While the thought of taking the final step in joining the Military was daunting at best, as fortune would have it Alec wasn't completely alone in this would be adventure. Keeping in mind the conversation(s) shared, he waited until after the fun and festivities to come to an end. Seeking the raven haired girl out hadn't been too difficult, her father owned a local butchery. Of course he'd meant to stop by Shakuntala's booth before they closed shop (especially after seeing her retreat from the bonfire). However, with the minor incident from the angry Wallist having chucked a rock at his skull and being busy with helping out at the family business he hadn't had free time until now.

Now, with things coming to a conclusion it would seem the next chapter of their adventure would begin. Alec had a fairly good idea what direction they were heading but who liked to face challenges alone, unless of course it was required. This however was not one of those times.

It was nearly 2 in the afternoon, the sun had risen high most of the clouds having already burnt off. The noise from the festival was slowly dying down, the normal murmur of the town and its people as it was accustomed. Alec knew mostly the going ons around him but was absent minded. He found himself going over in his mind the finality of his decision, and the events over the last couple weeks. It seemed like the chaos was finally dying down, leveling out to a more even daily hum. Along with the help of many brave, and willing souls they'd pulled through. It was a wonder no one was seriously injured, by the walls he couldn't have been more thankful for that. A few colds, bumps, bruises and scrapes seemed to be the worst anyone had fared.

Alec was lingering around the old tree they'd both agreed upon. He watched as people passed by, mindlessly going about their business. Remaining optimistic in this kind of situation seemed wise. Even if the recruitment office locations had in fact been pointed out to him there was still a sense of hesitation. Rightfully so, given the level of commitment the act of signing papers would require. A small smile ruined his serious concentration. It couldn't be that bad right? The worse he'd have to do is show off how horribly he wrote, which he'd already done during the Parade. Sighing he placed his chin in palm, he'd just make due and live for the moment and staying true to his promises.

Shakuntala juggled her weight on each foot impatiently, glancing up to the ticking hands of the clock in her home's kitchen before shooting her eyes back to her mother. She kneaded the edge of her apron impatiently and pleadingly sloped her eyebrows to Kamla with hopes she'd hurry her activity. But, with her parent's back turned, her expression went unseen. Another glance to the clock proved she was going to be late to her meeting with Alec.

"C-C'mon, mum, hurry," she begged. "H-He's waiting...!"

"Oh, all right, here!" Kamla extended the lunchbox knotted in a piece of fabric to her daughter. "Wait, he?"

Shakuntala didn't take the time to answer her. She hastily snatched the meal from her mother and dashed through to the door with a slam come her leaving. She sidestepped and pirouetted passed other pedestrians as she made her way in the direction of the tree she had agreed to meet the cherry redhead in front of. Slowing to a stop to catch her breath, the girl clasped a hand upon the pole to the awning of a storefront and panted. Swallowing thickly, she stepped back and leaned against the plank of wood to calm herself.

Staring up into the crisp, blue sky, the seventeen year old was filled with a myriad of mixed emotions. This was her first time deciding something for herself like a true adult. Not only such, it was also the first time she was going behind her mother's back to do something she wasn't aware of. The girl bowed her head at the thought of when her mother would find out. Shakuntala expected rage, though she understood if a number of other feelings followed. Kamla was quite overprotective of her, after all.

Realizing she was wasting time pondering things that were to come, Shakuntala pushed herself from the spot and continued her hustling. Eventually, when the male's head came within view (the shade of red was quite hard to miss), Shakuntala raised a hand to flag down his attention. As she approached him, she bent at the waist half in exhaustion and half in apology.

"I-I'm... Haa... I-I'm s-s... Haa, haa.... I-I'm s-sorry I'm... late..." she said between breaths.

Now to be fair, he might have dozed off if he'd waited around too much longer. When sudden heavy footfalls had his attention, he watched as his friends hurriedly ducked and weaved past the crowd. She was running over to him now, out of breath and panting. Giving a small yawn, Alec quickly stood up offering her a smile. At least trying to reassure her his having waited wasn't a problem. Truly, it wasn't like he'd been thee that long anyway. "Hey its all good. I'm glad you could make it Tala!" He gave her space to catch her breath, his own lunch set to the side having waited until the other joined him. He'd only been impatient really about eating. Still rather nervous either way he almost had no appetite, almost.

