Out on the hot Sands there are - or will be - two lonely dragons seeking their other half. Could you be their perfect partner?
What's going on? - We are looking for riders for these two pre-made dragons. - One was written specifically for this contest, the other we couldn't find a match for that we were completely happy with. - You can enter with an existing candidate or with a new concept. - If you enter with an existing candidate who we have already matched to one of the other clutch dragons precedence will be given to that match over your entry.
How will this work? - Just fill out the form below. Essentially we are looking for a bullet point personality - and history if you so desire - and a 'Why Me' section. - You may play new concepts you create for this contest in the Hatching but to play them in any RP beyond this they will have to go through the standard character application procedure regardless of whether or not they win. - This contest will be open until Saturday 1st November at 18:00GMT - You can edit as much as you like up until the end of the contest. - Post entries here in this thread please. - You can enter as many times as you like for both dragons. - You can only win one of the dragons. - EDIT: Winners will be revealed during the Hatching itself, as will which eggs the dragons come out of!
What are you judging on? - We are judging on an interesting sounding personality and a good match. The pair can be very similar, or very different but compliment one another well. It's up to you which route to take and as you can enter more than once you can have a stab at multiple ideas if you want to. - We're not looking for a full personality from new character concepts at this stage, though you can write a full one out if you wish. - We're not asking for a history at this stage but again you may include a partial or complete history if you like or if it's very important to their personality or the match for some reason. - We would like the 'why me' section written in full paragraph form as opposed to bullet points. It should be at least a reasonable sized paragraph long but can be longer if you have a lot to say. Don't feel you have to write an essay however! Quality is what we're looking for rather than quantity.
So what are we entering for then? - Blue Leszyth
Size: Above Average Build: Below Average Personality: Leszyth cultivates a harmless and innocent appearance, but with this dragon, appearances are can be deceiving. He enjoys outsmarting others with clever tricks, but he is also intelligent enough not to get too clever; he is well aware that less is usually more, and isn't one to overthink or overcomplicate his mischief, nor does he draw it out unnecessarily. While those subjected to his tricks may or may not find them amusing during or after the fact, actual cruelty is incredibly rare from Leszyth, and reserved for those who have wronged him or someone close to him in some way.
Don't be too quick to write his off as a mere trickster, however; as irritating as his games can be, there is more to him than playing tricks and having a good laugh. He really does enjoy the company of others - even if it is sometimes at their expense - and is a loyal friend to those who take the time to get to know him beyond his playful antics. For the sake of his friends, Leszyth can be serious when the need arises: deadly serious, if it comes to it. He will protect his loved ones and home at any cost.
Home is incredibly important to Leszyth, and the attachment he forms to places is every bit as vital to him as his attachment to people. His rider had better like Benden, because getting this blue to leave it permanently will be nearly impossible. If he had his way, he would never leave ever, for any reason, and in his first turn or two is likely to throw a tantrum if made to so much as go on a day-trip, but if his rider is firm or convincing enough, he will get better at taking trips away. Even then, if an outing drags on for too long, he will mope and complain and generally make himself a nuisance until it's time to return home. Though Benden and the surrounding area as a whole are important to him, he will find specific places that he likes best of all, where he will go when he wants to be alone or feel especially safe. The truest sign of his affections is to be invited to share one of these special places, but if someone intrudes uninvited, he will attempt to chase them away.
Leszyth enjoys the simple company of whers and flits, and of any beast that will accept his presence. In fact, he will be rather disappointed that most animals are not fond of the company of a dragon, but that won't stop him from trying. He has a peculiar knack for imitating some of the sounds of other beasts, and with observation and practice could become rather good at it, within reason.
- Black Tikth
Size: Below Average Build: Slim
Personality: Lurking and observing is perhaps the first and foremost thing one should know about Tikth. You see, this dark individual is comfortable in small spaces or out of sight but he always likes to keep others in his sight. He’s not necessarily a gossip, but he does like making sure no one is crossing his moral lines. Being more of a nocturnal individual, his colour lends itself well to this and while he is young, this tendency to lurk will play out in great delight at scaring people or dragons with his seeming ability to appear and disappear from places no sane dragon would Between to. Indeed, a Black’s innate skill at Between and his love of lurking may earn this one much infamy regardless of whether his skills are turned to useful pursuits or not.
