'Oh I just don't even like you at all!' With a final, high-pitched whinny of fury the grullo colored filly named Alderfly spun and lashed out with her hind quarters. She could tell by the sudden jarring that she manged to land a one-hoof kick to her sibling's hindquarters. Better than nothing! With a baring of short teeth and a warning pin of an ear she then spun away, throwing herself through the brush and fleeing into the woods as fast as her hooves could take her. Anywhere was better than there at the moment. Anywhere but where he was. Butterfly would just have to look after herself for a bit... Or go to mother, mother would sort him out. But not Allie, for now Allie needed to breathe. And the best place to do that was away from him.

Ugh, boys! She hated them! What was so great about being a boy, anyway? And why did he have to be so mean? There was no reason to be mean to Butterfly! That was her sister and Allie loved her sister (didn't always understand her, but that didn't really matter). But him? Allie never understood him! And when he started picking on Butterfly? He deserved it, she hoped that kick really hurt! She wished she'd been able to land both, hooves, but that was a little elusive right now. Maybe she'd go somewhere and practice. Maybe she'd just use his dumb head as a target and hope her aim was better next time.

Mother seemed amused each time they argued… She said they argued so much because they were alike. They were both stubborn and thought they were right which meant each thought the other was wrong. Even when they were in agreement about something, they approached it different ways and wound up fighting. She even named them after similar insects because of it. Personally, Alderfly couldn't see it. didn't see it. How was she like some dumb boy? Her sister she understood. Butterfly wasn't mean like Dobsonfly was. Calling her names and making fun of them!

Still grumbling and snarling, the filly forged her way through the woods. Ears laid flat back to her skull now and head lowered, she charged through shrubs and leapt over felled logs, tearing her way through vines when they blocked her path. She wasn’t even paying attention to where she was going, just knew she wanted to get there as soon as possible.

So when she slid to the stop in the middle of a clearing, Allie had no clue at all where she was. The sudden rustling of the bushes in front of her made her shift nervously, eyes wide and scared.

“Ummmm…” She murmured, mostly to herself.. And then a little braver, a little louder, she added: “Hello?”

Black Rose was alone. Sort of. The black filly with vibrant blue and pink striping was lying on her side staring at the sleeping form of her mother. It seemed like Lycoris was often asleep whenever Rose was feeling particularly active. The clawed filly couldn’t make a guess at why her mother was always so sleepy; it wasn’t like Lycoris lived a particularly draining lifestyle. The end of Rose’s cat like tail thumped against the ground hoping that the soft sound would cause her mother to stir so that Rose wouldn’t have to waken her. It didn’t seem to be working. The sunlight passing through the branches of the trees seemed to be just enough to keep her mother in a near comatose state.

Rose heaved a sigh and let her head drop solidly to the ground. It was so boring being with her mother. Her mother had no friends and seemed to enjoy a mostly solitary existence. She had often said it was better that way but Rose disagreed with fervor. Rose had been around people before and she enjoyed the thrill of it. Out there, somewhere, she had two brothers but she rarely got to see them. It was some strange agreement between her mother, her father, and her father’s special friend. Her father and her father’s friend were in charge of rearing her two brothers and Rose was left alone with her mother. She could ask to see her brothers whenever she liked, her mother had never failed to bring her by for a visit when it was requested, but it was so hard to request a visit when Lycoris insisted on sleeping the day away.

“Mama.” Rose said with her voice just above a whisper. No response. “Mama.” She tried again increasing the volume to a regular speaking tone. Still nothing. Black Rose considered shouting and raising a general fuss but got the feeling that such behavior would lead only to some form of lecture. Her mother wasn’t the type for scolding but Lycoris was just a bit too fond of sitting Rose down and forcing her to think through why her actions weren’t appropriate in the gentlest way possible. It always made Rose feel absolutely terrible for doing anything to begin with.

Rose lifted her head again and thumped it against the ground a few more times. This boredom was going to kill her, she could feel it in her bones. Of course, it didn’t have to kill her. A mischievous thought passed into her mind. She didn’t have to get her mom’s permission to do something. When she was with her brothers, permission was a bit of an afterthought whenever they did something. She could leave and be back before her mom noticed or even woke up.

