Sueno was at her teachers farm today for another lesson. She was coming out of her guilty grief and Fillarin figured the best way to completely pull her out was to throw her into work. Taming work in fact: taming one of the new Hastars that’d he’d gotten from Soudul just for her. That land was known for having the sweetest of the Hastars ironically enough. Despite the darker colors and the people who lived there, they were calm, tended not to spoke as much and could be trusted not to trample a child. Unlike the ones that live here, he thought with amusement. We’ve got the meanest of the bunch! Well, second meanest.
“Sueno! Come here lass, got a special task for you today.” He called out to the girl who was petting the Fekarat that he had living around the house.
“What it it?” She asked curiously: a vast improvement that the monosyllable words she’d been using lately.
“I want you to catch that Hastar and try to tame it.” He said with a smile, pointing at the deep black Hastar that pranced around the encased field. “It’s from Soudul, which means it’s much calmer than the one’s you’ve been helping me with.”
She looked at it with wide eyes. It was... large… and active. But, and her chin came up. She’d do it! Or at least try. It was a pretty color too; the deep black offset with the red of its mane and eyes. Scary looking though! But she knew, as did most, that the Soudulian Hastars were the sweetest of the bunch. So despite it’s fearsome appearance she wasn’t too afraid.
Taking a deep breath she slowly crawled over the fence and tried to approach the creature. She noticed with irritation that it had no bridle or anything to grab ahold of. This is gonna be difficult, she thought grimly. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out the apple she was saving for lunch and approached slowly, hand held out proffering the apple. “Come here.” She said softly as she approached, “Come one.” Be calm and gentle, gotta be calm and gentle she thought. The Hastar looked at the apple, then laid it’s ears back and pranced away. Nope, it didn’t want anything to do with the strange thing trying to bribe it.
That afternoon she spent in fruitless attempts to tempt it to come to her. This pen is too freaking big! She thought; it just walks away, I can’t trap it at all!
She finally gave up as the sun was going down. “It’s not coming to me, Fillarin.” She pouted, her arms crossed as she glared at the happily frisking Hastar.
“Well, I’ll leave it there with a few others for the next few weeks then. You come and try every day until you get it.” “She looked at him, her brow wrinkled in confusion. He merely grinned and pointed. “That’s to be the first of your Hastars lass! Now you just gotta catch and train it!”
