The ships had arrived at Big Island several hours earlier, pulling into what was apparently a valued commodity amongst the Southern Islands - a covered cavern harbour - and were greeted with appropriate celebration and welcome. Two of the three ambassadors had returned, the last being too ill to be put on the ship when they had departed, and were greeted with delight. The land was probably greeted with even more delight by dragons and riders, as their beasts had had to swap about remaining in flight or resting onboard for a sevenday and a half, and were subsequently rather run down in many cases. It had not been a good crossing, and the inexperienced may have been more then a little freaked out by a small storm which had blown up during it.

There was a form of feast being thrown, not dissimilar to the relatively recent celebrations at the Hold: men hurried about, with women digging pits for them to roast porcines in which had been hastily slaughtered, and preparing exotic goods like blood sausage and headcheese (though the latter would not be edible for another day or so, it was disgusting to waste such valuable goods). Alcohol had been produced, the beer and fruit wine flowing freely, and despite the short notice the island seemed to be doing its best to welcome the crew of the three ships. The scantily clad ladies of the islands seemed to be extremely interested in the influx of sailors, and it was distinctly unusual for any of the male riders who had been brought to not be surrounded by a little knot of women at all times - who even if they didn’t share a language seemed delighted to thrust tidbits upon them and chatter amongst themselves. Firelizards thrum through the gathering: they seem to be everywhere in these islands, and it's rare to see a person without one on them at some point during the party.

The Council Heads had talked to the returning ambassadors before greeting the Riders and Captains of the ships, using the ambassadors as make-shift translators. They had greeted them and welcomed them to the Island, before intimating that first they would eat and recover from the journey - and then they would talk politics.

Maahuta presented all PCs - along with the ships' captains and first mates - with firelizard eggs as welcoming gifts! Judging by the rest of the welcome you have received, and the prevalence of firelizards accompanying islanders, this is probably a rather nice but not actually extravagant gift by their standards.

By default these are 'mediumish firelizard eggs' as described in the marks] shop but if you would like a larger egg, a twin egg, or an odd egg you may pay the difference in marks if you so wish, but you can't upgrade to a gold. Whether you want upgrade or not please post in the marks shop within the next two weeks to claim your egg, linking back to this thread. We will then roll dice as normal to determine what colour flitts everyone receives. They will hatch within a month IC, and do not count towards your maximum number of firelizards/character.

[ how this works ]

Every so often during this event, we’re going to post an update on events. You write us a quick summary of your character’s attempts to interact with NPCs and what they do, and we’ll throw you back what information and reactions they’ve got in return! This may change depending on who is doing the interacting, and don't forget that your fellow players are there too and would love to play!

So for example:

Course of action - M'ere attempts to flirt with the lady who's been hanging around her. Though they don't share much of a common language, it's easy enough to smile and draw pictures in the dust and laugh at the high ranking folk.

Result - She and the lady are getting on extremely well - she learns that her name is Zereil, and that she appears to be some sort of warrior or soldier. It isn't really clear, but she is making a big show of her muscles. She has a lot of muscles.

This meta is projected to go on for two weeks max.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 12, 2015 2:00 pm

M’ere had determinedly dolled herself up, a touch of scarlet on her lips and her beautiful rich northern dress making her feel as though she was worth a hundred thousand marks… albeit this was a little hotter then she was used to. She was under the impression that it got even warmer further south, but this was quite warm enough for her.

Though she was busy making nice, the little greenrider was keeping an eye on the younger members of the expedition, who she was more concerned about then anything else. It wasn’t like she knew what she was doing either, but she knew more then they did (presumably). The stuff that tasted like wine - maybe made from oranges? - was exceptionally good, though she was doing her best not to drink too much. She fully expected something to go wrong, and she wanted to be as sober as possible.

…it really, really saddened her to think that she was the responsible one.

Nevertheless, the beach was utterly magnificent, and the food was good, and the women were very pretty - and seemed to outnumber the men almost ten to one! Not that she was objecting, but that was kind of weird. She held the cup lightly, weaving her way through the chattering, dancing, happy throng to see what had become of her companions.

Ra'fe had done his best with straightening himself out and choose clothing that he would be comfortable in but still look appropriate in. Though his simple black and white clothing and out of sight weaponry, he left his sword in Banneth's side
bags and kept his knives and dirk, he was certainly attracting attention even outside the main throng of gatherers.

