        Name: Forrest Q. Blair
        Age: 9
        Gender: male
        Powers: umbrakinesis
Aura: BLACKBERRY PIE (purple), BLOOD ORANGE (red-orange), low frequency with occasionally high spikes (when he's worried or sad or lonely), usually very close to his body with a larger aura emanating from around his head.

        Appearance:

        []

Forrest has dark, charcoal hair, that's wavy and well-kept (though usually hidden by his father's hat). His cheeks are rosy-grey in hue and his reddened nose is topped by big & buggy, whited out eyes. His large ears are red-tipped, his small mouth puckered. He has knobby knees and elbows, a big head prone to catching itself against low tree branches. His posture is perfect, though he's shorter than average, and his movements are those of an introvert. His feet are always shuffling, his hands wringing and tugging at his clothes; despite this, however, he never- ever- breaks eye contact.

His voice is high-pitched and airy, he's got a British accent; though it's a bit influenced by his grandmother's heavy Welsh.

        Personality:

        Forrest's Defining Characteristics
        + humble
        + trustworthy
        + loyal
        + hardworking
        + motivated
        ± soft-spoken
        ± adventurous
        ± curious
        - nervous (socially)
        - unsure (socially)
        - disobedient
        - fearless (reckless)
        - self-isolated

Forrest is, first and foremost, a very independent young lad. He tends to prefer solitude over having to interact with his peers, and will be quite nervous around others- resulting in mild stuttering, random voice pitches, and general uneasiness. This independence does take a bit of a negative turn, though, in that his obedience is one that only belongs to him. Authoritative figures often find it difficult to reel the little wanderer in, and will find it hard to tell him something that he has no interest in listening to. He's a dreamer, prone to drifting away from lectures and often ignoring rules that he doesn't particularly agree with. Not in a rebellious way, but in a quiet almost indiscreet one. Should he be caught in the act, he will apologize; but it's doubtful that he won't do it again.

Due to a history of bullying, he also finds it quite hard to trust in people and will often harbor a sense of wariness towards strangers- especially ones with an already prominent mean streak. Once someone has proven themselves genuine, however, Forrest will be a loyal friend. He'll go out of his way to aid them in whatever it is they need help with, and, though will still be quite nervous when holding conversation; his fidgeting will be considerably less. When with friends, he enjoys sharing information he has learned and pulling them around to show them whatever discoveries he has made during his adventuring. He'll find it hard to ask them for help, though, and will often have to be nudged repeatedly in order to get him to open up about whatever it is he's feeling. If he's scorned or confronted or even bullied, he will avoid further interaction at all costs and only duck his head and bear it. His non-violent nature stops him from furthering the confrontation, though he doesn't hesitate to jump into the line of fire for a friend.

Thanks to his grandmother's very positive influence, Forrest is hardworking and easily motivated. If he fails once, twice, even three times; he will continue to try and try again. He has a very stubborn mindset, rarely allowing himself to give up on a task once it's begun, and can- in general- usually provide near perfect results so long as he's been given a couple chances at it. His tasks can sometimes prove to be quite dangerous- and his fearlessness often shines through during these times, but the line between fearless and reckless is quite thin for the boy. He'll often be carrying around with him various bumps and bruises to showcase his fumbles, and- even at such a young age- has broken more bones than he can count.

Overall, Forrest Blair is a good kid that's picked up a few emotional bruises along the way. His innermost feelings are huddled together within the glass case that is his heart, and it's rare for him to let anyone near it. He's great at doing things, but not so great at people. A fearless adventurer and loyal friend.

        Biography:

A smiling, somewhat quirky woman that enjoyed writing fantasy novels; though rarely finished them.

        Augustine Q. Blair
        father, deceased

A quiet, kind man that could go on for decades about insects; very outdoorsy.

        Eilidh Blair née Patton
        grandmother, legal guardian
        retired nurse

A strong, opinionated woman that prides herself on being able to take good care of others.

        Gregor Q. Blair
        grandfather, legal guardian
        retired war veteran

A mysterious man that rarely leaves his "office".

Forrest was born and raised in a small village called Bloodsworth. A quaint little place at the very borders of England; its closest neighbor being Wales. His mother, an American woman that had met his father- a U.K. native- while studying abroad, was a kind and quirky young lady. His father was a hardworking, yet gentle soul. Together, they were loving parents that gave to their son as much as they could in the unknowingly short time they were with him. Though never without their oddities, they raised their child to the best of their abilities. His mother read to him each night, his father took time out of each day to go on hikes with his favorite little man, and there was always the occasional treat or two to look forward to; courtesy of his grandmother, who lived only a few houses away from the home in which Forrest was raised.

His parents' death sparked an entirely new life for him, though he was only 6 at the time of their car accident. After their funeral, he became someone different- a bit more withdrawn, a bit less adventurous. He'd hole himself up in whatever dark corner he could find and sit there, vacant, for hours on end. The size of his depression was great, for one so small. It is there, in those lightless corners, that he first discovers his powers. He would let the shadows bleed into his skin; cloak him in the darkness on the outside that he felt within. He found comfort in the cool grip of night; preferring nothing to a world without his mother and father to guide him in. His gran, however, was prepared to live up to her new title of legal guardian. After a while of letting his grief alone, she began to push him towards cracking open that shell he'd so carefully formed; picking him up time and time again until he reached the point where he could pick himself back up. With a dedication found only in a woman with so much spirit as she, his gran inspired within him an independence that roared like a lion. The young boy lifted himself from his depression, and chose to live for his parents rather than die with them.