If it wasn’t already apparent, Tikth is a playful individual at heart, enjoying the challenge of hide-and-go-seek with a passion that’s difficult to match. His enthusiasm is infectious and he often vocalizes with draconic laughter and shouts, quick to master the use of echoes and thrown voices to mislead his ‘prey’. Beware of angering this black, however. He may not be large or particularly strong for a dragon but his speed and spatial awareness give him an edge in combat no restricted to open areas. He’ll heckle, manipulate, mislead, and otherwise confuse the offending individual until he or she is horribly lost or exhausted from the onslaught.
Despite his trickery and inability to ease up, Tikth has one close-guarded secret, that he and His will know. That secret is that as much as Tikth adores causing trouble and running circles around people, he is always willing to stop IF they answer three of his riddles right, and only if. When someone does, and he doesn’t make it apparent getting him to stop is that simple, he’ll concede defeat and reveal himself, no less enthusiastic then before. An odd way to make friends, perhaps, but Tikth does so love his challenges.
As far as the Wherholds go, his is loyal to the notion of equality but whether the way Keller is going about it suits his concept of ‘good’ is another matter. Always willing to work towards guarding what he sees at right, Tikth’s tendency to work for the good could end up a powerful force for OR against the Wherholds and their methods. While this black may enjoy manipulating others, he is not immune to it either.
One last note on Tikth, he has an inexplicable love for rain on sunny days. He doesn’t know why but the mystery and refreshing experience of such events draw him like bees to honey.

Which dragon are you entering for?: Black Tikth Character name: Lesex Character gender: Male Link to profile if pre-existing: N/A Personality bullet points if new concept:
> High spirited, Lex as he goes by, is ready for the next big adventure. He’s bold, brimming with energy and enthusiasm.
> Disinhibition, the little voice that tells people not to do something just doesn’t seem to be working. He is impulsive, cheerfully doing things on whim and is rather poor at assessing any sort of risk.
> Self-confident, Lex has an overwhelming amount of self-esteem. His outlook is positive, mood cherry, and just absolutely sure that things are going to go right. Lex is the type of person that would throw themselves off a bridge and be absolutely sure they were not only going to hit water, but also come out unscathed.
> Extravert, Lex loves a party, really who doesn’t? He thrives around human contact, is at home on a dance floor or in any crowded city. He certainly isn’t shy in asking someone to dance, regardless of any gaps in social class.
>Hedonistic, Lex is self-indulgent, seeking good times and getting the maximum enjoyment out of what he does.
Why me?: Lex will find a solid partner in Tikth, a wing man to watch his back and to see the larger whole picture as Lex works within. Lex can certainly keep up with Tikth playful energy and love of rain and sunshine. It is certainly a day to go tramping about in puddles and very much enjoy themselves. Lex one hundred percent is going to support the blacks skill at betweening and certainly isn’t going to pause about throwing himself into helping Tikth lurk and scare the crap out of people.
Lex might not have the same moral views at Tikth, it might be better off to say that Lex is vastly amoral and relatively living in a rather heft grey area, but Lex is a match for Tikth enthusiasm and energy, a warm over flowing support and excitability. While he watches, Lex is in the middle, networking and can be an absolute force of change, if focused. Together, Tikth believes they can be a major force to be reckoned with.
Which dragon are you entering for?: Blue leszyth Character name: Heill Character gender: Male b]Link to profile if pre-existing: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=23884595 Why me?: I think that leszyth and Heill would be good partners for each other, despite Heill's young age. Both like tricks and have a deep apprieciation for family and home. Heill is looking for something he wants to do for the rest of his life and leszyth will give him a purpose.

I may as well go for it. Could be worth a shot.
Which dragon are you entering for?: Black Tikth Character name: Kalendol Character gender: Female Link to profile if pre-existing:link Personality bullet points if new concept: (You can also put in history if you wish) Why me?: » Kalendol is indeed in love with challenges, and will find great joy and amusement in Tikth. She doesn't mind his lurking personality, and will often enjoy watching the surprise and other emotions from others. She is bound and determined to do what she feels is right and will certainly enjoy little challenges with Tikth. Kalendol will enjoy Tikth's joy for the good, and will find that the pairing is perfect in the long run. They'll probably see eye to eye, on it.
If more information is needed, her recently edited profile would be the best stop.
