╔═══════════════════════════════════════════════╗ Arriving at the National Park Daichi was surprised at the condition of the place. It seemed almost untouched by other trainers. There was an obvious abundance of Bug Pokemon, and it looked like they were left strong enough to get some good training in. There was nobody around so he could easily let his Pokemon run outside of their balls. If they saw how each other battled they would get a better idea of the teamwork involved with being a part of this team. He wanted to be effective in single battles as well as double and triple battles. If his Pokemon were strong, then they would be able to stand on their own. But he was interested in them functioning as a team, all of them working as one. It would be tougher when capturing new Pokemon but if these four were accustomed to the way Toru did things it would be much easier in the future. Unleashing the Pokemon from their balls he was glad to let them out. “Ok guys, we’re going to do some training here, I want you to see how you battle, we need to be functioning as a team, in single or multiple battles. Got it?” He wiped his nose and the look in his eyes changed. This was the side of Toru that was the most dangerous, and the most successful. When he got serious about battling and training he became a totally different person, standing in front of the field of flowers, with his Pokemon at his side he steeled himself for the intense training that would come from the National Park.

A Weedle, odds are he wouldn’t have too much trouble with this one. “Ok Takanobu, you’re up, lead the charge,” his voice was serious now, a strong opposition to his usual jovial tone, a reminder of how serious he took battling. Takanobu stepped forth with an adorable roar that would hardly scare the hair off of a Weedle’s back. The tyrunt stood seriously in front of Toru, ready to battle.

The Weedle turned out to be tougher than he thought. If even the Weedle here were tough it would be a great way to train his Pokemon up. He preferred to train against much stronger opponents, if they were defeated the reward would be bigger, and there was no shame in losing to a stronger opponent. “He got you with that Poison sting huh, we’ll keep you healed up until we can get you healed don’t you worry,” reaching down he patted him on the head, he needed to make sure that his Tyrunt would be healed up enough to prevent from fainting before he could cure him on this poison, luckily he had a ton of potions at his disposal.

╔═══════════════════════════════════════════════╗ The rest of the team seemed to enjoy the battle. Takanobu was outclassed by that Weedle but he stood strong and defeated him regardless. Tobio nodded at and let out a soft cry, Tobio rarely got overly excited and was exceptionally calm. He shared this with Toru, who rarely showed emotion, only a stone cold emotionless focus. Between Takanobu and Tobio the both of them represented two sides of their trainer. Ashai seemed like he missed out on the fun, and Yachi looked as if she couldn’t care less. He wanted the four of them to be excited over a win like that. Looking back he didn’t refer to it as training because to be a trainer you needed to do much more than simply battle. What he did under his parents was just battling with their Pokemon for the most part. He still trained intensely on his own, keeping his physical condition high and his focus steeled on battling. He managed to keep that up while working with his team now. Although they had just begun their training he could already feel that they were behind him. ╔═══════════════════════════════════════════════╗ Returning to their training they were up against one of the most vicious looking Bug Pokemon, a Scyther, with its bladed arms and wings it was an imposing figure. “Let’s not sweat this, Tobio, handle it,” despite the opponent being much stronger then they were both remained calm. Toru was capable of staying calm in the most tense of situations. He was confident that they would win and so he was hardly worried about Tobio fainting. He had no idea how strong this Pokemon would be, but in a conventional battle they would no doubt lose, either way Tobio calmly tottered forward and prepared himself.

With type advantages it was no sweat for Toru and Tobio. They both remained calm, with Tobio tottering back towards his trainer, who knelt down to receive him. The two pounded fists and he tussled the hairlike head of his Ralts. Toru was surprised that the two with him had handled themselves well. He hoped that the two starters would be able to handle themselves the same. Either way, this was shaping up to be pretty interesting.

╔═══════════════════════════════════════════════╗ The training had been going fairly well, between the battles with the beefy bug types he was also enjoying the solidarity that the national park provided. He could keep his Pokemon out of their balls and not worry about other trainers trying to worm in on his Pokemon. Either way, he was good with the alone time he was afforded here. He needed to remember that Takanobu was still poisoned, and that was enough of a reason to head back to Violet City and hit the Pokemon Center. Gathering his team together he returned them to their balls one at a time, with Yachi taking her time getting there. He would still have to whip her into shape but she would definitely be the toughest one to wrangle into Toru’s team mentality.
Once he finally wrangled the Mudkip into her ball he was ready to head back to Violet for some healing. But it wouldn’t be long before he was ready to continue his training.

