Paper Tiger had convinced her stablemate, Moondance, to go out and cause some mischief. Moondance wasn't really the type to purposefully ruin anyone's day. But, what Tiger wanted, Tiger got. The filly couldn't be denied when she set her mind on something. "Are you really sure this is a good idea?" the quiet, blue unicorn asked. "Of course, it's a good idea!" the wannabe master predator replied. "What fun is it to sit around all day? There are conquests to be had, and phonies to be stalked."Moondance sighed. Paper Tiger was always trying to hunt someone or something. But what if they don't want to be stalked? Tiger blinked and stared like Moondance had grown an extra head. That's the point. What fun is it to chase someone who wants to be chased. It defeats the point of hunting. Du'h."Up ahead, Tiger spotted a white pegasus practicing his swing in the park's batting cages. The hunt was on! "Come on! Let's go hide in those bushes and watch!" She ran off without looking to see if Moondance was following.

Swing didn't really like to practice when his other siblings were around, so he thought it was the perfect time to work on his swings while they were all busy doing something else. He was concentrating so hard on the ball and bat, though, that he didn't even hear anyone else coming.
Swing was trying different poses and experimenting with how to best hit the ball. He wasn't as concerned with competing against his siblings or even the actual game more than he was about learning something new. If he found out something, he could even teach the others so they could learn the secret to improve their game!

"What's he doing?" Tiger whispered to her sister from another mother. "He keeps doing the same thing over and over. That looks boring.""It's called practice," Moondance whispered back, "You need to do something a lot of times to get good at it." She was always at dance lessons, trying to become graceful and elegant. She wasn't quite there yet though. Tiger shrugged. "I don't need practice. I'm already the best at what I do." She moved slowly out of the bushes, "see, watch and learn from the master." Slowly, she moved toward the batting cage while being careful to stay in the foal's blind spot. Her butt wiggled back and forth as she got ready to pounce while waiting for just the right moment. Then, right as his bat made a loud crack from hitting a ball, she sprung. Tiger jumped against the fence. "BOO!"It seemed to startle him, and she fell over laughing.

Starting a bit at Tiger's appearance, Swing Glanced behind him, having thought it was one of his brothers or sisters. What he saw really ended up frightening him. "Ahh!" he cried, scrambling backward before taking to the air. "Wh-what are you?! What do you want?"StarieMichie ((Oh, I'm so sorry! x_x I didn't realize I had quoted the wrong person!))

Moondance scowled at Tiger. "That wasn't very nice." She was ready to tear into her more for being a jerk, but then the boy's comments set her off. "Wait a minute! That's not very nice either! Only I get to talk to my friend like that!"Tiger was clearly not as upset about the remark as Moondance was. She was still laughing, "did you see your face when I scared you? It was priceless!"Neither phony seemed like they were going to answer his question about Tiger's strange looks. Kitomyx lol, it's okay. It just took me a little longer to find it and reply.

"Huh?" Swing looked up at Moondance, unaware there had been another phony around. "That - that's your friend?" he asked, pointing a hoof at the orange filly. He was still too shocked and confused to register Tiger's amusement. All he could say was, "It talks!"

"It talks too much." Moondance said. "But she's my best friend, and I love her... even if she is a pain in the a**." The two really were opposites. Moondance tried her best to be classy and refined. Paper Tiger was a wild one, but often times she was all roar and no bite; more playful than anything, and not a real threat. Tiger stood up and brushed herself off. "Why don't you take a picture? It'll last longer!" She showed her teeth and did her best growl. Although, since she was still just a phony, it didn't sound as intimidating as she thought it should.

Glancing back and forth between the two fillies, the pegasus colt gingerly descended, finally deciding it was safe enough to land. He still kept his distance from the orange, slit-pupiled one, though. "Oh, um...if you say so. AH!"
Leaping behind Moondance, Swing peered out awkwardly at Tiger. "Are you a...a phony of some kind, then?" Not that he'd seen anything like her before...but now that she was trying to growl and bare her teeth...she really did just seem like an ordinary filly. Mostly. With a cat tail and slitted pupils.
Then he remembered something. "Uh...hey," he said to the unicorn. "You wouldn't happen to be related to a filly named Belldandy, would you? You seem like you have her colors."

Tiger was delighted at the distress she was causing. Although it seemed that he was less scared after she growled than before. She would have to work on that. "Of course, I'm a phony! What else would I be?" She was snarky in her reply. "But I guess you've just never seen anypony as awesome as me before." Her tail swayed back and forth lazily. "Don't pay attention to her," Moondance said, "She's just trying to get you riled up. She likes to play games like that, and unfortunately, she drags me along with." The unicorn much rather would have been at home practicing dancing. She didn't like to play mean tricks or scare phonies. It was so uncivilized to her. "Belldandy's my sister! How do you know her?"

