that past her at all.

The blonde sighed as he trudged in through the back good, kicking off his shoes haphazardly as he tried not to drop various things on to his now unprotected feet. The unit (units?) had come with a fairly decent back yard, though it needed some work. The fence was old. Holes and broken pieces popped up every now and then. The 'shed' was no better. Lance was convinced that the thing had been home to a family of rabbits at one point, judging by the mess.

He had also taken to putting in a few shrubs and plants. Just so they had something to look at till Alistair could make up their mind on what kind of out door furniture they were going to get.

Ever the picky shopper.

He was gross, he was dirty. Sun-burnt, definitely sun-burnt sore in some spots and sweaty all over. And all he wanted to do at the moment was face first on the couch long enough to cool off for five minutes before Alistair dragged his a** upstairs for a shower. Lance really hoped Alistair was asleep or something, and not pouring through various Home Decor books. ...Not that he was particularly complaining, much anyway. Alistair had spent way to much time in theater. He'd designed props, costumes and half the time the stage itself. So whenever he made a comment about redecorating, Lance was honestly scared for his life.

He stopped dead in his tracks though as he rounded the corner, at least for a moment anyway before lurching back. The blonde was thankful that he some how managed to avoid smacking his face into the wall in the heat of the moment. This could not be happening. Right? But it was, wasn't it.

Alistair was kissing Rhys.

Not him, his fiancé. He was kissing another man. Then the pair were mumbling something and... Oh. Well then.

Shows how much he knew.

Lance shifted in place, leaning against the wall just trying to be as quiet as possible. What was he suppose to say.

It took Alistair a long moment to realize that someone else was in the room. There were very few possibilities - and most would have entered through the front door, which reduced the number significantly. He pulled himself out of his thoughts and looked towards the entrance, and he felt his heart - or his stomach, or probably both - drop into his shoes.

"Lance," he said, and he hates himself for how raw his voice sounded. What the hell was he even supposed to do? Asking how much his fiancé had seen would sound suspicious, so would flying into denials or pleading. There was no coming out of this looking good.

'Damn it, Rhys,' he thought, frustrated, 'why did you have to...couldn't it have been a verbal confession? That would have been so much better.' not that it would have mattered either way, because his feelings were the same - he loved Lance, had promised himself to him.

"It's not..." He stood up, and started towards his fiancé, but froze after a few steps.

Sighing, Lance quietly padded over to where Alistair stood and wrapped an arm around the other mans shoulders. Drawing him close, the blonde just rested his cheek against his head as he stared towards the now closed door.

They both knew he saw it. So now what did he say? Where things some how inexplicably worse because all three parties involved actually knew each other? Or was that suppose to be some sort of comfort. It was ironic, he guessed. For all the flirting Alistair did around the school, Lance wondered if Ali ever expected someone to reciprocate those feelings.

He wondered how Alistair didn't notice.

Minutes passed, and he said nothing. Neither of them said anything. They just.... stood there. Was this going to happen every time they got into a fight? This hadn't happened the last time they fought. But, then again... Lance sighed. He knew what to say now.

Lance pulled his arm from Alistair's shoulder, turning the man towards the couch with the silent command of 'sit' before himself turning and disappearing upstairs. Again minutes passed. Longer, then when they stood there in silence, until eventually a somewhat cleaner version of Lance descended the stair case and returned to the living room.

But this time, he was not alone.

Alistair was still where he'd left him, quiet and un-moving from his spot on the couch. He took a good, long look at his fiance, collecting his thoughts before he sat down. Alistair would most likely note that the blonde didn't sit directly next to him, and that the small gap between them probably felt more like a chasam instead of the tiny amount of breathing space it was suppose to be.

"You realize the irony here right?" He said finally, casting his glance downwards and away from the wall in front of him. However had coined the phrase "History repeats itself." should have gotten a medal in Lance's opinion. Because they were right. History does repeat itself. Rhys and Alistair had just proved that.

This was not the first time they'd been in this situation.

