Happy Holiderps! This is the Secret Santa ORP for wild pokemon only. n-n (Human/domestic pokemon secret santa ORP: [Here.])
Let's get them to know each other! You may join with as many wild pokemon (that you own) as you like. Having them bring a gift is optional.
When joining in, if you choose to join the IC secret santa, please post this form:
Pokemon name:
Gift brought:
What does it look like from the outside (wrapped)?:
Secret santa recipients will be randomized on the 17th, but any latecomers with gifts can exchange with each other!

It was that time of year again when the cold of winter finally settles in- bringing with it the long nights with their deep blue skies. There was a purity to the air, which came to life in its freshness. It may be the darkest season of the year, but in the forests of the Rinaul Mountains, the whole world appeared to shimmer brightly in the moonshine as everything had been coated with thick, fluffy snow.

In this clearing, however, the peace and quiet of winter was nowhere to be found- for a gathering of wild pokemon was taking place. Sprays of diamond dust were scattered in clouds as creatures of all sizes played in the snow, leaving trails and tunnels left and right. A group of Skiddo found delight chasing each other through the resulting labyrinth while skitties huddled against a sleeping arcanine for warmth. Pidoves and Fletchlings rode on the back of a piloswine as it shuffled leisurely across an ice rink, assisted by a squad of skating squirtles; one of them slipped, but quickly withdrew into his shell and spun away into a pile of snow. They all burst into laughter.

The most spectacular sight, of course, was at the center of the clearing; a colossal fir tree which rose proudly towards the heavens, its strong branches barely drooping under the weight of heavy snow. With a trunk so thick that it would take two serperior linking tails to surround it, it truly seemed as if it could support the sky itself. Ghost pokemon scaled it and played in its spiny leaves, making it look from afar as if the stars themselves had fallen and been caught in the tree's arms.

Back in the forest, a Bulbasaur was trudging patiently on the flattened snow left by other wild pokemon's passage through the forest. She always looked forwards to these sorts of events, though one never knew where they would be and when they would begin. Some pokemon would gather around a landmark and begin to play, others would join in and as the variety of pokemon increased, so would the variety of games and structures... sooner or later the bird and bug types will have carried the news of the celebration far and wide, attracting even more pokemon. At some point someone had decided there would be a gift exchange; willing participants only need bring something of their own finding or making, wrap it in... something, and add it to the pile under the tree. At the appointed time, they would take turns going up to the tree and picking something, without knowing what was inside.

When Mytheesaur arrived on scene, however, the sight of the massive fir tree struck her speechless. The grass type's eyes widened and sparkled in awe at its beauty. A few admirative moments later, she decided she really wanted to climb that tree. She took a step forward and... realized she was lighter than before.

"Bulba!" "Bulba bul!" She had dropped the leaf-wrapped gift she brought in the snow. It was no cause for worry, however, as there was a perfectly circular hole in the pristine white sheet where it had gone in- "PUFF-! PUFF-! PUFF-! PUFF-! PUFF-! PUFFPUFFPUFFPUFFPUFFpuff-!

"-...." Nevermind. A jigglypuff had just unleashed an incredible barrage of snowballs as she passed by, chasing an excited Growlithe; the entire area was now pockmarked. The bulbasaur slumped in exasperation. How long would it be till she can find it again...?

The pokemon near where Bell the delibird lived had all begun to make a fuss. Eventually she gathered that there was to be some sort of gathering and gift exchange nearby. Such things were annoying and unnecessary; she was considering whether she ought to beat everyone up to return the blessed silence to her territory.

Still, she had to admit that things had gotten a little lonely that winter. The snow and cold weather reminded her of her old life up in the mountains, before she had been caught and subsequently released by her trainer. It couldn't hurt to check the event out; if it was annoying, she could always leave again.

So she gathered a few of the precious berries that she'd been saving and wrapped them up in some leaves. It would have to suffice; at the very least, food was valuable to any wild pokemon during the harsh winter months.

When she finally made it to the clearing around the fir tree, she almost turned around. There was a snowball fight going on, with noisy strangers running every which way. She clicked her beak in annoyance; this was not an organized event at all. It was mayhem.

