xxIt was dark and storming. And all she could hear was the crashing waves and the screaming. Oh the endless screaming. She checked, but it wasn't her. She followed, unwillingly, to the sounds Turning endless corners through this maze of a building. At least she wasn't getting wet. Or so she told herself. She didn't feel the water prickling her skin, but she could feel something tingling along the very inches of her skin. Like someone or something was watching her. She looked around, but saw nothing in the dark. And started running. They couldn't catch her! It was impossible! She was always faster than most of her classmates... But as she turned the corner she came face to face to what was screaming. The uncontrollable deteriorating face of her Lucario was screaming and smiling at her. The brunette turned around trying to get away but the Lucario grabbed onto the wings in her costume. What was she anyway? An absol? She scrambled to get the wings off and when she did, she tumbled forwards. Her very being calling to be away from this place. And as she turned each corner, she ran into another mangled corpse. Friends. Isis.... Zero... Audrey... Alice... Liam.... David.... When David's popped up in front of her, the brunette screamed.
Shayna darted to sitting position and all she heard was screaming. Her father ran into the room and pulled her into his arms. And then she knew it was her. She was screaming. She lowered her voice as she wailed. Her father rocked her back and forth until she finished. It took maybe twenty minutes before she was functional enough to talk. And even then, the brunette didn't speak. This was the seventh time in a week she had been terrorized by these new night terrors. And it's not like she knew why. She remembered the ball. She remembered Himari... But most of it was a blur. But in her dreams? There was a boy that always brought her out of her dreaming. Brought her out of the awfulness that was the nightmares. But she had no clue who it was. She walked out of her room with her father. Still dressed in her pajamas, and only sipped on water. Himari stood at the door, along with Carter. They exchanged looks before Himari stepped over to the girl and pulled her off the kitchen table. "Let's do something. Get you out of that funk. Get you to smile. Everything is okay." The Lucario said trying to get Shayna to say something. The girl barely lifted one of the corners of her mouth before following the two towards her room to change. She stopped in the bathroom and saw herself. She grimaced at the gruesome way she looked. She wasn't scratched a battered like she had been after the ball. She was starting to heal. And most of the bruises were disappearing. But.... Why was there this empty feeling?
Shayna looked at the limp pieces of dry skin attached to her scalp. She hadn't done anything to her hair in a very long time. So long, that it was lackluster. And for some reason she wanted to take it out on her hair. Whatever the hole in her heart was... It would be fixed. She could be like she was. A trainer who was actually really far in her travels. But then again... With a sigh she finally entered her room and let her pokemon help her figure out what she was wearing. That stupid pink dress, yellow ribbon, and stockings... It was like that was all she wore. She was disgusted with herself. And to be perfectly honest, she was surprised no one else was. Turning to her two most trusted, she cleared her throat and the two anxiously waited. But nothing came out. And with a bit of disapointment in their eyes, the smiled encouragingly at her. They knew exactly what was wrong. And they were not going to respond. Not going to give in. To those soulless eyes. With a heavy heart, Carter left the room and went to find something to do for Shayna. "Would you like to do something different with your hair?" The Lucario asked and caught the look the brunette gave. She smiled slightly as she led Shayna to the bathroom and left her there. Shayna wasn't planning on doing much. But it took her a few hours.

xxShayna finally exited the bathroom. Feeling slightly refreshed and relieved. She hadn't had the nerve to cut her hair. Instead she changed it. And after about an hour, she was finally done and left the bathroom and headed straight for her room. Finally feeling like her old self. She changed into a pair of travel boots and a matching dress. She wanted to do something other than sit at the house any longer. Even conversations with Flannery were losing their touch. Now that she had beaten her idol... Well... It lost it's touch. Especially since Flannery couldn't help. But Shayna had forgiven her. Instead she walked into the kitchen and actually cracked a smile at her father's look. "Do you like?" She rasped as she twirled slowly. Her father raised an eyebrow before looking at Himari. Carter had been returned to his ball. Himari looked her over and shrugged. "As long as you are happy." She said to her trainer before returning to her food. "Honey, are you alright? I'm glad to hear you speak again, but are you sure such a change is alright? Do you think you are going to regret it?" her father asked. And Shayna could barely shake her head as she smiled. It was a small smile, but it was something. She took another drink of water before looking at Himari. "C-come on..." She said quietly and hoarsely.

