Welcome to Soquili's Certist Hiring Event!

We're looking to hire some talented certists who are going to help keep ponies looking good at sig-sized specs! Think you've got the chops to color, the drive to work regularly, and a desire to help out Soquili? Then this is the place for you!

Starts: Now! 08-29-14
Ends: 11:59 PM EST 09-19-14

Please note -- you may enter for any and all hiring positions, including both Colorist and NCS. You could be hired for one or the other, or both, if you think you can handle the workload.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 27, 2014 4:15 pm

Certists 1 or 2 Positions

As a certist you are responsible for helping colorists cert the soquili and familiars that are dropped. In some cases you might be assigned to cover a colorists certs, in other cases you might be open to taking on recertings and cert updates. This is a position that requires customer service, patience, basic photoshop/coloring skills, and an ability to be prompt in turning around completed certs. You will likely be expected to do multiple recerts, fix errors on old certs, and help customers with cert questions.

For those who have the ability and means, you are also given the option of opening item shops and coloring familiars. THIS IS NOT REQUIRED. We will hire any colorist, regardless of their interest in opening item shops or coloring familiars. Please also keep in mind that certing comes first! Coloring should always come second and only when you have free time.

This is a position that requires the use of Photoshop or another photo editing program that can handle layers, different texts/fonts, and opening PSD files. You will also be expected to help out during events and busy season, by running games and setting up threads.

Perks & Payment: As an NCS member, you will get paid in credits, freebies, occasionally gold, and if you colour familiars, colorist-credits. You will get a base month credit, which can fluxuate if the workload is light. Usually the standard is 2 plus some gold, with an option to trade in that gold for a extra credit.

If you are interested in this position, please fill out the following form below. Also, please cert the below, using these files. You don't have to worry about breed, or parents, or generation . . . We just generally want to see how you overall cert and your color choices and the information we provided. Go ahead and make up or disregard everything else.

Btw -- we know you guys probably don't have the official fonts! So go ahead and pick whatever font you have availble. If hired, we'll send you places to get the legit soquili fonts. :3

Rules for Entry

1. Please read this entire front page before you enter!
2. If you have questions or concerns, please PM them to Soquili Era.
3. Please only give examples of cert and color work you've done yourself.
4. The 4 is a lie.
5. Please fill out the form in its entirety.
6. If we have a hard cut-off date or deadline, please follow it. You might be DQ'd if you miss it, even by just a few minutes.
7. We will perform background checks on potential hires and cross-check references.
8. You do NOT have to have worked in a B/C shop before, or a previous colorist, to enter.
9. We understand sometimes people don't get along, and mistakes have been made in the past. We will not hold past mistakes against you, but do understand, if you have a drama-filled background, or we get many complaints from previous employers, this might dampen your chances of being hired.
10. We at Soquili do not need to explain why we choose the hires we do, or justify why we did not hire someone. While we will give helpful feedback back to colorists who ask for it, we do not have to give details on why one was not picked. Please note, that even if you are not hired now, this does not mean you shouldn't try again during future hire events.
11. There will not be various rounds -- we will simply hire as is, based on your posted entry below.
12. Please be aware you're going to need Photoshop, or some sort of photo-editing program to color for soquili. If your program doesn't handle the lines, file type, or open up folders and layers, this might not be the best choice. You'll also probably want an IM program of some kind so we can get a hold of you outside of Gaia/PM.

Why do you think you'd be a good fit as Soquili Staff? I think I'd mesh well. I love the shop and the patrons, and I would really enjoy helping out both the staff and patrons on a greater scale then I can currently.
Why do you think you'd be a good fit as a certist? I have a lot of experience dealing with layered files in photoshop. I find that I can churn out certs quickly without sacrificing quality. I take direction well and learn quickly, so I can adapt to whatever cert styles are asked of me. I also have no problems digging about for uncerts and things - even without access to the photobucket I've been able to track down quite a lot for people that ask in thread. And finally, I find certing to be relaxing and quite fun, as odd as that may sound (8.

