It Takes a Village

_____Modern Pae'il have been exploring and spreading out on Telrunya for many seasons now. The time of individual survival and living like hermits is coming to an end. It's about time Pae'il came together to share in their commonalities and create settlements, and subcultures of their own.

Several established groups have been working hard preparing the land and preparing open communities for like-minded Pae. Each unique community can provide safety, food, and shelter. Finally, a place Pae can call home!

---

The first few settlements will be created as examples and as open areas for all Pae to explore and if they choose, to settle down. Each settlement will come with its own rules, laws, and conditions. Each one will also be a valuable source of raw material that pae will need to create items that increase the quality of life.

Trade routes have opened between the settlements, Trading Post and capitols.

Villages will be organic and adapt and evolve based on events that may take place with the metaplot. (Keep an open mind. wink )

Please note: these settlements are not a way to circumvent metaplot events. The Knights will still visit each village as they are under Knight protection by default, and tension and conflict will still exist. The villains do not follow village boundaries, either.

What We Need

Grandfathered Pae (existing before 2009-before Naiad appeared) can create any village they want. It is to be assumed by all Pae and it is canon that these villages have existed for seasons(years). You don't have to retcon any RP, but from here on out, they do exist. We want to limit the amount of hermit pae because they are not safe.

Important Villages the island will need:
  • Fishing Village - Goddess of Fish, Mnemo, will bless this type of village to be bountiful in their catches to provide food for the island.
  • Mining Town - Pae need ore, and a mining town up in the mountains will provide abundant resources for those artisans that require it.
  • Agriculture Villages - we need many different types which will provide food or raw materials for textiles.
  • Algae Farms - Algae will be the primary source to create fuel and plastic as Telrunya does not have fossil fuels. This will be primarily a Naiad occupation, but there are shallows in which land pae could successfully farm. The Light Faction will need fuel too.
  • Ranches - for raising livestock for food, transportation or other raw materials for trading (wool, milk, etc)
  • Outposts or small Forts- Small little Light Faction military camps used to keep a presence on the island.
  • Merchant Towns - towns specialized in dealing trade goods
  • Mountain Towns - specialized in hunting, tracking and can provide raw materials such as fur, hides, leather, coal, stone, etc.
  • Cliff Dwellings - artisan community providing pottery, clay, etc
  • Nomadic - woven textiles, limited trade goods
  • Ports - control some shipping routes, provides exotic trade goods
  • Vacation Locations - specialized in tourist activities
... This is just a sampling for now. Not everyone will run a village, so we may not have all of these. To apply, fill out the form and PM it to Iris. Staff will discuss it and make a decision. If approved, post your form in this thread.

Sparks Hollow

Village Name: Sparks Hollow
Founding Members: Drizelda, Joi, Lucia, Lucius, Shae, Jarek

What kind of Village is it?
  • Hidden Faerie village based on the ancient faerie villages from the Second Age. It is academic with a focus on learning the true history of the Fae. It also provides a home for wayward fae and fae hybrids. There are many historic points of interest in addition to properly restored dwellings that provide a unique living experience that is like a step back in time.

    Location description
  • Fairytale village in Northern Loka Nei that combines the new natural jungle with the original forest setting. There is a network of dwellings in the top of the tall jungle trees, connected by bridges. This part of the village is an ongoing restoration project overseen by Lucius and all denizens are encouraged to participate as a means of learning a new facet of history.
There is a tranquil creek that flows down a gentle waterfall to fill a large, very deep crystal clear pond. The pond has many small caves towards the bottom that can provide a cozy home for the water-inclined Pae who wish for a sanctuary away from the lake and busy waterways. From the pond, the creek flows through the center of the village before snaking towards the Chai'en Ravine.
There are homes built in to the trunks of many of the trees, and some freestanding homes as well, constructed of local fallen timber. There are lights provided by Dizzy's clan as her family's power is electricity. Her children and granddaughter all have the natural ability to create enough charge to light the entire village at twilight. The lights naturally dim to make way for the moonlight.

  • 9.5N 10.75W Sparks Hollow is located in Northern Loka Nei Jungle, about a day's walk from the Fae Clearing. The location is very important for the study of Faerie Pae'il history, and discovery of the lost artifacts.
  • The village itself is quite large when taking the size of the treetop homes in to account. On the ground, it looks like a cozy, welcoming lil place. The ground-level is approximately 2 and half square miles. It is hard to measure the upper level as it sprawls in all directions, and as the research and renovation project goes on, it will only get bigger.

    Village Details
  • Monetary unit: Like the rest of the island, the village primarily operate on the barter system. When trading with other villages, they use seeds as currency because the village has a large seedbank to ensure the future of their crops, and as a means to acquire goods they need.
  • Religion: Primarily the Guardians are recognized as the benevolent creators they are. However, spirituality is a very personal thing, so there is no preaching or censoring. The founding members live by example, so there will be a lot of praise and gratitude to the Guardians for their protection and abundant blessings.
Goddess of the Soul, Psyche is recognized as the deity watching over Sparks Hollow, blessing the denizens for happy, prosperous lives full of love.

  • Agriculture: There are some hanging gardens suspended from the treetop village. Some are green houses and some mimic colder climates so they can have a variety. It is also a challenge for some of the fae to see if they can get things to grow in unconventional conditions.
Many seasons ago, as a result of some bizarre twist of fate and scheming on the Avalon fairies part, Joi acquired seeds and clippings for some very rare and useful plants, fruits, herbs and other magical reagents. Denizens are allowed to grow anything they want of the available seeds for the season in their gardens. To prevent greed, only one type is allowed to be grown per season. This also encourages variety and diversity among crops, and trading between denizens.
      Available crops:
    • Mushrooms: a large variety including rare ones only cultivated in this village that are required for some potions and spells.
    • Fruit: Bananas, Bromeliads (pinapple), Sapodilla
    • Coffee Beans, Cacao
    • Various nuts
    • Rare Wood: Rubber Tree, Sapodilla
    • Chicle (latex extracted from the trees used for gum)
    • Ferns, Bamboo
    • Spices: Devil's Tongue, Jungle Rose, Pearl Flower, Purple Nettle, and Titans Orchid.
    • Magic reagents: Bee Fern (attracts bees-good for farmers), Dawn Singer (stinky flower), Fairy Queen (considered most beautiful flower in the world, it is very rare), Jungle Bells (collects rainwater, which mixes with pollen to create a natural sleeping potion), Lizard Tongue bush (very slimy), Purple Kiss (like a purple dandelion during the white fluffy stage), and Witch Petal (poisonous)

Note: The trees on this list cannot be planted in hanging gardens.

  • Labor Force: horticulturists, researchers, archaeologists, teachers, gatherers, hunters, harvesters (wood, chicle, wild fruit, mushrooms), archivists, construction, landscapers
  • Industry: chicle extraction, exotic lumber, processed magic reagents, walnut butter, bamboo furniture
  • Natural Resources: Mushrooms & lichen, nuts, cacao, rain water, fireflies, palm
  • Exports: Furniture made of bamboo or sapodillo, cacao, coffee beans, chicle, nuts and nut products, spices and magic reagents
  • Imports: textiles, fur, cotton, fish, hemp and hemp products (rope), sugar, honey, luxury items such as pearls, gemstones, ore, anything made of metal.
  • Major Trading Partners: Mountain town, Telrunya City, Kekomura

  • Communication: Primary communication is mellons. However writing is a very important part of this village's communication. They use the common written and spoken languages of the island, however there is a fae-specific language taught to the children in order to preserve a dying language. They cannot read or write any of the different elemental runic languages yet because a pae proficient enough to teach it is yet to move to Sparks Hollow.
  • Broadcast: via bulletin boards and public postings. And messenger fairies.
  • Transportation: Most fly or swim. But for transporting goods they use reindeer drawn carts, or hot air balloons. Fae are magical so many can just use their staff to levitate things to carry them shorter distances.
*There are 3 reindeer currently and they are spoiled rotten. The younger fae dote over them and they're often fed fruits and other sweets. They came from the mountains and seem to do okay in the tropical climate of Sparks Hollow; not requiring the colder climate. Dizzy suspects they wanted a pampered life so they moved in. The third one is still young, and it was cause for a huge celebration when he was born.

  • History: Sparks Hollow is not the brain child of Drizelda, the founder. No, it was her estranged son Lucius, who upon returning to the place of his birth that first sparked the idea.

      And so the legend goes:
The first Faerie Pae'il born on Telrunya in thousands of years, the young Dizzy built her home high atop a tree in Loka Nei Forest when the island was still small and floating in the air. It was there she lived with her loving husband and built a life and raised a family. Her progeny chose to live close to home, building their own dwellings in the neighboring trees. Joi chose to keep her home ground-level.

And out of the blue (literally) the island slipped out of the sky, coming to rest in the middle of an uncharted sea. It wasn't the smoothest of rides, and the island was in shambles. The land started to change, and adapt to the new climate. New cracks and fissures unveiled hidden secrets long buried by antiquity.

All around Dizzy's home, there appeared broken down old buildings that had been built right into the trees. As the forest transformed into jungle, more of these buildings appeared.

MEANWHILE, Joi had made discoveries of her. And I'm not talking about the guy she met. She and her new companion found themselves lost in some kind of ruined palace. Upon escape, they realized it was underground, hidden beneath the Fae Clearing. Within this underground deathtrap, the pair found many texts and scrolls.

When Lucius returned, he started studying and researching the mysterious ghost dwellings. He discovered that they were part of some ancient fae village and began restoring the buildings and bridges that he could. He also found that the villages sprawled for miles in all directions in the tree tops just under the canopy of the newly transformed jungle. The ruins were not visible from the forest floor or by air.

When Joi and Jarek brought back news of their adventure and discovery, Dizzy made the decision to bring on more fae to research and excavate. To help build on the findings. It was Lucius that said the newly restored huts in the trees could serve as housing for the volunteers.

And as more fae moved in to help out, a community was born.

With a little elbow grease, a few extra hands and a few seasons later, Sparks Hollow was born. So named because Dizzy's children are the progeny of the original electric fae, and if pae had last names, their family would be the Sparks.

Obviously this is just the SparkNotes version. wink The village has a rich history already in the years since its creation. Dizzy has translated many uncovered texts and has become the local expert on faerie pae'il. Of course, not much was known anyway, so it didn't take much to become the expert. But she has found her destiny and will lead other young fae in the right direction as they learn of their heritage and ancient beginnings.

