Estel felt more drained than she had ever been. At some point, sitting in the prison cell, she felt like she had resigned herself to her fate, given up, and let the others do all of the work in breaking out of there. She had spoken up, volunteered to serve as a Great Knight... but she had never really stepped up as a leader, had she?
She had been pacing around the shore of the lake for a while. It had been quite some time since she'd slept - too long, probably - and yet she could hardly sit still. She had washed her armor until it shone again, earlier, scrubbed her skin raw... but it didn't seem to have made a difference in her mood.
What had those dark hallways done to her, that she couldn't make herself smile right now?

Riley was still trying to find the last piece of her belongings, the veil that covered the lower half of her face, which had flown away in the breeze at some point during her bath and extensive time speaking with the two that had found her. Now she was running around, trying to find the little slip of cloth, which meant she found Estel first, of course.
There was an air of melancholy about her, and Riley recognized it. She'd been shadowed by the same cloud only moments before, and understood Estel's sadness all too well. Choosing to forego her search for the time being, she moved to slide beside the woman instead, until her footsteps matched Estel's own. But she waited, just a few seconds, before coyly leaning in to whisper an amused greeting. "Hi."

Estel jumped, looking over with a somewhat sheepish expression. "Oh! Riley!" Damn it, if she'd been so out of it that Riley was able to sneak up on her... what if it had been a shadowling?
She felt like she should be safe out here, but she didn't know for certain. Maybe nowhere was safe.
"How are you feeling?"

"Oh, absolutely dreadful." She chuckled out, her laughter as weak as the sentiment behind it. "I think we all are. That is why we've been given this haven of rest before we continue - because what is placed upon our shoulders is never more burden than we can bear." She didn't know if she truly believed that, but she could tell it was something she had once believed, a long time ago.
"At least I am clean. That is better than it was this morning. We must treasure the little gifts." She held her hands behind her back, and tilted her head curiously. "And you? You seem troubled - not that I can blame you."

"I'm... restless," Estel admitted. "It's lovely out here, and yet... I don't know, I can't relax. We hardly had time to settle in at Camelot before the siege, and now..."
Now Camelot was lost.

"Ahh." Riley worried over restlessness, sure that it was the root cause of other, darker emotions. Her fingers lifted as if to touch the girl's shoulder, but then they pulled back. A moment later, she lifted them again, resting her hand against Estel in a featherlight touch. "I never sought to settle in, at Camelot - perhaps that is why I don't mourn for it now. There was corruption there from the day we arrived, and I'm glad to be away from it. But that does not mean we've found peace, despite how close this haven comes."
She breathed in a long, cleaning breath, her eyes fluttering closed as she inhaled. For that one moment, she felt a bone deep peace.
But it did not last. "It can't be helped. To sit and wait for our fate to be handed out to us is the ultimate cultivator of restlessness. It's all we can do to find the little strains of joy in these moments we are given." She smiled a tiny, subtle smirk. "Is there anything that brings a smile to your face here, to focus on?"
