Leaving a trail behind her of new and tasty treats, Sueno bribed the Hastar into the corral that opened into the fenced off field. Then, as the Hastar trotted after her eating all the delicious treats, she piled some apples and carrots at the back of the corral and slid out of it. It was a breathless moment or two as she waited for the Hastar to enter. It paused and stopped right outside the corral for a moment or two before finally (she sighed with relief) it entered to get at the apples and carrots. Once inside, she slid the gate close and trotted to the front where her bag lay.
Fillarin, heading out to start the training the other new Hastars and saw that Sueno had finally managed to cage the creature. With a smile he walked over and gave her a pat on the back. Sueno looked up from petting the Hastar’s mane to smile at him.
“Ah got em finally!”
“That ye did! Since you’ve caught him, and are a bit too young to train him on yer own, let’s tie him up and train him with the others.”
Sueno nodded and watched closely as Fillarin slipped a bridle on with practiced speed. “When ye get a mite bigger I’ll show you how to brdle them up. But first ye got to be able to reach!”
Sueno giggled at this and trotted next to Fillarin as he towed the Hastar to the training pens.
“First rule;” Fillarin said. “Never show fear. Hastars are meat eaters and they’ll attack if you show weakness. Second rule: Move slowly to not startle them at first. Third rule…”
“Never approach from behind!” Sueno piped up with a grin. “Ah talked with the hands and they gave me hints!”
“Good.” He gave a whistle. “We’ll leave yer’s fer last so he gets used to being around other people. Bring out the new ones Oran!” He called to his son.
The hastar, Sueno noticed, was looking wary and snorting, his hooves pawing the ground nervously.
Reaching her hand up, she petted his muzzle. “It’ll be fine, ye just wait here and be quiet.” She said softly. “Ah’ll take him over there,Mista Fill.” She said and pointed off to the side. “Be with him and watch as ye do the training. Then Ah’ll try to train him.”
Her teacher smiled and nodded.