Which dragon are you entering for?: Tikth Character name: Lucayr ("Lu-kai-yer"), Journeyman harper and witty lyricist Character gender: Male Link to profile if pre-existing: Personality bullet points if new concept:
Sociable - Very, very sociable. He is a nice chap, but it’s often hard to tell because he’s the kind of fellow who insults everyone he likes. Those who’ve gotten close to him know that it’s a language of love… and an art form. Chic - An entertainer as well as an educator, Lucayr knows the allure of a great outfit. He prefers colorful clothes and scarves and is usually wearing some sort of hat. Independent - Lucayr has a mind of his own, regardless of what mollifying drabble comes from his mouth in the presence of danger or discord. Discreet, duplicitous, and devious - He feigns being an open book, but he hides much of his true thoughts and intentions. Harpers aren't just musical tutors -- they are diplomats and, in some cases, spies and social architects. Lucayr is no exception. Critical and satirical - When offended, which he is fairly often, if he chooses to speak out he will criticisze quietly, masking such words as compliments. Many of these incidents, whether tackled, talked over, or tabled, will be immortalized in a farcical ditty to be sung at the next raucous gathering -- with names and places changed to protect the messenger, of course.
Why me?: Riddle me this: What do a harper and a dragon have in common? I'll give you a hint -- it certainly isn't music. For Tikth and Lucayr, a common thread between them is words. The dragon is a clever riddle-maker, while the harper is a writer of humorous, brassy, and often politically-charged songs. Both creative pastimes require a good deal of wit, of which the pair has plenty and to spare, but don't ask one to try the talent of the other, or you'll end up with painful knock-knock jokes and tuneless rhymes concerning the proper method of disembowling wherries.
Let's be frank. Lucayr seriously needs some encouragement... that or a sound kick in the pants. He's gotten himself so discouraged over politics that he's beginning to turn into a first class pessimist. A hearty laugh now and then would lift a lot of rain clouds, and then Tikth would have some of his favorite weather for a while. So you can imagine Tikth will be trying to wrest a chortle from his partner at every opportunity -- and precious few things are as contagious and inspiring as dragon laughter.
In return for the bolstering-up that he so needs in the days ahead, Lucayr will be an enthusiastic abettor of his dragon's penchant for toying with people. Not only is it useful for keeping someone busy or to confuse a pursuer - it's also just plain FUN to mess with people. And who better to do it with than your best friend? That being said, when an innocent entangled in one of Tikth's games has had enough, Lucayr will be the one to gently remind Tikth not to torture his poor victim.
As a journeyman harper, dedicated to teaching and dispensing wise counsel on the welfare of Pern and its people, Lucayr has always thought himself to be progressive. He was right on board with Keller's new ideas on equal opportunity for all, but like Tikth, he is starting to see hypocrisy and superfluous brutality that he'd rather do without. He's had to forego penning some of the most scathing, cathartical pieces he's ever composed to stay under the notice of too-numerous informers and too-paranoid leaders. Obviously, people aren't exactly encouraged to express their dissent in the Wherholds, but no one can know the true loyalties of a rider and his dragon when they are playing at intrigue in the privacy of their minds, or blending with nebulous shadows in a dark alcove reached by a discreet betweening, watching... listening...

Which dragon are you entering for?: Blue Leszyth Character name: Ceirrys Character gender: Male Link to profile if pre-existing: n/a Personality bullet points if new concept:
-Energetic and stubborn at 16 turns; he is certainly the rambunctious teenager -Brazen; he was somewhat indulged as a youngest son and is quite self-confident -Mischievous; from simple pranks to elaborate plans, Ceirrys loves the gratification of a successfully executed scheme -Loyal to his family; having come from a tightly-knit immediate family, he feels tied to Benden for its proximity to Bitra Hold
Some preliminary background/personality:
Ceirrys came from a minor hold tithing to Bitra Hold. His father, Aneirin, was a second cousin of the Holder, putting him in the tumultuous position of representing a family name while having no hopes for achieving a position of prominence within the hold. He developed a “devil-may-care” attitude as he grew older, such that when he became enamored with Carrys, the young journeywoman harper brought to the hold to instruct the Holder’s grandchildren, he married her without the consent of his family. The whole ordeal became quite a scandal for the small hold, and by the time Ceirry’s eldest sister was born, his parents were treated very much like a stain on a much-prided tapestry, to be covered up and frowned upon. His immediate family stuck close to one another and formed a tightly knit group of seven; he grew up as the youngest son among four siblings: Carwyn, six turns older than himself, Caerin his sister three turns older than himself, Aneirrys-his older brother by two turns, and his younger sister by four turns, Anwyn.