  • Influence: fantasy fairytale villages in forests where the homes are built into the trees as well as lil communities of mushroom-topped homes. Add to this a sprawling network of dwellings and bridges in the tree tops.
    This is one inspiration

  • Archecture: Sturdy wooden structures that are organically connected to the trees and ground. Very ornate woodwork and round, curvy construction. No two dwellings are alike. "There are no straight lines in nature"

  • Government: Council - Dizzy heads the council, her eldest daughter Joi, is on the council and works as the librarian and there are 3 other elected members. Currently, Lucius serves on the council as head of infrastructure until a more qualified villager steps up. His main job is restoring the ancient treetop village structures. The other two council members are had of agriculture and head of finances(trading). Dizzy casts tie-breaker votes, and can veto anything she deems unsafe, or not in the best interest of Sparks Hollow.
    • Detainment: There is a room built into the trunk of the thickest tree that when there is need for detainment, is guarded. Otherwise it's used as a storage shed.
    • Law Enforcement: There is a peacekeeper that handles law breakers

  • Entertainment: Public entertainment that is provided includes fairy plays in the Village Commons; spa with massage, swimming, and a celebration every full moon that lasts through the night. The waterfall serves well as a slide and is quite fun. The rest of entertainment is provided by the individual and no one is judged if they have unique interests.
  • Education: This is the highest priority in Sparks Hollow. Dizzy has uncovered and learned a great deal of Telrunyan history, with a focus on the Fae, so she trains new teachers so they can teach the children. Basic education is also provided by the locals. Children raised in Sparks Hollow will have a bias towards fae and magic and speak both the common language and the fae language. For adult education, many master crafters regularly take on apprentices. There are also hands-on research trips to the ruins near the fae clearing in order to gather data.
  • Health Care: They are currently lacking in specialized healers so they are looking to lure a pae with toast to take up residence as their main healer. Until then, the local Avalon might heal if they're feeling inclined that day. In the mean time, they rely on healing potions imported from Kekomura as well as a few home remedies that denizens mix from locally grown herbs.

  • Finances: There is a seedbank where all seeds from each year's crops are stored. When planting season arrives, denizens withdraw what they need. Seeds can be used as monetary unit when trading with the other communities to acquire goods for the village's use. Detailed records are kept on deposits and withdrawals.

  • Archival System: There is an entire tree dedicated solely to displaying everything that is unearthed regarding history. The first story includes a museum displaying many of the priceless artifacts from the ruins near the Fae Clearing. There is also a comprehensive library which houses the most in-depth studies into Telrunyan history. Dizzy's own writings are available for public reading. There are also many ancient books which Dizzy works on translating in her spare time. There are also some rescued books from the HQ library wreckage that was saved before fairies looted it. (Dizzy does not know the books went to the City) All in all, the library is impressive and there will never be a lack of reading material.
*Joi serves as the librarian and can take on helpers

  • Housing: If a new denizen wishes to live on the ground level, the council member that is head of infrastructure organizes a house building party. The whole village will get together to set up a simple little cottage and celebrate afterwards to welcome the new villager. Fae will find any reason to get together to celebrate.
If a new denizen wishes to live among the dwellings in the tree tops, they merely need to choose one that is available for habitation. Many of them are not yet, as they are still being restored, but there are a fair number ready for new residents. All that is asked in return is to contribute to the villages main focus in restoration, research and discovery. And self-sufficiency. There are many social programs for new villagers to get started, but after a season, they are expected to paddle their own canoe.

  • Commonality: Sparks Hollow is a community that prides itself on providing an authentic Faerie lifestyle. There is emphasis on getting in touch with ones roots and learning through experience. Knowledge is the most valuable asset any pae can possess, and in Sparks Hollow, they nurture wisdom and encourage innovation. Even though village may appear to be a step back in time, research and new discoveries keep it modern and progressive.
Denizens should share a love of learning, willingness to work, and be interested in the history of the island.

    Kekomura

    Village Name: Kekomura
Founding Members: Takeko, Kane, Saffron, and Vika

What kind of Village is it?
    • Jungle village focused on horticulture and living in harmony with the surrounding environment.

      Location description
    • A central meeting area contains the pumps that draw water up from the river below and make it the buzz-center of the village. Surrounding this open area are the homes of the residents, many homes small now, but showing signs of the personal touches being slowly added by their residents. Many of these homes have personal gardens with a variety of small, specialized crops being cultivated. The largest home is also the oldest, belonging to the village's head matriarch, commonly seen in her own private garden.
    • The main section of town is located on the southern edge of the ravine that splits the Loka Nei Jungle in two (approx. 12.75 x 12.50 as shown here). There has been no development down the cliff face or on the Chai'en River's shoreline down in the ravine at this time...but has been considered for future expansion.
    • Currently only a central square, a few homes and their gardens, but constantly expanding.

      Village Details
    • Monetary unit:
Business is done on a barter system. The village can supply most of what it needs to function, however, there are certain goods valued by its founders that carry some weight, primarily baking supplies such as flour and sugar, and seafood, especially fresh shrimp.
    • Religion:
Kekomura is a Guardian-loyal village, though the level of piousness of its residents may vary. Those of different beliefs will not be persecuted...but they may be educated on the glory of the Guardians in an attempt to convert them if they show the slightest sign of interest.
    • Agriculture:
Thanks to some cuttings and seeds gifted to Takeko by Faroth, Kekomura now has a thriving crop of bananas, coffee beans, cacao, bamboo, spices (including Jungle Rose, Purple Nettle, Pearl Flower, Titan's Orchid) and magical reagents (including Bee Fern, Jungle Bells, and Purple Kiss). These crops may be utilized by the village, but there's not necessarily enough to export elsewhere. There are other naturally thriving herbs that can be processed into useful potions and cures which are then used for trade.
    • Labor Force:
All adult Pae'il are expected to contribute something to the village, at least if they expect to share other items/services in turn. Teens are at least expected to chip in from time to time as help is needed and also to start exploring their own talents. There is always a need for those to help tend crops, cook food, gather wood for fires and bamboo for any new construction, or even go fishing in the nearby river.
    • Industry:
Natural cures and medicinal potions; furs and cured hides.
    • Natural Resources:
A plethora of herbs and magical reagents that may be tended, harvested, and processed into potions and remedies for sale; hunting in the jungle is also plentiful and while the village utilizes the meat for its own use, the furs and hides are processed for additional trade.
    • Exports:
Herbal remedies and potions; seasonings and spices; some fur and hide
    • Imports:
Baking supplies (flour and sugar primarily), fresh seafood (shellfish especially), mushrooms, nuts, tools, furniture, textiles such as hemp or cotton
    • Major Trading Partners:
      Telrunya City, Sparks Hollow

    • Communication:
Primary use of communication within the village as well as with outside sources is Mellon messaging. All written communication and documentation is done in Common Script as used in the City by the Angels and Demons there.
    • Broadcast:
The village having grown too large to have such meetings in her home, if ever an announcement is to be made, the head of the village lets her supporting members know, who then go out and summon the rest to the common meeting area at the center of the village for the message delivery.
    • Transportation:
Personal travel is usually done by flight. When it comes to transporting goods, potions can be packed carefully and will travel light, however larger shipments and any also including furs and hides must make use of other methods, such as land-bound carts, which can be much slower, but can transport far more goods at a time. Additional air transport methods are under investigation.

    • History:
More years ago than she cares to count, Takeko was doing her best to find her own way on the Isle. It wasn't easy for the then-timid angel, especially upon adopting a feisty, feral demon child. It seemed a Guardians-send when the kind demon Aspen swept into her life. The two fell deeply in love and decided to build their home by the Chai'en River for themselves and the demon boy, Kane.

The Fae child, Cabel, was the next to be adopted by the kind-hearted angel and her mate. Then, the pair had children of their own. Time passed and it seemed each time the empty nest threatened, the Guardians would bless Takeko with a little one to care for. Her children came and went, going out to forge their own lives on the Isle.

Then, the Isle fell from the sky. Her home suffered some minor damage and remained standing, but was no longer located by a quiet river; instead a vast chasm with a churning river lay far below. Her mate and her daughter were nowhere to be found. In time, her adult children, some with their own children by now, slowly returned, some deciding to stay in a more permanent fashion. New homes were built, and the extra help was welcome in her growing potions business. And who would argue against seeing more of family again?

She never imagined that so many would gather around her simple home, but as arrangements were made, she slowly began to realize that this was more than just a simple home by this point. It was a growing community, for those she had loved and raised, as well as those whose lives had been touched in turn.

    • Influence:
Something of a self-supporting commune, Kekomura is built around the idea of living at harmony with the environment while making use of its blessings in a peaceful co-existence. On appearance and atmosphere, it's meant to appear natural, as if a part of the jungle itself, rather than a sudden jarring change when stumbled upon. Homes are made of natural materials and blend into the landscape, like so.

    • Architecture:
New arrivals who decide to settle down will be aided by the community in building their starter home. These homes are very basic, built from wood, bamboo, and natural thatched roofs, with little extraneous touches. It is a safe shelter from the elements and a place to call one's own. At that point, the individual is free to make changes, additions, and whatever personal touches they want to add on their own time and effort. As a result, the older homes can be quite...eclectic, depending on the individuals.

    • Government:
The village is headed by Takeko as the leading matriarch. She is assisted by three Pae who handle details for her in varying areas of the village. Kane heads up security for Kekomura, Saffron provides back-up in dealing with horticultural issues, and Vika serves as a spokesperson in helping negotiate trade within the village as well as with outside sources.
      • Detainment:
At this time, other than the teenagers being grounded, there has been little need for detainment. When the time comes, a building will be constructed for use as a jail, with the hope that it will never be needed.
      • Law Enforcement:
Until recently, there has been no reason to suspect that any harm would ever come to the residents here. Following the kidnapping of Xiulan, concern for the residents, especially the children, prompted Kane to begin taking patrols of the area. While there have been no incidents as of yet within the village to respond to as crimes, if there are, they are likely to meet with an angry tiger and a possessive harpy aiming to protect 'her' village at the least.

    • Entertainment:
The common area at Kekomura's center is used for a number of social gatherings. The water pumps draw much activity to the area, so it seemed only natural to use it for other events. Feasts can be held here in celebration of personal events, such as birthdays, or for community events, like a particularly bountiful harvest. There are also nights where the residents gather for a bonfire and stories, to entertain both young and old.
    • Education:
Believing it best to lead by example, Takeko has always tried to teach her children anything she believed they might need to know in life. And when they expressed interest in learning about something, she encouraged that pursuit of knowledge.
By that design, adults share the responsibility of educating the next generation. All are given general instruction on reading and writing Common Script, as well as basic tasks relating to cooking and gardening. Any who display particular interests may be noticed and adopted for extra training by adult 'specialists'. For example, any child or teen showing aptitude and skill relating to hunting would likely be taught by Kane. Those who like cooking or show an aptitude for herbs and potion making would do extra training with Takeko.

    • Health Care:
Takeko's mixtures can treat many common ailments and small wounds. Kane has also shared some knowledge of 'field medicine' and first aid as it were for incidents that may happen while alone or away from help. However, serious injuries, as well as curses or Taint, at this time, must be taken care of by Avalon healing fairies.

    • Finances:
There is currently no banking system in the village. Many resources are shared commonly, so as long as Pae'il are contributing their share, they may also take from what is available that they need. There is no monetary system, as they function on barter, so if someone is contributing their efforts with a harvest of bananas, then they may receive fish or spices in trade.

