Out of all the places Lane could have asked to go fly a brand new Nightingale one would think she'd ask to go explore outside the Den. But she didn't nor would she offer any explanation why. It seemed ever since Tobias placed a finger on her lips to silence her, she was just that, dead silent. That was a huge red flag. Silence was only a state Lane could be in on a mission. But here when she was about to ride and test out weaponry, such silence was unfathomable. It did not take long to discover why either. She worried for Z. Sure she had removed all of his cigars, but his whiskey was another story. Not to mention the risk he was placing on himself for leaving the hospital early. Then there was the shots and broken window. Not to mention the process of remodeling the house. It was difficult to find bright and cheery things to say when her mind was engulfed with such thoughts. She could only hope his was not upset with her and drinking away the rest of his life. But knowing Z that probably was exactly what he was doing. Lane still did not regret being adopted, she just hoped somewhere along the line Z and Tobias could get along and Z would not be so stubborn and listen to the doctors. But she doubted such miracles would come to pass.

As the assassin approached the door awaited entry she rolled her eyes when they tried to deny her access. Sometimes it wasn't about who you were, it was about who you knew. Once they saw she was entering with a Harbinger and was the daughter of the infamous Black Zombie the doors open wide. So instead of being free outside the Den Lane found herself underground. It was difficult for her to feel like a caged bird when she was the one who chose the cage. As the Nightingale was brought into the room Lane's expression did brighten a bit. Though it wasn't the over exuberant reaction she'd normally give to such new technology or gear at least it was something. "...After you Tobias." Lane said finally regaining the use of her voice but in the back of her head she was counting down the hours before Z needed another shot trying to convince herself he would be fine without her.

As Lane gripped the controls she could feel the pit of her stomach twist and turn into knots. The feeling wasn't foreign, it just had been awhile since she'd felt the odd sensation. It was not exactly a good feeling to have. The knots made her thoughts cloudy and her body completely frozen. On a battlefield one second could mean the difference between life and death. Sure this wasn't a battlefield, but it didn't exactly make Lane feel much better. He knew? What the hell was that supposed to mean? Lane wasn't exactly in the mindset to solve his ambiguous statement either. Knowing Tobias there was no telling what he was referring to. She could feel the heat rise in her cheeks and couldn't help but curse the proximity between them. Shooting down targets was part of the plan, getting rendered into a blushing shell of her former self wasn't. Lane took a couple of deep breaths and drowned out everything around her. She took aim at the targets and fired.

The Nightingale didn't move an inch as the rockets were fired. It simply hovered in place. If Lane didn't see the smoke trail herself, she'd question if she hit the right button. As the rockets collided with the targets the room was engulfed with fire and flying debris. A shift was in the air. Worry behind her gaze became pure joy. The scientist had to restock the missiles and ammo in the main guns before Lane had her fill. Soon they ordered her to stop saying that wasting all the Nightingale's missiles and ammo on targets wasn't acceptable. Lane was still willing to explore the plane though. She got up from her seat and began walking around the huge plane. "Hey Toby what's Schwarz mean? Also, what did you mean when you said you know now?" She asked as the smoke began clearing out of the room.

Lane said nothing for a moment. Her eyes didn't even glance Tobias way. She wasn't sure what she preferred. At least when he was oblivious her stomach didn't feel butterflies. She couldn't call him a liar though. She did love him. As to if that was why she stayed alongside him for so long she couldn't answer. He'd always been a great friend to her. When it shifted into something more she wasn't sure. Lane was speechless and that was saying something. The young girl always seemed to have something to say. When did Tobias connect the dots? "...Uh," Lane started but she couldn't find any words to say. Though she loved him her mouth wouldn't allow her to say the words. Because though she loved him when it boiled to down it her fear was greater. Fear of losing him as a friend or to the enemy. But she was happy. Underneath the butterflies and fear she could feel her hear pound with joy. Then it clicked. She had too short a life expectancy to just let fear hold her back. Screw the scientist Lane simply didn't care. She hugged him hoping he could understand what she simply couldn't say. Lane discovered long ago it didn't matter if he never was able to return her feelings the way she wanted, when it all boiled down to it, she'd just be happy as long as he was alive, kicking, and her friend.

"For someone who claims they know you are pretty obilivious Tobias. I love you so much until it scares me. You make me more nervous than a battlefield ever could. You have always been a great friend to me, but then it shifted into something more. I'm not sure when, but it did. It could've been the moment you said, 'I'd prefer the freaky inventor girl who cuts class', when you were running around like an idiot down the street screaming where's your bike when I had it all along, when we attended our graduation avocation ball, or even the first mission we went on together after you were a Harbinger and you took my hand then held me in an embrace and then we jumped. I don't know when or how, but I fell for you. I can't say that's the sole reason I stay by your side. When it all boils down to it, you're my friend first. I suppose that's why I never told you how I felt or many memories of us before you were a Harbinger...When you became a Harbinger it was like you changed completely. You just weren't your charming sweet self anymore.You were a cold and serious person. But deep down I still believed you were my friend and I guess somewhere down the road I realized it didn't matter if you ever returned my feelings. I'd be happy as long as you were alive and somewhere you had a heart. Do I love you? How could I not? Just because you're a Harbinger and are supposed to be incapable of such emotion or a groundling? Well, I love you Tobias. Smirk and all...Does that answer your question?" Lane replied then ended the embrace and looked deep in his eyes. She still didn't know if his statement was true, but it was nice to tell him the truth. She didn't know if it was nerves or the thrill of testing new weaponry that fueled her, but it was too late to take her words back. Now he knew the truth.

"...It wouldn't make me happier. I'm glad to be with you. Wishing for the past won't make any difference. I'm just glad I can spend time with you now." Lane replied taking his hand as he led her out of the testing ground. "You don't have to apologize. I had fun using the weaponry. But next time we definitely should go outside. As to the Hoverboard of course I remember. I think I left the blueprints at my house though. I know there should be some spare parts in the basement we can use...Besides I really need to go home anyway and drop off Z's shots. It won't take long." Lane told him but she honestly didn't know. If Z's wounds had reopened or something along those lines occurred it would take awhile. Sure she loved him, but that didn't mean she'd forgotten Z. As much as his actions angered her at times she wouldn't allow the virus to just take what was left of him away for good. She'd already lost him to exile. Lane doubted she could deal with the loss again.
