Today was one of those special days Swing set aside especially for his siblings. He loved to spend time with them, but active as their whole family was, it was difficult to coordinate their schedules unless they planned activities in advance. Today was specifically meant for Swing and Star to practice their singing in choir rehearsal.
Flitting over to Star's room, he knocked a hoof against the door - gently at first, then a little more loudly. "Star? Are you ready?" he called, ears perked.Atmadja ((Sorry it's kind of short. ^_^; I hope it's alright. As usual, let me know if there's anything I need to change!))

Star was sitting with her chin propped up on her hooves. Her normally sunny expression was clouded with grump. Today in school, her teacher had taught the class about cutie marks and special talents. And she said -- oohh, it made Star so MAD -- that everyone only got ONE!
What was a filly to do? She loved singing and she loved baseball -- did her teacher's lecture mean she was going to have to only pick one or the other in order to grow up and get her cutie mark? UNFAIR!
Star barely noticed when Swing knocked on her door the first time. It wasn't until the second knock that she came out of her reverie and opened the door.
"Sorry about that, Swing," she said, trying on one of her usual smiles. "I guess I was just a little lost in thought. You ready to practice?"

"Oh, that's okay," he answered, surprised at Star's response. "I thought maybe you might have been napping or something." He was skimming his notes on singing and proper ways to warm up one's voice so as not to damage one's vocal chords. "What were you lost in thought about? Something wrong?" He frowned a little. "It's not some phony at school, is it?"

Star immediately shook her head quickly. A true, little smile crept up her face. "Oh, nononnononononono!" She nudged her brother. "Don't you worry about THAT. I can take care of myself. And I know I can rely on your or Bambino or Mom or Daddy or ANY ONE of us if that ever became a problem."
She sighed then. "It's just... do you ever wish you knew what your talent was? Or that you could hurry up and get your cutiemark? I hate thinking about it!" She pouted. "It's the woooooorst! And what if we grow up and I never see you? Or your talent makes you too busy to come hang out with me? That'd be even WORSE!"

Staring at his sister a minute, Swing could only blink in puzzlement. "Problem? What are you - OH. You mean bullying?" he asked, fighting a smile himself. "No, no, I'm talking about a different sort of problem. Like if you might find yourself thinking about another phony a little too much. A phony you like."
Since she hadn't seemed to know what he had meant, though, that was probably a good indication there was no such phony. This, in Swing's opinion, was a good thing. He was pretty certain he'd have to beat off his sisters' suitors with sticks once they started showing up and right now was far too soon.
"Talent?" Oh. That was unexpected. "Sure I do. All the time," Swing assured her. He was pretty certain most foals their age did. But...growing up and not seeing each other? Being too busy? Maybe he didn't think that deeply. "O-okay, maybe I don't think about those things," he admitted. "But that's because there's no need to worry about that stuff. We'll make time for each other just like we do now. Right?"

Star sighed. Swinger had DEFINITELY not considered all the gross weird awful terrible no-good bummer-making possibilities that she did. What if he ended up being... being... a Phonyland police-phony?! And then he'd have the day shift and she'd never ever see him because he'd get off super late and she'd end up being some kind of evening-phony-type-job-haver and THEN WHERE WOULD THEY BE?
"Oh -- no -- I don't have a phony I like. Not a special one. I mean, I like everyphony, but you know what I mean." Star fluttered her wings impatiently. "Oh, gosh, nevermind. I know you won't leave me in the dust. Let's just sing."[