"The first time this happened, was not long after we got together. Officially, anyway." Lance said. In his hands, he held a well loved plush rabbit. You got mad at me because I didn't tell you about Persephone kissing me just before arriving at your place." Persephone, who at that point had still been Caitlyn Masters. Caitlyn Masters, whom he had practically grown up with and was more like a sister instead of just some girl he knew.

"It had been just like that too. Unexpected, totally thrown right into it. And when it happened, you just don't know what too do because your brain is still processing things trying to figure out what the ******** had just happened." Lance flipped the toy over in his hands a few times, fingers running though the plush fur and over the ribbon that had been tied around his neck in a bow. John, the thing read.

"You got so mad at me because I didn't speak up. Because I didn't know what to say about this one issue, but yet you had been totally okay with the fact that you didn't know what I would say about the issue's we talked about that night. You were so mad at me because when you learned about it. You learned about it from some girl who didn't remember you anymore, let alone remember me outside of that one time. You stormed out of Gabriel's place like a bat out of hell because you learned something from an amnesiac. What would you have done if I'd told you that night Alistair? Would you really have wanted to hear that before we started talking? After? If anything that god damn kiss helped me. It helped me realize what it was I felt for you and that it was serious. And I told you that."

The blonde handed the rabbit off to the brunette at that point and sat back, his hands dropping listlessly into his lap. He hadn't looked at the younger man once since beginning his little rant. "I got you that to try and make up for what ever the hell that day was." Finally, his gaze shifted to his fiance. "So I'm going to ask you this Alistair. Where's mine."

Alistair was distinctly trembling when Lance walked over to him. He wasn't sure what to expect, and actually being pulled close, for Lance to show affection - it was more than he expected and probably more than he deserved. He let out a tiny whimper, but that was all, and he couldn't even make himself cry.

When Lance pushed him back towards the couch, he collapsed on it, and stared down at his lap, where he fiddled with his hands and tried not to fall completely apart. He was scared - there was no other word for what he was feeling than pure fear. So far, Lance didn't seem angry, but that could change in a moment and he knew it. Surely he was, wasn't he? What else did one feel...? Hurt, betrayed.

He jumped a little when Lance sat down by him. Half of him wanted to throw himself across the small distance between them, curl up in Lance's arms, and beg for forgiveness. The other half won, and he stayed exactly where he was, staring downward and shaking worse and worse.

He bit his lip and tried to shove down the desire to cry, because he didn't deserve to be a sobbing wreck and put Lance in the position of wanting to comfort him. Not when he had ******** up, and his fiancé was making that abundantly clear.

He wanted to say something, but he couldn't make the words come. No matter how hard he tried, all that came out were tiny, choked sobs, until Lance passed off the rabbit and finished. He found himself clinging for dear life, as the tears finally started.

"I'm sorry," he said, "I'm so sorry, it was so stupid of me to be angry with you over that, I should have realized...it was before, and...and even if you had actually been with her it would have been none of my business but Lance, I swear, it didn't mean anything, I had no idea Rhys felt that way about me. And he's...he's going to be gone anyway, because he's giving himself to the Negaverse and Rhys won't survive that as the same person no matter how it goes."

He watched as Alistair cried, burring his face in the toy as he uttered one apology after the next. Explaining how he didn't know. That it didn't matter. Neither incident mattered.

Of course they did.

Sighing, Lance reached over and wrapped an arm around Ali's shoulder's while another snaked under his legs. A few tugs and the brunet was in his lap, curled up into a ball as he continued to cry. "You didn't notice because you weren't focused on it. You didn't notice because he tried to keep it under wraps when he was around you. Rhys was doing the same thing you did when you were trying to control yourself around me." He murmured quietly, electing to ignore the talk about Cait. "You both were in the same group together. You both learned how to mask it. I'm not surprised that you didn't notice it."

He then lapsed into silence again as he let Alistair cry and shake. He wasn't sure what else he could say. Wasn't sure if he had anything left to say. He should probably be angry. Maybe he was. But he would deal with that later, on his own. When he, and Alistair, had taken some time to calm down and mull things over.

