So this is what losing one's mind feels like.
Hard Truths could never remember feeling so anxious in his entire life. Wasn't he supposed to be more controlled as an adult? And yet somehow, he was more flustered than ever. Over a mare. A particular mare. She was perfect and he was not and he had to make this perfect, and ARGH!
This was an emergency, right? He could cheat and let himself use magic this time. After all, it wasn't every day one proposed marriage. Or every week, in this case, he supposed. As a unicorn who preferred to do things well and more slowly than rushed and quickly, he had already planned out what he was going to do in advance and said plan would take exactly a week to carry out if all went right. The trouble was making sure that all actually went according to plan.
While in theory it seemed like a fine idea, actually carrying it out was more intimidating than he'd realized. Not only was he on his own, but at any one of his stages, he could fail, and he had a lot of stages. Seven days he had to endure this torture while keeping his cool. Seven days of chances that Sweet Bread might figure it all out before it was time. Seven days for him to screw up just once, causing all his careful planning and preparations to go to waste.
But no. He wouldn't allow that to happen. This was his proposal and he was going to make sure nothing was left up to chance. With a little magic, a lot of hard work, and his determination to see the week through, he would do it. This would be the best proposal ever.
Steeling himself as a soldier might for battle while on the front enemy lines, the unicorn marched into Sweet Bread's bakery on Monday with a bag full of sea salted, dark chocolate-drizzled kettle corn.

Phew. Finally it was the end of the day and Sweet was waving to the last customer as they walked out the door. It was quite the busy monday for her little boulangerie (bakery, had French today, OTL)! Even though she was already fatigued, the mare finished closing up shop. She cleaned off the tables, swept, mopped, organized the display all so everything could be ready for Tuesday.
Sweet Bread flipped off the lights and was just about to head upstairs when she noticed a figure making its way towards the doorway. “Hmm? I wasn’t expecting anyone…” Upon closer expectation it was her silver haired fox of a boyfriend, Hard Truths. With a big smile she trotted her way over, flipping the lights back on and quickly unlocking the entrance.
“I’m sorry, but we’re closed….” She stated, trying to act coy but couldn’t wipe the smile from her face. Sweet Bread loved when he came over after work, nothing could unwind her from a stressful day like getting to see him. Gently she nudge forward letting her snout rub along his bearded jaw line. “I’m kidding. Are we going out or are you coming in?~” The mare said as she lingered in the doorway with him.

Hard Truths was so thrown off by Sweet Bread's statement that for a moment he didn't realize she was joking and almost didn't know what to do. Then he forced a laugh which eased into a more genuine one when he saw the mare's smile.
"Is that so? That's too bad, because I have a delivery here and it seems like it was meant to be eaten between a couple while watching a movie." Face flushing when she rubbed her muzzle against his jawline, he affectionately nestled his own against her cheek before brushing it with a light kiss. Her question about whether they were going out or he was coming in made him feel tingly inside as she often did, happy to think that no matter what, she wanted to be with him.
"I thought we could go out," he managed to say after a little while. "If it isn't too short notice, of course. If you...need to get ready or anything, I'm perfectly fine with waiting, especially because this is such short notice. I apologize for this being so out-of-the-blue, but it was supposed to be something of a surprise." He lowered his head to look at the ground before raising just his gaze to meet her golden eyes. "I'd be honored if you would accompany me tonight...and, if possible, once each day for a week This week." He chuckled. "If you think you can stand me that long.

Sweet's ears perk up listening intently as he began to talk about the mysterious delivery that happened to look like your average box of popcorn. Grinning as her cheeks heated up, even after all this time together, from the kiss she received. "Oh a movie and a treat? Heh, why that sounds just lovely.~" The mare's voice was soft and warm, more than thrilled by the surprise date, no matter if it was a night in or a night out!
"No, no. That's fine. Just let me check to see if I'm covered in flour or anything.~" She was just about to pull away and check in the mirror she keeps as decoration in her dining area, when Truths suddenly got a bit more deliberate. "Well, I always have time in my schedule for you, but it you don't mind me asking..." The curious mare's brow arched as she poised her next question. "Why so many dates?" Her mouth pulled into a tiny smirk as she questioned him, but intensity faded quickly. It truly didn't matter what the occasion was. She just felt like the luckiest girl.~
Hopefully easing any of sudden tension, she shifted back inside a few steps to look over herself to make sure she didn't look like the crazy bread lady. Nothing looked too out of order she only had to comb down a few hairs. Turning back she would join her date outside, locking the door behind them. "Alright, ready when you are.~" Quote: I pushed them outside. Hope ya don't mind the advance! xD

"Glad you think so. We just might have a hard time sneaking this in because I'd forgotten they prefer moviegoers to only consume food from the concession stands..." He glanced at his saddle bag. "But, um...I thought I'd attempt to follow a recipe on my own and made some kettle corn. It's got sea salt and dark chocolate, so it's not all that sweet, I'm afraid. Still, I thought it might be a nice change from normal popcorn."
He smiled with a dreamy expression, clearly in bliss even as she asked about his date plans. "Hm? Oh, well, I...I've been wanting to practice different recipes on my own so that I can be of more help to you at your bakery than a burden. I mean if you have to watch me all the time like a child, that's more a detriment to you, isn't it? So I thought I could borrow you for a little bit every day to try what I made. If you'd be willing." The unicorn looked thoughtful. "Not to mention we need to work on adding more 'you' time to your schedule, remember? It'll just be for this week, but I may need to alter your bakery hours. Like tomorrow afternoon, for instance."
Hard Truths smile broadened briefly, a little nervously, before waiting to accompany her out. "You look marvelous," he said, joining her side as the headed toward the movie theater. "Any recent films you had in mind...?"

As they finished the popcorn and the movie played through, Truths seemed strangely happier than his usual demeanor suggested. Once the credits began to roll, he got up, going to stand by the exit so he could hold it open for his date as he waited. "How did you like it?" he called blissfully. "The kettle corn, I mean. Though I'm curious about what you thought of the movie, too."
At the bottom of the bag of kettle corn, among the bits of leftover kernels and salt, was a somewhat chocolate-smeared note in elegant script that read,
'A salty old phony comes bearing salt snacks, his coarseness and crudeness pervading his acts'

Slowly the dim lights along the walls and stairs of the movie theater came back on. She caught a small glint of something in the bag. Furrowing her brows she quickly read the script. "Oh?" She murmured under her breath, and quickly rolled up the bag to take it with them. Sweet Bread decided to keep her knowledge of the note to herself for now.
"The popcorn was deliiiicious!~ I love what you did with the dark chocolate. If that's proof of anything. It looks like you are showing promise!~" As they walked home she talked about the movie with him, giggling about some of the scenes. "The two deities were super cute and my favorite parts of the movie.~ I can see a little of us in them... Well, hopefully you won't be trying to take my bakery and we can just live there together peacefully.~"
Home again, she arrived. They shared a goodnight kiss on her bakery's steps and she went in to bunker down for the night. One more time she looked at the fancy script at the bottom of the bag before turning off the lights and heading to bed.

Her heart fluttered with joy as her shop closed for an extended lunch break today. She was expecting Truths today, but it didn't make things any easier. In fact it may of made things even more hectic for the little mare! Her brush kept getting stuck in her hair, she couldn't find his favorite perfume and she had to re-do her makeup at least twice from her shaky hooves . It was crazy, but she knew it would all be worth it. She made her way downstairs and out on to the porch to wait for him.
