Success! Creature:Olrawk -- Olrawks prefer to be fed small fish, live rodents, and some seeds. Once trained, olrawks are intelligent enough to be used much like hawks as hunting tools or even for delivering messages long distance. Thanks to their habit of singing for Oblivionites, many Orderite soldiers and even traveling civilians like to keep them close on hand as pets to warn them of approaching danger, but Oblivionites, too, often attempt to catch and tame them for their beautiful songs. They are silent fliers, but not too fast unless diving from a great height. Despite Orderite legends of olrawks being the product of Seren, olrawks are naturally calmer around Oblivionites, and Oblivs, as such, generally have an easier time taming them. »»» +5 to all steps for any Oblivionite (hybrids included) »»» For Step 1: +5 to anyone who can fly: Khehora, Orderites, and those of high enough stages to do so (this stacks for Oblivionites). You may crush an Aryala orb to gain control of the wind and get this bonus (lose the orb from your inventory).

Sueno, once the thought of hearing an Olrawk sing had come to her, wanted to hear it. It was distracting her from her garden and learning! What sort of sound was it? The stories said they sang... so it must be beautiful! Eventually she gave up and approached Raemos. After the too pretty Cearlan was gone of course. Since he probably wouldn't like that she was taking Raemos off of guard duty to go hear a creature sing.
She found him outside doing who knows what and poked his back. "Can ye come with me? Ah'm headed into the forest...."

Raemos was fixing something. He was pretty handy, so he'd been put to work fast when he wasn't out patrolling or assisting Sueno. He was hardy from his desert childhood, and awake early as heck anyway, so he had really helped out. He felt good about doing laborous, honest work. Cearlan was out patrolling and checking on the nearby farm's guardians, and Raemos was left to do his fix-it work alone. It was always sad to see Cearlan go... or not. It was a good view, he had to admit. Still, it meant he was alone and surrounded by strangers who, he could tell, did not trust him. It hurt to not be trusted. He'd heard Sueno walk up and was not startled by the poke in the back. "Hello Miss. Sueno." he said, finishing fixing the small cart wheel he'd been working on this time, "How are you this morning?" He listened to her query, and set the cart wheel down - it needed some extra things anyway. "Of course I can." he said, giving her a slight bow and straightening up. He was ready for anything - that was part of guard duty. So he didn't even have to get his weapons - they were already strapped to his waist. "Are we going for anything in particular?

"Ah wanna hear an Olrawk sing. But they dinna sing around Orderites. Apparently they sing to warn of the approach of Oblivionites or some such nonsense." Which was just weird. What type of animal only sounded off to warn of the approach of a single race? And it wasn't even a warning.. it was singing.. how weird was that? "But Pa told me not to go into the forests alone anymore. So...." She shrugged.

"I've heard of those..." said Raemos, nodding. He'd read that Flora and Fauna of Magesc book quite a few times now, and even annotated it. He knew what an Olrawk was... but he'd never seen one. "Well, you will not be alone." he said, smiling, "We will see if we can find one." As they started to the woods, Raemos's sockets narrowed thoughtfully. "Ah. I see. You think one will sing for me."

Sueno rolled her eyes. "Well yeah. Yer an Oblivinoite! Iffn they only sing around yer kind then it ain't gonna sing fer me! Though maybe Ah can train one to sing... " She kept and eye out for anything. Not just dangerous animals or tracks, but also for plants ad seeds. She was always on the look out for new additions to her garden! The woods were painted in a bright gold, rich brown and deep green, lovely colors that meant summer. All around the hum of small insects floated about on the warm still air. In the distance, bird's chirping could be heard. No strange or special singing though. Just ordinary woodland sounds. If they just walked around, would that work? She didn't know too much about the bird actually...

I'm not an Oblivionite his mind responded, automaticall, but during his stay here - and indeed on the way to the farm - he had given up on asserting it out loud. At least Sueno wasn't afraid of him, and was attempting to use him effectively, which was - like it or not - what he had offered. "Perhaps." He looked to the trees. He knew, intellectually, that they were golden, brown, and green, and he could smell the rich smells of the Serenian summer. It was a beautiful land, too bright - perhaps - for most Oblivionites, but not for Raemos. Hidden holidays in Serenia aside, the desert days were brilliant and harsh, and there was much work to be done in that time. "Those taller trees over there." He commented, pointing to a grove of tall, proud, verdant hardwoods, "They look promising." He remembered, vaguely, that Olrawks nested in tall places. "Lets check them out, shall we?"