    • Archival System:
Main business and trade within the village is done in the common area in the center of the village. There are some records, as well as recipes and magical formulas that are recorded and kept in the village elder's house (AKA, Takeko's home).

    • Housing:
New homes are built as the village expands. Once there is a need, the community comes together to help a new Pae and/or family build their basic starter home. They are free to do any additions to this house on their own later.

    • Commonality:
Though a majority of the village worships the Guardians, the aspect that draws them all together is something a bit more grounded: the belief that nature has many blessings for those who know how to find them. Many of the residents attribute these blessings ultimately to the Guardians, but that doesn't mean they take anything for granted. Nature is a bounty, but must also be respected, out of graciousness, but also out of caution. There are dangers in the world, but those who have gathered in this village protect and care for one another. In honor of the woman who brought most of them together, Kekomura remembers that sometimes, family is more than just blood.

    Koehaira

    Village Name: Koehaira (ko-eh-HAI-ra)
Founding Members: Elizabeth, Amapola, and Xanthea

What kind of Village is it?
    • A small, but growing, village dedicated to grape-growing and wine-making. This village is perfect for anyone looking for a simple lifestyle and a close community.

      Location description
    • Describe what the village may look like: Roughly organized around a main square, with most houses to the south near the cliff, the vineyard to the northwest, and a burgeoning orchard to the northeast. The village has the look and feel of one that is growing, but can't grow much further without more residents.
    • Geography: 22.5N x 7.5W Located at the edge of Ithyl Forest, on the cliff overlooking Tuatha'ri Lake.
    • Approximate size: Started as a few houses grouped together, but has since grown to several houses and some buildings dedicated to viticulture and wine production.

      Village Details
    • Monetary unit: Guild Coins as a standard. There are also some coins running around specific to Koehaira, which are leftover bits of glass with a grape leaf stamped into them. These glass coins aren't accepted elsewhere, but serve as sort of a shorthand within the village.
    • Religion: The villagers follow the Guardians but are fairly loose with their practice, not as devout as most City-dwellers but more "spiritual". Euphrosyne, goddess of mirth and winemaking, is the patron deity of Koehaira. In the late summer there is a Grape Harvest Festival and the first cup of the best wine (and probably more) is offered to Euphrosyne as thanks for a plentiful harvest. The whole village celebrates with wine and food and drink, plays games, etc.
    • Agriculture: The villagers maintain what used to be a small vineyard but has since grown into a large one. They harvest grapes to make wine, and sell both grapes and wine in the City. They have also planted some fruit trees nearby and have begun to make fruit wines as well.
    • Labor Force:
      • Preparing the soil, planting, and maintaining the vineyard - overseen by Ruya
      • Harvesting grapes, stomping to begin wine production - overseen by Masozi
      • Winemaking - overseen by Niabell
      • Making bottles, hauling sand from other parts of the Isle - overseen by Kasmai
      • Bottling - overseen by Xia

    • Industry: Wine and wine grapes - these things can be traded in the Capitals and other villages.
    • Natural Resources: Grapes!
    • Exports: Wine in bottles and barrels. They also export the bottles and barrels themselves.
    • Imports: Most other food sources. Meat, bread, fruit and vegetables, fish, etc.
    • Major Trading Partners: Telrunya City is its main trading partner. Other major trading partners include Sunrise Terrace, Partayzia, Sparks Hollow, and Zamarad. Others may be added if a resident wants to act as trade liaison.

    • Communication: Angel and Demon script are both used. Miriam acts as a courier, bringing messages to and from Telrunya City, and anywhere else mail needs to go.
    • Broadcast: Elizabeth got tired of the proverbial grapevine, so has taken to nailing important notices to her door. Seems like everyone in the village is at her house twice a day anyway.
    • Transportation: Most of the villagers are wingy types, so flying seems the most natural. Since liquid tends to be heavy, hot air balloons are used to transport wine to the City. Carts are used to transport to other locations.

    • History: Elizabeth never was fond of the busyness of City life. As she and Amapola sort of raised themselves, they grew up on the outskirts of town anyway. When they decided they were old enough to have a house of their own, they just built one at the edge of the forest. It took them a long time, just the two of them with no real experience in building, and their home is still rather...lopsided. Amapola says it gives it character. Elizabeth raised Kieran in that home before he left with his wife. Amapola raised Masozi there, and when he was old enough and had a wife of his own, they built him a house too. And so it went; whenever someone needed a house, they'd just build one nearby (they got better with practice). That's how the village started.

    • Influence: Definitely heavily influenced by Telrunya City, as all founding members are angels.

    • Architecture: Most of the buildings have the "log cabin" look, since nobody has the tools or skills to make lumber out of trees.
    • Government: Elizabeth tends to run things. There's not an official system of government, but she does act as a sort of "mayor".
      • Detainment: There's no official jail, though it's rumored that Elizabeth will haul people to a remote island if it's necessary.
      • Law Enforcement: Cari is the resident peacekeeper; she does not take kindly to people disturbing the peace.

    • Entertainment: Every week or so, the whole village comes together to prepare a meal together and eat. Masozi and Cari, and perhaps any resident harpies, provide music, and dancing is common to see.
    • Education: Because of the dual nature of the village (village life/City life), most children are sent to the City for their education. When they are very small, however, they learn by watching their parents, and Amapola also pulls double duty as a teacher. Eventually, if there are enough residents, she may quit her job in the City and be a teacher full-time in the village.
    • Health Care: Crystalline provides minor healing. For anything major, they'd need to take the injured Pae'il to Telrunya City.

    • Finances: There's no real banking system. Elizabeth has crafted a vault to store coin/resources not being actively used for safekeeping.

    • Archival System: After records of harvests and wine sales took over a room in Elizabeth and Xanthea's house, Elizabeth gratefully passed off recordskeeping to Xanthea herself, who so far is much better at keeping things organized and manageable. Now that Citlali has returned, he plans to establish a library which will house both Xanthea's records archives and other scrolls, both for research and pleasure reading.

    • Housing: New pae to the village will have to procure their own housing, but everyone will come together to help them build it, almost like an old-fashioned barn-raising.

    • Commonality: A simple life away, but not too far removed, from the City. A place of plenty where pae can drink wine and break bread together, where there is work for everyone, even the littlest or weakest.

    Agauni

    Village Name: Agauni (ah-gow-nee)
Founding Members: Texas Pete, Criofan O'Kane, and Ei-Kal

What kind of Village is it?
This village is a haven. Those who have originally gathered here have not necessarily formed a bond over a particular thing, but rather of a particular idea: safety in a greater family.

Due to the presence of Criofan, this location has developed into a Merchant Town, with a deep valuing of intelligence. Criofan himself runs a successful trading empire, with trade connections throughout the isle. Discovering the nearby source of algae will be a definite boon to this business as time goes on.

Those in the village believe that as they all coexist on Telrunya Isle together, they should coexist. Due to their mixed populous, they are almost militantly neutral, and will not tolerate any in the village showing themselves--at least, within the village walls--to not be accepting or at least willing to learn.

      Location description
    • Describe what the village may look like
What was one originally two houses from before the fall has started to take a larger shape. Near Tuatha'Ri Lake in the area of Pae'Kippu Beach, there are two houses in the center of the village with multiple floors harkening back to the days of the Headquarters. Further out, surrounding those, are other houses, typically smaller, of an almost hut like size that would work best near the water, where varying tides might be a concern.

Over time, an archway has appeared to signify entrance to the village, and as time goes on, a fence will start to block off the area from outsiders who are not welcomed entrance.

    • Geography
Located at 15.75N, 13.25W, on the Southeastern edge of Pae'Kippu Beach where the soil and sands are stable enough to build on, Agauni has quick access to the main trade road, as well as a lush patch on the other side of the bridge that is being surveyed.

    • Approximate size
The village's population is relatively small, though it can continue to grow outwards for now.

      Village Details
    • Monetary Unit: The village functions mostly on barter and does not appear to attribute any significant value to certain goods. It is said, though, that the village has a particular fondness for precious metals. They also seem to find information quite valuable, and can sometimes be convinced to give goods for the right data...
    • Religion: While functionally an agnostic village, due to the mixed population, neither Texas nor Criofan thought it appropriate to mix religion into the village's function. A villager is free to worship--or not worship--whatever they want. Any discriminatory behaviour from a villager based on another villager's religion will first result in a warning. Continued behaviour will result in the villager being removed.
    • Agriculture: With the village location on the sands, it is a bit more difficult to grow anything of use outside of water plants. Texas intends to have villagers scout for areas in the nearby forest and marshes they could use to be more self-sufficient. For now, they mainly grow water plants and fish for meat.
    • Labor Force: Villagers are usually given slack when they first arrive, giving them time to get acclimated and used to the perhaps jarring make-up of the village. They will be expected to eventually take up some kind of work in the village, perhaps guarding the village, scouting for the village, trading for the village, or gathering for the village. Other possible jobs will be needed in the future as the village expands.
    • Industry: Ei-Kal is a proficient jeweler, and he along with his son Kheliot create jewelry and charms. Kheliot's in particular are said to grant luck...
    • Natural Resources: Being near the lake provides them with quick access to algae.
    • Exports: Items traded naturally from the village include: Algae, Seafood, Jewelry and Charms via Ei-Kal and Kheliot, Spirits via Magnus, Information (Note: Criofan also has a rather large trading business and likely has a lot of random things not sourced from the village that he may trade again for benefit to the village.)
    • Imports: Precious Metals, Textiles, Meats and Non-Lake Seafood, Fruits and Vegetables (until further notice), Information.
    • Major Trading Partners: The main place of trade for this village is the Trading Post. They also have connections with the City and the Water Palace, as needed. Extensive distance from the Tree prevents them from having any significant ties to it.

    • Communication: The village uses the Common Language almost exclusively, though they have a few experts in the varying languages of the Isles they can use to communicate in writing. (Texas knows Angel and Demon Script, Zakira has been learning Water Glyphs, et cetera)
    • Broadcast: Texas, the public face of the village, will call Town Center meetings to speak to the village as needed.
    • Transportation: Within the village, by air via their wings or by foot if they lack wings is the most common. Outside of the village, many of the villagers are inclined to their teleportation abilities. Where those are not available or inconvenient, they have been defaulting to feet and air. Criofan has obtained a few mountain goats he uses to haul more items around.

    • History: When Texas, Criofan, and Magnus grew up together and chose to settle near each other as a result, the sparks of a village were born. While Magnus has chosen to stay more passive in the process, Criofan and Texas have both been gradually gathering more into the fold, allowing them to build nearby and granting them the same family feeling as the initial family did.

    • Influence: Not necessarily influenced by any one culture, this village is a blend of sorts. The most dominant cultures are those of the fae and the pre-City Light pae'il, as these are the strongest populations.

