Kadryn and Sueno were following Milan as he lead them out into the wilderness. They left their mounts, Gazini and Leirs, behind for Milan had told them that Sueno needed to be on foot to really learn how to track. Sueno, having never been on more than a camping trip with her parents, had gotten Kadryn and Milan to give her tips on what to bring. She was not strong enough to carry a huge pack all day like either one, so she had to be very efficient in her items and packing. Sueno was still a bit wary of Milan; he was a good two heads taller and heavily muscled in addition to his strange tail and bat like wings. He was friendly and very helpful… which left Sueno feeling off balance. Oblivinites were the people who’d been at war with hers forever! Why was he so nice? Or the other Oblivionites in the Tribe for that matter! They were all very hyper and loud; completely different than the dark brooding race she’d always pictured. Ma was right when she said don’t judge a person by the way they look! She thought as Milan stopped and knelt down for a second before beckoning her over.

“Here Sue,” He said using the nickname that she had definitely NOT said he could use; “These are what really old tracks look like. Some Rajsha passed by several days ago.” She obediently looked at the mess of half dried mud he pointed at.

“Looks like messed up mud.” She said frankly. “Ah dinna see tracks.”

He chuckled and pointed and outlined the so called tracks. “They are rather difficult to see! But then most will be. It rains a lot here, so you’ll mostly never see a clear track. See these?” He pointed to another patch. “A single spot is often all you’ll have to go by, but we’re lucky. There’s several Rajsha passing through here. And they left a bit more trace for us to follow.”

Kadryn piped up; “And you can always look for fur.” She was standing near a short stump a few feet in front of them. “Rajsha rub against rocks and trees to scent them and you can often find some fur that’s been rubbed off. I have a hard time with tracks, so I often have to find other ways to track them down.”

Sueno took a second look at the mud and tried to memorize it before following Milan over to Kadryn.
“Don’t worry about picking it up immediately.” He said with an encouraging smile. “It takes practice and a lot of time to learn how to read the land around you as easily as I do.”

“Mmmm… Ah’m gonna be out here fer more than this winter aren’t Ah?”

He nodded and motioned for them to move on. “Yup! To really learn to read tracks it’ll be at least a year… But if you are only wanting to learn about them to better understand how to tame and train them and maybe hire others to capture them then you should be okay. Though you should stay here for more than winter since there’s more than just Rajsha here!”

Kadryn chuckled. “You looking for a real job Milan?”

“Maybe.” He said with a grin; “or maybe I just want an excuse to go hunting and meet up with a pretty girl.”

Sueno frowned at them. “We’re here to try catching a Rajsha, not chat! Move along.” This whole Wild Tribe was full of people who did not act right! Was he hitting on her? She wasn’t interested in Oblivionites! Even if she was, she would not give up her farm and dream just for love!
They chuckled and Milan got back to tracking, always pointing out signs of animals and plants that were edible. Sueno soon came to realize that he was trying to teach her more than just how to track and hunt; he was giving her a quick lesson is how to survive out here!
She wasn’t able to even see what he said were tracks until finally they found some fresh tracks; those she could tell!

They followed the tracks until Milan motioned them to stop. He pulled out a small thin tube ad grinned before bending to whisper softly in Sueno’s ear.
“Tricks I’ve learned; if you don’t have time to set a trap; put them to sleep with poison.”

She gave him a shocked look that quickly turned to agreement as she realized what he meant. Putting them to sleep would b e a lot easier than using traps! Also a lot less stressful on the animal! I shall have to get him to teach me to use this new tool and where to get the poisons.

Milan offered the pipe to Kadryn with a raised eyebrow; did she want to try it?
Kadryn grinned and accepted. Kirosh had showed her how to make them... though she and the boys really used it more for blunted dart games not hunting.
With a quick puff of air the dart whistled over to lodge itself in the young Rajsha’s hindquarters. It gave a startled yip and turned to look behind it. Growling at the interruption to its meal it turned back.

It was only a little while before it yawned and started to nod off. Staggering over to a cave it vanished.

“Wait a bit, then we’ll go in. Gotta give it time to fully fall asleep.” Milan said when it had vanished.

Kadryn shifted impatiently while Sueno sat calmly watching the mists weave and twist in the light breeze that blew towards them. Farming required patience; she’d learned long ago to wait and not shift about impatiently. Learning to deal with Hastars had only strengthened this as they could sense one’s impatience and got shifty themselves.

After a good five minutes Milan stood up and stretched.
“That’s long enough.”

“Are there others about?” Sueno asked, “It’s a cave… so there could be more?”

“Nah,” Kadryn answered her with a quick grin. “If they were they’d have been eating with it!”

“Also no tracks other than this one. Probably a young male just leaving his pride to go search for another.” Milan said as he ghosted down the slope on his large wings. Kadryn followed and Sueno sighed; she’d have to show her wings… Not that she didn’t like them! Oh she did, it was just… they were so small compared to their larger ones! Muttering to herself, she flew down after them; her small wings buzzing as they beat fast like a hummingbirds. Milan gave her a startled look and smirked.
“Not a word.” Sueno said with a glare.

“They’re--”

“Ah said: not a word Milan.”

“Aren’t--?”

“Shush!”

“What’s the issue?” Kadryn asked, “They’re really cute and colorful!”

Sueno glared at her. “So says the one with big an elegant wings!”

“Oh come on now, Sueno. Everyone has different types of bodies and wings! Nothing wrong with yours, I like them.”

Sueno sighed and looked at the small colorful teal and orange wings that flittered about on her back. “But Ah don’t fly.. Ah buzz…”

Milan, having been told to shush, was studiously ignoring the girls as he walked into the cave.
“Even an Oblivionite’s got better wings’n me.” Sueno muttered as she followed them in. Shaking her small jealous thoughts away she concentrated on the task at hand.
How was she going to tame it?

