Protective - Be it family, friends, the elderly, children or just someone who is simply downtrodden, Nordeth will watch over and take care of those in need. She has always done this, ever since she was a young girl, and is a voice for those who are too scared or unable to defend themselves. She takes this sort of duty very seriously, and isn’t afraid to step into a situation if the need arises, even if she isn’t directly involved, initially. There are also those who might not want to be protected by her, and if that’s the case she will do her best to stay back and keep her distance. However, it will always be in her nature to keep a watchful eye on people, even if they don’t necessarily want her help. It’s best to ere on the side of caution, after all.
Mature – Nordeth has always been quite mature for her age. Even as a child, while the other kids would run around, goof off, and cause a ruckus, she preferred to stay back and help her parents with chores or make sure others didn’t cause trouble. It was a trait that she has held on to, so don’t expect her to make inappropriate jokes or act overly ridiculous. There is a time and a place for those sorts of things, and they are few and far between for her. While her maturity is something that those close to her have respected and praised, it’s not without its downsides, either. Due to this part of her nature, peers her age have not hesitated to call Nordeth stuffy or a stick-in-the-mud. She needs to learn to live a little, they say, but she tries to not let these comments bother her. She is who she is, and she’s happy with that. No use in fixing what isn’t broken.
Blunt – Don’t expect Nordeth to beat around the bush. She’s never been that type of girl. She will tell it like it is, and prides herself in being an honest person. Her honesty, however, can come at a cost, as sometimes it can come off as rude or hurt peoples’ feelings. Her bluntness can also be a bit off-putting in terms of dealing with people. Rather than just relaxing and getting to know others amicably, she tends to get straight down to business without thought of others. Some frown on this sort of behavior, and Nordeth often finds herself having to apologize if she gets ahead of herself too quickly.
History
Nordeth was born in a small village that was nearby to Aldren’s home village. Far away from the larger cities of Zena, it didn’t boast much in terms of entertainment. Her home was famous for one thing, however: sculptures made of ice and crystal that could often be found within the mountainous region. This was the village’s only real claim to fame, but Nordeth’s parents were happy with their little town. They had called it home in their youth, and so too would their daughter.
Nordeth’s mother, Eari, worked predominately as a homemaker. She also held the job as the overseer of the village, which included checking in on families and make sure that everyone had enough to get by. Amicable and outgoing, she seemed well suited for the job, and everyone in the town liked her. Nordeth’s father, Bayne, worked as a traveling merchant. His job led him away from home, and most frequently from Zena to the Jauhar settlement of Sol. Among his community, he was known for being both hardworking and jovial with an infectious laugh. Everyone knew how hard he worked in order to provide for his family.
Eari and Bayne’s daughter came into the world on a snowy night. While people huddled in their houses for warmth, Eari gave birth to a beautiful baby girl whom they named Nordeth. With the birth of their daughter, Bayne decided to take less merchant runs while she was still young. This way, he could be there for the baby and his wife for her formative years to help raise her.
It was around the age of five that Nordeth made her very first friend: a boy by the name of Aldren from a neighboring village. Eari had taken her Nordeth to visit her uncle in Aldren’s village, and while the two adults talked inside, the child found the young boy being pestered by some bigger, mean looking kids. Unafraid of the bullies and wanting to help Aldren, she stepped in and threw snowballs at the two who were pestering him until they ran away for good. That was the start of their friendship, and after that, Eari would make sure to bring Nordeth to play with Aldren at least twice a week (three times, if she was lucky).
Bayne started making his trade runs again when Nordeth reached the age of six. It was also at this time that he decided to bring the young girl with him on a run he was making to Soll. She was old enough, her father claimed, and the trip would do her some good. She could learn a lot on the way there. Knowing that her father would watch over her, Eari allowed the excited child to go, and the pair of them set of on their adventure.
Once father and daughter reached Sol, Nordeth’s life would change yet again. It was there that she met Quape, an older Shifter brute who was one of her father’s oldest friends and business partners. While Quape had been a brute in his prime, he no longer fought in battles and instead oversaw weapon-smiths and jewelers while selling their wares to Bayne. Nordeth took one look at Quape and knew that she would love hanging around him. He was also immediately drawn to her, too, viewing her as the daughter he never had. The two of them hit it off right away. Quape and what he did transfixed the young child, impressionable and entranced by the foreign culture of the Shifters. It was then and there that she decided she wanted to be a brute, just like him.
That was when Bayne and Quape made a major decision: Bayne would let Nordeth come and live in Jauhar. She would help Quape around the house or by running errands, and in return her would let her stay in Sol and eventually train in the ways of the brute. When she came of age, she would then return back home to Zena to be with her family and share what she had learned. Enthralled by the news, Bayne then would return home back to Zena, so that her daughter could explain everything to her mother, and so that she could say goodbye to her best friend.
Saying goodbye to Aldren was one of the hardest things for Nordeth to do. While she didn’t want to leave her friend behind, she also wanted to go back to Jauhar and learn as much as she could. She would come back, she promised. It would just take some time. And even though she was gone, she would never forget about him, and promised to have her mother and father check in with him from time to time. With all of that said, eventually Nordeth left the icy, mountainous region that was her home, and returned back to Jauhar to live with Quape.
Nordeth stayed in Jauhar for a good ten years or so. Over her time, she assimilated as well as she could to the culture, even going so far as to worship Shifter goddess, Serin, as her patron goddess. Bayne and Eari were perfectly ok with their daughter's change in faith. As a child and even as she grew older, Nordeth never really felt a particular connection to Chi. This is partially due to the fact that her parents aren't the most spiritual of people. The one Zenan deity she does worship, however, in tandem with Serin is the the sun god Ault. To her, it makes sense to worship both the sun and the moon together, as they are constantly there, no matter where a person is. Mountains can only be found in certain parts of Tendaji, so praising Chi does not make as much sense to her. Despite her newfound faith, Nordeth is still considerate of the beliefs of the majority of her people. She would not push her faith or beliefs on others.
As much as she learned and tried to fit in, however, the Shifters who called Sol home always looked at Nordeth with some awkward glances. She was an outsider, after all, so her presence was a bit odd. The young girl’s time in Jauhar was also abruptly cut short. She would have stayed in the country through her time as a prentice, but fate had another idea.
Quape ended up passing away before Nordeth could become a brute. Tired and in his old age, he passed away in the middle of the night due to a heart attack. The young woman, of course, was devastated initially, but she couldn’t be sad for very long. Her mentor wouldn’t have wanted that, and besides – it was about time she headed home, anyway. She could finish up her training to be a brute with a fellow Zenan, closer to home. And it was due to that reason that Nordeth made her way back to the icy region, and back to the small village that she had called home all those years ago.
Now that she is back home, Nordeth plans on not only settling back in with her parents, but also reconnecting with Aldren. The two lost contact over the years, but she still remembers him, so she’s eager to see if he still remembers her, too. That, along with her continued training to become a brute, are the things she is looking forward to the most.
Quirks
Doesn't drink alcohol or coffee; prefers to drink juice. Worships the Shifter goddess Serin in tandem with the Ice sun god, Ault. Runs a hand through her hair when stressed, anxious, or angry. Prays every morning to Ault and every evening to Serin. Feels more comfortable around Shifters than her native Ice earthlings. Is very direct and down-to-business; she prefers to get to the point, rather than beating around the bush.