    • Architecture: Some of the buildings are surprisingly modern looking, an influence leftover from the days of the Headquarters. The houses are relatively understated, built for functionality moreso than style, and built in such a way to resist winds and waters that may hurt their stability.

    • Government:
The government is arguably already split into branches, which will become more defined as the village grows. The finances are handled by Criofan and his Family, perhaps for obvious reasons. The executive side of things, namely law making, law enforcement, and diplomacy is handled primarily by Texas. Ei-Kal's experience with fine construction makes him a fair fit for the continued infrastructure and growth of the village.

While there is no need for excessive rules yet, as the village grows, Texas will accept proposals for new ones from the village populous. If accepted to be reasonable, they will then go to a vote, otherwise the law is considered vetoed.

      • Detainment: While there is currently no need for anything of the sort, a larger village will likely cause a small jail to be built.
      • Law Enforcement: Though the village population is currently still small, Texas already has a few guards for their village. Danori is currently considered the lead guard. Anyone breaking the rules in the future would be brought to Texas for judgement.

    • Entertainment: The village itself does not currently provide entertainments for the villagers, though they have had no trouble finding their own. Vangelis, musically-inclined, has been encouraging musical development in the family.
    • Education: The village is small enough that a teacher has never been considered. All children so far have been taught by either Texas or Criofan, with an intellectual focus that will make them learned and well-spoken pae'il. If there is an increase of children in the village, it is likely they will procure a teacher or two. Intelligence is generally valued in the town, and the expansion of knowledge, especially to benefit the group as a whole, is encouraged.
    • Health Care: There is a sorry lack of healers in the village at current. While they are lucky enough to not really need them right now, they will likely need to attract one soon.

    • Finances: They do have banks of sorts, mostly working off a lending system. Criofan and his Family will handle most of the village finances, including finances for those in the village if needed.

    • Archival System: This is currently done communally, with records being made and stored as needed in one of the main buildings. Ilazia's ability has caused her to need to be quite good at archiving, and she will take over as town archivist once she is old enough, pushing everything into a universal system.

    • Housing: Unless they were already there, new housing will generally have to be built by scratch for new residents. There is, however, temporary housing available in a building that has been set up much like an inn might be.

    • Commonality: A village that values a good trade and cunning above much else, Agauni attracts those who want a worldly view of the Isle, with many Pae'il coming in and out to trade with those who live there. It's a merchant town, first and foremost, and many of those who settle there will also likely have things to add to the trading businesses that flourish in the area.

Village Name: Amārēmur (Las Venus lol)
Founding Members: Venus, Her Retinue including Priestesses and Cult members, Head Priestess Hadrian

What kind of Village is it?
Settled around the Temple of Venus, this village is a luxury Pae'Il resort. Whether lounging on the beach, getting pampered in the spa, engaging in gambling or other adult activities (We won't tell!), or catching a family friendly show, Pae of all breeds and creeds can relax and enjoy the finer things in life... for a price, of course.

    Location description
    - The village radiates from the centralized Temple of Venus. There are homes, spas, a casino and hotel, and several amphitheatres for performances. There is a large bakery specializing in cakes, pastries, pies, and candies. Most of the important buildings are fitted with columns, and statues of Venus and the her children scattered here and there. An open market with lines of stalls sits in front of the temple and acts as a meeting place as well as the economic center of the village.
    - 16N8W Amārēmur is nestled between the Ithyl Forest and Cha'en Beach. This gives tourists a centralized location to enjoy tranquil nature walks, bonfires on the beach, and with a bit of hiking enjoy the waters of Silme and the rocks of Aura Nin's base.
    - The village is the size of a medium to large town. It employs approximately 50-100 Pae'il, excluding traveling merchants and performers. The employees and families share quadplex structures.

    Village Details
Monetary unit: The accepted form of currency is the cupid, a heart-shaped piece of marble about the size of a coin. Since tourism is the biggest industry, the open market has a thriving currency exchange, and these can be cashed out upon leaving the village.
    Religion: Epicurianism and Hedonism
Agriculture: Hospitality is the major source of income. There is also a booming flower market to appease Venus.
Labor Force: The villagers keep the village running smoothly. Some are dealers in the casino. Some work in the pleasure business. Some are actors, spa attendants, temple priestesses, chefs, merchants, florists, and tour guides. Pae are free to choose their occupations as long as there is a need and are generally happy with their jobs.
Industry: The village relies heavily on tourism and being a trading hub.
Natural Resources: An abundance of flowers grow in and around the village of various species and types.
Exports: The main export is fresh flowers, sweets, and Venus' love.
Imports: The village imports textiles and the majority of its food from outside sources.
Major Trading Partners: Trading Post, Laisidhiel, Alu Spring, and others

Communication: Messages are sent by couriers. They are usually translated from the runes of the dieties into the language of the recipients and written onto scrolls.
Broadcast: Mellons and guards alert villagers to gather in the market for any major announcement. When Venus needs to address them, she will do so from the top of the Temple steps.
Transportation: The most common mode of transportation is by chariot. Some are pulled by horses or steer; for the authentic Amārēmur experience, tourists can hire rickshaw-style chariots pulled by muscular, sweaty beefcake pae. The ladies are particularly fond of this mode of transportation. Any goods that cannot be flown are pull in carts by work animals or sent over the lake in boats.

History: Venus felt that her temple was too secluded and lonely. She needed a place to play and bask in adoration.

    Influence: Greco/Roman and Epicurean

Architecture: Romanesque with columns, open gardens, an open market, spas and bath houses, and outdoor stages.

Government: Venus acts as president, queen, and self-proclaimed celebrity. Her law model of "Don't be an a**, Darlings." is posted throughout the town. Her pet peeve is thievery, and she has been known to come up with creative punishments when she is around for sentencing. For the most part she leaves the Pae'il to themselves as she cannot permanently live on Telrunya. The real governorship falls to the head priestess. Hadrian is called in when there are disputes or major grievances to settle the quarrel or dole out punishment. She oversees the day to day workings of the village and uses the other priestesses as a cabinet when voting or suggestions are wanted.
Detainment: There is a cell at the edge of the city market. It has a floor and ceiling and bars all around; it looks rather like a city zoo cage. Hot heads are sent there until they can cool off or sober up. Local Pae find this hilarious and will sometimes taunt the prisoners. Punishment ranges from time in the drunk tank to fines to banishment. Any harsher punishment would only be considered if it were to fit the severity of the crime.
Law Enforcement: Venus' corps of guards are called the Amores. They are armored and carry spears or swords. Usually the most they have to bother with are relaying messages, gathering the villagers, or herding drunk Pae to their rooms or the drunk tank. They have been known to scuff up a thief, who seems to never return. Must be banishment... yeah, banishment.

Entertainment: Concerts, Plays, Food, Drink, Gambling, Adult Only Entertainment, Shopping, Relaxing, Hiking, Beach Parties. Amārēmur has it all!
Education: The Hall of Records also serves as a school for children to learn the basic literacy and math needed. From there children are divided by future occupation and sent to various vocational classes.
Health Care: The main spa also serves as the clinic. A small group of Avalon healing fairies and their attuned Pae'il assistants keep everyone in ship shape. As of yet, there has been no taint.

Finances: The casino's house bank serves as the major banking institution. There is also a currency exchange in the market that employs its own fleet of guards.

Archival System: Scrolls and ledgers are scrupulously kept in the hall of records. The house always wins and has the records to prove it.

Housing: Most Pae live in housing complexes. Pae who want to build their own homes on the edge of town are allowed to, but the quadplexes are rent-free as long as they are upkept. There is an application process and a wait for housing as they are built.

Commonality: The majority of the inhabitants are members of the Cult of Venus, also called Erotics. There is a mix of other cultures welcome and accepted both with tourists and with performers/dealers/etc. At this time, Venus encourages trade with all other villages, settlements, and Pae'il. This is subject to change at any time at her whim, be it rational or not.

    Village Name: Kurt's Ranch
    Founding Members: Kurt and Zofie

What kind of Village is it? Ranching

Location description 14N, 16W-Located with the Waplei Marsh to the right, ocean to their back and the trading post to the far left, the Ranch currently consists on one large single story home with a large barn immediately to the left. There are four pastures set up to rotate the herd to avoid over grazing and to separate the males from the females. In front of the house is a fenced in front yard with rows of dedicated cotton. There is plenty of flat grassy land to expand for the future.

      Village Details
    • Monetary unit: Anything they cannot proved themselves, meat, veggies fresh fruit and spices beyond salt.
    • Religion: Full Guardian Worship but it goes against village belief of hospitality to turn away or punish anyone who does not believe.
    • Agriculture: Cotton and everything Alpaca
    • Labor Force: There is a job for everyone to keep the ranch going, everyone is expected to find something to do to better the lives of the village.
    • Industry: Raw cotton and alpaca fibers can be roughly put together for shipping out. Alma is a builder able to make anything out of stone and willing to work for other villages to support her own.
    • Natural Resources: Salt is collected from the ocean and kelp is collected from the beach for livestock and culinary uses.
    • Exports: Alpaca products, cotton, salt, kelp, bricks and building, Donkeys, mountain goats
    • Imports: Meats, spices, veggies, fruits
    • Major Trading Partners: Trading Post, City

    • Communication: Angel Script is primary communication with mellons being trusted to help with delivery of messages.
    • Broadcast: Currently the leadership would talk to the individuals one on one with group meetings behind preferred ways to build consensus.
    • Transportation: Flying is used for small loads, walking with aid of alpaca pulled carts are used for large loads.

    • History: Kurt awoke from the Hall of Lost souls again, disorientated and at a loss. Everything he once knew was almost completely gone. Lost was his family and the HQ that he had once relied on as his focal point of normalcy. Instead of raging at the heavens he was left with a sense of awe, awe at the powers of the Guardians and determined not to waste away his life this time.

On his way to search for his family, he found the equally alone Zofie. The two formed a psudo-father daughter dynamic and came up with a plan. Since nothing was given to them anyone more, they would work for it. Once at the Port both found jobs. Kurt helped with the ships and Zofie worked as an apprentice with a Merchant. It was there Kurt became interested in the alpaca and decided that it was what he wanted to raise.

For a few seasons the two worked hard and eventually earned what they needed to start the ranch. With help they built the main home and the barn along with the beginning herd. The HQ was always important to him so everything that was left to be salvaged was used in the construction. Tools and kitchen wear had first priority, but the wood was also treasured. He wanted the ranch to feel like the HQ and strangely, it does. Zofie chose to grow cotton as her primary job due to liking the smell and softness of the end product. This ranch was made to be the home that was lost.

    • Influence: The culture is heavily influenced by Kurt's memories of what the island was like as he grew up with a big emphasis on how he remembered the HQ.

    • Archecture: The buildings are very ranch house style with long rather then high focusing on function over form.

