SECTION 2: ORIGINS Canon: Tales of Xillia Canon Point: Shortly after the end of the first Xillia game Means of Arrival: Having traveled to Sharilton escorting a merchant caravan, Alvin arrived just in time to see Elize slip into what looked like a temporal rift. It closed behind her before he could call out, and the next several days were spent in rapid transit to the only other temporal rift he could access easily -- the one at Milla's shrine. But something was wrong with the rift this time -- the monsters were different, the environment was different, and when he arrived at wherever-this-is, it certainly wasn't anywhere the well-traveled mercenary had been before.
SECTION 3: REPERTOIRE Class: Gun Swordsman Fighting Style: Strong and dirty. Sword, gun, kicks in the face, whatever will get the job done. Big, powerful movements due to his natural physical strength. Alvin's special skill is Guard Breaker, which allows him to smash through guarding and heavily-armored foes. He can also Charge his sword, fusing his gun to it for greater strength, after he's executed a martial arte. Weapon(s): Broadsword and Pistol

While Alvin has plenty of fighting ability, as a native of Elympios, his mana lobe is merely vestigial. He cannot actually cast Spirit Artes. His Elympian technological-marvel weapons and skill make up for that.

SECTION 4: PERSONAL DETAILS Personality: Self-assured and with a dose of swagger, Alvin is outwardly warm and friendly. He delights in teasing people, admiring the ladies, and generally fulfilling his business card of "the mercenary with the heart of gold". Underneath that cheerful facade, he can be exceptionally calculating, seeing all sides of a problem and playing multiple angles that will favor his own designs best. He's recently turned over a new leaf to become more honest, but those skills don't just go away overnight. Fave Food Type: Peach pie -- it reminds him of his mother. A native of Elympios, at the tender age of six, Alfred Vint Svent was stranded in Rieze Maxia along with the rest of the passengers and crew of the Zenethra when they penetrated the Schism twenty years ago. His father died in the storm that wrecked the ship. His uncle took the reins of the group remaining and the ... attentions .... of Alfred's mother. Calling themselves Exodus, the lost Elympians endeavored to find a way back home while trying to remain invisible in Rieze Maxia, a magical land far different from their technological one.
His mother grew mentally and physically ill during their tenure in Rieze Maxia, and Exodus was the only group that could provide her the appropriate medication. Alfred eventually shed his name, becoming Alvin, and took whatever jobs he could to support her at a very young age. As he grew into a skilled and effective mercenary, he played all sides -- Exodus', Auj Oule's Rashugal's, and a little band of misfits, in an attempt to gain vengeance on his uncle, and secure passage home for his mother, in the hopes that she would recover in Elympios.
The attempt failed. Leticia died, poisoned by her own nurse. In the meantime, that little band of misfits was having quite an effect on Alvin, reminding him about doing the right thing regardless of consequences. After one betrayal too many, and one more re-acceptance by people that really should never have trusted him, he gained profound recognition of the error of his ways, and committed to the mis-matched group wholeheartedly, working his hardest to prove that he had changed.
After the schism was broken, and an uneasy peace was forged between Rieze Maxia and Elympios, he took up a more-honest career as a merchant, working to help maintain that peace and communication between the two civilizations. But peace is fleeting ... and Alvin has never really lost the joy in the fight.

SECTION 2: ORIGINS Canon:Fullmetal Alchemist Canon Point: Post-canon, using the Fullmetal Alchemist manga as his primary source material, but with plenty of personality grabbed from the omake and the original anime. (No mustache!) Means of Arrival: Through a False Portal found in the basement of Laboratory 2, near the end of the aftermath from the eclipse. Apparently the military under Fuhrer Bradley had been working on alchemical circles that could teleport objects and people, but never got them fully functional. Roy chose to explore the portal himself, as he had already seen the Portal of Truth, and refused to risk the lives or welfare of any more of his people.
SECTION 3: REPERTOIRE Class: State Alchemist Fighting Style: From a raging inferno to the tiniest spark, Roy's talent with flame alchemy is unparalleled. His control of fire is legendary, and it is his favored method of dealing with things that have lit his equally fiery temper. Although flame is his preferred tool, he remains a capable alchemist in other fields as well, including physical and biological transmutation. He generally eschews physical combat in favor of alchemy, leaving hand-to-hand fighting to his subordinates.
Weapon(s): At this point, his hands are all Roy needs to direct flame, manipulate the concentration of gasses in the atmosphere, or reshape the terrain he is standing on. Although the transmutation circles scribed on his gloves are now unnecessary for him, he has chosen to keep them as a signature.
Skills/Magic: Did we mention fire already? Roy's command of it is effortless, honed through years of study and more years of combat usage — although he regrets the latter deeply on many levels. Although alchemy is technically a science in Roy's reality, its effects are similar enough to magic to be mistaken for it.
As an alchemist, he has a solid understanding of the physical and biological sciences, as they are what inform his transmutation capabilities. Note that Roy is a transmuter and that the rule of equivalent exchange still applies. He cannot create something from nothing.
Roy is deeply intelligent and generally has a great deal of foresight. He is a skilled tactician and extremely capable on the battlefield, both in terms of the survival of his own troops and the decimation of his enemies.
SECTION 4: PERSONAL DETAILS Personality: Cocky, egotistical, a slacker, and a womanizer — or is he? Roy is a little of all of these things, but much of that is a carefully designed facade, fabricated so that people will underestimate him. And they do that on a regular basis. People often wonder how he rose to the rank of Colonel so quickly — but they don't call him the Hero of Ishval for no reason.
Underneath that shallow exterior burns a bright, intelligent personality — Roy is smart, passionate, driven, idealistic, and loyal to a fault. He is also profoundly mercurial; while he tries to keep an even keel, he's as temperamental as the fire he plays with. His highs could easily be described as manic, and his lows as the blackest pits.
Fave Food Type: Roy's not a picky eater, but he does like spicy food, particularly spicy noodles. He was also fond of Gracia's cooking, when Hughes brought it into HQ. (He tries to visit her whenever he has a few moments to spare; he knows she needs the support.)
Bio: What happened to Roy's parents is a big question mark. Even he doesn't know, and his aunt never told him. There are whispered rumors that the Colonel is part Xingese and adopted, but there is no evidence to support it. He spent his younger years in the care of Christine Mustang, also known as Madame Christmas, and as a teen apprenticed to Berthold Hawkeye in the study of alchemy.
His alchemy master did not approve of Roy's choice to join the military, denying him the secrets of flame alchemy that he sought to learn. At his death, though, Berthold's daughter Riza chose to entrust them to Roy. The two of them had grown close during his apprenticeship. It was not long after Roy became a state alchemist that Riza also chose to join the military, though he did not know she had enlisted until they met during the War of Ishval.
The War took its toll on Roy and his closest friends, driving each of them to seek peace in their own way. Roy's decision was to seize the highest position in the military and dismantle the war machine it had become. He has been striving for that goal ever since.
Other Notes: The events of the past few months have been a blur for Roy. He's lost his closest friend, nearly lost his sweetheart first lieutenant, nearly lost the boys that he never admits he's taken in under his wing, and nearly lost his life, more than once. He doesn't know when to slow down, and has pushed himself back into service ahead of schedule. He's well aware that as a visible leader in the state military and as one of the few who has seen the Portal of Truth, he must lead by example.