Rose grinned as she rolled onto her feet. This would be fun! Sparing only a second to look back at her mother Rose ran off into the woods as fast as her young legs could carry her. There was a little spring not far away that other soquili occasionally came to, she headed for that not worrying about the racket she made as she bolted through the trees and scrub brush. She hadn’t even made it halfway there when a little voice called out to her. She stopped her blistering pace and turned back a little ways.

“Hello?” She called back. The voice had come from the other side of the bushes that she had brushed against as she ran past. “Who’s there?”

All of her anger and rage at her sibling sort of rushed away as Allie realized she was all alone... Well, wherever she was. In the woods, for sure... And sort of near the creek where they had been playing a few days ago? And somewhere beyond that was the glade where her mother and siblings were... But she definitely didn't want to go back there. So, she didn't really need to know the way back, right then, right?

When she wanted to go back, she could find her way... Mostly?

With a stubborn shake of her head, Allie put the questions out of her mind for the moment. She'd think about all that later, once she figured out who was out there. But what if it was a Skinwalker? What if it was one of those scary Kalona that she heard adults whispering about sometimes? With big fangs and scary wings so they could swoop down and EAT little fillies like her! What if it was the kind with big scary claws that could turn into a giant monster-like bear or a huge wolf!

"Oh no." She whispered softly as her mind began thinking of all the scary things she had overheard. Maybe she was about to be chased, or pounced on and eaten. Swallowed in one gulp by a big scary WalkerBear. Or maybe they'd drag her off and throw her in a cave and eat her when she was bigger... Or maybe it was a wolf or a big scary cat and would chase her until she was too tired to run and and and pounce on her!

But then the voice she heard was soft and sounded young like hers.. And Allie was back to being curious again. "Hello."

She frowned at the shrubs, pacing closer. "Uh... Me, I'm here. I'm Allie. Who are you?"

Belatedly Black Rose realized that calling out to a stranger in the woods was not a particularly smart idea. Had her mother not spent countless hours teaching her about the dangers of the world? Anything could be waiting on the other side of those bushes and just because it sounded nice didn’t mean that it actually was nice. Rose hesitated to answer the freshly posed question. The voice was young but lots of things were born young. Wolves, bears, and even shape shifting beasts known as skinwalkers could be young.

She flicked her fuzzy ears a few times as she tried to listen more closely. She wasn’t actually sure what she was listening for but her mother had done it on more than one occasion when checking new areas. Her mother had also always sniffed the air. Black Rose tried this as well but could only smell earth and the bush right in front of her face. She took an even deeper breath until Rose was certain she’d pop from the extra air and still could smell nothing. Why did adults do so many things that seemed pointless? Rose would have to ask her mother later, for now she had to deal with what awaited her on the other side of the bushes.

Telling herself that it was nothing to be afraid of she replied, “I’m Rose. What are you Allie?” As she replied she slowly started edging her way around the bush to try and catch a peek at the stranger. If she moved fast enough she might be able to get away with it if it proved to be dangerous.

'If you get eaten by a Skinwalker (or even a big, scary Kalona because sure sometimes they eat foals) because you did exactly what Butterfly always does and then you yell at her for, what will you do with yourself?' An obnoxious little voice in the back of Allie's mind pointed out as she glanced worriedly around her. 'And anyway, even if you don't get eaten -which you could, because you were stupid- how can you yell at her when you're doing the thing you would be yelling about? What -if anything- about this was smart?'

It wasn't. It was careless and foolish and she was silly and scared and more than anything Allie wanted to take it back. If she could just not be eaten today she'd go home and she wouldn't even terrorize Dobby for a week. Maybe even two weeks! Maybe she'd even feel about their fight today -though he had started it, calling them ugly, he deserved the kick she gave him- maybe she'd say sorry, if she could just get home safely... If she just didn't get eaten today.

And what had she done? She'd gone and introduced herself. Maybe it was a baby Kalona? Or a baby walker? And there was a parent nearby just waiting for her to stumble into danger and make herself dinner. 'Please don't be big and scary, or even small and scary, or want to eat me...'

Rose. Rose? Allie thought to herself for a moment or two, flicking her ears. It didn't sound like a Walker name, right? Didn't they have scary names to go with their scary claws and strange pelts and sharp teeth? Wasn't that how it worked? So, Rose probably wouldn't eat her? Maybe? Hopefully?

'What are you?' Well that was a bit of a rude question. A fair one, but still.