    • Government: (describe who runs the village and how)
The Village is a patriarchy with rule given to the oldest related male --Arista by virtue of his relationship with Zofie--when Kurt is not there personally. All members of the village once they of age have a say and are free to voice concerns directly to the leader. If it comes to a tie, Kurt is the final vote and holds veto power if the idea is deemed unsuitable.

    • Detainment: At this time there is no place to put prisoners, the barn could work over night but preferred method of dealing with trouble makers is to exile them.
    • Law Enforcement: Kurt is the law and expects his word to be taken as such. The males are expected to keep an eye out for trouble and protect the females as well as the herd.
    • Entertainment: There are the alpaca to play with and the ocean behind the ranch to swim.
    • Education: Zofie is in charge of teaching the Angel script and passes on knowledge she picked up from her time working at the trading post. Primary focus is the ranching which is taught on the job.
    • Health Care: Kurt heals the animals. The village is blessed with an Avalon fairy to assist with caring for the pae of the village until a healer is found.

    • Finances: (is there a bank?) There is no bank or real person wealth, everything is communal.

    • Archival System: Kurt's home is the center of the village main meeting place and storage for any records.

    • Housing: Each pea will have to provide their own home, there is no more room in the main house for anyone else to live.

    • Commonality: The HQ, when it existed, provided for all of the needs of anyone who came there. Kurt strongly remembers a refrigerator that when opened had anything they could ever want and every room had just want one needed. The ranch is built partly in the spirit of that persevered generosity of the guardians. Everyone is to be given shelter if they need it and food as possible. The guardians love all and as should they. The ranch is a family everyone together, welcomed and cared for.

What kind of Village is it?
    Millery

    Location description
Imagine, you climb onto the banks of the river, in the middle of the Loka Nei Jungle. All you see all around you are tall trees and what you think is a field that looks like you need a machete to walk through. What kind of trees? You look up, hoping to see some sort of leaf to tell you what it is you’re looking at and you spot several huts made of what you think is mud and straw! With a start, you realize you just walked into a village that had been built into the trees themselves.

13.5N 10.5W, right off the river. Still within the massive confines of the Loka Nei Jungle, a small area of land has been cleared away of trees and shrubs to create the cozy little home for this village. While the housing is above your head, around the edges of the cleared areas, their main growing area is all you walk through when on land.

Moderately sized, though not all of the structures would be visible having been built in the trees.

    Village Details
    • Monetary unit: Luxury items, spices, shiny things.

    • Religion: Guardians, but accepting of all races and beliefs.

    • Agriculture: There are several nearby fruits in the area that the residents gather, mainly tropical in origin. They also grow wheat and small amounts of cotton for production.

    • Labor Force: There are jobs in construction, gathering, hunting, preservation, maintenance. Of course there are numerous jobs within the mill itself, making sure no one kills themselves handling the product being created.

    • Industry: Milling

    • Natural Resources: Cranberries

    • Exports: Paper, flour, cranberries, textiles, corn, seed oil, breads, ect...

    • Imports: Cotton, algae, alpaca noms,

    • Major Trading Partners: Sparks Hollow, Kurt’s Ranch, Fort Raken

    • Communication: While the leaders of the village can use both Angel and Demon Scripts, the rest of the inhabitants may not be so well versed. An attempt is made at translating all written communication into a script that the villagers can all read. The preferred method of communication is spoken, aiming at not leaving anypae out of the loop.

    • Broadcast: The leaders will go around and personally spread the news if it’s something small, or they will gather everyone in the center of the village and announce an emergency. There is a weekly meeting held in the same place at approximately midday at the end of the week to solve any issues that had been brewing between residents or even traders with their customers.

    • Transportation: Traveling is a little tricky. For their own personal use, they use their own two feet or wings. For gathering, they have wheeled carts to transport the heavy wheat across the fields. When dealing with trading villages, there is a small cargo boat available to transport large amounts of product, otherwise, an alpaca borrowed from Kurt’s Ranch

    • History: As far as she can remember, Starry has been taking in pae, feeding them, and giving them a judgement free shelter. Anything she could do to make their life a little easier. All the while, there was a family that would steadily grow in her life. With that many mouths to feed she started asking some of the pae who stayed to help her gather some of the few things that were growing in the area. Eventually as more pae started moving in, trees began to be cleared out, leaving room for a field. As the space for a field grew, an idea started to form in Starry’s mind. After a while of consideration, she gathered a few who were good with construction and began to work on the creation of a mill. There were some obvious mishaps, failures, and outright monstrosities while attempting to make it, but eventually a mill was created. A conundrum was found though, when she realized they had no crops to grind inside the mill itself. It hit her then, the were growing plenty within the slowly enlarging fields that they’d been taking their wood from. It wasn’t long before Star Grove was making flour for bread, grinding up whatever they could stick into the mill. After some time, just the one milling spot was too little, and things needed to be adjusted. The building was enlarged, a couple of rather intelligent pae making the wheel outside of the building work for more than just one grinder. Several smaller grinders made of heavy stone were brought in, prompting more pae to stop and stay while they were helping out. And that was it. Starry decided to make things permanent. Pae would be able to stay as full time residents and help with anything they may be able to do on their own.

    • Influence: The Oompa Loompas

    • Architecture: The buildings are mostly huts built into the trees. There are several buildings on ground level, but they contain little to no important items simply because of flooding in the wet seasons and when the cranberries are to be harvested.

    • Government: Starry is the go to when all else fails. She will dictate out who needs to handle what things. Mostly, she just lets things go to the best judgement of the residents. Having based her village around love, acceptance, and tolerance, she does expect her residents to behave kindly to one another without much conflict. The backup system for resolving an issue would be to contact Dameon, followed by Tristen. In the event none of them can be contacted, Junior, Cressida, or any other adult pae that isn’t involved in the situation should be brought in in an attempt to resolve things peacefully.

    • Detainment: There’s a structure built around one of the sturdiest trees in the village. Rather than being made of whatever dried out vegetation the siding of the houses is made of, this is made of wood and hardened mud. There are small windows around the top to allow light in and a reinforced door with a nice thick branch to keep it in place.

    • Law Enforcement: Each adult citizen takes a turn at sentry, really only to keep an eye out for any potential visitors. There are a couple of full time peacekeepers however, in the incident someone has beef with someone else.

    • Entertainment: Eat, Drink, Be Merry! Parties are thrown, though infrequently, for just about any reason. When a party isn’t being thrown, they are close enough to the river to go for a swim, or fish even. There is some wild game in the area to be caught for the crafty hunter, but the catch should be shared amongst the village, not just kept to oneself. All for one and one for all!

    • Education: For the young, or even the more mature who wish to repeat lessons or even learn whatever new things are coming out, a lesson is offered in the later parts of the day, where it’s hotter and more uncomfortable to work. Reading and writing is a common thing. Books, while hard to come by these days, are treasured but also openly shared amongst the villagers. For any villagers looking for more education and more than what can be taught by the village, residents are encouraged to travel to Sparks Hollow, for higher education, or education in general.

    • Health Care: As of this moment, there is a small group of Avalon Healing Fairies who tend to what they can, when they feel the desire to do so.

    • Finances: Near the records building, though there’s little use for it, is a storage building. While wealth is shared throughout the village, there is a store of valuables from other villages for the instances of trading for currencies. It’s built similarly to the offender holding building, if only to protect outsiders from entering and stealing anything they may find valuable.

    • Archival System: There is a records building, really, in the same tree as the storage. It’s open at all times to any of the residents, mostly it’s used for recording transactions made with any other pae. Any books not circulating amongst the village would be kept in here. Any and all important documents would be stored inside, at an opposite end from the treasury beneath.

    • Housing: It is strongly encouraged for a pae to build their own home. Tools and materials would be provided, and if a pae is incapable of crafting their living space, a home will be provided for them until one can be built by the residents. In exchange for the free housing, the new residents are expected to carry the collected goods back to the village from their collection points, regardless of if that will be the pae’s permanent job or not. Sort of an initiation to the village.

    • Commonality: A community of balance, based on hard work and integrity. Like minded pae'il will enjoy the fruits of their labor while providing the island with much needed resources.

What kind of Village is it?

    • Cliff Dwelling/mining town. A rough and tumble sort of village that honors family and town pride. If you're here, you're Family. And family gets taken care of and protected. If you do something unwarranted to one of our villagers, you will earn an enemy of the entire town. We are also a town filled with miners. That much says it all.

    Location description

    • Through erosion and hands, part of the cliff here has been worn away to create a large, open face cavern that faces out over the beach to see the rest of the island. Inside of this cavern is where stone buildings have been built for dwellings, storage, and work areas. Depending on the season, this village gets moderate to bright sunlight but usually stays relatively cool due to its location in the cliffside and the fine mist from the nearby waterfall. ( 8.75N, 12.5 W)
    • At the higher cliff sides over the Cha'en Beach, near where the Mereth Falls flows down the side. There is an old carved path from this village to the grassy slope that connects the beach to the Ithyl Forest from when the village was first built for materials to be moved. Now the main way into the village is by flight or by a pulley system that runs down to the beach.
    • It started as the approximate size of three football fields but has lots of room to grow.

    Village Details

Monetary unit: Gold, Silver and Copper coins are the island-wide currency. Animal skins and textile comfort items (i.e. cushions and blankets). Dried and easy to store foods are locally bartered high-value items as they are the best long-term storage foods.
Gems: If you're gonna be in a mountain, you're gonna discover gems. So yeah. We got those.
Religion: There isn't a set religion. You practice your own here. As long as you ain't cavorting about, trying to convert people, you'll be okay. Religious persecutors and promoters are not tolerated.
Agriculture: Dates, Succulents, ferns, herbs(Oregano and Sages), agave and all vegetation that can grow in rocky terrain. Mushroom and various fungi in the caves.

    Labor Force:
Builders- These pae are charged with the upkeep of the current stone buildings, as well as carving out additional room and building any additional buildings as the village grows.
Hunters - While all pae are able to go out and hunt, these pae have made this into their niche in the village. Often time their catches are fowl and small desert creatures. They have either learned to make and repair their own nets and traps or purchase them from other villages.
Farmers- There isn't much farming, but a few pae have taken to carving out just bellow the current cavern hole to create an untouched, sunny spot for small crops. These mostly consist of easy to grow grains , squash, and root vegetables. These farmers import the soils they use. New cavern holes will come as the town fills with people.
Clay Farmers- These pae are the ones that sift and dig through earth and find the raw forms of clay that the Potters will use.
Miners: These fellows dig in the mountain to fetch the pretty stuff like silver, gold, bronze, copper, granite, and other precious stones. These stones are used to make jewelry or for monetary/ trade with other towns.
Potters- These are the Pae that have studied and are near if not full masters of clay work. They are frequently found in their studios. These individuals have their own kilns and are allowed to have apprentices working for them.
Apprentice- Age doesn't matter, but this is a pae who has decided to study under the teachings of one of the Labor Force classes. It is up to the Teacher to decide when the apprenticeship is completed, and they may prematurely end an apprenticeship for whatever reason if they chose. The apprentice will not be accepted as a ready Labor Force unless their teacher decides they are ready. On occasion, there can be apprentices from other villages, and this village may seek apprenticeships in other villages as well.
Security: Now, with all the mining and making stuff, sometimes tempers flare or shady people show up trying to take what's ours. . That's what security is for. They are the medians, the police, and the safety inspectors. They keep the public protected and make sure that people don't endanger themselves or others while at work. Brains are not required, but an ability to follow and enforce rules will be required for this class of people. Must also be unbiased and unbribable.