As he aged, Ceirrys and his siblings were met with reproachful gazes and snide comments from their extended family. He watched as his eldest sister, Carwyn, was filled with disdain for the entitled attitudes and pompous presumptions of their relatives. She remained strong in the face of this treatment- growing ever resilient and confrontational, all the while setting an example for her younger siblings, “you do not have to accept their judgement of your worth, who are they to pass such judgement?”. Ceirrys took this lesson to heart and dealt with his extended family flippantly; he cared not for their opinions and felt fulfilled enough as the doted upon “baby brother”. This particular position came with laxer expectations and less direct supervision, he often found himself gleefully playing tricks on those age-mates that continuously picked on himself or his siblings after Carwyn left to pursue harpercraft (to get in direct, physical confrontations would simply be unacceptable by his mother’s standards). Ceirrys was always careful at hiding his gloating smile in the wake of fuming relatives, careful to make mischief that could in no way be directly traced back to him. He became increasingly referred to as an “impudent child” and was happy to be searched at the age of twelve turns when Carwyn impressed Alaiath at Benden.
Ceirrys was glad to have Carwyn with him at Benden, while enjoying the mantle of a candidate, he was still used to being the kid-brother and relieved to once again have his eldest sister nearby. Candidacy has done little to temper his mischief-making, although now his pranks have become more light-hearted and done for the joy of executing a plan without getting caught rather than as a retort to mockery and snide comments. The last turn has proven to be a tumultuous chapter in his time as a candidate at Benden- staying when the revolution swept through its halls, disappointed by Carwyn’s decision to leave Benden, angered by the destruction of the wher clutch by dragonrider loyalists, and distressed by the poisoning of Malvern’s food supply-knowing that his sister had been affected and distraught by the physical distance between them. Family means everything to Ceirrys, and he will do everything within his power to defend them.
Why me?: Leszyth and Ceirrys are two peas in a pod, sharing a love of mischief and steadfast loyalty to those they hold dear. Home is where the heart is, and Ceirrys’s heart lies with his family; he has no plans for leaving Benden and would be loathe to part from its environs for any extended period of time at this point in his life. Ceirrys has a lot of growing to do as he transitions from life as a rambunctious candidate, to a weyrling responsible for someone other than himself for a change, and eventually to a revolutionist wingrider.
Which dragon are you entering for?: Blue Lezyth Character name: Emmitod Character gender: Male Link to profile if pre-existing:X Personality bullet points if new concept: --- Why me?: They're both a little too clever for their own good (though it seems Lez is a bit more careful).
The fact that Lez has morals would definitely make up for a lack on Emmit's part.
Emmit's lack of attachments could be a problem, but that leaves room for Lezyth to make Emmit's mind one of his special places, and Emmit can take on a bit of Lez's color, in a sense.
At the same time, a partnership between the two would reveal the world to be just a game, a game they rule. Emmit's view of himself as the center of the universe will likely not expand to include his dragon, should they bond, but it may well be another game to Lez to play with Emmit's ego and see how far he can go while messing with his arrogance.
No, the two are not a match made in Pernese heaven, but they have the potential to play off of each other nicely...

Which dragon are you entering for?: Black Tikth Character name: Emmitod Character gender: Male Link to profile if pre-existing:X Personality bullet points if new concept: --- Why me?:
Emmitod has no moral compass – he is the center of the universe. If bonded, Tikth would find that he alone cares about such things as 'right' and 'wrong'.
But maybe that won't be a problem, since both find the world to be an infinitely fascinating game, and see other people as pieces in it. Emmitod would be all too willing to aid Tikth in the black's games. Although he normally considers himself a passive observer, a more active role suits him fine.
They share an appreciation for the strange, interesting, and mysterious, and both are keen manipulators of others. They could easily appreciate each other.
In his belief that reality is but a toy or dream, it would not be hard for Emmitod to percieve a dragon like Tikth as being an extension of his Id and Ego... thus him, thus the center of the universe. He would connive and conspire with the dragon for the best tricks and manipulations. As for riddles... the concept would be delightful for Emmitod. He's never tried to come up with riddles before, but such a task, laid before him, would invigorate his mind. He would make up some of the keenest riddles Pern has ever seen, and his dragon would never have to stop his trickery.