Still, she'd bothered to come all the way there, so she decided to give the gathering a chance. She waddled down toward the fir tree where she guessed she was supposed to leave her present. She passed by a disappointed-looking bulbasaur; her feathers ruffled in surprise. She hadn't expected any grass types to leave their shelters when it was so cold.

Pokemon name: Vesuvius
Gift brought: A lump of coal
What does it look like from the outside (wrapped)?: a white lump due to it being wrapped with bandages

Vesuvius wasn't happy. Not at all. After all he had part of his tail chopped off! CURSED HUMANS! He hissed to himself while looking at his tail. He hoped the humans who had caused this had thousands of years of bad luck.

As for why he was here at this gift exchange when he was so clearly not happy... well that was Melpomene's fault. She had talked the Vulpix in joining so she could join. What she didn't say was that the gift should be nice. So he was going all scrooge on the wild pokemon and giving them a lump of coal. After all if it ended up going to one of the pokemon near where he lived, they were naughty and deserved it. Since you know they didn't help him when he was in trouble. That put anyone on the naughty list in his book.

Pokemon name: Melpomene
Gift brought: A scarf and some berries
What does it look like from the outside (wrapped)?: It looks like a bright red and white scarf with lumpy parts. She totally wrapped the berries in the scarf. Who needs wrapping paper.

On the complete other end of the festive spirit spectrum was Melpomene. She loved this holiday, even if it brought about severe bouts of depression. She had gone shopping with Corbin (hiding in his shadow like she often does when she follows him around) and picked out the scarf. On her way here she found some berries and wrapped them up in the scarf. That should be a good gift.

Currently she was hiding in Vesuvius' shadow. She was too cautious to be out in the open even in the wilds. Never knew when those who hunted her might show up. She was glad that Corbin had saved Vesuvius (even if the Vulpix was a major grump). Since without him she wouldn't have been able to come to this. She peeked out of the shadow and spotted a couple of pokemon: a Bulbasaur and a Delibird.

Cecil the uniquely colored mudkip had heard about this event from several sources. At first the nearly blind mudkip was reluctant at first to leave his home of a small pond. He knew that place inside and out and he was comfortable there. Comfort was something he wasn't feeling now, everything around him was new and strange, which for someone like him was quite the off feeling.

The snow on his feet was cold and wet, and in a texture he hadn't felt before, it slightly intrigued him. He could hear other pokemon in the area, what they were doing he couldn't tell yet. Their figures appeared to grey scale blobs to him.

Being quite the antisocial little mudkip he was he avoided them, as much as he could as he traveled slowly through the area feeling his every step with great detail. He had no clue where he was suppose to put his gift; a shiny pebble wrapped in some seaweed from his pond.

Pokemon name: Salem
Gift brought: A Shiny bell.
What does it look like from the outside (wrapped)?: A rather pointy ornament.

Salem pranced through the gathered Pokemon, head held aloft as his fur sparkled. Though he gave off a holier than thou appearance, the Pokemon was really just trying to look over the crowd at all the assembled Pokemon.
Accompanying Salem was a rather sly looking Glameow. Yori gave a welcoming smile to each pokemon she passed, pausing at the sight of a young vulpix She then flicked her ear and bounced after Salem.

Mytheesaur swept the snow aside with multiple vine whips, but the effort was taxing. She soon found herself panting in exhaustion from the workout. After recovering her breath she turned around, hearing the sounds of other pokemon. Her heart stopped for a moment as she was confronted with the sight of a couple blood-drenched llooking tendrils slipping into a Vulpix's shadow- simply Melpomene's hair, although she did not know it. It must have been some ghost type's trick, she thought- there had been no screams (of pain or terror,) so nothing sinister had taken place.