Why do you think you'd be a good fit as Soquili Staff? I love Soquili, the world, and the environment that has been created around the Soquili. I am good at getting day to day tasks done as well as once in a lifetime events and unusual tasks. I try to be aware of what I am writing when I talk to people online and try to present a professional and approachable demeanor. It is hard to make me angry and when I do get angry I calm down quickly and know when to walk away to calm down.
Why do you think you'd be a good fit as a certist? Certing is so much fun for me. It is like doing art without doing art that I don’t have the skills to make as beautiful as the colorists here. The test cert that was supplied was very easy to use and though I imagine that there will be more to it when doing a full cert, I believe that I would be able to create wonderful finishing touches for people and their Soquili. I have a great well of patience and am willing to take criticisms on my work in an effort to make it better or match what the customer wants.

What's your availability like? Pretty open? I work graveyard shift currently so I do sleep a lot during the day and end up doing a LOT of my colorist work at night at work (since my job allows a lot of free time on my laptop). If I'm needed during the day, pre-noted times can be arranged or just spam me with messages and I'll get to them ASAP.
Note that I am trying to get a new job which would put me working normal hours (9-5) and likely sleeping normal hours. I'm not sure when I'll hear back on this job yet, but it's fair warning.
When is the best time to get a hold of you? I'm typically awake between 2/4 pm PST through to 7/8 am PST

Why do you think you'd be a good fit as Soquili Staff? I work hard and I'm willing to take criticism and do anything to make someone happy. I bust my a** doing everything I can in my own shop to please people and make sure they're happy with their pet/cert/what have you.
Why do you think you'd be a good fit as a certist? Again, I work hard, I get to any job as soon as physically possible...and with my night job giving a TON of free time it makes taking care of things like certs super easy.

What's your availability like? I'm usually on Gaia a few hours a day, except during finals season!
When is the best time to get a hold of you? Depends on the semester. Anyone can leave me offline messages on AIM or contact me via PMs, however.
What timezone are you in? PST
Have you worked in any shops before? If so, which ones and how long and what was your job? Yes. I owned about five shops and worked in about fifteen. I haven't recorded the length, but in most cases I stayed with the shops until they became inactive and died.

Do you have Photoshop? Yes
If not, do you have another photo editor? If so, what one? N/A

Do you want to color familiars and/or items? I would not be against it. I will be focusing on the pons, however.
If yes, please provide some art/color samples: [ X ]
Why do you think you'd be a good fit as Soquili Staff? I hang around the shop often! Unfortunately, I no longer have time to back read the thread like I used to, but I enjoy helping out whenever I see anyone with a question or concern.
Why do you think you'd be a good fit as a certist? I'm used to working with the files. I create the cert files for ponies I color after their adult stages have been finished and usually before they've even been given out, so being hired to take on more won't impede with my own workload, especially since I can work on certs at times when I can't color (eg. on campus). As a result, my certing is timely, and I enjoy working on colors and atmosphere as well!

What's your availability like? I work 10 AM to 6 PM EST Monday through Friday, home by 7 PM EST. Generally free on weekends.
When is the best time to get a hold of you? Weekends, after 7 PM EST on weekdays (though I can still be contacted, it's just unlikely I'd be able to handle shop stuff when I'm at work). Please note that occasionally my work goes into crunch time and my availability will shrink -- but I will always be able to get on and chip away at any work that needs to be done every day.
What timezone are you in? EST
Have you worked in any shops before? If so, which ones and how long and what was your job? Mischief Managed, Colorist, also helped out with organization of the thread/events/pricing/etc. and cleaned up/organized the pet PSD files. I think I worked there... maybe half a year? Longer? I can't remember honestly, it's been a while.
Do you have any past shop references or individuals who can vouch for your professionalism and good behavior? No one that's still on Gaia or related to any shops I've worked at. Maybe Nayci? Mindsend?

Certist Specific Information
Do you have Photoshop? Yes
If not, do you have another photo editor? If so, what one? N/A
Can you open .psd files with folders and layers? Yes
Do you want to color familiars and/or items? I'd love to try! But it's not something I'd want to do full-time.
If yes, please provide some art/color samples: I don't have anything recent, sadly, but below are some ooooold examples, and I'm happy to go through as much practice as needed. If I end up not being able to color, though, that's okay! Note that in these samples, lineart is not colored; we weren't allowed to do that in the shop while I worked there, but it is something I can do.