Industry: Basic clay wears, such as plates, bowls, and pots. Silk, and threads, which are white and undyed. And Gems. All variations of diamonds, amethyst, ruby, sapphire, and other precious metals and stone (silver, gold, copper, bronze, agate, jasper, quartz, etc. In all their varieties)
Natural Resources: There are rich deposits of clay on the beach where the Mereth Falls runs into a river. Of course, there is easy access to fresh, clean water through the Mereth Falls. Fish are abundant from the river. Minerals and ore.
Exports: Dates and date products, clay wares, mostly basic bowls, pots, and plates. Some of the more advanced clay masters can create more intricate and decorative wares. These wares vary in size from small to large to fit all sorts of needs. Gems and precious metals and stones, (both melted and uncut)
Imports: Most grain and agricultural foods that can't be grown in the upper farms, wax and oil for burning, luxury items, healing salves/ tobacco, tools, animals and their grains (goats, alpacas, and donkeys) chickens and/or eggs.
Major Trading Partners: Sparks Hollow, Telrunya City, Kurt's Ranch, Kekomura, Breeheart Village, Zamarad and Knowe Hills (still looking to expand)
Communication: The main source of communication is during trade. It is up to the trader to probe for information. Also, pen and paper, as messages are run throughout the mines/village itself by the smaller children since no one should be left in a cave unattended. Idle hands are Strafe's tools. Letters are sent and received from other towns and leaders.
For any emergency, the fastest/strongest Pae will be sent out with messages to the closest villages or City. Melons/Fairies are also a fabulous means of traveling messages, at the user's own risk.
Broadcast: Since this is a hard place to live, nightly bonfires are a must. As it reinforces the familial concept and encourages the villagers to look out for one another. A daily event rundown and share time will happen after food is served.
Transportation: There is a pulley system that allows for heavy objects to be brought up or down the cliff face. The Potters are in charge of their own transportation of their goods, but usually will only bring what can be carried and will borrow or rent a table from the village they're visiting. Pae can also consider contacting Kurt's Ranch for some friendly, hard-working alpaca, or domesticating some sturdy Mountain Goat.
History: Shizzle came upon the town by chance, and upon finding nobody there, he quickly declared it as his own and appointed Mythuzel as the high official. Finding the records keeper, he renamed the town and also declared that he shall go forth and find villagers. A mission he continues to today.
Influence: The Anasazi are the main influence for creating this particular dwelling, and the buildings are based on what is found in the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. There is also middle-eastern influences with the dates and date products.
Architecture: Very basic, stone/brick buildings. There is wood throughout the caves, and wooden furniture, thanks to the forest being so close, but also many stone features and accessories to life.
Government: Mythuzel is the head official and believes in diplomacy. A person from each group is elected to speak before the group and monthly meetings are held around the bonfire to air grievances and bring up problems to seek a communal decision.

Also, there is security, which follows the laws of safety, and other such rules that have been elected and passed as law.
Detainment: It is a deep pit with a boulder on top. Dark, silent, and cramped. This is reserved for someone who puts the entire village at intentional risk. It has never been used, and no one looks forward to the day where it will be. Should more be needed, they will be built.
Law Enforcement: There are Security Members, who keep the peace. Anything else is brought up amongst the months Bon Fire meetings before the leaders. Anything severe, (murder/non-consensual abuse/major thievery) is investigated and dealt with severely/death. So try not to be a murder butt.
Entertainment: For the most part, entertainment is either self-made games or storytelling. A pae is always welcome to go and learn the basics of any craft, and learning to read is highly encouraged. The bonfires every night are entertaining. Every third Saturday, a dance is held and potential partners can have a more relaxed setting in which to get to know their dates or people in general. Every 2nd Saturday, the leader's BonFire is held, to which all are welcome to observe. More to come, but we're kinda boring to right now.
Education: Aside from apprenticeships, which can be done at an adult's leisure, education falls on the shoulders of the parents. There are some things that must be taught, like expected behavior and reading and writing, but most teachings are left up to the parents. Any pae that comes into the village will be encouraged to learn the written language if they do not know it already. Also, the rules of behavior and simple etiquette are required. Can't have heathens running the mines and caves.
Health Care: There are currently no healers present in this village, but one would be very much wanted. At the moment, Shizzle is on a search for one. Feel free to apply.
Finances: There is a bank for residents to store their money securely. Shizzle takes daily account information and gives it to Shaeloh to log in to the village archives. Pae can pay a nominal fee to securely store personal possessions as well. Non-residents pay a small percentage to store their mone/goods. The bank is not accessible by any other pae.
Archival System: Shaeloh has taken on this responsibility. He can be found in the outskirts of the town with two buildings: one is his personal home, and one is the records building.
Housing: Housing is on a need-to-build basis, but it is a community effort. While families are given their own homes, Pae that are single are given housemates. Each Pae has their own private room in their house and a communal living room and kitchen area, and each house can hold up to 3 adult Pae. For any Pae that come and there is no available housing, room will be made in another dwelling until a home may be built.
Commonality: This is a village that believes strongly in learning as a unity and innovation. Trying new things is always welcome, and all of the villagers are encouraged to continue learning even in areas of expertise. Innovation is a significant part of learning, as it helps pae move past what history has taught and into how to apply new knowledge and ideas to move the village forward. This is a home for inventors, tinkerers, and engineers. The more you understand, the less you actually know.

    Village Name: Sunrise Terrace
    Founding Members: Trager

What kind of Village is it?
    • Primarily a fishing and rice-farming village
    • Some 'underground' aspects to it
    • In this village all are accepted into a 'family'. This is a community strongly driven by sharing and acceptance.

      Location description
    • There are many huts formed in a circular pattern around the village center. The village center is a large clear space with a bonfire in the middle. There is a path that leads down to the docks below the village and a path that leads East to the terraced farmlands.
    • 22.5 N, 9.5 W
    • Grassy terrain with some sand, on a shallow incline.

      Village Details
    • Monetary unit: fish and rice
    • Religion: freedom to believe what they want
    • Agriculture: Because of the land's incline, it has been terraced for farming rice and variety of vegetables
    • Labor Force: All villagers are expected to contribute to the community in some way. Possible Roles: Farming, Fishing, Construction Labor, Production, Trader, Sentries, Educators
    • Industry: Baskets and similar type products are woven from palm fronds, fishing, boating, terraced farms for rice and other vegetables, glass is created from the sand struck by lightning, but due to the difficult nature of creating it, this is rarer and more valuable commodity
    • Natural Resources: fish, farming
    • Exports: fish, rice, vegetables, shellfish, pearls, shells, baskets, glass
    • Imports: All textiles, tools, anything required to build other than lumber, livestock
    • Major Trading Partners: Spark’s Hollow, Lemon Orchard, Breeheart, Zamarad, Montagne, Kekomura, Starry Grove, Koehaira

    • Communication: Communication with other villages and capitals will be done through envoys appropriate to that specific place. Any written word is in the common language, but most communication is done orally for a personal touch.
    • Broadcast: During the communal shared dinner/fireside important announcements are made
    • Transportation: There are a few, simple, hand-pulled carts to carry goods from one location to the next. There are also a few boats that are used to go out to the ocean and fish.

    • History: Trager had moved near this location when her sons were young so that they could be close to the water. Later, she relocated further up the shore and her son Dysmas also built his home nearby. Trager, despite being an angel, has always had close connections to the faun and naiad, starting with her adopted daughter who was a faun. With tensions escalating for some time now, Trager began to fear for her family and other pae that were like her family. Trager decided to do something about her fears and create a place where families like hers would be safe.

    • Influence: Tribal type cultures mostly, slightly primitive, but heading towards a more advanced culture.

    • Architecture: Simple bungalow style huts, they are small but provide pae with their own space. Many of the newer huts are built with secret compartments and places to hide fugitives

    • Government: As of now, Trager runs the village and runs it as a mother running a household, as the village grows she will eventually choose members to form her council that will make decisions for the village together. The council building is located in the center of the village behind the community fire pit.
      Council:
      -Mnemo- Patron Deity
      -Dysmas- 2nd in Command
      -Farmer Representative:
      -Fishermen Representative: Theron
      -Trade/Commerce Representative:
      -Shaman:

      • Detainment: There is no detainment, if there is someone that acts out against the good of the village they will likely be cast out
      • Law Enforcement: There are sentries on edges of the village, they serve as a ‘welcoming committee’ but are also looking out for any that would want to cause harm to the residents of the village. There are also sentries guarding the resource buildings.

    • Entertainment: Every night there is a bonfire for the meal, after the meal there is singing and dancing and storytelling until the fire dies out.
    • Education: Young pae are taught basic things like first aid, survival, and swimming from specific pae. As they become older, they might choose a specialty and begin to learn basic skills for things like fishing, farming, boating, and construction. Older pae that come to the village and are unskilled might be given apprenticeships with more experienced pae.
    • Health Care: Most pae are equipped with the knowledge to deal with minor illnesses and injuries, at this time there is not a specific healer for bigger issues.

    • Finances: There is no bank, all possessions are shared among the community with each getting their fair share. There is a seperate hut for community resources where residents are free to take what they need. Money received from other villages is kept in the trading hut with other items reserved for trade, the money and trade items are heavily documented within a registry. Both huts are guarded by sentries.

    • Archival System: The main place for village business is in the center of the village where the bonfire is located. While this village is mostly oral, the shaman will record council meetings and stories told at the communal bonfires. These records are kept in the council building.

    • Housing: Houses are provided for those who need it, this is a very communal village, sharing all that they have.

    • Commonality: Outcasts: Angels, demons, and fae with ties to elemental pae. Naiad and faun with strong ties to blood pae. Hybrids that don't belong to either world. A close-knit community of farmers and fishermen. They ensure everyone always has enough to eat.

Patron Deity: Mnemo, Demi-god of little fishes

Founding Members: Shahrazad, Lazuryt, and their family

What kind of Village is it?
    • A merchant village - "If you're willing to pay for it, you can probably find it here."