Bailey had curled up around his neck, the bronze a solid weight and Ra'fe idly stroke along the flits head as he attempted to converse with the women that were currently with him. A lot of women in so much more then he was use to and he was rather sure he was flushed. They weren't wearing all that much.

Di'no wasn't dressed to the nines like some of the other riders. He hadn't any intention on making himself stand out with flamboyant displays but that plan had backfired the moment they set foot on shore. Despite his rather plain, if clean, attire he found himself always at the mercy of a handful of women all attempting to gain his attention in some way.

Aioth was amused. Di'no was not. Once again he found himself thrust into a world and culture just similar enough to taste familiar while being drastically different from what he was used to. Maybe some of the others found the islanders favors flattering but Di'no was hard pressed to maintain a bubble of personal space around him. Let alone maintain his composure in the face of the... breezy attire of the islanders.

Aioth was already enjoying the islands comforts. That is, she was sprawled out on the warm beach letting tired and cramped muscles melt in the hot sunlight. Her hide was in need of a wash and oiling but she hadn't the energy to go through with a full bath just yet. It could wait till the initial celebrations died down and Di'no was able to come and scrub the salt from her skin.

A woman has brought Ra’fe a dish of roasted pork, and appears to be rather insistent on flirtatiously feeding it to him. She’s in her early twenties, and is decorated in enough jewellery to sink a ship. A metal knife is strung on a cord around her hips, and it flashes in the light of the fires. From the way the other women around her act - or at least, back off - she seems to hold some sort of high status. His weapons seem to be a matter of particular curiosity.

Di’no is the centre of a knot of fascinated teenage girls, though the numbers of them seem to shrink as time goes on… and are some of them accompanied by their mothers? There are certainly some middle aged women and men who seem interested in him, though not interested enough to actually talk to him. One of the girls brings him a drink of some strong beer-like liquid, and another seems to remember her manners, bringing him a dish of meats.

V'den and Suuyeth

The crossing had been rough even on the indefatigable tiny blue, but tired and sea-weary or not, it was impossible to keep Suuyeth away from a party. Even V'den was willing to relax after the stress of the journey, and she approached the big welcome party with far less trepidation than she normally would have. The exotic smells and people and clothing did help ease her.

Still, V'den wouldn't have been there if Suuyeth hadn't decided he wanted to join. He begged, and she – having a soft spot for spoiling her dragon (and then complaining,) seeing no issue with his presence, and kind of wanting an excuse to join the festivities, let him.

he squealed, He chirped a telepathic hello to the firelizards around him and purred happily.

V'den wasn't too sure how she felt about the abundance of miniature protodragons, but she had to admit. It was pretty.

The gleam of the knife caught his attention, it was the first bit of actual metal he had seen, but also the amount of jewelry made him place his newest host as a very important person. The others backing away also seemed a rather big clue.

Ra'fe introduced himself, and let her feed him a few pieces before questioning and gesturing to her knife and asked to see it. Weaponry had always been a passion of his and something he thinks he can manage to talk about... maybe.

Suuyeth is positively swarmed by firelizards - and then by children, who though they maintain a respectful distance at first, begin to crowd in a little closer as he fails to do anything terrifying or particularly dangerous looking. One particularly bold child - gender impossible to tell - makes a break from the crowd, reaching out to to touch his hide.

M’ere pops up by V’den’s side with a rustle of long skirts and a bright smile. “Everything going okay?”

The woman points to herself, introducing herself as Natia. She hesitates for a moment, guessing at his meaning, before untying the knot around her hips and allowing him to see the blade. It is a rather pretty thing: a double-edged blade that widened towards the hilt, with a curved wooden handle, quite unlike anything Ra’fe will have seen in the north. The handle is worn, and it has clearly been well-loved and well-used.

"Thank you." The blade was different, wider at the hilt and the handle was curved, wood, and polished smooth with use. Ra'fe tested his blade against his thumb nail, nodding at the sharpness and handed it back. "Is it a family blade?" He questioned and drew out the one out of his shirt sleeve, the blade was short, single edge, dark well tended leather up the hilt and small chips of sugilite gleamed. "My uncle was master blade smith, very skilled."

He offered it to Natia in-case she wished to look it over.

They'd arrived and V'via was away. Ink pot and quill at the ready the young rider is enthusiastically scribbling down everything she can observe. The sheer number of firelizards has made the recording impossible, but it is clear that the creatures are far more commonplace here than back in the North. Several theories have already been jotted down; temperature, diet, living status. Any number of things could be the cause. Her own egg has been carefully inspected, the egg larger than Smith's had been. Eggs of similar and even larger size had been given to every rider and some of the crew. That was over a dozen eggs. That was a fortune that had just been casually given away. This culture clearly had different ideas of worth.