Why do you think you'd be a good fit as Soquili Staff? Soquili is the sole reason I come to Gaia anymore -- if it ever closed for good, I'd leave Gaia too. I've been a customer of the shop since 2006 and have stuck with it ever since, through all the changes and ups and downs. My time won't be split by other shops or other distractions on Gaia, so I'll be able to devote 100% of my time here. I'm friendly, approachable, and I know how to handle things on a professional level if the situation requires it. Being able to give back to the community and help the shop that I've loved for so long would be awesome.
Why do you think you'd be a good fit as a certist? I love certing... even though I haven't gotten the chance to do very much of it over my time on Gaia. Being a certist at Soquili is something I've wanted to do for a long, long time, and I'm so excited to finally have an opportunity to apply. I really enjoyed making the certs for these ponies! I also work in the Quality Assurance field IRL, so I have a good eye for details and making sure all information displayed is accurate and consistent.

What's your availability like? I work 9am-5pm Monday – Friday. I check gaia every morning around 6:30am-7am before work. If needed I can check gaia from 11:30am-12:30 during my lunch. But otherwise I get home around 6pm and at that point I have my Lappy and can work. I’m accessible every weekend unless I let you know beforehand ( Like going away on a trip ) which only happens less than a hand full of times a year.
When is the best time to get a hold of you? I check gaia every morning around 6:30am-7:00am. I can get texts while at work if I need to jump on AIM but because of my job I have to be careful it's customer service so unless it's a problem/needs my immediate attention anytime after 5:00pm is best. I get out of work at 5 and home around 6pm.

Why do you think you'd be a good fit as Soquili Staff? I’ve been a part of the shop for a long time, since 2004. And I’ve grown with the shop, from being immature and demanding/not understanding how the shop ran to mature and understanding how things really work and what's important. I might not post all the time but I’ve lurked and I’ve watched the shop grow and change.

I work well with others and my current RL job(s) is Customer Service so I think that helps with an active and high paced shop like Soq, having that experience and knowledge on how to work with customers and know when to ask for help from co-workers and how to work well in a group. I enjoy my part time/seasonal job of working PAX, a larger gamer expo where I get to help the show run smoothly and keep the attendee’s safe. I’m a hard worker and I enjoy working behind the scenes so to speak. I’ve worked in shops before so I also have gaia shop experience.

Why do you think you'd be a good fit as a certist? I have past experience and I actually enjoy certing. I currently don’t and have no plans to work elsewhere so I can solely focus on the Soq certs and I’m settled into my life. I’m not a student nor do I have children, my work hours are set and I always know ahead of time if I’m going to be away. I’d really like to be a part of something bigger then myself and help it move smoothly. I think it’s be a lot of fun getting to cert ponies for other people and just help things move along and be supportive of the shop I’ve come to love and met some of my best friends at. I've been waiting for an opportunity to apply for a job like this here at Soq.

If Not, would you be willing to get AIM?
What's your availability like? Evenings and weekends for several hours or "around" most of the day, respectively. I can be reached by phone (or facebook messenger) and may consider tracking down a message system so I can have AIM on my phone. You can also reach me via PM.
When is the best time to get a hold of you? Generally any time. I get home around 6pm MDT/CST (depending on the time of year) and have to make supper, but I try to be in easy reach during the day, regardless.
What timezone are you in? I spend half the year MDT, the other half CST...and I only live in one place. I'm the time-piece that knows when the times change and who will be the same time as me and who jumps an hour back or forward in comparison.
Have you worked in any shops before? If so, which ones and how long and what was your job? I took over The Lucky Noodle for a while after Meha left it between another user and myself. I think I ran/managed it for about a year or more (I also coloured and did some editted pets, but I've let what skills I harvested fall off). Unfortunately, I was more or less alone and had to deliver all the good/bad news, so it got really stressful after a while, and Meha came back in.
Do you have any past shop references or individuals who can vouch for your professionalism and good behavior? You could possibly talk with Mameha Otome (former and now current owner of The Lucky Noodle).