It was his decision to move to his mother's home town in Washington- greatly inspired by the photos he found of the tiny mountain town on the interwebs- and it didn't take much coaxing for his gran to agree.

It's there, in the bright and shiny U.S. of A, that Forrest began hiking on his own, toying with the powers he'd learned of during his dark days. His gran kept him out of school for as long as he needed, choosing to instead home school the boy. For a while, he would speak as though his parents were still there with them; but once a year or so had past, he began focusing on more physical things- specifically, spiders. He found their gentle creepiness charming, and delighted in the way they moved through his shadows. Though, of course, he was a lover of all bugs; having followed in his entomologist father's footsteps. He scoured through the books that his father had left behind, finding joy in reading the same words that his dad had. His vast knowledge of such an oddball thing- as well as his orphaned state and British Welsh heritage- led him to trouble at the school he finally began attending, around the time he had turned 8; often, he would come home with a new bruise smudged across his cheek or needing a new jacket as his old one had been vandalized. He was small, soft-spoken, an easy target. His gran refused to remove him from the school system, though; insisting he find a way to deal with his assailants.

        And so, he did.

One day, while out on the play-yard, teachers were forced to struggle their way through a darkness so inky-black it was amazing that it had not stained their clothes. Within, three young boys cried for their mothers; and a fourth- Forrest- seemed quite at home.

With his powers now outed, one of his teachers recommended Forrest be sent to a camp- and, soon after, a school- tailored for children like him. Though his gran was certainly wary about having to part with him for such a long period of time, after looking into it for a while, she made the decision to sign him up.

And thus, a new chapter of Forrest's life is begun.

Future concepts: He'll grow up to be a very nervous young man, perhaps struggling with the beginnings of OCD. The loss of his grandmother will hit him like a ton of brinks, he'll withdraw again, guilty that he hadn't been with her; he wrings his hands and his fingers shake, he runs his hands through his hair (no longer wears a hat). He's handsome, but there's something about him that makes you sad. Cyrus will levitate around his head and march his little spidey legs in attempts to get Forrest to crack a smile, of which he will grant- on occasion. He works hard, he wants to prove himself, he's smart; has a great mental capacity. His control over shadows will grow tremendously, sometimes he just soaks himself in pitch darkness to relieve some of the stress; usually when he's lying in his room at night. His recklessness will turn into something closer to self-harm. He'll learn confusion, hypnosis, shield, clairaudience, and scrying (in that very order). I'd like him to have a couple friends that he's quite loyal to, perhaps a wild little thing to love in the future; something like Ellie and Carl in UP.

When he's feeling particularly emotional, the aura will shiver and form tendrils (like spider legs) at the edges, though often people will blink the image of the tendrils away and be left to wonder whether or not they had actually been there.

        Important items:

A backpack with spider legs sewn onto it by his gran, his father's hat.

ANIMAL FORM

User ImageName: Cyrus
Aura: PLUM, low frequency
Species: spider
Powers: levitation
Owner: Forrest Blair

Appearance: Small, black, and long-legged with large beady eyes that seem to be constantly darting this way and that. Extremely quick, when he's not completely comatose.

Personality: Very curious, with a passion for causing mischief and terrorizing those that are scared of him.

History: Forrest discovered Cyrus out in the woods near his cabin, only a few months after having joined the ranks of Murmuring Pines. It is unknown as to what Cyrus was doing beforehand, but, there had been rumors of a flying spider tormenting any who might wander too far away from the confines of camp. Cyrus had attempted to scare Forrest during his daily wanderings, but found no fear in the little boy's eyes when the spider had levitated directly in front of his face; instead, he'd found only friendship and love and a juicy cricket.

Since then, he's never too far away from Forrest's side and will attack any that harbor ill intentions towards the boy.

Hello Dis!

Before we get down to proper nitty-gritty crits, we have just a couple things to address with you.

First and foremost, could you please not use the list format? We will make this clearer in the form but paragraph format is how things, personality especially, should be written out.

Secondly, we're confused by some of the details you've listed in his appearance since they directly contradict what is shown in his art? Limbo was stylistically dark but in the instance of this character it is quite literal! He has dark grey rosy tinted skin, black hair, and white eyes. We also want to inform you he wasn't intended or drawn wearing glasses, this is an understandable mix up though -- his eyes are merely blank.

Unfortunately without Forrest's personality written out in full we cannot properly critique him as a whole and see how his history helped shape who he is so we will have to hold off on that until this is changed.

Thank you!

Wowza I feel like a complete idiot, I thought his artwork was just shadowed / shaded and that it was up for interpretation, and also didn't realize para form was required.

I'll get to work on changing things around, sorry for wasting your time. sweatdrop

Hey Dis!
Only a few minor things in this crit, Forrest's personality and history are pretty much spot on!

However, if you could please:

Remove aura shape description, this doesn't come into play until Agent stage at least. Forrest isn't yet a strong enough psychic to have a developed aura shape.

Please also write Forrest's appearance as whole sentences.

It's unclear in his history whether he still lives in Wales when it was recommended he attend camp. Since the camp and school are American but the Psychonauts agency is international, this means there are also international facilities that would be easier for Forrest to attend than being sent to a different country. If he's to attend the camp and school in the US then he needs to be a US citizen but he can of course have been raised in Wales as originally stated and can keep his accent no problem. Since his mother was originally American anyway this probably wouldn't be too difficult a transition.

And in Cyrus' history:
"Forrest discovered Cyrus out in the woods near his cabin, only a few months after having joined the ranks of Camp Majesco." The camp is called Murmuring Pines, the school is Majesco.

That's all! Just some minor things and then he'll be ready to go!!