      Location description
    • Appearance: While very much still in development, the groundwork for the village has largely been laid out. The main entrance lies to the south, where those entering the village are greeted by a stone arch (inspired by that of Agauni) to enter into the walled village. Following this stone path forward will take them to the center of the town, where they will find the Market Plaza and most state-run businesses. There are four additional entrances along the village's perimeter - one to the west which opens to a maintained dirt trail to the algae farms, one directly east which leads to an improved trail and connects the continental trade route, one to the northeast which leads to a maintained trail to the fishing docks and shellfish farms, and one directly north which opens up for the trading port ( see "Transportation" ). In general, the village is rapidly expanding with active involvement from village leadership.
        Notable Landmarks:
      • Main Government Building
      • Temple of Celebrations & the Golden Fish Orphanage
      • Bank of Zamarad
      • Library and Archives
      • Public Bathhouse
      • Fauny Express HQ (No association with actual faun present or past - TBD)
      • Market Plaza
      • Trading Docks
      • Fishing Docks

    • Geography: (15.5 N, 13.125 W) Located at the westernmost peninsula of Pae'kippu Beach, Zamarad is bordered by the Tuatha'ri Lake to the northeast, Waplei Delta to the northwest, and the Waplei March to the south. Further north and west of the Delta lies the Loka Nei Jungle and Forest, respectively, while continuing on the northern split of the Delta leads to the Chai'en Ravine.

The primary soil type of Zamarad is heavy mineral sand, owing to long-past volcanic influences from the Dragnid and larger materials from upstream deposit along the delta's shore. The water table is shallow, as is the closest impermeable, clay-heavy soil layer, which provides a solid building foundation for larger structures.

    • Approximate Size: Zamarad is an actively, and rapidly, expanding town. At present, the reach of Zamarad does not extend fully to the southern bridge, nor fully across the Delta. These two structures are considered to be of the highest strategic importance for commerce and defense.

      Village Details
    • Monetary unit: Predominantly coin, though parties may choose to barter if they wish

    • Religion: There is no village-wide religion, nor is religious discrimination during commerce tolerated. They will not prosecute zealots acting as such so long as this behavior is displayed outside of business transactions - however, such actions may lead to said individual becoming ostracized from the community. Those of a particular faith are welcome to establish a place of worship (e.g. a church), provided they go through the regular channels to acquire a building permit. With the exception of those related to the Patron Deity and her bloodline, places of worship are not exempt from business taxes and do not supersede other village authority.
        Current places of worship:
      • Cathedral of the Guardians
      • Temple of Celebrations
      • Thunderbird something-or-other

    • Agriculture: Primary food production is not a dominant industry, and most foodstuff found in Zamarad is likely imported from trading partners. However, there is access to algal and shellfish farms along the lakefront, along with regular fishing opportunities

    • Labor Force:
The service-industry dominates the job market, with positions open in the sectors including, but not limited to: commerce, trade, finance, hospitality, postal service and logistics (to come), and secondary food production. Algal and shellfish farmers supply a local source of food, and craftsmen are encouraged to supply their specialties.

Children and the young are expected to attend schooling focused around basic knowledge and life skills. Failure to do so will not result in corporal punishment, but families encouraging absenteeism will experience a high degree of social ostracism as a consequence.

Teenagers may choose to either take an apprenticeship with a local business firm or to continue with their studies either here or at an allied village (e.g. Sparks Hallow). Failure to do so will be treated as absenteeism.

Adults are expected to contribute meaningfully to society. While discrimination based on one's trade is discouraged, it is not altogether absent and is not actively prosecuted against. Willful vagrancy is strongly looked down upon and will result in said pae being removed from, and barred from reentering, Zamarad.

    • Industry:
Facilitating trade, first and foremost, via shop outposts of trading firms and producers - if you acquire a building permit and pay your applicable business taxes, just about any venture can be started here. Secondary industries to support this focus include inns, restaurants, stables, brothels, cart/ship repairs, and architectural firms.
        IPC businesses:
      • Warm Thoughts Gift Shop
      • Waplei Inn
      • Bar Amelie
      • See "Major Trading Partners" for IPC Trading Outposts.

Headquarters of the Fauny Express postal network and shipping firm (TBD) and a network of banks managed by Zamarad ( see "Finances" ).

Industry unique to Zamarad includes clay wares of both the decorative and practical variety, algae and shellfish farming, and fishing. They are known for their fermented and smoked foods, unique culinary fusions, and textiles. Budding industry includes the production of recreational draughts and silk. These have yet to be scaled up for mass production and export.

Given Zamarad's location and history, there is potential for it to become a center of knowledge regarding the study of Taint and Rakshasha Culture.

    • Natural Resources: Fresh water, algae, shellfish (e.g. mussels, clams, crabs), and fine sand from Tuatha'ri Lake shoreline. There are clay deposits in the Lake's inundated soils. The nearby Waplei Delta and Marsh has fertile loams, rich in nutrients and humus, and additional access to unique wildlife and vegetation.... should one have the means of withstanding the ambient Taint.

    • Exports: Algae, clay, pottery and ceramics, shellfish and seafood (generally dried or cured for preservation) are locally-produced items exported to the rest of the island. Products from any of the city's trading partners, along with small-batch foods and textiles intended for local consumption, are likely to be found in Zamarad's markets as well.

    • Imports: Raw materials (e.g. wood, foodstuffs, alcohol), crafting materials (e.g. thread, cloth, glazes), medical supplies ( see "Health Care" ), luxury goods

    • Major Trading Partners: Alu Spring, Apple Farm, Breeheart, Kekomura, Koehaira, Kurt's Ranch, Montagne, Sparks Hollow, StarGrove, Knowe Hills
        Trading Outposts:
      • Breeheart - Breeheart Café (Name TBD) | the storefront is split between a combination specialty shop and café where pae may choose to sit down for a bite to eat or buy the village's items for later. more details
      • Kekomura - Tonics and Curatives | details
      • Koehaira - Wine Outlet (Name TBD) | details
      • Sparks Hollow - Sparks Candystore (Name TBD) | details

    • Communication: The official written language of Zamarad is Common Script. All businesses are required to have this script clearly presented on posted signage - likewise, it is the language used for all official documents. Failure to adhere to this policy can result in fines, rejected applications, and/or contracts being rendered null and void.

    • Broadcast: There is a daily posting made to the bulletin board located in the central town plaza that details any upcoming/current events of importance for the general populace.

For matters that may be more urgent or niche, information is disseminated on a need-to-know basis via emissaries (government-employed) or gofers (business apprentices).

In the event of an emergency, Zamarad will utilize the network of Fauny Express couriers to quickly and efficiently notify the public.

    • Transportation: The majority of townsfolk move within Zamarad via foot or wing. There has been no attempt made to accommodate naiads due to the lack of interest.

The main roads connecting Zamarad with the rest of Telrunya are wide enough for two large carts to pass each other comfortably. Secondary roads - those that connect two main roads further dividing the city - allow for one-way traffic of large carts. Tertiary roads - which connect two secondary roads - allow up to smaller carts, while the rest are intended for foot traffic only.

Those who intentionally block traffic without a permit may be subject to warnings and, on repeat offences, citations. Permits must be requested far enough in advance to prepare others for reroutes.

Stables are available for rent for those traveling with pack animals.

    • History:
Along the Waplei Delta's confluence, there once flourished the merchant town of Agauni. No one yet knows what happened to Agauni, the cause of its fall... some say that the Guardians sent judgement upon the heretics dwelling there. Perhaps it's true history shall come to light with time.

The current settlement of Zamarad came some time later, the result of a series of coincidences bringing the family of Shahrazad and Lazuryt to the abandoned ruins of Agauni.

    • Influence: Byzantine Empire (cuisine and textiles), Persian Empire with Brutalist and Modernist influences (architecture), Venetian Empire (trade and festivals)

    • Architecture: Public spaces and official buildings predominantly follow the Persian architectural style, while buildings repurposed from Agauni maintain a Butalist style.

There are no defined standards on private structures - so long as a building design draft has been submitted and approved in advance ( see "Housing" ), home- and business-owners are encouraged to experiment.

    • Government: The village government is divided between two branches - Commercial and Societal - and headed by Shahrazad and Lazuryt, respectively. Matters pertaining to business ventures, including but not limited to taxation, trade, building development, and permitting are handled by the Commercial Branch. Matters pertaining to law enforcement, education, social conflicts, and culture are handled by the Societal Branch. There is currently no need for law enforcement, detainment, or defense to have a unique branch, but this may be developed if necessary.

Branch heads hold executive power over their policies, but they welcome commentary from the public in the form of "Open Town Halls." At these seasonal forums, the public may raise awareness on newly-prevalent issues and are encouraged to do so. For more urgent matters that require top-level intervention, pae'il may schedule an appointment with one of the Branch heads through Vanessa and the Office of the Secretary.

      • Detainment: Arrested individuals are held in the two remnant structures left standing in the Agauni ruins. When in use, these buildings are staffed by a guard at all times. Detained pae are provided the minimum requirements of fresh water (approx 2L/day) and food necessary. The structures do not accommodate naiads - should a naiad face detainment, they will be extradited to Alu Spring to serve their sentence.

      • Law Enforcement: Law enforcement agents are considered civil workers and are employed via town funds. Relevant professions (at present) include building security, sentries, escorts, and auditors. They are responsible for maintaining public safety - via boarder checks and town vigilance - and investigating breaches thereof. They currently report to the Societal Branch. Should a resident or a private business wish to employ their services, they must speak with Lazuryt directly.

    • Entertainment: Taverns and other private spaces are available for residents to use for leisure activities, subject to age-restrictions if necessary. There are no public parks currently developed, but they could be if there was sufficient interest. The nearby Pae'kippu Beach's shore offers water leisure opportunities. After-school programs are available for families who need them, and serve as a structured space for play and keeping kids out of trouble.

The town funds a number of public holidays as well, including:

      • Tikicat Pilgrimage (name tbd) - information to come
      • Thalia Festival (name tbd) - inspired by the Venetian Carnivale - more information to come
      • Winter Market (name tbd) - inspired by the German Weihnachtsmarkt - more information to come

Town residents who wish to hold their own festivals are encouraged to do so, but must notify the town far enough in advance to prepare others for potential disruptions. The city will provide additional security should it be requested - everything else must be financed by the organizer(s).

    • Education:
There are daycare centers available for those too young to attend school for families that need tham. Basic life skills are taught here, including speech development, cooperative behavior, manners. Lessons are largely focused around play at this stage.

Children are expected to attend formal schooling focused around furthering basic knowledge and life skills. This includes literacy in Common Script, basic mathematical proficiency (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), social etiquette, and self-sufficiency in sewing and cooking. They may elect to take additional studies in their budding area of interest.

Teenagers may choose to either take an apprenticeship with a local business firm or to continue with their studies either here or at an allied village (e.g. Sparks Hallow). The knowledge they obtain at this point is dependent on which path they choose; one entering into postal services may develop a more advanced knowledge of literature or map-reading, while one entering into trade may develop negotiation skills. Brothels or other "adult-oriented" industries are barred from conducting apprenticeships. Those truly wishing to enter those industries at this age are encouraged to apprentice in tangentially-related fields, such as hospitality, and to use this time to rethink their aspirations.

