Yumi Tsuiyama was adored by her mother and father. They were some of the last Japanese who made it out alive and took shelter in the Den and were lucky enough to have a baby, though they couldn't genetically make her perfect due to the fact that they were afraid something would go wrong with their only child.
Yumi took on the Japanese culture due to her parents enforcing it on her, but she later on enjoyed the culture and had great pride over it. She even wears a Geisha outfit inside the walls to express her culture. She respected her parents though and never tried to do anything that would disappoint them. Her father taught her how to fight. She exceeded for excellence so she would get up early and do morning runs and morning exercises to make sure she stayed in shape, even though she was never the fastest person around. Due to her being taller, she can't run as fast. But she manages to have fantastic balance and durability, which was one of the reasons why she was chosen to be a Sentinels at the age of 16. The others being her strong personality, determination, her observant skills, and that she is adept at understanding people and emotion. She acts much mature for her age, being 19 now.
But during Yumi's academy days, she learned how to dodge with ease, preforming many backflips, cartwheels, frontflips, and other dodges. She can dodge for days, but eventually will mess up just like everyone else. She also has great balance. She got her weapon, since she isn't used to having huge weapons, she kept the Plasma Dagger. And for her equipment which she uses more than her Dagger, she chose the Thrown-Sentinel Shield because it gave her an idea. Due to her pride in her culture, she made her Shield look like a Tessen Fan (A Japanese styled fan). They allowed her to do so since she manages with it better than her Dagger, mostly because her Shield returns to her.