"I'm a Soquili." She hedged, but saying 'just a harmless groundwalker' made her sound like too much of an easy meal. And she wasn't! She could run, and hide, if Rose decided she would be a good snack. But there was no way to say that, so she thought of something else instead. "A child of two powerful clans, and my Mama and siblings will miss me if I do not return... And my Papa is scary, and will be upset if I am gone long. But, I wanted to go for a walk."

It was nicer to say "I wanted to go for a walk" than it was to say "My brother made me so mad I had to leave or I'd kick him again and then Mama would be mad." So that's what she said. And it was mostly true, well half-true. And since she wasn't sure what "Rose" was, she had to be careful.

"She and my big sister and my other siblings are close." She hedged, and then sighed. "Alright, I answered. Now your turn. What are you, Rose?"

Rose flinched and then recoiled back to her side of the bush at Allie’s proclamation. Catching a peek didn’t seem like such a good idea when Allie said she was the child of two powerful clans. Didn’t that mean that she herself was also powerful? The idea behind a ‘scary papa’ didn’t sit well with Rose. Her own father was anything but. She didn’t want to tangle with scary people or people with scary relatives. She thought about just leaving but didn’t as the other said she was out for a walk. A soquili out for a walk didn’t sound especially dangerous. It wasn’t like they were out hunting or something else equally diabolical. She stayed quiet for a moment even after being prompted with a similar inquiry as the one she had posed.

Dare she answer?

“I’m a soquili too! The daughter of a mighty thief with mighty claws and a poisonous flower!” She boasted flexing her own claws into the dirt. She wasn’t anything to trifle with either, just because she wasn’t from any powerful clan didn’t mean anything. She could still be strong all on her own.

Emboldened by her own words Rose darted around the other side of the bush to see who this powerful soquili was. She stopped dead in her tracks at the sight of the other. “You’re just a normal soquili like my mom!” Rose exclaimed before bursting out laughing. To think that she’d been even a little afraid of the other foal. “I thought you were somethin’ scary!”

'Seriously, if you do get eaten, what will happen? If you become a ghost you'll have to hear momma telling siblings about your bad example... And Dobby? Oh boy, will Dobby laugh. That'll sure prove he's not the dumbest one anymore. After all, he won't have been the one to run off and get himself eaten by a bear or something. Stupid.'

Yeah, she didn't really like the little voice at all, especially because it kept making valid observations that made her feel foolish. Wasn't there a saying about... About looking back on your life and having perfect vision, where things may have been completely different back where you had been standing at the time? Allie was getting that feeling right about now, and she'd certainly rather the whole situation was reversed. Where was this perfect vision before things got rough, hmmm? The perfect vision that stopped her from doing silly, impulsive things.

'It was there before, of course... Though it was dull and boring and maybe you noted that it sounded a bit like Dobby, but only because that was the most annoying thing you could think at the time. You loudly announced you knew all and sort of trampled all that into the dust. Way to go, Allie.'

She hoped if Rose was scary, that mentioning the Clans would give her pause about attacking Allie. It wasn't even a lie, which the filly took comfort in. Her mother and father both were from large herds, steeped in traditions. Their power lay in numbers, in familial bonds, rather than sharp claws or big teeth or impressive wings. But hopefully the threat of that strength would keep monsters at bay.

Then again, the stranger had a better story than she did, and now Allie was worrying again. A mighty thief? Claws? A poisonous flower? (She barely swallowed the immediate reaction, 'Cool!' because it was decidedly unimpressive and not at all fearsome.) That didn't even sound like a Soquili anymore! It sounded like a, a, well, something that wouldn't be scared of a few ground-walkers looking for their lost daughter, that was for sure. 'Aww darn, Alls, you may have gotten yourself in over your head with this one... Now what are you gonna do?' she thought miserably.

But then the filly ran around the hedge and stopped almost nose-to-nose with her, and Allie was staring at, well... Just another Soquili, really.

"Just?" Allie barked, a little riled. "And you're not scary at all, and you sure don't look like a monster plant! I thought one of those weird fly-trap things suddenly grew legs and claws and a mouth to talk with!"

Staring at the black and pink coated stranger, Allie blinked for a moment before bursting into a merry peal of giggles. "Well... That's what we get for talking through a hedge, I guess?"