"I don't know," Swing admitted to the orange one, seemingly mesmerized by her tail. "Some kind of cat?" Awesome wasn't exactly the word he would have used to describe her at first sight, but now that he thought of it, she was kind of cool. "What's your name?"
Then the unicorn was speaking. He did a double-take distractedly before realize she was talking to him. "O-oh." Under normal circumstances, he might have liked to think he would have recognized when someone was trying to get him riled up, especially having had such experiences with his own brothers and sisters. Since the girls had surprised him, though, he had been too overwhelmed by shock, amazement, and curiosity to notice the others' intentions.
Finally, something he knew enough to talk about. "Belldandy and I were practicing playing our instruments together in the park the other day. We were both talking about how big our families were and what they were like." Smiling, he looked between the unicorn and feline phony. "My name's Smooth Swing, by the way."

"I'm Moondance.""And I'm Paper Tiger.""We're like sisters, but not really because we're not related.""Yeah, I would never be related to a DORK like you!" Paper Tiger started laughing again, and Moondance gave her small shove. "Ow! I was only joking!"Moondance smiled at Smooth Swing, ignoring Paper Tiger. "Belldandy is really nice. All of my siblings are. Other parts of my family are a little more wild though..." She thought about Great-Grandpa TACO and most of his children. She was lucky to have been born into the more sane branch of the family tree. Frankly, she was related to half of Phonyland, so there were bound to be more than a few family members to be embarrassed of. It was just pure statistics. "You play an instrument and baseball?! Moondance was impressed. Now she felt double terrible that Paper Tiger was mean to such a cultured and sweet foal. Smooth Swing was someone she would have liked to have been friends with, not someone to stalk and terrorize. The unicorn turned red with embarrassment. "I'm really sorry that we interrupted your practice. You must need to do a lot of it to be good at so many things..."

Swing chuckled lightly as the girls seemed to playfully bicker between each other. They sure seemed to act like sisters, alright.
Nodding at Moondance's statement about her siblings being nice, the pegasus agreed. "I don't doubt that," he said. "Wild, huh? Well my own siblings are pretty wild, so I know how that is. Though maybe not as wild as Paper Tiger, here." He grinned at the feline filly.
"W-well, I try," the colt answered sheepishly, blushing. "My siblings are the ones who can sing and play ball really well. They're so competitive that I just try to stay out of their way and learn just enough of what they like to do to help them practice. I try lots of different things, but because I don't focus on any one thing, I'm not especially good at any of them," he explained, a little embarrassed.
"I've really been enjoying playing a saxophone with Belldandy's flute, though, because no one else in my family's taken up instruments yet and Belldandy doesn't seem the competitive sort. It makes me feel a little more at ease, not having to compare myself to anyone else."
He beamed at Moondance. "If I remember right, don't you dance? That's really fantastic! Belldandy and I were talking about how you and my brother, Moon Rhythm, should maybe meet sometime. He likes singing more than baseball, but I bet he'd like to try his hoof at dancing, too." Swing looked thoughtful. "I also heard that your brother, Crooner, likes to sing jazz like our mom, Moon River, does. Come to think of it, your family and mine would probably get along really well in general. We both like the same style of music!"
Watching the pale unicorn filly turn red, Swing blinked. "What? Oh, no, no, that's okay!" he laughed. "I prefer meeting new phonies to doing stuff by myself any day. Besides, I'm used to being interrupted by my siblings a lot." The pegasus adjusted his wings and tilted his head, giving Moondance a sideways glance. "It's nice of you to be so considerate, though."