“Ye think it’d be better tah stay out here in the wild with it?” Sueno asked as they looked around the cave. “Takin’ it back tah camp would just make it more stressed….”

“True,” Kadryn said, “But out here it far more dangerous. And won’t the sight of freedom so close make it stressed to?”

“Maybe, but Ah was thinkin’ the people would be worse. Ye think the Tribe will stay away and not try tah pet it?”

Milan laughed at that. “Yeah… no. A rajsha in camp would be something they’d all want to pet… Or own for that matter.”

“Iffn this works out, maybe Ah can get a few more’n give them to the Tribe as thanks fer helping.”

“Me too?” Milan as he bat his eyelashes at her.

“Ye can get yer own.” Sueno said tartly as she looked around the cave. It was a bit too dirty and she did not think it would be a good place to stay.
“Ye know of any caves nearby we can stay in? One with a second chamber fer the rajsha?”

“I do,” Kadryn said; “It’s not too far away either.”

Milan sighed. “So cruel…. I’m going to have to carry it aren’t I?”

“Of course!” Both the females said with smirks as they left the cave.
As they flew to the cave, Milan grumbling about the weight and smell of the best, Sueno and Kadryn talked about what they would do to get it calmed and tamed.

“Let’s see if the cookie helps.” Sueno said. “Leirs liked it and he’s a carnivore so maybe the rajsha will like it! Ah use my magic to calm them down somewhat so keeping it cam shouldn’t be an issue… it’s getting it tamed and to recognize our dominance that’ll be difficult.”

“How do you normally establish dominance?” Kadryn asked curiously.

“Well, never show fear is the big one. Another is too make sure it knows you are a source of food not food itself. If it bites you, hit it on the nose cause that’s a sensitive part. Reward good behavior with treats. Oh, and dinna let it jump on you; that makes you the ”

“Sounds a lot like what the trainer in the desert tribe on Eowyn does.”

After landing, Sueno used her spells from the plant tome to make a cage across the smaller cave’s entrance that she reinforced with her light magic to ensure it stayed put. They spent a good week in that cave; keeping the animal calm through magic and food, letting it out to explore the larger cave at times, and eventually it stopped hissing at them when they tried to talk to it.
Kadryn and Milan did get bored at times and left to go hunting; coming back bearing food the rajsha would always make a small sad sound. It broke Sueno’s heart to keep him trapped like this, but she needed to tame him!


It was a happy day when she let him out and he didn’t attack her at all, just came over to sniff then eat the food she offered. Now, she thought, to try and train him! After I let him out on a leash to go and run around!

She alerted both Kadryn and Milan to her plan; let him go and hunt his own food. Or at least run around; She wanted them to try and “take him on a walk” so to speak. See if he would stick with them and not run away. She felt that Impisi, as she called him, would stay with them but needed to make sure. Otherwise there’d be more time stuck in the cave with him.

“Impisi,” She called out as she let down the vines. “Come.” Simple words; that was the key! Use a single word for a command and then reward when they followed. He sauntered out and stopped when he saw the open cave entrance. His ears twitches and he started to make a move over there when Sueno called his name again and pointed to in front of here.
“Come.” She held one of those really tasty strips of food he adored…. Slinking over he came to stand right by Sueno, though his eye kept going to the entrance.

“Good boy.” Sueno chirped as she fed him and scratched his head.

Kadryn and Milan both walked to the entrance and Sueno followed, “Come along.” She said as she paused and waited at the cave entrance for him. If he bolts now, then I haven’t made him think of us as part of his pride, Sueno thought. And that means I need to find another or try to capture him again… She smiled and gave him another head scratch when he simply walked and waited at her side. Success!

“So how far are we going to walk?” Milan asked.

“Ah was thinking of running actually.” Sueno said. “Let Impisi get a good run in since he’s been in the cave fer a week. Ye two want tah keep an eye overhead while Ah stay on the ground with him?”

“Works for me!” Kadryn said as she leaped into the air. Milan hesitated before following.

“Let’s hunt.” Sueno said to the rajsha before trotting off and looking back at him, motioning for him to follow.
It gave an eager growl and launched off, moving with such speed and grace Sueno was stunned for a second. She had to fly to keep up with him; as Impisi found footholds along the sides of tall spired and cliff walls that she couldn’t even spot. He ran, mostly to burn off energy until he finally stopped, panting happily, to look up at Sueno as she landed next to him.
“Did you need that?” She asked with a grin as she pulled out the brush she used for cleaning him. He gave a happy growl and lay down so Sueno could easily brush him.

“Well, guess that proves he thinks of you as a pack member.” Milan said as he landed nearby. “So what now?”

“Now Ah get tah teach him how tah guard and aide inna hunt. Or at least bring food back iffn he hunts! Ah know that pack animals share kills, but will he share with me is the question. Training hastar to guard will probably be very similar… right?”

“Should be,” Kadryn said as she joined them. “Are you going to train him to be a mount?”

Sueno thought for a moment and shook her head. “Not right now. He’s too young and needs more muscle on him afore Ah try that. Maybe Ah’ll train him later after Ah get him used tah my Gazini. Ye think he’ll try to eat him?”

Milan snorted; “Definitely! Hastar are one of the larger herd animal out here, so the Rajsha prides hunt them often. Difficult to catch, but the Rajsha are built for it.”

“Then Ah’ll have to teach him that Gazini is part of the pride.” Sueno said. Bribes.. and keeping Impisi so well fed that he didn’t try to go for something that would fight back.