Rose didn’t stop laughing even when Allie snapped at her a bit. She was in a state close to hysterics. The fear she had felt was rushing out of her all at once leaving her in a strange, giggly mood. She stopped for just a moment as the thought of a walking, talking Venus fly-trap. The image was horrifying but also somewhat comical.

“Ew, why would anyone want to be something like that?” She asked scrunching up her face in distaste. “I’d much rather be me.” Rose concluded seriously before a lopsided smile started to spread over her face. That’s what they got for talking through a hedge indeed. All that confusion could have been avoided if Rose had just been a bit bolder a lot sooner. Before long Rose was back to laughing right along with the other filly as though it was the funniest thing in the world. They had just been so nervous about the other’s presence. It was laughable now. Neither of them was anything remotely scary, Rose was pink with fuzzy ears for crying out loud.

After a while Rose’s laughter died into occasional, soft giggles and she was able to breathe normally again. “My mom really is a flower though.” Rose insisted with a smile. “She looks just like them and she wears the red ones in her hair. I’m not allowed to touch them because they’re bad for you. Are you really from a bunch of powerful clans or were you just making it up?”

Allie couldn't even really be mad when the other filly laughed through her hot-headed reply, since the whole thing was rather silly. For the moment she was awfully glad no adults had been around, because she could just imagine them standing to one side and watching two foals yell increasingly creative stories in order to keep each other at bay on their own side of the wall. Thank goodness neither of their families were here. It awas all rather silly and stupid and now really, really funny...

"I don't think anyone would want to be like that." Allie returned as her giggles subsided. "I'm just saying some of them are. And that was what I though you were! It is certainly better to be you."

She took a moment to glance at Rose's ears, then her long tail, and gave a nod. "No scary plant-parts... Looks good to me."

Maybe they would run across the plant monster though... To see if it really was true. That could be an adventure, right? Something friends went and did? Allie was hoping they could be friends, they were certainly off to a good start.

"Oh, she is?" Allie echoed inquisitively at this news. "That's neat. And yes, my mother and father are from two very powerful clans, and apparently they used to get along. I don't know the whole story, but right now my father is away. I think he went back to the herd to talk to them... There was something about the war when the Kalona attacked... I didn't hear all of it, I was supposed to be sleeping, but my mother and older sister were talking..."

Allie didn't know much about Kalona other than that they were dangerous, and once a great herd had attacked the land. She guessed that was why her mama wasn't with her herd anymore, but Allie didn't really know. There were some questions you weren't supposed to ask.

"Do you know anything about any of that?"

Rose definitely didn’t disagree that it was better to be herself rather than some nasty plant beast gone wrong. She quite liked the way she looked. It was true that she didn’t really closely resemble her mother or father beyond a few superficial details but it was still a good look. Her tail was nice and long and she could control how it moved from end to tip and she had lovely talons (inherited from her father). She also had nice pinkish stripes like her mother’s and a mane of hair. It was a good look at Allie seemed to agree. She smiled at the other filly’s positive assessment of her appearance.

“Wow.” Rose marveled with wide eyes as Allie recounted what she knew of the story. “You really must be pretty powerful too then. If he’s handling kalona and a herd.” She wasn’t aware that she was misunderstanding some of what had been said. All she knew was that it sounded like Allie’s father was very important.

“I don’t know much. I know kalona are scary and that we shouldn’t go near them. And I know they’re strong and mean too.” Rose’s education on the subject of kalona had been rather limited. She knew very little on where they had come from, what they did, or why they did it. All Lycoris every really told Rose was what was dangerous and what that looked like in great detail. Rose could immediately point at a kalona and say what it was but if asked what precisely made it dangerous her knowledge would fall painfully short of the mark.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 02, 2015 1:20 pm

"A whole lot better than being a scary plant thing." Alderfly muttered, with a sort of finality like she had passed judgement on the matter and that was rather the end of it. She wasn't sure she could be friends with a scary plant-creature, but Rose was nice. She figured she and Rose could be friends.

Again the native filly pondered proposing they go in search of the strange plant-like Soquili. Rose seemed like the type to enjoy a good adventure, and it certainly would be one, creeping through the forests trying to find, well, whatever one would consider that thing to be. 'Maybe later.'

Still, Rose was pretty even if her mother was a flower, or part flower, or however she had put it. Her tail was long and interesting, and her claws fierce and clever. Allie imagined she could do all sorts of things with those clever claws, things that she couldn't even imagine with hooves. Make things? Break things? Allie didn't even know, but maybe Rose made art or something with her clever claws.