"You ok..?" he expressed concern gently touching her shoulder with a gloved hand. The red head tilted his head curiously at the other she regained her composure. Alec hadn't exactly told his mother today would be the day he signed up either. He'd kept the details to himself, unwilling to cause a fuss during meal time. The idea of not seeing his sister for an extended period of time was a bit troubling, however he had his heart set on what he wanted to do. Offering for her to come sit once she was ready, he eased himself down sitting on a patch of grass under the trees shade. It at least offered reprieve from the sun's heat.

"You know, its got me wondering how this'll work out." He mused thoughtfully, his blue eyes reflecting his curious wonder. "I hear they wont just let anyone in the military currently." He pursed his lips some in wonder, hopefully they wouldn't face any hitches.

The copper-skinned girl rose from her bent pose and presented her companion a pleasant smile after smoothing away the dip of her side-swept bangs. Switching her lunch from her right to her left, she replied, "T-The same... I-I hope the wait... wasn't long..." She really hoped it wasn't. The heat was enough to fry an egg, though she was already boiling in her red top and long skirt. She thankfully took a step into the shade of the canopy above both of them and tugged at her collar uncomfortably. The heat and her never got along.

Turning her head to him, she nodded it in a frank reply. "Y-Yea..." she replied. "W-What about you? A-Are you okay? You're... You're not hot, right? D-Did you eat?" Shakuntala wasn't one to worry, but because she considered Alec her friend, she unwittingly let the first signs of her motherly side show. She was willing to sacrifice her entire lunch to the male if he needed it had she not recalled the empty tingle in her own stomach. Settling into the seat beside him, Shakuntala pried the double knot made by her mother open and slipped the cover off the container inside the fabric.

She made a face at the contents inside. It was brimming with pholourie with a small side of tambran sauce to dip. Shakuntala didn't mind the small batter balls, but at the same time, she wished Kamla would've provided her with some variety in her meals. Plucking one of them from the container, she dipped it in the muddy brown, but sweet sauce and plopped it in her mouth. Chewing, she offered it to the other to eat just as he made his statement.

"Ah," she muttered, tilting her head in thought for a moment. Swallowing, she continued with, "T-That's... u-unfortunate... B-But I'm sure we have a chance... A-At least, I-I think we do?"

Alec shook his head, light blue eyes reflecting his kind sympathy for her concern and worrisome attitude. "No, no not at all! " He shook his head trying to reassure her. He was almost too warm, and had even chosen to wear a short sleeved shirt and knee length shorts. His boots had been a practical choice, and quietly he fanned himself with a gloved palm. At least he had water readily on hand, it wasn't like he was suffering by any means. The raven haired girl defiantly won a small chuckle and a shake of his head as he sat down beside her just about an arms length apart but still easy to converse.

The only real injure he'd suffered was a bandage to the temple and a small nasty cut. Nothing that wouldn't heal quickly at least. Reflexively he touched the spot and gave a small nod. "Yea, I'm fine." He hadn't been but it wasn't worth worrying over. Nor was he going to call attention to the fact. Alec might have asked Tala if she had food as well, in a returned gesture of concern but she was quickly eating at least. "Hm? Oh. Yes! I brought something, left overs from dinner." he quickly dragged his bag fishing out a container with rice, chicken and what appeared to be some kind of spiced sauce over the top. He made sure to properly retrieve a proper bite of all the items and offered her the utensil in exchange for one of her pholourie bites. They were rather good, he'd never had one before and thanked her for the fried good.

"I think we'll be ok! Hm..We both had a hand in helping out. Maybe we'll bump into someone we recognize between now and going for Orientation..?" his brow knit together in a bit of wonder. Once she'd had her try of his food he politely settled down eating. Enjoying the shy girls company, just as he had in times before. She was easy to speak with, and get along with at least. "I'm pretty sure we go and enlist and see about getting our uniforms. I hear you have to be dressed up and in uniform for that." He murmured thoughtfully a smile tugging at his lips again. Something told him they'd fair well enough, they were able bodied and willing. Even if they were painfully nervous.

"Bet it'll be pretty busy...I think we'll try and find a registration place after we eat?" Alec mused aloud, waiting to finish speaking before taking another bite of food falling into comfortable silence with his fellow companion.