Emmitod himself is not immune to manipulation, and though he could manipulate his dragon, so too can the dragon manipulate him. He could be guided or encouraged to moral decisions, or turned away from an immoral act. They could easily play with each other in the great game of life, and, together, they are not likely to be bored.
Which dragon are you entering for?: Leszyth Character name: Mazaah Character gender: Female Link to profile if pre-existing: NA Personality bullet points if new concept:
Personality:
> Cocky: Maz is confident in herself in a positive sense: she doesn't second guess herself often. However, she runs to the extreme and can frequently be overconfident, taking risks she probably shouldn't. > Inconsiderate: Maz thinks about herself first and forgets that other people's interests matter too. If she thought it was a problem – which she doesn't – she would blame it on her highly competitive family, her brothers, her sisters, the whers... anything but herself. > Dissociative: Which brings us to this. Nothing is ever her fault. She's so confident in herself that she can do no wrong. Even when she did it, she didn't, and no amount of scolding will change that. > Independent: Like a feline, Maz does as she pleases, when she pleases. Her father is sure she got it from her mother. Her mother is sure she got it from her. Her mother's wher thinks that clearly she got it from her. It's possible that discipline will bring this down to a managable level, but for the time being her age is overriding that. >Stubborn: More an extension of her independence and confidence, it's not actually as bad as one might think (or as bad as some of the other candidates.) She's simply so sure of herself that she doesn't see the point of backing down when she's clearly right. Surprisingly, though, she's not going to get in someone's face about it. She usually doesn't take it so far that she gets into fights or gets seriously disciplined, and is willing to back down and 'agree to disagree' and leave it at that. >Dedicated: An offshoot of stubborn. When she decides to do something, she doesn't half a** it. She's a quitter, sure: She has switched ideas and occupations a lot, but only after she took it as far as she could stand it. >Friendly: Maz values people, and pretty generally wants them to like her. So, she's usually nice... not much more to it. Her people skills are not bad, and she's willing to make compromises and help out if it will get someone to like her. >Proud: An offshoot of her confidence, Maz is very happy with herself, her heritage, and who she is. She sees no need to change herself. >Motivated: An offshoot of dedicated. Maz has inner energy that she puts to use doing things. >Sly: Maz can be tricky when she wants to be. Though she's not exactly manipulative or mischievous, she does like to come out on top, and – though she's not completely by hook or by crook – she might do just a little crook-ing to get her way. A little bit.
History > Second daughter of a proud, Wherhandler family, that had raised and trained whers for generations. > Happy participants in the Revolution, Very much for the cause, huge supporters of Keller > Mazaah was a rebellious teen and, being a rebellious teen, decided to – in her rebelliousness – reject her family tradition. > Did a few odds and ends, trying one thing than another – your typical indecisive teen. > Heard about the clutch, decided that she wanted to try being a candidate next. > Parents initially wouldn't let her, but they came to an ultimatum: she can stand for this clutch, but if she doesn't impress, she comes back to the fold and trains to handle whers > She was at the latter stages of rebellious teenagehood so she agreed. She's pretty sure she'll impress, though.
Notes: > She's actually a Malvren candidate, and is one of the people that get themselves brought in for clutch-y stuff. > She's actually a pretty good student, despite her negative traits. She does what she wants, and this is – for now – what she wants, so she is shaffing well doing it. No fights, decent to good marks on her schooling... not exactly a model candidate, but not a bad egg, either > She's tough stuff, but she kinda has to be, in a strong like hers. While not at everybody's throats, if she gets into a fight, she has enough strength and stamina to hold her own. > Being from a wherhandling family line, she knows whers. > She's more proud of her family than she lets on. Since there's a hereditary link to how well people bond to whers, she's pretty sure that clearly her family must be pretty badass. Not that she's going to rub it in anybody's face: she's still sort of fighting with them, after all.
Why me?:
Mazaah is not a trickster, but she can tolerate one with ease and would definitely find the blue amusing. Her pride in her family can easily morph – through natural maturation – into deep loyalty towards them, and a dragon like Leszyth can help it along.
Maz is not typically serious, but when s**t hits the fan, she can pull herself together, and take things seriously. Nor is she cruel, a trait she shares with the blue.
Her family's affinity for whers means that there will be access to a good number of the beasts, and her confidence will enable him to prank more people.
They are not a perfect match, but their imperfections do not interfere with each other, and they are more compatable than some human couples..