"I don't know, I guess he must be powerful since they're both children of great herds and he was going to confer with his." Allie agreed easily enough. There really was no telling what her father was doing with his herd. He could be convincing them to go to war on the remaining Kalona, like she'd heard all of the native horses had done when the great wall attacked. She wasn't supposed to have been listening, so she hadn't heard all that much.

"Like I said, I was supposed to be sleeping, and he's been traveling awhile. I don't really remember much about him, except that he was big and black and had a deep voice.. And his eyes were bright and red. My sister Butterfly has his eyes, or at least the closest of the three of us."

She tilted her head, momentarily distracted. "Do you have siblings?"

Allie nodded when Rose mentioned that Kalona were scary and strong and mean, she had heard all of that too. It made her want to say far away from them, which probably made her father very brave if he was talking about fighting them. Which meant he was also strong, right? So powerful and strong and brave? That sounded like a good way to describe her father.

"Yeah, I've heard that too. And that they usually have horns, straight ones or big curving ones... And sometimes they have hooves that are cloven, sort of like a Unicorn's but not... And their tails don't always have hair, and they almost always have lots of sharp teeth." Allie rattled off the information she remembered from her mother's warnings. "That you should stay away from them when you can, and run if you can... And to be very careful, because most of them fly unless they're a crossbreed without wings. And you can't always rely on them having the thin, bat-like wings... Sometimes they have feathers and stuff too."

Black Rose smiled to herself over the finality in Allie’s words. She was much better than being a scary plant thing. It probably wasn’t that hard of a mark to beat but it still made Black Rose proud to be better than anything. She was also probably better than fungus and baths, or at least she hoped so.

Moving right along Rose considered what Allie was saying about her father. She didn’t know what ‘confer’ meant but it certainly sounded important so she made sure to make her face look duly impressed. “I’m sure when you see him again you can ask him all about it.” Rose said with complete confidence that she would see her father again one day. Probably even one day soon if he’d already been traveling for a while.

Her face faltered slightly at the question of her own siblings. “Um, yeah I’ve got two brothers.” She replied flicking the tip of her tail. “Virus looks like our mom, and Nefarious looks more like our dad.” And I look like some backwards combination. Black Rose thought to herself which was enough to make her smirk. She loved her brothers and her family very much but she wished she got to see more of her siblings. Every time she went to visit it seemed like the boys were growing closer and closer together and further and further away from her. She entertained the thought of bringing Allie to visit her brothers for just a minute but it was short lived as the conversation was already winding away from the subject of family and back to kalona.

“I’ve heard they can have like, four horns, all sharp! Sometimes more!” Rose added shivering slightly before giggling. It was almost like telling scary stories in the middle of the night. “I’ve heard they have weird tentacle tails with spikes on them! Or long ones like a lizard but with a blade on the tip!” Black Rose’s tail began to sway back and forth with increasing speed as her enthusiasm on the subject grew.

“My mama said that you should always find some place small to hide if you can’t run, cause they’re too big to fit.” She said feeling very wise at the moment. Rose was pretty good at finding hiding places too, so if she ever ran into a kalona that would probably be her first choice rather than running. “She also said that they don’t like unicorns or angeni much so if you can find one of those it would probably help you.” Rose wasn’t sure how true that bit was having never met an angeni or a unicorn before. They were supposed to be nice breeds but that was all hearsay so far as Rose could tell. Still, if her mama thought it was worth a shot she might as well relay the information to Allie.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 05, 2015 12:54 pm

The other filly's smile made Allie grin widely, flicking her tail back and forth in pride and contentment. She stood a little taller as well, just short of vibrating in place. She wanted to be off, to go cantering through the woods and adventuring, but she was rather sure that they'd get to that eventually. This was going to be awesome!

"I'd like to think so." Allie agreed, frowning faintly at the thought. "Though Mama said he may be gone for awhile. I am not even sure I'll recognize him when he does return. I feel like I forget, you know? All I had to begin with were glimpses, bits and pieces.. The shadow of his pelt, his voice.. But that seems harder and harder to remember in detail."