Shakuntala gobbled up bits of what was offered to her, preferring Alec's food to her own. Not being a fan of her mother's cooking is what kept her so thin, but at the same time, she went hungry half the day. Still, she dutifully finished her own meal and capped the container she held after blotting her mouth clean of the batter balls' greasy exterior.

"T-That would be... s-something..." she replied shifty to the chance they may run into someone they were familiar with. Would someone else be signing up for the military? Shakuntala hoped not. She didn't want to be seen. Her mouth drew to a small O at the chance of wearing the uniform. She stood up and held out her arms as if she were a manikin; studying her gangly form with narrowed eyes. Could they ever find something that would fit her suitably? But her greatest desire was for a chance to wear pants again. Her last time was actually during the parade when she donned riding clothes. Kamla would throw a fit now if she ever saw her daughter out of, by what she terms, "proper attire."

"L-Let's go find one n-now," Shakuntala said a bit hurriedly, glancing down at him from where she stood. The girl hadn't dropped her arms yet, so she looked like a bird ready to take off. Flapping her arms slightly only made the image more clearer. She was more than excited to give the uniform a wear.

(( It is quite good. <3 It's been a while since my ama made it, but its so good when she does. emotion_kirakira Also, sorry for the short reply! ))

He quickly finished his meal off, returning the container to his little bag and stood up. Alec had a vague idea of what she was doing, when the girls arms stretched out and squinted a bit. If she was anything like him, she'd had her hand in trying to imagine the pristine uniform on. Hopefully they had clothing fit his shorter frame.

"Yeah..Good idea. Let's go see if we can find a place for sign up, youre right Tala." Maybe he'd seen one not that far off from here if memory served him correctly? Usually he was pretty good at know were most things in town were, but admit-ably he was just concerned how things would go down. It would have been fairly awful to work up the courage to sign up and be shot down. There was always that sense of impending dread, and wonder if everything would go according to plan. He wasn't starving, nor desperate street kid. He'd been called foolish for his aspirations but this time he wouldn't let others make his choices for him.

She did in fact look rather bird like, but smiled at her. The enthusiasm translated well, he didn't need her to explain. Especially as she flapped her arms, and looked at him with such a hopeful, impatient look. His heart was thudding like a caged beast, but he dusted himself off giving a nod of agreement and making their way across the street. The pair went past a few shops heading for the near by recruitment office. "I think this is the right place. I remember Lloren saying there's a couple other locations across town? But this'll do." He murmured quietly to Shakuntala carefully making his way inside, glancing around looking for some one to question over acquiring their own enlistment papers.

Shakuntala's hands balled to determined fists when Alec rose. Staring him dead in the eye, she said with as much confidence she could muster in her voice, "E-Everything'll be fine. I-I know it will be." She was unsure if her words had any effect on the cherry redhead, but just taking an optimistic turn for the better made her feel much more comfortable with what they were about to face. Lowering her arms to her side, she followed after Alec with a flightless jump in her step. She could do this! She could do this!

She couldn't do this.

Upon reaching the location of one of the recruitment offices, the seventeen year old felt her body tense like a stiff. She suddenly found herself ducked behind Alec with her hands clasping his shoulders to be her human meat shield against any terror that may be out to get her while there. Her maroon-colored eyes peeked up from beside his ear.

Thinning her lips, Shakuntala muttered to him, "I-I h-hope... she's here..." And hope she did. Though she wasn't as familiar to Lloren as Alec, the copper-skinned girl did know her face, and that was better than nothing. Like her companion's, her heart was beating like a drum and, at any moment, she felt like it would burst forth from her chest and run amok in the streets. She didn't release the male's figure even when he started to look around for enlistment papers. There were too many people she didn't know -- best to stick like glue to the one she did.

After the Parade, Lloren's volunteer duty did not end in truth; there were still loose ends to bring to a close, reports to process- especially following the barge disaster, there was additional paperwork to fill. It was no wonder, then, that she was taking a short break outside precisely the building that Alec and Shakuntala were headed over to.

Initially, Lloren had preoccupied herself by doodling in the dirt by the building- by the time a masterful blueprint for her future Sorcerous Tower Of Doom had been created and was ready to be copied into her notebook, a faint motion alerted her to a cat's presence. She looked up to a nearby crate and there it was; a being of ultimate grace, its tail swishing from side to side, its adorable little paw-paws... jumping down to walk across her blueprint and plop itself down right in the center, effectively destroying it. "Ahh, kitty, whyyy..." Lloren moaned feebly, shoulders slumped.