Smiling slowly at Star's ranting about liking everyphony, he leaned back and decided to help his sister wind down a bit. There was no way they'd be able to get any good singing done if she was this stressed. Opening his mouth and taking a deep breath, he began singing a lazy tune that turned out to be 'Oh! Susanna', but the song wasn't the same. He was making his own lyrics.
"Now, my sister, for our cutie marks and jobs, don't you yet fret, 'Cause we don't know what the future holds and don't know what we'll get.
I might get a golf club or a bat, the kind used in baseball, 'Cause just like a swing, you swing them both or I might just get them all.
Oh, Star Spangled! Oh, don't you fret for me! I'll still be a goof from head to hoof It'll all be fine; you'll see."
He paused a bit to beam at her before continuing on the next part.
"I was talking to some fillies who met you the other day~ Both Mossflower and Belldandy do agree on what they say.
You're a friendly and bright filly who, no matter where she goes, gets to know all sorts of phonies and befriends all those she knows.
Oh, Star Spangled! Oh, don't you fret for me! I'll still be a goof from head to hoof It'll all be fine; you'll see."
"...One more verse!" he cried, eager to finish his song and hoping it would cheer his sister up.
"Well, you're destined to become a star like our parents who both shine And no matter what remember I'm your sibling and you're mine.
So when you get fame and fortune, prob- -ably some fan boys too, Just know I'll make sure to keep you safe beating those boys black and blue~
Oh, Star Spangled! Oh, don't you fret for me! I'll still be a goof from head to hoof We will all be fine - you'll seeeeeeeee!"
Ending on an absurd high note, the colt collapsed on his stomach, huffing as he caught his breath, but grinning madly.

Immediately as Swing began to sing, Star looked up, a smile forming on her face. Even without the silly lyrics, she really loved to hear her brother's voice lifted in song -- but then she started listening to the lyrics.
As the song continued, Star's smile grew wider. Then the smile turned into faint giggles. Then the giggles became a full blown laugh. Then the laugh became silent, just breath and shaking shoulders and tears of mirth that left her gem eyes. By the end, Star, too, was collapsed on her stomach, and she slung one arm around her brother in glee.
"That-- th-that..." Star gasped happily. "Oh, Swinger, you're the best."
Her worries couldn't have been further from her mind.

Pleased that he seemed to have been successful not only at taking Star's mind off things but at making her laugh, Swing began to laugh as well. He put an arm of his own and a wing around his sister as she put an arm around him.
"Glad I could help," he chuckled. "...Unless I really do get a plain ol' swing as my cutie mark. That would just be sad." He glanced at his rump, feigning worry. "Anyway, I think I've had my vocal chords warmed. Up. Or severely damaged. Either way, it's your turn," the colt told her with a smile. "You ready for practice now?"Atmadja ((We can actually go through the practice or we can wrap things up in the next couple posts if you like. ^_^ Your choice.))

Star wiped her tears of mirth away with one hoof, still giggling as she took a deep breath. "Never change, Swinger. You'll have the best cutie mark of all time, I'm sure of it! I can't wait to see it." She nudged him.
"Well -- I dunno if laughing counts as vocal warm-up or not, but we can definitely try it out!" She cleared her throat and stood up straight. "Let's practice!" Kitomyx ((We can do a little! I think they're super cute together haha <33 ))

"Hey, if I never change, how am I supposed to get my cutie mark?" he teased, poking her with a hoof. "I can't wait to see yours and the others', though. You're just so passionate about what you love to do. I'm sure it'll show as you get Old Enough."
Grinning at Star's mention of their 'warm-up', he answered, "Well, it works out your lungs, that's for sure. Alright, what song should we sing first? Your name-sake?"Atmadja ((Aw, glad you think so! XD I agree!))

"That IS true," laughed Star. "You can change a LITTLE bit, I guess. But just enough so you can get to Old Enough. Just don't change in your awesome- awesomeness, cause it's the awesomest around!"
With a grin, she cleared her throat, checked her posture, and began to sing her very favorite song.
"Ohhhh say can you seeeeee?" she began, waiting for her brother's harmony.

"I won't if you won't," Swing assured her. "But I just build off of my family's awesomeness, so I really can't take all the credit."
Taking up a better singing posture, he cleared his throat and came in with a harmony on the second line. "By the dawn's early liiiight~!"Atmadja (( sweatdrop Sorry for the delay. Looks like you're about ready for her to grow, huh? ^_^))

Star smiled brilliantly, sidling closer to her brother and draping a wing around his back. She continued singing with him, bright and true, her eyes sparkling, and for the first time in a long while, felt totally and completely at ease. Kitomyx Yess! Right about! > U< Thank you for the RP! I can't wait for Swinger and her to grow!