He tilted his head towards the door slightly, nodding in its direction. "That's probably not a good idea. You've seen, or in some cases experienced, first hand what the Negaverse can do. What they will do. Rhys doesn't belong there. He may not belong with order either, but we both know he's not cut out for the Negaverse." Lance didn't have to say it, they were both thinking it.

Rhys, or whoever it was he became, could die.

"He needs to be stopped... Maybe, he could have joined us some how. I don't know." Not that that wouldn't have been fifty shades of awkward. He wasn't even sure if that was possible. If he was going to the Negaverse, that meant that he was a Knight. The Dark Mirror didn't have Knights. At least, the ones in Destiny City didn't. Still, he wondered if something could have still been done anyway. Who knew. s**t in this city, let alone this war was constantly changing. Maybe there could have been someway to keep him from going to the Negaverse.

Lance looked from the door, to the ball in his lap and frowned. Gently, he ran his hand down the other man's back, trying to coax him out of his shell. "Alistair... Alistair it's okay." Despite the rant he'd given earlier, Lance wasn't as mad as he probably should have been. He was almost never truely mad with Alistair, despite everything they'd been through. The blonde sighed quietly.

"Go after him."

Alistair whined when Lance picked him up, and considered, briefly, protesting the gesture - this was exactly what he had wanted to avoid. Now Lance was comforting him, when he was the one who had ******** up.

"Why aren't you angry?" He asked, faintly. Not that he wasn't sort of glad for it - Lance yelling at him would have been more than he could handle, probably. "You should probably be...really angry with me." He sniffled faintly.

He was a little surprised to see Lance agree that this was a terrible idea. But then, he was the one with the crazy sister; of course he wouldn't want someone else to fall.

"I don't know, he seemed so sure..." Alistair swallowed, and he very definitely did not move. "I tried to talk him out of it already, before...and he didn't want to listen." He swallowed.

And he stared, open-mouthed and shocked, at Lance's suggestion. "What? Go after...he's a Squire, who knows where he is by now! He might have gone...off planet or whatever they can do."

"...I am angry." He admitted. "To a point. You didn't know Rhys was going to do that. I can't be mad at you for that. In all honesty, this isn't much difference than what happened with us. Both with Cait kissing me and what happened back at Destiny Con. Emotions got the better of people and in most cases s**t just happened. It's not like I can particularly fault you for Rhys kissing you. You didn't exactly stand there and tell him to do it." Even if he didn't stand there and tell him not to.

"Did you tell him about what we've seen? What they've done? What happened to you alone? I don't think Rhys would want to be anywhere near them, let alone the corrupts if he knew what happened to you in that future." Though, on hind sight, perhaps it was a better idea that he didn't know. Rhys had always been the type to jump to Alistair's defense, regardless of the situation. At times, Lance thought he was being a bit to white knight-like, but the pair were friends, and he wasn't about to get on Rhys' case for that. Which meant if Rhys knew what happened to Alistair in that future and who it was that caused it, this had the potential to get ugly quickly.

"Don't look at me like that." He grumped. "Rhys may be a Squire, but you're a Super and I'm an Eternal, the two of us could cover more ground that way? Even if he's in his wonder or whatever it is those guys do I'm sure we could find something." Or just Alistair. If Alistair didn't want him going, then so be it. Someone's bound to have seen him.. Super worst case scenario.. we wait for the feel of a General Sovereign and book it as fast as we can in that direction."

"...You would have told me the same thing if it was Gabriel or Rumi or anyone else, and you know it. So don't act like this is such a shock to hear from me. Just because I'm not overly happy with him at the moment doesn't mean I want him in the danger that he's staging himself up for. He thinks he's doing this for his greater good, or whatever asinine reason he has but he'll be nothing but a pawn to them. We've seen what they can do. Some of them act out with no disregard of what the Sovereigns say. Alistair they could literally kill him. And that's assuming he doesn't get killed by anything else first. Be it youma, corrupts or the force of the corruption itself." Was Alistair really just going to sit back and let this happen? Even if they couldn't do anything, there had to be some way from stopping this.