Perhaps the vulpix would be able to help with her gift. After all, canine types were said to have a good sense of smell. He didn't look to be in such a good mood, but might as well try. Mytheesaur wasn't easily intimidated by such circumstances. As for how to tailor her approach, however, she wasn't so sure. Maybe telling him something weird went into his shadow would not be the right way to start asking for a favor. The Bulbasaur sidled up to the Vulpix, making sure not to step in his way, yet trying to establish eye contact. She voiced.

forgot to post this myself xD

Renekai

He was a nameless Nincada. Like most of those of his kind, he'd spent years living in the darkness- and expected to spend a few more, carving tunnels in the earth and feeding off the roots of a great tree until he reached the age and strength to emerge, reborn into the world as a Ninjask. The monotony of this life never really occurred to the bug type; after all, it was the way things had always been. Once in awhile a digglett or three would pass by and he'd invite them over to his den, where they might tell him stories about the world in exchange for sap candy. That's all they were to him- stories. Distant, inaccessible, none of his immediate concern.

But today was different. Something was definitely afoot. Tremulations coursed through the ground in every direction, disturbing the normally lax environment. There was some kind of excitement up above, and the Nincada was curiously drawn to it.

He crawled up to the surface of the dirt and poked his head out to peek. While his species did not benefit from particularly good eyesight (and are even said to be mostly blind), the blur of colors dancing right before his eyes was not lost to him. He palped the closest object with his whiskerlike antennae, and then the next, discovering through the vibrations that he had popped up in a pile of colorful packages of some kind- within each, another object was contained. These objects were interesting to him, who had never seen any such objects of craft and various origin.

Furthermore, all around him were the sounds of other pokemon, of every kind. He was not scared; after all, none of them were paying attention to him. It was cold, however. Deep enough underground, one does not feel the temperature change with the seasons. His tunnel was close by- at the slightest sign of danger, he could deliver a swift mud-slap in its general direction and crawl back into his hole.

If his curiosity didn't get the better of him, anyways. Someone deposited another object in the pile. The nameless Nincada looked up to the vaguely reddish pokemon, much larger than he for sure. He palped the air lightly in their direction as he spoke.

Vesuvius turned when he heard someone begin to speak. He had to stop himself from snapping and flaming the poor grass pokemon. Seeing the Bulbasaur slightly cooled his temper since she was obviously upset or something. "What?" He asked tilting his head. His present was on his back since he had yet to place down with the other gifts.

Maybe it was the look in his eyes, or the sound of his voice- but when Vesuvius turned around to face the Bulbasaur, she braced herself for a hot and searing attack. Luckily for both of them, this did not come to pass. Who knew what would happen if a battle erupted with so many other excited pokemon around... a small-scale war, perhaps?

She also finally noticed something she hadn't seen before, from the angle she had been. The vulpix was missing the end of one tail. It was wrapped in bandages, probably human handiwork... it must have been very painful. She snapped her attention right back to the Vulpix's face, careful enough not to show that she had noticed the brutal amputation. She'd heard before that some breeders cropped some of their pokemon for show... and without anaesthetic, to boot. It was surely a sore subject for all victims involved.

Mytheesaur got right to the point. She pointed one stubby leg at the somewhat lowered white surface.

Vesuvius noticed her finally seeing his amputated tail. His eyes narrowed, sure that words of sympathy would be spouted out at him. When none came his attitude changed slightly going from annoyed/wary to simply cautious. He sighed hearing her request. He could not refuse it. After all she had come to him for help and he was all about pokemon helping each other. He wasn't that bitter over his experience to not help her.

However..... "Do you think I'm a Growlithe or something?! Expecting me to sniff out your gift....." He declared with a shake of his head. He headed in the direction she had pointed and began to look around. It seemed pointless as there were too many smells and too many holes in the snow. With another sigh he looked down at his shadow. "Will you get out here and help?" He demanded while poking his shadow with a paw.

Melpomene rose from the shadow like some creature from a horror movie. Once fully out she hovered for a moment while looking around. She floated over the snow and poked a hand into one of the holes. She pulled it out revealing the vine wrapped present. "Is this it?" She floated back towards the Bulbasaur hoping to not spook her.

Mytheesaur's expression went blank at Vesuvius' words. Oops. Looks like not all canines do the tracking thing. Goes to show what she knows about other pokemon. Truly, she'd stuck around humans for too long. The bulbasaur made an apologetic grimace.

She wasn't going to just stand aside while the vulpix did all of the work; she looked around at the same time, digging uselessly at the nearest empty holes. That's when Vesuvius spoke to another pokemon, drawing the grass type's attention.