The next moment, the grullo filly shook that thought off. Snorting faintly as she dismissed the matter. "Two brothers? Eeek, I'm sorry. Are they awful sometimes? My one brother -Dobsonfly- isn't really awful, but he's sorta hopeless. It's a good thing my sister Butterfly and I are around to help him, he'd be lost or in trouble all the time otherwise. If Mama only knew, he'd probably be grounded to the home glade all the time."

She shook her head, giving a sympathetic tsking sound. Poor Dobby, what would he do when she and Butterfly were older and left home? He was the youngest, he needed the most help. And he was a boy besides. Allie was sort of getting the feeling that all boys needed extra help, they just weren't as sensible as girls were. Maybe Rose knew more, with two brothers to observe all the time?

Not that any of that mattered, because the next moment Rose was talking about Kalona again. In spite of herself, Allie felt her ears swivel forward and her neck stretch out, craning to get just a bit closer as she listened to the other information. "Four? Wow! They probably use them to stab Soquili... That's really scary!"

She grinned and giggled when Rose laughed, glancing around the clearing just to make sure there weren't any Kalona sneaking up on them. Not that sh thought they could, but still, one couldn't be too careful. "Eeew, tentacle tails? Or spikes? That's weird and scary and kinda gross. I'm glad we don't have tails like that. They sound creepy."

"A place to hide? Like in a tree? My sister and I know of some thorny berry bushes that have small paths worked into them, probably from bunnies or something? Anyway, they're big enough that foals can fit through them now, and maybe small deer? So we can hide there, for one thing. And the berries are really good too, you just have to be careful of the thorns when you eat them."

She hadn't ever thought of running to a Unicorn or an Angeni for help. She didn't know any of them, but it would probably be a good thing to meet them and make friends with them if she had the chance. "I don't know any of them, but I feel like we should find some and make friends with them, if that's true. We won't be small enough to hide in bramble bushes or fallen trees forever. And if they fly, it's hard to outrun them."

The filly brightened a bit. "I have a cousin or something that's a half-Unicorn. I think he has Unicorn friends. Maybe when I meet them I can bring them to meet you... So that we'll have Unicorn friends to fall back on, if we can't hide? It's always good to have a backup plan, right?"

Rose nodded her head with wide eyes as Allie came to the same conclusion that she had long ago: kalona hurt others. They also probably ate people. She’d overheard someone saying something like that once, it hadn’t been her mother. She didn’t even know if it was true. It certainly made for good story telling though.

“They are creepy!” Rose agreed nodding her head with a very serious expression forced onto her face. “And that’s why we have to run and get away!” Rose flicked her tail back and forth as she pondered Allie’s suggestions for hiding places. She didn’t know about getting up a tree, Rose was pretty sure she wouldn’t be able to, but she had also never tried. She wondered if maybe she could make it after all. It would be something for her to try later, right now there were talks of briar patches to discuss.

“A thorny bush sounds perfect!” She exclaimed bouncing her front half up and down while leaving her back half firmly planted. “Especially if there are snacks in it too! We could definitely outlast a kalona in one!” And they’d have good company in the rabbits too. This plan was sounding better and better the more Rose thought about it. All they’d have to do would be find a bunny and follow it into the brambles and then wait for the nightmare to leave, it was foolproof! And it only seemed to improve as Allie mentioned her half-unicorn cousin.

Or, we could bring the unicorns into the brambles with us. Right? We could have a party!” Rose was beginning to lose touch on the situation. It had lost any factor of fear that it had once held on her. Now it was just sounding like something they ought to do for fun. They could have a party in the bushes with berries, rabbits, and unicorns and then, when the kalona left, they could all go climbing trees!

Rose’s eyes burned with excited energy as her eyes locked with the trunk of a maple tree. There was a bough growing just low enough that she could probably reach it if she reared back. Her tail flicked back and forth steadily as she considered the challenge it presented.

“Allie. I’m going to climb that tree!” She declared boldly as she strode toward the maple in question. The closer she got the higher the limb seemed but that didn’t deter her any. Black Rose reared back and awkwardly moved forward to brace her claws on the bark of the trunk. Then she shifted to get her claws on the bough hanging just by hear head. She got her claws around it easily enough but when it came time to pull herself up she couldn’t do it. She tried kicking off the ground and bracing her hind hooves on the tree to boost herself but it wasn’t any good.

With a sigh Rose released the tree leaving deep grooves in the bough and dropped back to the ground. “Allie. I am not going to climb this tree.” She declared knocking a bit of fallen bark away from her with a claw.
