 Mana was walking down the cliff side to get to the stream for water. She glanced around warily, as her mate often told her to do when wandering too far from the tribe. She quickly got her drink of water and made her way back to the tribe when something caught her eye. Her ears perked, and she turned to examine what it was that distracted her.

 Twilight was inside of a bush having been born a few weeks ago and her mother's body about a mile away, dead. Twilight was whimpering wanting her mommy's milk as she had not eaten since the last sunrise before her mother lift for food for herself. Twilight being only a few weeks old, wouldn't last much longer if this continued.

Mana blinked and gasped at the sight of the squirming pup, and instinctively leaped over, nuzzling the pup with her muzzle. "Shh, little one. I'll take you home." she said gently. She picked up the young wolf in her mouth, and made her way back to the tribe quickly. Though she had no pups of her own, Mana desperately wanted a child of her own, and hoped her mate didn't mind the arrival of the pup.

Skaal sat up on the edge of the cliff that lead into their clan's caves, watching his mate return from the river. He eyed her curiously, spotting something in her mouth. He jumped down the short cliff and sniffed the small creature in her jaws, "What have you brought us this time, Mana?"

Twilight being only three weeks old would need to have mother's milk for a little while. When Mana picked her up, her grunts became happy ones filled with joy and relief. She hoped that Mana was taking her to her mother for milk.

"It's a pup, Skaal..." she replied, her words slightly muffled from carrying the small one in her mouth. "Come, we must talk." She walked up towards the short cliff, where she and Skaal had made their nest. She set the pup down gently in the moss, and turned to look at her mate. "Her mother was dead. I couldn't leave her there to die. Not one this young... I want to take care of her." she said, nudging the pup with her nose. "Please. She needs a mother now more than ever in her life."

Skaal followed his mate. He nodded as he listened to her inside their den, sitting down on his large paws. "Alright, it can stay. But we might have to move again soon. Our prey is on the move again. Think we can care for her still?"

Twilight was grunting softly as she was starving. She the let out a small squeaky puppy bark trying to say she was hungry. As she did this, she started crawling over to Mana on the moss bed wanting to nurse.

Mana smiled and nudged Skaal with her nose. "Thank you, Skaal. I shall care for it, you needn't worry." she said. Then she lightly nudged the pup back into the nest. "Alright, little one... You shouldn't cry so." she said, laying in the nest close to the pup so she could nurse. "I suppose we should name her."

Skaal tilted his head slightly as he watched mana feed the pup. Then he asked, "And I suppose you had an idea for the little one's name?"

Mana tilted her head a little as well, pondering for a moment. Then she looked at her mate with a smile. "Twilight." she said simply, looking back at the pup nursing from her. "It would suit her, and I found her in the break of twilight..."

Skaal huffed, blowing air from his nose as he stood up again. "Cute. But I think I need to hunt. I'll see what I can find." He brushed her cheek with his nose.

As Twilight nursed, she could hear them talking about her. She finished nursing once she'd had her fill before she crawled over to Mana's chest and snuggled between Mana's front paws falling asleep. Her size was normal for her age but a bit small since she was a female. She hoped her real mommy was okay. She didn't know her mother was dead but somehow knew that Mana was her mommy and Skaal was her daddy now.

Mana nodded her head. "Be careful, Skaal." she said, as she lightly nudged the pup with her muzzle.

"Yeah, you take care of yourself too," he said, before slowly looking down at the small pup between her legs. "And take care of this one too." Then Skaal left the cave and bounded across the field to hunt for their dinner.