Luckily for her, the creaky doors to the recruitment office opened and closed shut right at that moment, distracting her from her loss. Perhaps Alec and Shakuntala had arrived- having inadvertently been crouched in a blind spot, Lloren stood up and looked through the window inside. "Oops." It was them, all right. So they really were going to apply! She quickly stepped around the corner of the building, jumped the step and swung right into the reception room.

"Hello hello! Good to see you here, amirite?"

Even if the direct eye contact thing was a little much for the red head, he could bring himself to return the gesture. Shakuntala of all people wouldn't lash out at him he was absolutely certain. Her encouragement had him determined, a stubborn set to his jaw. It was any wonder he wasn't as shaken as she was, perhaps it was because the other girl had shrunk behind him and her hand latched onto his shoulders. He straightened himself up to his full height and without fuss let her do as she pleased and moved them both forward.

They could do this. Just, one step at a time.

Soon, both were was greeted by Lloren who seemed glad to see them, joining them in the reception area. Gently patting the girls hand still on his shoulder he nodded some before speaking. "Yup! Good to see you!" On that, note he was speaking for both of them. He had a sneaking suspicion the violet eyed girl behind him might relax a bit with some encouragement from the cheerful woman.

"I thought this one was where you pointed out initially. So figured I'd try it and hope for the best." He answered thoughtfully before quickly adding. "I'm glad to see a friendly face, just uh..kind of a big commitment but we're defiantly still sure." Alec noted with a bit of seriousness, unwilling to back down at this point. At least this made the transition a little easier..hopefully. Strange, there was a cat in the window now. It seemed to be content with just watching the humans go about their business. He didn't give it too much mind, at least not right now while he was talking.

Glancing back at Tala, he gently encouraged her to step forward.

The bashful seventeen year old made a bleat like a goat at Lloren's appearance. With a mouth drawn in a squiggle, she was roughly intimidated by the obviously non-intimidating moment. That didn't stop her from hunkering down lower behind Alec.

The trainee's maroon eyes glanced between Alec and the raven-haired female with both curiousness and hesitance. These two were obviously well more acquainted than she was to either of them, so stepping into the conversation felt more like an intrusion rather than an open attempt at getting to know either of them better. Letting them speak, the girl's eyes were latched onto the feline Lloren was interacting with before. It served to be only a temporary distraction, however.

Shakuntala was slow to remove her grip from Alec. The pat of her head and encouragement to approach Lloren was met with a harder clasp on the fabric of his top. She swallowed thickly and, verrry slowly, she released her human meat shield and stepped from behind him. Kneading the edge of her skirt, she looked up to Lloren and offered her a smile.

"W-What A-Alec said..." Shakuntala replied. "I- W-We w-would still like to... join..."

Lloren's impression was quite the opposite of Shakuntala's; seeing the way she clung to his back and how Alec pat her on the head for reassurance, she surmised that they must have grown into close friends since the bonfire.

She smiled at the redhead's determined admission, part admiration, part encouragement. Despite having once stood exactly where he and Tala did in relation to things, it was always impressive to witness people making life changing decisions for themselves. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained, is it?" She followed up his thought with the comment, and then found herself repressing an inner squee at Shakuntala's adorable behavior and shy smile. It was unfair, really; if the bronzed girl was this cute when they were strangers, wouldn't she be filled with regret once they're friends? Ah, but she'd be filled with regret if they never became friends, either... or should she say it's a gain both ways, rather than a loss?

"I get the feeling that everyone at the military school is going to really appreciate the two of you being around. Me also. Me especially, hehe." I want to boop her nose. Gosh. Lloren readjusted her glasses with a push of a finger, looking to the desk on the side. "Anyways, right! First they have a physical exam- it's nothing to worry about. Height, weight, hearing test, skivvies, blah blih bluh. Goes by in a flash, anyone not in bad shape will pass." She approached the recruitment officer, a platinum blonde man that had been patiently waiting to be addressed ever since people had come into the building. "They'd like to enlist." She said, pointing her thumb at Alec and Shakuntala.

"Certainly," The man nodded and slid some papers out of a folder immediately, rising from his seat and delivering a welcoming smile to the two applicants along with the forms. "Just fill in the top row for now, please. Do either of you have any questions?"