xxShayna exited her family's home. It was the first time in a while that she looked around and could heard the sound of the gurgling hot spring. Before? It had been empty... Void of all life that had been there before. She couldn't remember the last time she had heard it. She looked to Himari as she entered the pokemon center. The nurse looked up and her eyes widened. "S-sh-shayna?!? What did you do to your hair?!?!?!?" She asked bewildered as she walked around the counter to look at her. She shrugged as the nurse felt the hair between her fingers. "Can't talk still I see.... Maybe you should use it..." She suggested as she looked her up and down. "I-it will... C-come b-b-back... In T-time." She stuttered hoarsely. Joy clucked at her for trying but then let her get to the pc like she had wanted. Switching Christoph for Carter, and Mizore for Yuura, she felt ready to go. She turned, looked at Himari who was giving her a questioning stare, before heading out of the pokemon center. She wondered how rusty she was at this whole traveling thing.

xxShayna looked around at her home town. Something about it made her sad. And something else made her feel nastalgic. She smiled slightly before looking to Himari, whose arms were crossed again, and the let out Carter. It felt like such a long time since she had gotten to use him. She wasn't sure why. It seemed she had fuzzy spots in her memory. Again... Why? Himari rolled her eyes at the girl before turning."Let's go shall we? It's not going to stay daylight out forever you know." The Lucario said. She was really just worried about Shayna's sanity at this point. And it wasn't just Shayna who had lost something... Himari had lost Quilava... And well... She was never going to admit her liking of the fire type...Carter followed slightly behind the two. Waiting for his moment to be her protector again. Shayna didn't seem to notice that her pokemon were holding their breaths. Waiting for her to do something that may cause them pain again. But she didn't know it. She would probably never know it.

Finally, they arrived. Faraday was a little surprised; the city wasn’t much of a city. It was more like a town to be honest; it was rather small in comparison to most cities that he knew. The Zorua seemed to agree, looking around with a less than certain look. Either way though, he located the pokemon center and went inside, handing his team over to be healed and taking a seat as he waited.
He flipped through his device, getting a clue and thinking of a strategy to handle the situation. The Zorua had found himself some magazines to read while they waited, which was a lucky find for Faraday’s wallet. Eventually they’d get back to an actual city and maybe find more variety but for now, that would have to suffice. Soon his team was healed up and he opted to pay a visit to the market. Any little bit helped and he managed to find an item or two that might give him a bit of an edge. Sure his pokemon had trained, but gym leaders were still tough.
Stepping back outside, he unleashed Murphy, kneeling down and tying the eviolite around her neck with a string. "Here you go Murphy. This’ll help toughen you up a bit." He remarked, smiling as the Mudkip chirped. He was still secretly concerned about her having not evolved yet which was probably the main reason he’d given her the item. There was no real time to question that though. He wanted to get this battle done and going. Returning her, he glanced at the Zorua, ushering it along to follow as they made for the gym.

Faraday strolled in to the Lavaridge Gym, immediately feeling uncomfortable. It was unusually hot in the building, which was kind of odd in his opinion. It took a little maneuvering –the place must’ve been built into the side of a volcano or something- before he finally found his way to the challenger’s ring. "Hellloo? I’m here to challenge the gym leader!" He called out, voice echoing off the walls. It took a moment before a girl flipped onto the scene in a dramatic fashion, straightening herself up and slapping her hands to her hips. Faraday stared in a bit of surprise.
”PUNY TRAINER!” And now he was frowning. Now what kind of greeting was that? The young woman seemed to recognize that as well, her temperament fading a little into uncertainty. ”Wait no, uhm… I mean. Welcome trainer! I’m Flannery! You dare to challenge me?!” It was evident she was putting on an act in an attempt to be tough. The detective and the Zorua exchanged looks, clearly unimpressed.
"Ah… yeah. I am." Faraday remarked politely, flashing the young woman a bit of a smile that suggested they get this battle underway. Flannery faltered again, looking a bit confused before she straightened up and pointed in his direction. Well, uhm, don’t think I’ll go easy on you! You’re gonna get burned! I promise!” Faraday quirked an eyebrow. It was too late for that.