DraconicFeline Feel free to have Rea do the actual catching. I can also have Sueno fly up to capture it... Sueno nodded and meandered over to the trees. She was certain it'd probably be better to sneak around, track some things.. but she wasn't too sure n how to do that. The best "hunting" she did was with snares and traps... Being quiet was difficult.. mostly cause she'd been taught on the ranch you had to make noise to let the animal know you were there so it didn't startle or attack when you suddenly appear. As they approached she heard a sweet enchanting tune start up. it was haunting, sad, but also sweet and gentle. Stopping, she just listened for a few moments before starting to approach again, wanting to see what created this tune. It had to be an Olrawk! She'd never heard it before! Why do they make such sweet music? And why only when Oblivionites are around, she wondered as she quietly approached a tall tree the sound was coming from.

robot kitten Let Sueno use her fluffy wings Raemos searched the trees, but he could see little through the intervening, lush layers of leaves. Still, the copse was the most likely spot for a bird – of bird of prey size, if he wasn't mistaken. He was looking up one of the trees and thinking about how he would climb it when a sound reached his ears. It was, he realized, the most beautiful thing he had ever heard. It's gentle, haunting melody slid through his body, warming him like mulled sheron milk. He closed his eyes and listened, only realizing he was swaying when his hand touched the tree's trunk for support. As the song ended, he looked up and, feeling wetness on his cheeks, realized he was crying. Was that an Olrawk's song? he wondered, searching through the trees for it, seeking some measure of it's song's beauty. That such a song could come from a mortal throat (or beak) was difficult to comprehend. He had heard that the Olrawks were creations of Seren, made to warn her people to the presence of Oblivionites. If so, let it not be said that Lady Seren had no mercy, for it lifted his heart from the dark nothingness he drew his magic from, allowing him, briefly, to touch the beauty of the light. He looked around for it's source, and saw Sueno approaching a particularly tall tree. ”Is it there?” he asked. The song began again, and answered his question with a beauty greater than words. ”Well, then...” he said, when it finished, ”Now... How do we get it?”

Sueno smiled when she saw Raemos was crying because of the song. Souless he may be, but not heartless! She summoned out her wings, they were small and only able to carry her for short distances but it was only to the top of a tree! They were bright teal in color, with the edges of the wings blackened while the insides were a bright orange and they didn't elegantly and slowly flap to fly... no they flapped and buzzed with blinding speed as she hopped up into the air and zipped towards the creature to land near it. It was still singing as she slipped up behind it to wrap a cage of light about it. The song ended in an angry squawk as she grabbed hold of her magical creation and hopped down to the ground.

Another time – perhaps even later – Raemos would reflect on the absurdity of the girl's wings. Wouldn't her wings tire after being used like that? he would wonder, or, Does she need to eat more to sustain her flight? But only later. For now, the song – and the beast that sang it – held his full attention. When Sueno caught the Olrawk, however, the song ended with a shriek that was, to Raemos, as jarring as a scratched phonograph record. He flinched as the girl jumped down, the imprisoned bird struggling against her light cage. “Er.” he commented, “Impressive use of magic.” He held his hands out to take it from her. “So, we have captured an Olrawk. What do we do now?” he asked, “I believe the next step is... will we be feeding it; bribing it to stay?” (144/300)

Sueno did not relinquish the cage: if she did who knew what his dark magic would do to it? Plus she liked keeping hold of animals. Warrior that he was what did he know about raising them? "Among other things yes." She responded to his question. "Ah've got an empty coop we can let her... it out in. Food, some calming magic, will help get her.. it used to me.. us. if it works, and she.. it doesn't sicken than we can start thinking about training. May also see if the fea dragons will be accepted... having companions calms some animals down." Sueno wasn't sure what gender it was, though she thought it was female. I'll ask father, she thought as she headed back towards hte farm. He'll know. "Yer the one with books, anything in there about olrawks and their food?"

So – he let his hands fall to his sides - The girl still feared him to some extent. Or feared for her magic? She need not. He knew how to handle magic. Either way, it did not make him feel particularly happy, though the memory of the Olrawk's song was enough to remedy that somewhat. She was allowing him to follow her alone into the woods, he thought, That was at least something. He couldn't expect the girl to trust someone with his horrible appearance, not overnight. The familiar despair threatened to return, and he found himself longing to hear that Olrawk's song again... “I see.” he said, “Is this coop covered?” He followed her, politely, back towards the farm. “It does fly, after all.” He thought back to his nature books. “I believe it does. I actually brought my copy with me. I'll check it when we've gotten the creature situated...” he paused in his speech. “Fae dragons?” he asked, curiously, “I have heard of them, but never seen them myself...” (318/300)

Sueno gave him a stare. Was it covered? No, she was just going to let a bird loose in an open pen! " Ah raised my Fae dragons in there... it's meant tah hold flyin' creatures comfortably... So yes, it's covered. And ye can meet mah fae's... they normally live in the barn, coop or follow me about in the fields. " Guess he hadn't gone exploring or poking around the buildings since he hadn't seen them! Sueno would have done that right of the bat, always explore so you know where things are! She headed back towards home, already plotting what she would need... I think having it with the fae's will help... Ill have to keep them separated for the first few days to allow them time to get comfortable, but having companionship should be good for it. And wait to see what his book says on what they eat. Though, she held the cage up and looked at the ruffled feathers of the irate olrawk, looks like a meat eater... The claws and beak were too curved and sharp to be a seed or plant eater.