When Lloren had finished his sentence extending on what Alec had been conveying he was nodding his head, grinning suddenly. "Yes! Exactly." He retorted, perhaps also agreeing with Shakuntala. It was hard to say.

In reality, he wasn't that close to the girl with glasses (just yet anyway) but Alec tried to make friends with anyone of reasonable friendliness. Sure, sometimes the tactic of making friendships with peoples of different walks of life didn't always work. Still, it was better that then remaining passive. Preventing life from just passing by without living it to the fullest was exactly what had spurred him this far. He'd been called foolish for his drive but he was here wasn't he? It was finalized, written in stone. Or paper in this case.

If he hadn't seen Shakuntala's determination before, he might have been worried this wasn't for her. At least she had stepped up, even if it was hard for the bashful teenager. Alec didn't mind standing there letting her gain her courage. Maybe he couldn't always be there like he was now, but you can never fly unless you try. He was told that long ago. Alec was proud of his friend for making her own choice, which seemed to be a big deal for the copper-skinned girl.

"Thank you. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone." He noted, stressing his gratitude to both Lloren and the man who was offering them the papers. Hopefully they got on well enough at the military school, Alec had high hopes.

When the blonde man asked if they had any questions the red head shook his head. "No sir..just a note that my handwriting may be hard to read, and this'll take me awhile. I'll really try however?" He promised nervously, picking up the pen and carefully trying to force meaning out of things that really didn't mean much. Wouldn't that be shitty, denied because of words. That would be a massive blow to his ego. He was physically sound; not exactly the most powerful, but he could run well and was in shape so that would have to carry him.

( ...did i say head? I thought i said her hand? oh WELL WHATEVER MAKES TALA FEEL BETTER GOGOGO owo/ <3

So for now we can just have them sign and either time lapse for the measurement bit etc since i think that would make a semi neat srp idea?)

Shakuntala's shy smile widened at Lloren's reassurance. Of course, she wasn't expecting strangers to beckon her to join them with sparkles, rainbows, and sparkling rainbow puppies, but she certainly had hopes it at least be as welcoming as the trainee made it out to be. "Ah... T-That's... That sounds nice..."

Shakuntala pursed her lips as she took in what Lloren said next about the physical exam. But her simple explanation wasn't enough to break the firm foundation of hesitance that plagued each choice the copper-skinned girl made. Height and weight weren't a problem; despite being a tad bit underwent due to an uneven eating schedule, she was likely to pass that portion of the form with flying colors. It was the fact she had to stand amongst another in her underwear that was unnerving. That's because her mother (ah, as always, Kamla is to blame) ingrained the belief that she should only appear to her future husband in them.

Her attention jumped from the bespectacled female to the person she had addressed next. Accepting the form from him, she peeked at her own before glancing curiously over to Alec's slice of paper as if checking for any differences. Obviously, there wasn't any, but she checked anyway. Shakuntala smiled lightly at Alec upon his mention of slightly illegible handwriting and taking a bit of time to complete the top portion of the form. "I-I'l... I'll h-help you anyway I can..." she told him.

(( Aha, that's my fault. I accidentally typed head when I meant to type hand. ^^" ))

Alec gazed in a sense of silent wonder, and a kind of awe when Tala offered to help him. "Wait what? Really? Thanks!" He had fully expected he would have to deal with it himself, when he heard no protest from anyone in the room (he of course glanced nervously between Lloren and the blonde man he did not know) it was instantly a much more bearable process. Much to his relief no one seemed to mind, so instead he waited patiently for the older girl to finish filling out her information before asking questions. He at least clumsily signed his own first and last name to begin with when he realized what the first part was with some amount of glaring and concentration. At least he didn't need glasses, that was a small wonder.

The idea of the exam didn't bother him, he was modest but if it was part of the test so be it. He'd worn briefs so it wouldn't be much of an issue, nor seemed daunting. Only what was in front of him on the white paper and its black lettering was truthfully. He knew his approximate height and weight, but hadn't been to a doctor recently so it would be interesting to see he supposed. At least he had Skakuntala to turn to each time he was unsure what something said. Alec made a quiet promise to himself during his stay at the military school he'd find someone(s) willing to tutor him.

While it seemed worse in his own mind, the top portion was complete after some corrections, and a bit of smudging here and there. The worst part of it over for now. "I think -- that's all on this part?" Alec offered the document and pen back to the man as requested.

(( xD its fine I just was like ...wait hm?))