Mytheesaur's jaw dropped as the Darkrai rose out of the Vulpix's shadow like some blood-spattered phantom. Was this the amputee's amputator, or something? The bulbasaur dearly hoped that blood was only some kind of miraculously unfortunate marking, and not evidence of past crimes. She swallowed her fear, watching the ghostly dark type retrieve her gift with ease and extend a clawed hand toward her, holding it out. With a rigid smile the bulbasaur reached a vine out to take it, caught between gratitude, doubt and tremendous curiosity. Some other pokemon, having spotted Melpomene (whose entrance had made quite an impression) had yelped in fear, and many of those nearby had scattered to watch from a distance. This was a hell of an event, all right.

The Bulbasaur's voice cracked audibly when she spoke with the kind of feverish curiosity of a sudden burst of adrenaline coupled with a need to uh, clarify things. "THANK you so much. So you're uh, a Darkrai, huh. I've heard about you in um. Stories. I thought they were really- um- cool. Wow! I think that Pachirisu over there fainted. It's just so exciting for everyone to meet a legendary guardian of pokemon and sometimes humans, right?! Can I shake your hand?!" Totally smooth, Mytheesaur. They were going to think she'd gone bonkers for sure.

Melpomene recieved a... cocoon. Earlier, hearing the fearful cries of other pokemon and feeling the sudden fleet footed escapes of others through the vibrations coursing subtly to the giant fir tree, the blind bug, ignorant of the dangers of the surface, had promptly covered himself in a cocoon of string shot. He hoped that this cleverly disguised him amongst the variety of other packages, but not having known their purpose was ultimately to be opened, this was about to backfire.

"I don't really know," the delibird responded, clicking her beak in annoyance. "Some sort of gift exchange or something. Here, I guess." She picked up the gift she'd brought out of the pile and shoved it in the nincada's direction.

She found it somewhat amusing that her knowledge of current events was equivalent to someone who quite literally lived under the rocks. She wondered briefly whether she ought to try to socialize with other pokemon more, then remembered how much she hated other pokemon and thought better of it.

"You know," she mused, "This kind of reminds me of how humans celebrate winter. They also exchange gifts around this time of year. Why are wild pokemon pretending to be like them? I'll never understand it." She folded her wings grumpily, doing her best not to remember the gifts she'd given and received from her old trainer and teammates.

Melpomene didn't notice Mytheesaur's initial reaction as she had her back turned to her. However she did notice the rigid smile and made sure that the vine didn't touch her. Clearly the other pokemon wasn't comfortable with her around. No that wasn't it.... as the yelps of fear and stampede to get away proved. Nearly all the pokemon here were terrified of her. Her expression turned sad and she began to float back to Vesuvius' shadow.

"You're welcome.... no need to push yourself little Bulbasaur. No one really welcomes the bringer of nightmares. So sorry to ruin your fun event." She whispered for all to hear. She then went to disappear into the Vulpix's shadow however she was stopped. The Piloswine's call stopped her. She quickly left her gift by the tree and retreated. She'd take her present last.

Vesuvius shook his head seeing the reaction to Melpomene. If only everyone knew what she was really like they'd probably stop dropping like flies. "You're welcome. A pokemon should always help another one in need." He replied to Mytheesaur's earlier thanks. He snorted seeing how she rushed to speak with the Darkrai. "Okay okay. Break it up. Melpomene no one is banishing you or blaming you. Granted you could have picked a better way to appear. You... bulbasuar chill out."

The Piloswine trumpeted and cause the Vulpix to look around. He placed his gift with the others and took a random one for himself. He carefully opened the pointy thing to reveal a shiny bell. He stared at it for a moment wondering what the heck he would do with it. Probably give it to a younger pokemon later.

After waiting for all of the other gifts to be taken Melpomene made her way back to the tree. There she saw an odd package: a cocoon. She picked it up and carried it back to Vesuvius. "Strange gift." She murmured before opening it. She stared in shock when it revealed another pokemon. "I am sorry but I cannot accept? I'm.. uh.... flattered?" She spoke to the bug. She gently set him down on the ground and pushed him in the direction of the tree.
