It wasn't long after the pledging ritual that had set her on the path towards becoming a knight when Nellie caught wind of the news going around that there were tasks that awaited them and they should approach the guild master to find out more about these. Standing before the board on which details of the various artefacts that needed to be retrieved were inscribed, she pointed to the gauntlet one.
"Could you put me on this one please?"
It seemed that there were a great many other apprentice-knights who had already set out before her but the success rate seemed pretty dismal so far. Taking hold of the map and the bag of food that she was handed, she started towards the stable to pick out a horse for herself. It was probably foolhardy to attempt this on her own but it was't as if she knew anyone else here just yet.

Sometime after the pledging ritual Cain was on the move, as anxious as ever to get started helping people. This was his chance. He had a destiny to live out and was damn set to do it. As he approached the guild master to find out about the lost artifacts his hands tightened. Nails cutting into his palms as a woman before him picked out the gauntlet quest, a good choice, appealing.
When it was Cain's turn to speak his mind had already settled on doing the same. Planning to catch the woman ahead after getting his own map, you couldn't go wrong with two pairs of eyes and with vision like his own they would be more valuable than ever. A squint at the map in hand and the apprentice knight hurried towards the stables. A place that seemed oddly familiar, maybe it was because he knew so much about horses? Perhaps.
Map tucked into his belt and food sack thrown over shoulder her called out to her, "Lo there! Wouldn't happen to be heading out would you?" He knew she was, but it was a friendly start.

Julius had wandered around aimlessly for awhile before he'd finally found himself overhearing two people speaking to the guild master. Maybe a quest would help him clear his head and he could start helping people, since that seemed to be the best way to start.
He followed the other two to the stables, clearing his throat once the first one - a male he presumed - spoke to the girl.
"Excuse me, I'd be willing to help out myself, if you wouldn't mind an extra set of hands?"
He eyed the horses for a moment, unsure of himself around the beasts - but he'd ride one if it meant helping. Ugh, couldn't they just walk?

It didn't take Nellie long to pick a mare that wouldn't try to throw her off as soon as the stablehand took his hands off of it. She was in the midst of securing her supplies when she heard someone call out to her. Turning around to regard the golden-haired apprentice-knight who too was sworn to serve Lancelot like herself, she smiled and simply nodded. "Yes I am. I thought I'll go check out one of the places that was marked out on the map by the guild master. See if I'll be able to retrieve one of the missing artefacts."
Pulling out the map that was handed to her by the guild master, she pointed out her intended destination for Cain's benefit, redirecting her attention momentarily at Julius who had stepped forth to offer his aid before nodding as well to indicate her acceptance of his offer. "Of course. Any help at all with this will be greatly appreciated really. Are the both of you new to this as well? I'm Nellie."
[Time Skip because I'm a horrible narrator orz]
The trek along the path that took their little group out of Camelot was a pleasant one initially though the rugged mountainous terrain eventually made it so dangerous that they had to watch every step they took lest they risked certain danger and harm to either themselves or the others. It so happened that they came across a wild lone wolf that wasn't pleased at all with the humans transpassing its territory. It stood directly in the path of their intended direction of travel, fangs bared as it growled in hostility.
Thinking it reasonable that they at least tried to resolve the matter peaceably in accordance with Lancelot's code to show understanding to those who needed it, Nellie, in all her naivety, stepped forth, her arms outstretched as she kept her tone soft and even. "Please. Let us pass. We mean you no harm..."
The wolf didn't listen to her of course, instincts driving it to lunge itself upon her, its large salivating jaws snapping onto her leg much to her horror.

When the woman regarded him Cain sought out a horse and without aid of the stable hand started to pack up. Seeming to already know his way around the horse and the workings of readying it for a journey. "Good, good. " He muttered in acknowledgement to her words, then briefly looked up through golden lashes as a male approached them. Another sworn to Lancelot it would seem. He nodded in time with Nellie's acceptance, the more the merrier it could turn out to be a good bonding for them and if they were lucky enough to stand each other perhaps they could party more often.
Working together was key after all.
A leg swung into the horse strap and the other sent him sailing up and onto the studs back. Easily getting settled and even stroking the slightly grouchy beast as it shook its head, "settle down." He hummed to the horse, patting its neck before taking the reins and looking up to the map Nellie held out for them to see. "That's where I'm heading as well, seems we can go the whole way together, what say you stranger?" He squinted at the man, unable to see him at his current distance or at least unable to make him out clearly. With a check of his weapon and food sack he offered, remembering only after finished with his task to be polite, "I'm known as Cain." And that was it, the majority of his conversation in the beginning of their adventure.

Even with Lancelot code he couldn't believe the woman had got off her horse in favor of trying to tame the beast. While he held a distaste for how it was handle he understood what she was aiming for. Though when the beast lunged Cain was jumping from his horse and coming to Nellie's aid, a stick picked up from the ground and slammed into the wolfs side in hopes it would release the woman's leg. "Get up!" He barked to her as the wolf did in fact release only to lunge at him and bite his arm only to abruptly flee afterwords.
A sharp wince and he looked to his newly obtained wound, then towards Nellie asking sincerely, "are you alright?"

Julius was glad that neither seemed opposed to him continuing on with them. So it was that he found himself a horse, loaded up supplies and prepared to follow them out.
[TIME SKIP]
He had reigned in his horse when the two had gotten attacked, and shaking his head, and started to work at tearing his cloak to give them a bit of mending.
"You two should be more care-" before he could finish his sentence, he nudged his horse into a hollow tree, the beast - temperamental at best, kicked it, causing a swarm of bees to come billowing out, stinging the poor animal before chasing after Julius, who began swearing and swatting at himself even as he found a body of water to dive into.