Gym Leader Flannery
After the battle concluded Flannery stood in an odd position; head held high, legs apart, and hands balled into fists pressed firmly into her hips. "Ha ha ha! I beat you felt the heat with that one!" she proclaimed, a too large grin on her face. This was.. this was how gym leaders announced their loss, wasn't it? A solid thirty seconds passed before the redhead faltered and awkwardly shifted her feet back together, no that didn't feel right either... "Uh.. what I meant to say was..." As the gym leader struggled to find her words she approached Faraday, just barely remembering that she actually needed to award her challenger his prizes. "Congratulations on winning, you and your pokemon have proven yourselves worthy of the Heat badge." There! Now that sounded right! Offering a sheepish smile Flannery handed her items off to the brunette. "I also present to you the TM Overheat and HM Strength." There was a moment of silence, in which she squirmed uncomfortably, before she opened her mouth once more. "Oh, and uh, one more thing. You should try and have at least two pokemon with type advantages during your next battle-- you relied too heavily on your Mudkip and your other pokemon suffered because of it." That sounded like gym leader appropriate wisdom, didn't it? Her grandfather would've been proud! Right? ...Right?

Faraday’s head was lowered just a bit so that his hair created a sort of shadow across his face. Without much hesitation he returned Murphy to her pokeball, still averting his look even as Flannery approached. He didn’t even really seem to notice that she was completely getting the whole ‘announcing defeat’ process wrong. It was only when she approached that he finally lifted his gaze, a rather ambiguous but tense frown on his face. He eyed his winning a moment, reaching a hand out and snatching them up and shoving them into his bag. No magic, no tricks. "Thanks."
At her word of advice he tensed, giving her a sharp glare. It seemed he was about ready to lash out but instead simply took a deep breath and gave her a wry smile. "I’ll get better at that. You should practice your gym leader lines." And with that he gave a flick of his wrist good-bye and left rather quickly, Zorua right on his heels. There was no point lashing out at Flannery; she’d done what she was supposed to do. If there hadn’t been so many burns going on, his team might’ve done better and he might’ve not had to use Chromie as a wall to sneak some healing in. He’d owe her… a lot for that. Sighing he exited and headed immediately for the pokemon center. There’d be time to deal with that later; for now though, he needed to revive his team.

Arriving in Lavaridge, Marx took a look around. The place really wasn't that big. In fact, it was really, really small! Especially for a town with a gym. At least that made it easy to get around. He was even able to spot the gym on his way to the pokecenter, his gaze lingering on it a moment before he headed inside. "Excuse me, would you mind healing my pokemon, and can I borrow your shower?" he asked, flashing a smile as he reached the counter and rested his arms on it as he leaned forward. Nurse Joy smiled and nodded. "I would be happy to restore your pokemon to full health! And you're welcome to use our facilities, however, you may want to check the hotsprings, too. They're wonderfully relaxing, and most trainers find them enjoyable after traversing all the way up here," she replied. Marx blinked, then looked over to the doorway on the side of the building that led to the hot springs.
"Really? Oh! Well alright, thanks! I'll check those out, then!" he decided, looking back to her with a grin. He handed over his pokemon, then moved for the hotsprings, stopping in the changing rooms so he could get into his swim trunks and store his stuff away. After he made sure the egg, and the new, sleeping zorua, were both alright, he shrugged and headed outside. He'd never really been to a hotsprings like this before...

