There's an farmstead that's a frequent hang out for the local children, even in the throes of frigid Autumn that will soon become Winter. An old man and his wife own the place and offer up hot cider and cocoa to the children when they come and go, but often gently shoo them out of the cabin to play and not meddle with the work the farmers must perform. It's never an issue: there's plenty of imagination to go around to play cops and robbers, more than enough space and clutter for a spirited game of hide-and-go-seek, and currently, ample amounts of snow to build an army of snowmen. The children are more than able to entertain themselves until the sun starts to fall and their parents come to retrieve them.
Today, however, is different. The snowstorm has stopped for the most part, giving glimpses of ice cold sky amidst bloated steel clouds. It's bitingly cold, but that's never stopped you from meeting with your friends to go on a grand adventure. The old man gives you the usual order of hot drink, but today, there's more wrinkles of concern and less of a smile. Today, he's paying more attention to you and your friends. Unprompted, he says, "It's an auspicious day." Looking out the window, he mulls over his next words while idly rubbing his lightly stubbled chin. "Be wary the false storm, chitlin's. Don't stray into the forest, for if the storm comes in, you may not come out." The ominous warning is easily missed - if not entirely ignored - by you and your merry band of friends, crowing a chorus of 'well be careful!' as you soldier outside to play.
You and your friends are enjoying making snow angels when you spot a strange form fluttering overhead. It's not flying straight, like a bird, but zig-zagging as though weighted down, a spot of bright red in the almost colorless sky. Your friends also take notice, all of you standing up to watch the injured cardinal land atop the farmer's roof. You swear, for a handful of seconds, the eyes of the small avian meet yours, the bird chirping though the sound is lost from its height. The cardinal takes off from the house - falling before catching itself in flight - and begins to fly over the white expanse of the fields towards the forest.
You all share a look. You've all seen it. It's seen all of you.
You decide to help it.

The game will start on December 17th and last approximately a week. There will be a series of one way or the other type prompts (IE, left or right) in your attempt to catch up to and rescue the cardinal. You will have 24 hours from the given prompt to respond. If you do not respond, you will be considered 'out' for that round. Never fear! Certain prompts will have special options or dice rolls, which can have players who are out rejoin the game!
You do not have to roleplay a response to the prompt; you merely need to choose the option you'd like to follow. However, if you do roleplay your response, it could save you from a potential loss. You don't need to type lengthy paragraphs - even a few sentences will do. The more involved you are in the story, the more likely you are to survive the perils of chasing the cardinal!
Note: there is no singular correct path to take; your options can change the flow of the story. The end is pre-determined, but how you get there - and who makes it - is entirely in your hands. Fill out the code provided to sign up!

Personality: The child that he is has a limited amount of knowledge and experiences under his belt, but this little guy sure does not let that on through his demeanor most of the time. Warmed with his hood up, the scarf tied snuggly by his pa, and gloved hands comfortably stuffed in his sweater's front pockets, he had yet to speak at all to anyone here. Joe is in fact curious as he joins in following the injured cardinal. However all he would likely say at this point in time if asked about why he is also following the cardinal would be that he was bored and just happened to think that he might as well see what the other kids are up to.

Personality: Tessa is a very strong, independent, and intelligent young girl with a love for adventuring. She comes from a home filled to the brim with her dozen brothers and, being the only girl in the house, has developed quite a personality in order to distinguish herself from the rest. She's bossy at times, but usually quite well-meaning.

Personality: Waffle's real name is Jason, a normal name for a normal boy. Bright eyed and happy, Waffle enjoys the simple things in life, cartoons, chasing butterflyes, anddddd WAFFLES. He enjoys them drenched in syrup with mounds of butter, made with jelly or peanut butter, or any other sort of odd combination he can think of and his mom will allow.

Child's Name: Millie (short for Amelia)
Personality: Millie is a quiet and introverted little thing. She has large eyes that hide behind glasses, and she can usually be found wearing clothes that are too big for her. This young girl is never too far from a book (or a pile of them), and can be a bit of a know-it-all when it comes to hanging around other kids. Mostly, it seems that she just wants to prove herself in front of them, so she isn't looked down upon, but this has a tendency to backfire more often than not. She is a bit more eccentric than most.

Personality: Hyperactive and rarely seen without a lollipop sticking out of her mouth and gumdrops stuck in her hair, Sugarplum is a sugar-fiend with a heart as sweet as the candies she eats. Her solution to most problems is "here, have a candy bar!"

Personality: Named after what his parents were drinking while he was conceived. Could have been worse. He could have been named after where he was conceived. Try being called Office Party for the rest of your life.
Miller is prone to mood swings, and his feelings are easily hurt. He's a pretty sensitive kid.

Personality: Jeffrey (or Jeffers as he likes to be called) is one of those little a-hole kids who's always up to mischief. He loves to tell jokes and make others laugh, but sometimes the pranks he pulls go a bit too far. Though he isn't cruel at heart, he has yet to learn how to own up to some of his mistakes, and continues to use others as the butt of his jokes.

Personality: Liz shouldn't even be playing with these kids. Her parents tell her that they are beneath her... so she makes a point of sneaking out to play with them anyway. Headstrong and sharp as a tack, Lia is not afraid to get her hands dirty, and roughhouses with the best of them. She has her secrets, however, and she has an uncanny talent for leaving the group so quietly that few know how the blond-haired haughty girl they see in the courtyard of the mansion sometimes, taught by some of the finest tutors money can buy manages to get outside with the rest of them...