    • Health Care: There are currently no healers practicing within Zamarad, but they certainly encouraged to move in. For now, a combination of the Avalon healing fairies and common sense help to remediate most minor injuries and illness.

Healing salves and poultices from Kekomura are available for purchase at Tonics and Curatives.

    • Finances:
      • Banking - There is a city-affiliated and -run bank located on the bottom floor of the main government building. There are three divisions - one for currency changers, one for bank accounts (local withdrawals and deposits), and one for commerce guarantors.

Currency changers are able to exchange one form of currency (e.g. gold coin) into another (e.g. silver coin) for a nominal percentage fee.

City residents may open a bank account free of charge and are not subject to additional fees. Non-residents may elect to pay a seasonal fee to maintain an account, to be deducted from their account at the beginning of each season.

What sets apart Zamarad's bank is its guarantor system developed with traveling merchants in mind. For a percentage fee, merchants with an established account can elect to deposit coin into one of the Zamarad trading firms managed in each locality they trade with. They will then be provided a notice of guarantee - either in parchment or stone, client's choice. They may withdraw this coin at another location later, provided they present this notice. For sizable volumes of coin, the bank does ask that the location and approximate time of withdrawal is identified at the time the guarantee is issued to ensure the necessary coinage is available when needed. For exceptionally large volumes, an additional fee may be charged.

Zamarad does not maintain hard coin equal to the accounts it maintains. Should a mass withdrawal occur, it is possible for the bank to fail to meet demand.

      • Taxes & Fees - These serve as the primary method for financing public services (i.e. government services, education, law enforcement, banking).

Imported goods are taxed at a percentage of product - this percentage differs depending on the merchant's town affiliation and the trade agreements in place between Zamarad and that town. An official seal is required to demonstrate a town affiliation, and town sentries maintain a record book of this information. Barring exceptional circumstances, a merchant cannot hold two affiliations at one time. Merchant may either choose to pay this tax in product or an equal coin value, to be paid at time of entry. Commonly-traded items have their taxed value displayed clearly at the point of entry - for more unique items, they will send for a neutral party with that specialty to evaluate the taxed value. The value of the tax does not necessarily reflect the value the good is sold for within the town or elsewhere.

There are no sales taxes on goods and services within city limits. There is a nominal monthly property tax.

    • Archival System: Given the number of permits required to approve various activities within the village, Zamarad has a robust system in place for storing and maintaining records. This system is independently-managed by the Office of the Secretary.

The first floor of the building houses the registrar and serves to produce, notarize, and receive permits and other official materials.

The second floor houses the archive and chained library. While both are available for residents of Zamarad to access free of charge (and non-residents for a fee), they are not freely-accessible. Those wishing to access the second floor must make a request with the on-duty librarian on the first, during which they will state their name, affiliation (if any), and reason for requesting access. This is both to ensure nothing dubious is happening and to ensure the requested materials are actually available. If approved, they will fill out a sign-in sheet and be led to the back staircase. Only authorized staff may be left alone from this point - guests will be accompanied by two staff members at all times. Reading materials do not leave the room, nor is food or drink allowed.

If a requested book is not in the library system, residents may have it purchased using public funds to add to the library's collection. They will be notified once it is available. Zamarad does not necessarily endorse the opinions shared in its book collection.

    • Housing: While Zamarad does not generally have defined zoning in the city, it offers recommendations to ensure neighbor diversity while maintaining its sense of identity.
      • Orphanage - Funded by city taxes and individual philanthropy, the orphanage is available for children without caretakers until they come of age and are capable of self-sufficiency.
      • Guilds - Not currently present, but will receive additional guidance if necessary.
      • Mixed-Use Development - Buildings are HIGHLY encouraged to serve both commercial and residential needs in the form of ground level business and accommodations above.
      • Market Plaza - Buildings adjacent to the Market Plaza are the exception; they are explicitly reserved for full commercial use.
      • Stables - Another exception, stables may only be constructed on the outer reaches of town and away from open water sources. For this reason, most inns or single-family housing units are located a considerable distance away from the town center.
      • Camping - Not permitted within town limits. Travelling merchants wishing to do so are free to find a spot in the area surrounding the town. There is potential to develop a commercially-run campsite, should a pae wish to do so

Before a building is constructed (or has additional construction performed on it), it must have a design draft submitted to the Commercial Branch for approval. Once the design has been approved, the to-be building owner is to hold an open forum with the neighborhood to hear any potential concerns they may have. If this forum results in design changes, an addended design draft is to be submitted and approved. Construction may begin at this stage.

Pae capable of creating their own design documents and construction are free to do so. For those who cannot do this for whatever reason but wish to have a building built, they are encouraged to work with a local architect and/or construction firm.

Due to the low volume of sales, building resale is handled by the Office of the Secretary. Rentals are handled by building owners and not currently subject to village-mandated regulation.

    • Commonality: A community created to enhance and facilitate making money and having the means to a comfortable lifestyle. It has grown to include like-minded individuals who also desire wealth. They also serve as the headquarters for the Fauny Express.

(still polishing this up, be gentle wink <3)

    Village Name: Partayzia
Founding Members: Coral Flash (Seafauny, male, Berri) & Fairy Lights (Fauny, female, Fea)

What kind of Village is it?
    • Vacation Spot/Attraction

      Location description
    • In the central hub is the entertainment portion of the village (the hotel, the bars, the gaming halls, etc.) and surrounding that is the residential area. Beyond the residentials are the farms up on the cliff in the bit of forestlands on their property, the distilleries, and the fruit farms. Most residences are duplex/quadplex/etc. It's mostly a place to come, relax, have fun, where no one is going to judge you.

    • Centered around 5.25W by 20.5N, the village spans up the cliff part way, along the beach and in the surrounding corals/ocean.

    • LARGE. It spreads across a good chunk of the western beach and the surrounding shore/waters. Village is the size of a medium to large town. It employs approximately 50-100 Pae'il, excluding traveling merchants and performers. Not all of the businesses/residences are visible as some are built underwater to accommodate naiad, sprites, seafaunies, etc.

      Village Details
    • Monetary unit
The locals use a bartering system, but they will accept currency from visitors/guests in order to buy things from other villages that they may need. With the introduction of the Guild, they are also now 'renting' a blacksmith specializing in coin to offer/accept as well.

    • Religion
Whatever floats your boat! While many of the inhabitants believe in the Guardians, there is no one religion in the village and everyone is free to believe of their own choice.

    • Agriculture
Coconuts, Bananas, Pomegranates, Mangos, Kiwi, Salmon, Trout, Tilapia, Seabass, Sardines, Flounder, Squid, Crab, Bream, Tuna, Anchovy, Halibut, Cod, Shrimp, sea urchins (depending on seasonal availability)

    • Labor Force
Villagers must maintain a steady job to help the entire village run smoothly. There are consequences for those who do not.
Jobs include distillers, farmers, fishers, bartenders, hosts, organizers, guards, decorators, doctors, weavers, construction and 'retail'.

    • Industry
      Vacation/Attraction, Liquor

    • Natural Resources
Coconut trees, banana trees, palm trees, fish

    • Exports
      Fruits, pearls/shells, native flowers, liquor

    • Imports
Fabric, glass/pottery dishes etc, baskets, meat other than fish, decorations they can't make themselves, spices, baked goods, fur

    • Major Trading Partners
      Tree, City, Water Palace

    • Communication
Most of the villagers know both earth runes and water glyphs and use those to communicate. The higher ups and the pae who deal with trading with other villages know at least enough to get by in the languages they deal with most, and everyone is fluent in the most common language.

    • Broadcast
There is a PA system for more immediate news, but generally they get news spread by word of mouth, flyers, banners.

    • Transportation
They walk! Or swim, depending. Carts are used to carry trade in the village as well as to nearby trading posts. Small boats/floating carts are used in the water. For longer trips, say to the other side of Telrunya, they use boats and carriage carts.

    • History
The founding Pae were originally managing their own neighboring villages who were trying to do similar vacation/resort villages because of the views and natural resources the surrounding area offers. Each village had been trying to 'steal' competition from each other by trying to advertise the 'next best thing' or 'newest attraction' only to be met with headache and monetary loss.

Eventually it became too much for them to keep their borders and ideals separate. Each side slowly began to notice how visiting pae desired to see a bit of both and why they couldn't just visit both. Agreeing to speak on the matter and reach some kind of compromise, Fairy Lights and Coral Flash agreed to work together as one combined village, joining the land and sea into one muilti-piered village to accommodate all.

While some aspects are still works in progress, each side has learned valuable lessons from each other and work with the good and bad to keep their new joint lives not only functioning, but 100% accessible to all and pleasurable as well.

    • Influence
Las Vegas, Nevada. Venus' parties were also used as inspiration but the parties and the atmosphere in Partayzia have a more general feel to them and are not used to worship deities.

    • Architecture
Typical beach style. There's huts and bungalows on land and underwater houses. There are also a couple taller hotels but most buildings meant for vacationers are no more than two stories. There are a few 'shacks' and beach cabins floating in the water as well.

    • Government
Fairy Lights and Coral Flash. They each manage their own side of the village with at least two other assistants. They meet at least once a week to discuss what's going on or what problems they've been having, etc.
      • Detainment
There are holding cells and drunk tanks. Most of the crime is petty theft, public drunkenness, disrespectfulness to staff/owners/etc. Outward displays of violence/racism are not tolerated and can get Pae banned from the village.

      • Law Enforcement
There are guards and sentries posted all over the village. They prefer to keep the peace but are trained in theory on what to do in extreme situations.

    • Entertainment
The whole village is entertainment. There are bars and game halls, a small marketplace for shopping. There's a community theatre for those who enjoy putting on shows for others. They also offer Cliff Diving, Underwater Tours, small local fishing tournaments, card/dice games, small gambling and amazing views! There may also be a few Adult Only Entertainment bars only open at night and access to these clubs WILL be HEAVILY restricted/enforced/monitored.

    • Education
Kids get the same basics that most kids all over Telrunya get but as they get older and start to lean toward certain aspects of village life they get a more specific education. Teens are able to "intern" in the kinds of businesses they're interested in most to see which ones are more to their liking.

    • Health Care
They have a small group of Avalon healing fairies as well as a few resident healers who can specialize. There's a small clinic/sick bay.

    • Finances
There isn't really a bank system as the locals work in barter. Pae are welcome to offer what they have and as long as it's deemed a fair trade by both parties then anything goes.

    • Archival System
They have a central hub where villagers can come and have their earnings/harvests/etc recorded. There's also a big news bulletin board type thing inside the building and there's 3 or 4 Pae that work behind the desk to take care of and keep track of things.

    • Housing
As this place is meant more as a resort, Pae don't usually come to move in. However, those who decide they'd like to stay are asked to choose a business to help out in and they stay with a local family until they've mastered the job they chose. They are then given a basic house that they can then expand upon if they wish.