"I mean, I lost my temper at you, and at her, and..." Alistair pressed his face into the rabbit, sniffling faintly. "I didn't want him to do it, I wasn't expecting him to...I just didn't want him to go join the Negaverse..." It didn't make sense to him. Why would Rhys just give up like that? Give up everything he was... "I know things were getting bad with his parents, but that's so far to go..."

He found himself curling up against Lance, pressing into his fiance's warmth and wishing he didn't need to, that there wasn't a reason for him to seek desperate comfort. "You'd help me look for him?" He asked, his eyes brightened a little. "Maybe we can - we can stop him, just for a little while, talk him out of this."

If Lance was with him, he could do it, he was sure of that. If they went into something together, of course they'd be able to make it work out.

"You're right, he's...I mean, what's he going to do, send a letter to a General-Queen? 'Hello, Your Majesty, yes, I'd like to corrupt, meet me in the' --" he got halfway through the sarcastic imitation of Rhys's accent before he sighed heavily. "He would," he realized, and it sounded faint, almost defeated. "If I go to find him, I want you with me."

"You lost your temper because you were hurt. It's only natural you or anyone else would react like that." Lance kept up the act of gently running his hand over Ali's back in an effort to calm the other man down. "I know you didn't, just like I wasn't expecting it. When have you ever known me to express a romantic interest in a girl Ali?"

"If you want me too." He said quietly. "I can't promise you I'll talk to him, or you know... Keep calm if I do but I'll help you look for him if you want. It is entirely your decision."

Though as the other man spoke of possible what ifs that Rhys would pull, Lance fixed him with a dead pan stare. Even he knew what Rhys would pull and he was never part of theater. "I did just get through practically saying you both spent to much time in the theater and you sit there and debate what he would do to attract the attention of a Sovereign? Really?" Waaaaaay to much time in there.

"If implies that you don't know whether you want to find him or not Alistair. Are you willing to risk what that could mean for the both of you? Corrupting into the Negaverse is not like the Dark Mirror. He will be losing part of himself if it happens. What will you do if it's the part that remembers you? You can't tell me that you'd be okay with it, or that you'd come to terms with it. I know you Ali. If this was anyone else, sure, maybe you would and could come to terms. But this is Rhys. Do you really want to risk it?"

Not that chasing him down wasn't a risk. It was anyone's guess what could and would happen if they found him with a General Sovereign. Alone, the two of them could do minimal at best, and neither wanted to put Leto in that kind of position again.

"I hadn't really known you to express romantic interest in anyone until," Alistar coughed, and then looked away. "Um, me." Which was why it was extra idiotic that he had been so jealous.

He coughed a little. "Of course I want you with me. I'm terrible at doing things alone, and I'm...afraid he won't listen to reason. So I may need someone who can physically carry him off before he does something stupid." That seemed like an absolutely excellent plan. "And besides, I need you to have my back." He slid, carefully, out of Lance's lap to stand up.

"That's why I need to do this. I can't lose him. Not to them. There has to be a way to stop him from corrupting, to convince him to just...give it a little while longer. Right?" Because Rhys not remembering him would be more than he could imagine bearing, even if he would have to navigate around knowing his best friend was...apparently in love with him.

"I can't let him turn into one of them, Lance. I can't."

[Mistress Morbid]
PostPosted: Sat Aug 15, 2015 11:45 pm

"That's because I never had one. Why would I go off and kiss someone else, if I was trying to figure out what was going on between us Ali?"

The blonde paused. "He may not listen, regardless if I am there or not. You understand this right?" Though he snorted quietly. He was quite certain that Alistair's version of 'physically carry him off' was vastly different from either his or Rhys' versions... Both of which probably involved throwing a few punches. Lance still wasn't all entirely sure Rhys even liked him.

"I'm sure you'll think of something to convince him."