Not long after he had arrived at the National Park and let his team out of their balls they had bumped into a wild Venonat. Tobio made short work of the Venonat, much to the pleasure of his trainer. With a fist bump he wobbled next to his trainer and stuck close to him. Tobio was already garnering a strong bond with its trainer, and Toru was enjoying the bond between Pokemon and trainer, one that he had never had before with any of the rental Pokemon he had used in the past. He could feel the same bond growing with Takanobu but had been relying on the two Pokemon to do battle in this area, he wanted to make sure that the rest of his team didn’t lax behind but he also wanted to make sure that they didn’t get knocked out by any wild Pokemon. He needed to assure their victory and the strongest would get the nod, there was a time for making friends and he wanted to make sure that his team was as strong as possible. He had a bug type gym leader coming up soon, and he needed to focus on the Pokemon who could handle bugs.

Alternating between training his Pokemon and training himself he wanted to make sure that they felt like he wasn’t pushing them and them alone. The four Pokemon sat together on a bench eating, he bought them high end Pokemon food, not the cheap pellets that some trainers fed their Pokemon. One of the many bonuses of having a large budget was that he and his team were able to eat and live well. He wanted to make sure that they worked hard and that they were able to rest well. He had always said ‘Resting and taking a day off were two totally different things’ when it came to resting. He knew that you couldn’t train all day every day or you’d burn out. He often overexerted himself when he was focused on training too hard, often after a loss or a tragic event. He needed to make sure that as the captain of this team he needed to be at 100% as long as possible. Toru realized that the Pokemon followed the lead of their trainer so he needed to stay healthy and use good habits when it came to training. Pulling out a small box with his lunch in it he unpacked the box and began to eat. With his back to the seat of the bench and his Pokemon above him he smiled as he ate small bites. Taking a drink of water he let out a breath, “Good work these last couple of days. We’re all getting much stronger, and it won’t be long before we can take a run at this gym. Let’s keep it up.” He received a barrage of cries from his team, seeming to agree with him. ╔═══════════════════════════════════════════════╗ As the group at together and Toru told stories of his past it seemed as if they entered one of those moments that could go on forever. The sun shone brightly above them and almost reflected off the flowers that filled the park. The group had been training hard to get themselves ready for the Violet City gym battle, but more than that he wanted them to grow as a team. When it came to training and battling he took things very seriously and because they were alone in the park he was free to act as intensely and as focused as he needed to be. When it came to talking to other people and battling other trainers he needed to be calm and collected, and it was if he had three different personalities. His happy and overly mocking normal attitude, his serious and team oriented training mode, and his calm and collected battle mode.
When it came to the gym battle, he was fairly confident in his win. When it came to the type advantages of the battle he knew he had a huge edge, provided there wasn’t some thrown off type combinations. But with Takanobu’s typing and the coverage of Tobio’s Icy Wind skill there would be little trouble snubbing them out. As for the strength of his Pokemon he just wanted to make sure that they wouldn’t be intimidated by stronger Pokemon. He believed in them without question but it was them he was worried about.

A close battle, if it wasn’t for Takanobu’s resistances he would have been defeated, they got lucky this time but they needed to be more careful if they were going to continue fighting against Pokemon they didn’t have an answer to. As he returned to the trainers side Toru patted him on the head. But it wouldn’t be long before they encountered another wild Pokemon. The training was kicked into full gear now!

A kakuna, weak, easily dismantled by Ashai’s Heat Wave attack, an overly strong ability for such a weak Pokemon. Perhaps the intensity of the training was pushing his team to work harder and unlocking their laden potential much sooner than usual. Either way he was proud of the hasty Ashai who leaped at the opportunity to battle next. He was more than impressed by the handily defeat, not that Kakuna was too difficult a Pokemon but they were especially tough and to defeat him so easily was pretty impressive.

As usual he allowed all the Pokemon out of their balls in the park as they still had it primarily to themselves.