Certist Specific Information
Do you have Photoshop? Yes
If not, do you have another photo editor? If so, what one?
Can you open .psd files with folders and layers? Yes
Do you want to color familiars and/or items? Perhaps eventually!
If yes, please provide some art/color samples: Old, but "Twinkle Twinkle I ate yer star~"; if I decide to pursue an item and/or familiar shop on the side after settling in, other samples can and will be provided.
Why do you think you'd be a good fit as Soquili Staff? I'm a pretty darn pleasant person to be around and try not to let outside things come inside of work and the like (sometimes it can't be helped IRL, but it's easier to separate things online). I believe I would definitely have time to do one of these jobs I'm applying for, and if I'm going to be away, I generally know in advance so I can help set up someone to cover my absence. I enjoy hanging around in the thread and interacting with shop-goers and staff alike. And I generally have time to sit and work on certs, and I'm confident I'll be faster with time.
Why do you think you'd be a good fit as a certist? Examples, baby~ ...okay, I kind of kid on that answer but not entirely. To elaborate: I have a decent eye for colours, patterns, and shapes, and I can do some basic colouring (see feathers below, also will link to item-thread post). I like finding things that work with the soquili, to either make them stand out, or make the cert look like it was made for that soquili. I'm open to comments and criticism, and as you see, I can take images and replace the background, even if it's a simple task.

I like to tinker, and I've never actually certed before, even when I used to colour a few years back. I find it to be interesting and even fun. C:

I saved these certs in .PNG for purposes of this application, but I want to be clear that I'm aware the certs will be .JPG/.JPEG format with 100kb limits to keep them sig-friendly.

Why do you think you'd be a good fit as Soquili Staff? I've been around for years, seen the rise and fall of the shop and have stuck around through all of it. I feel like I could be a great asset to the team, and that I would enjoy being able to brainstorm with all the creative people in making Soquili an even better place than it already is!
Why do you think you'd be a good fit as a certist? I like tedious things, and certing definitely takes time to do. I've helped others in the past to cert pets, and I've always enjoyed it. I'm normally pretty timely on doing things that are work-related.

General Information
Name: Mahogany Sunset
Position Trying For: Certist
Do you have AIM? Yes - mahosunset
If Not, would you be willing to get AIM? N/A
What's your availability like? Very flexible - I am on for hours at a time. I am a college student, though, so there will be times I have to dedicate to schoolwork and classes come September 22.
When is the best time to get a hold of you? 4 PM PST - 12 AM (midnight) PST every day, though sometimes I can be on earlier and later. Occasionally my day will allow me to be on from 9:30 AM PST - 12 AM PST (the next day). I will have online classes after September 22, so my availability will be the same, but there may be times when my classwork will have my undivided attention and I'll be quieter around Soq.
What timezone are you in? PST.
Have you worked in any shops before? If so, which ones and how long and what was your job? Pridelands, Children of Rekkadar. I also own my own graphics shop here in Soquili, where I make thread layouts, signatures, herd images, etc. for the patrons here: Maho`s Custom Graphics.
Do you have any past shop references or individuals who can vouch for your professionalism and good behavior? xxx Yuki Bear xxx, Nayci

Certist Specific Information
Do you have Photoshop? Yes
If not, do you have another photo editor? If so, what one? N/A
Can you open .psd files with folders and layers? Yes
Do you want to color familiars and/or items? No (I may apply for this at a later date, though.)
If yes, please provide some art/color samples: N/A
Why do you think you'd be a good fit as Soquili Staff? I've been in the shop since February 2010 and have fallen in love with the world and the people who run it. I like to answer questions, help others, and have experience with customer service through my graphics shop and other projects, including working as an artist on a graphics site and at a horse ranch that holds programs and camps for children and those with special needs.
Why do you think you'd be a good fit as a certist? I have a lot of experience with graphics - I've been making various kinds since 2010, and nearly all have been made for others, so I've always challenged myself to do my very best. I've done photomanipulations ( one - two - three ), teepee layouts ( Nayci - Swirly - Summer Raven ), and other projects involving typography, resizing, layer modes, and the like.

All of these are sig safe. >.>