Marx made his way along the path and slipped into the hotsprings, not minding that someone else was in there. He practically melted, a grin crossing his face, before he slipped under. He came back up, slicking back his hair and resting back against the side, his eyes shut the entire time. "You look like you needed that." Marx blinked and perked up, looking over at the other person in the hotsprings, a guy reclining back with his arms up on either side of the edge. Marx took his time a bit as he dried off and got dressed. His expression remained ambiguous, but as he came back out, and returned to the pokecenter, he shook his head, and put on a smile as he made his way to the counter to pick up his pokemon. With his usual enthusiasm he thanked the nurse and headed outside, giving her a wave and then whipping about as he turned to the gym. He moved out of the way of the pokecenter to clear the doorway, but didn't head over to challenge the place just yet. For one, he had to make sure the egg wasn't hatching-- it wasn't, not yet. For another, he wanted to make sure he was properly prepared for this battle. He rearranged his party, then let Sableye out, giving the skeptical looking pokemon a big grin. "Hey Sableye, guess what!" he urged, reaching back, "I finally got you a stone! I don't think you should eat it, though." He produced the mega stone, then tossed it to the surprised pokemon, who caught it and looked it over. As Sableye began rolling it between his hands, he started to glow, and Marx stepped back, still grinning as he put an arm up to shield his eyes against the light. As he brought his arm down, he closed his eyes, and tilted his head to the side.
"Heh, see? Pretty useful, huh!" he commented.

Sableye seemed sincerely shocked, not only at his own form, but at Marx. The moron could actually do something this useful? Jaw slack, he looked at his shield, then Marx, then back at his shield, then at Marx again. Marx was just... grinning that stupid grin. Which meant this was... intentional? he actually knew what he was doing when he gave him that stone? Sableye frowned, looking at the stone. So, he'd just... evolved, huh? Sort of. And thanks to holding this stone... Hm. Smirking in satisfaction, Sableye lowered his hand, and propped the shield up onto his back. "Sab.... Sableye?" he asked.

Marx made his way into the gym, but stopped right outside. He almost forgot a few more things... namely, those TMs. He let out his pokemon, engrossed in his planning and not noticing many of them reacting to Sableye's new form. Basil narrowed his eyes, and Vaporeon glared, before scoffing, rolling her eyes, and looking away. Sableye grinned at that. Flygon cooed curiously, and he frowned, shoving her away, while Amaura and Litwick seemed to simply look in confusion or analytical curiosity. All the pokemon's attention was drawn back to Marx, however, as he started handing out TMs; Stone Edge for Flygon, Blizzard for Vaporeon, Dig for Vaporeon, Shadow Ball... for Vaporeon. At this point she was getting rather cocky about all the attention, but that drooped as the attention shifted to Sableye, and he was given Psychic, and Dazzling Gleam. Amaura received Stone Edge, Thunderbolt, and, surprisingly, Return, which seemed to confuse just about everyone, even as Marx grinned and gave the pokemon a pat on the head. Was Marx really that stupid... Whatever. Next he pulled out heartscales, using one three on Flygon to teach her Dragon Pulse, Iron Tail, and Earthquake, and another, oddly, on Litwick to learn Fire Spin. Finally, he gave Vaporeon something to hold. With that, he was finally done, and headed in to challenge the gym leader.

"Heh heh heh!" Flannery couldn't help but to laugh as she returned her last pokemon, her expression one of forced confidence and the determination not to show her disappointment in her loss; which ultimately mixed together to create the world's largest, and unnerving grin ever. "You did well to best me and my pokemon, challenger!" she complimented, thumbing her nose as she did so. With long, confident strides she cleared the battle field and lessened the space between herself and Marx, jamming one hand onto her left hip once she stood in front of him. "Here! Take this badge, so you don't ever forget the fiery trials you had to endure in my gym." Yeah... that was... better? Maybe? Inwardly, the redhead could only hope that the brunette didn't notice just how.. awkward she truly was, and in an attempt to make sure he didn't she quickly doled out his winnings, her smile remaining strong throughout the entire exchange.