Smith on shoulder the woman attempted to slip away from the main group, she hoped to get some undisturbed views of the culture. Not really interested in making a sight of herself, she'd done that enough in life, V'via was simply clad. Her rider's jacket had been abandoned in the heat and the woman now sported a loose tunic and rolled up trousers, perched on a rock taking note of the people's attire. Quick sketches of the outfits being made in the books pages. Modesty clearly being less strictly enforced here. Oh, if her mother could see the ladies here.

Horteth was just please to had ground below him again. V'via had suggested he remain away for a little while, just until the locals got used to the dragons. The blue had taken up residence on the closest beach he could, eagerly watching the scene from afar. Until that got boring. In about ten minutes. The dragon had now decided that playing in the shallows was much more fun and he now enjoyed a solo game of over-under with the rolling waves. Hopping and ducking, though he wasn't too good at the under part any more.

Natia takes the knife, having tied the cord back around her hips, and examines it, putting her thumb against the blade and testing it. She seems to understand a great deal less then Ra’fe thinks, but he is smiling. Her hands are calloused as though they’re used to holding some sort of weapon even though her fingers are loaded with glittering rings.

She hands the knife back, templing her fingers and clearly considering something heavily.

Ra'fe takes the blade back, stroking the handle before tucking it back in its place. "I think I'm very bad at this," he muses more to himself then to Natia. He settles by her, taking a small bit of the pork and enjoyed the idly silence for a bit.

"My father was a solider. He made it to Captain," Rafe draws in the sand, drawing a figure then about twenty under the figure, all armed and in file. "Captain," he taps the top and then motions to the mass "Soldiers, they fight for their captain against others." He hummed, drawing more figures, having them clash. "Are you a solider?" Her hands were calloused so perhaps she was?

There certainly were more women then men here.

V'den and Suuyeth

Suuyeth had not been expecting to be mobbed by flits and, while initially startled, he decided to enjoy the attention (his usual response) and spread his wings for extra perches. he said gleefully, he sent some telepathic happiness the flitter's way, feeling completely at home among them.

Yes, V'den could see the swarm of the little beasts. It seemed she would soon be in possession of one of her own. She looked down at the egg she had been given – she'd never really wanted a flitter, but she wasn't going to refuse such a lavish gift. She wasn't rude, after all.

She was surprised when M'ere came over to her – normally, V'den tried to be as inconspicuous as possible with these kinds of things, enjoying at her own pace if she bothered to enjoy at all (other than secretly and vicariously living through her dragon, something she did not even admit to him). “Oh. Yes! Fine...” she looked at the egg in her hands again and, deciding she was just tired enough to be sociable, shook her head. “This is quite a gift.” she commented.

Suuyeth was just formulating a plan to somehow deck himself out with firelizards like how the humans around him decked themselves out with bright cloth, when one of the children got up the courage to touch his hide.

he said, surprised, to himself of course, as he lowered his head to inspect the child. It wasn't far to lower – he was only about twice or three times the child's size. Math was not his strong suit.

Natia laughed, and gestured to the whole settlement, then pounded a hand against her chest. “Captain” She examined the figures more closely, then got to her feet, holding up a finger as if she meant him to wait for a moment, then giving a quick-fire of instructions to a nearby man, who nodded his head and dashed off.

“They seem rich” M’ere said, hands on her hips as she observed the gathering. “…or maybe they’re just not worth as much here. We could make a killing if we could get a whole lot of ‘em back before there’s a glut in the market, and I’ll bet you that’s what every sailor’s thinking right now. Tomorrow, you’ll have a queue of ‘em waiting to beg you for a quick lift between and back, just to see their families, I’ll bet you” She turned back to V’den with a grin. “Men and merchants are always out for the main chance”

The child - who was maybe five or six - extended his hands to Suuyeth, popping them straight on his nose with a cackle of delight.

"Captain Natia," Ra'fe replied, and rose her to the equivalent of a general if it was indeed true that she lead the whole settlement into battle. He watched her, polite and quiet as she spoke to the man who immediately dashed off. "Should we wait till he comes back," he made a motion with his hand of the man returning "Or continue?" He tapped the figures in the sand.