Moondance was really enjoying talking with Smooth Swing. Being friendly and nice was making her day much more enjoyable than playing mean-spirited pranks. Now if only Paper Tiger would figure it out. The cat-like phony looked bored with the conversation. She didn't have very much of an attention span, and all this talking was really lost on her. Her mind wandered as she thought about all the things she'd rather be doing than standing around here. As soon as Swing was done speaking, and before Moondance could reply, Paper Tiger blurted out, "Can we go do something else already? This kid sounds as boring as the rest of your family, Moon Moon."The unicorn turned pale. This was so embarrassing... Moondance couldn't take her friend anywhere. She had been enjoying the conversation, but now she was about to boil over in rage. "Excuse us for a moment," she said to Swing as she grabbed Paper Tiger and quickly pulled her away. "Listen. I don't know what your problem is, but I'm getting really sick of your attitude. We did what you wanted to do earlier, so now you're just going to have to stick it out and do what I want to do for a little bit. Maybe you'll pick up some manners and learn to be nice if you pay attention a little. You already terrorized him, the least you could do is listen while he's talking. The world doesn't revolve around you, you know."Paper Tiger didn't know how to respond. She felt guilty that she upset her friend that much. It wasn't that she was trying to be rude; it was just so boring to listen to them talk about music and dance. But she knew she needed to be a little nicer if she didn't want to get scolded again. Paper Tiger slinked behind Moondance as she walked back over to Smooth Swing. "Sorry about that," Moondance said, "I really have been enjoying talking with you. It does sound like our families have a lot in common. Are you sure we're not somehow related?" She laughed. It wasn't a particularly funny question, but the unicorn felt like she needed to smile a little to feel better. She didn't like yelling at Paper Tiger, but sometimes she had stop joking around with her and just be forceful for her to get it. "I'd really love to meet your brother! But maybe you should try dancing yourself? The dance school is really nice, and it could be one more thing to add to the list of things you know how to do. Although, I understand if you prefer to stick to things where you don't have competition with your siblings."She was trying really hard to make this whole encounter less awkward. She wasn't sure it was working.

At the comment that he sounded boring, Smooth Swing blinked a couple times before smiling sheepishly and reddening a bit, looking down at his hooves. He knew he wasn't as interesting as many other foals, but he wasn't sure how Paper Tiger could have considered Moondance's and Belldandy's family boring. They did so many things! Perhaps she just wasn't as appreciative of the arts that they were, but hey, it took all kinds.
As he nodded politely to the unicorn when she asked for him to excuse them, the pegasus wondered idly what kind of things Paper Tiger must have been interested instead. If she had had fun scaring him, maybe she enjoyed doing stuff that gave her - or others - a thrill and got her adrenaline running? Hmm...scaring people...adrenaline rush...action...that reminded him of a certain other phony he'd run into not too long ago.
"It's fine," Swing answered amicably, beaming at both fillies. "Thanks so much for listening to me. As for being related, I don't think so, but...it might always happen in the future, right? Our families becoming related." His laugh was shy and his face was still flushed slightly as he spoke, but he quickly turned his attention to Paper Tiger.
"Hey, Paper, maybe you should come and meet my family, too. Even if you don't like music much, we also really like playing hard with baseball. If you prefer action, that might be more your thing." He winked, picking up his baseball bat to lean it against his shoulder. "Oh! And if you want to find a phony who's way more interesting than I am, maybe you should go look for Double Dare. He's always doing some crazy new stunt and he loves an audience if not fellow participants."
"Dance school? Me? I didn't think of that," the colt murmured, pondering Moondance's suggestion. "Thanks! I might stop by sometime with Moon Rhythm, then, and maybe some others. I figure the ones who get really good are the ones who stick to it, but I love trying new things even if just for a while."
Putting his bat down to lean on it, he sighed, looking off into the distance. "Well, I guess I'd better go find that ball I hit before it gets dark. Might take a while; I was so surprised by Paper that I forgot to check where it landed. It'll be a fun challenge, though." Resting both hooves on the top of his vertical bat, he inclined his head back toward the fillies. "I'd hate to waste any more of your time doing something so boring as looking for a ball, but it was nice to meet you! I hope we can do stuff together sometime."StarieMichie ((Sorry that took so long. XP Yesterday was my brother's 21st birthday, so we had a lot of things going on.))

Moondance blushed a little when Swing made the comment about them being related. It was always possible for two large families to merge in Phonyland. It made getting together for the holidays easier, for sure. "We'd love to come and meet your family sometime!" she said, a little too eagerly. It seemed that between the music for Moondance, and the athletics for Paper Tiger, that they'd have a really good time. And the idea of meeting a stuntman sounded really awesome to Paper Tiger. "Double Dare, eh? I'll have to look him up. There's no way he's as cool as I am, but I'll give him the chance to impress me.""It was really nice meeting you, Swing!" Moondance said, smiling, "I'm hoping you do come and try the dance school. It's a lot of fun. If not then, hopefully we'll get together again soon. Maybe we can collaborate on a performance."Just then, Paper Tiger thought of something nice she could to in return for all the trouble she caused. "I'll help you find your ball! But I bet I can do it faster than you!" she shouted as she ran off into the field to try to find it. Moondance laughed and watched as her friend darted from object to object in the grass, rushing to find it. Overall, this had been a great day! It started out rough, but everything turned out great in the end. Kitomyx Thanks for the RP! And I hope it was a fun party! smile
