The practice range is located in a building near the edge of the city. It's purpose is to help train Guardians with using weapons and equipment to make one effective on the battlefield. There are targets of all sizes from giants to small dogs. The building is ran by holograms, enter a room and it will put you in a virtual battlefield where you can train with what you've got. Very effective for even the most trained Guardians as you can set the difficulty before you enter. The technology, the Materializing Light, was manifested for testing. It is used in small rooms, and in a falsh of light you are ready to go. The dim rooms have no enemies unless you create them, amd you can change and alter them to anything you choose. The bright rooms are for training. Levels include:
New Recruit: Recommended for new entrys to experience the things they may be fighting against
Experienced Soldier: Recommended for soldiers looking for a challenge
Veteran: For soldiers looking for a taste of hell and a challenging experience
Nightmare: Not recommended for the weak of heart. Nightmare is more for the high ranking officers and those who are looking to further sharpen their edge on the battlefield, from children being used as bombs to being surrounded in an all or nothing fight to the death.
Hell: Not recommended for anyone. Hell is for those who are absolutely mad. Reapers are normally the ones to use this, and it gives you an in depth look a mile into utter hell. Anything could happen, betrayal, ambush, fighting your own friends and family. Those who enter are at a chance of being mentally scarred for the rest of their life. There are rumors that prolonged exposer in this difficulty can cause health problems, mental problems, heart attack, seizures, even death. Those who come out sane get their name put on the wall of fame on the side of the building. Be careful, this is not real, but it can make you believe it is.

Mollec reached in his hoodie pocket and pulled out half a dozen cigars and handed them to her. There are dozens of them all over the house. Basement may be the worst because I have rolling equipment down there. Feel free to take it and sell it, make a couple dollars. Those cigars themselves go for about $10 a piece minimum. I put special things in them to add flavor, reduce the chemical intake, and still have the same potency of a regular. I had nothing better to do so I experimented. He wasn't as dressed up as he usually is. Normally he would wear various styles of clothing, male and female. His boots had a one inch heel on them to make him stand taller. He had animal print tops and wifebeaters he'd wear in and out of the house. He couldn't give a damn about anybody's opinion of him. They just knew him as the violent oriental that lived in the den with a temper problem.I have a temper when it comes to abuse to women. I'll hit anyone over that. Bigger or smaller then myself. As long as he doesn't piss me off or hurt you I won't do anything. He laughed as he heard her talk about the sledge hammer incident. He didn't tell her that that boy no longer has his manhood due to the same hammer but he didn't let that out to anyone. You were 14. Not like you really cared if you had a date or not, you just cared about having fun. Being dolled up in a nice little dress at a dance with everyone. I still danced with you though. He started walking out into the district, to the practice range, hands in his hoodie pocket. He looked normal, besides his parasitic changes.Do you wanna stop at the doctors office and pick up the shots after we play around here for a bit, or do you want to pick up stuff for the house? I wanna take a look at the bar to see if I can't find any idiots when were done here.

Lane pinched the bridge of her nose in slight frustration knowing she could probably make quite the fortune selling Zombie's cigars. At least now she had a renovations budget. When she said he had a temper when it came to abuse she slightly laughed under her breath."You have a temper period. It just becomes worse in that situation. Yeah I didn't care. You got me there. I was fourteen not an idiot. I swear if I close my eyes I can still see the fear blatant across my male classmates faces. Anyway speaking of dances you still owe me one from the ball. You were to busy drop kicking an officer and skipping out on your shots. Remember? Shots first then house once we are done here. I wonder if there's still a dent in the floor from when I shot you in the foot. Sorry again by the way." Lane said her whole demeanor changing at the memory."...So am I learning sword fighting here?"

Mollec laughed with her and nodded his head.Yeah, that I do. I have a nasty attitude with a temper to match. Maybe that's why anybody that knows zombie just leaves him alone if they aren't too bright. And hey, the perverts left your cute butt alone after that. That's what I wanted. Don't doubt the lengths I'd go for you.He walked over to a small hut in the room, and looked over to her.Yeah I guess so. We can use the Materializing Light technology to train. I didn't bring my sword, and I don't dare use one of the guardians. It would just cut them right in half. That sword isn't anything to joke about, it's cut through things you couldn't even imagine. It cut a 2 foot wide tree right down to the stump. My wife got irritated and swung it once, and we just watched that tree fall over onto a Lancer. I will just use the Materializing Light to make me a sword. He laughed again, having some fun before there wasn't any. He pressed the button and pulled her in, closing the door behind them and locked it. Suddenly a blaze of light blinded the room, and they were in a forged forest.Best thing about the Light, you can change everything to what you want to through thought. It's one of the things that they use on the advanced guardian training. This is just a dimmy, so there won't be anything to worry about unless you want there to be.He started walking, imagining an infantrymen katana, which was about a foot longer on the blade, and half a foot longer on the handle.I'll fight with this. I want you to practice quick draw swings with it. It gives an advantage on a stubborn enemy and speeds up the time it takes to draw and attack with it. Practice on me, I will block for right now.

Lane stared at him for a moment as if internally debating if he was physically up to the task of teaching her. Before she could really let doubt settle in his words blared through her head. Perhaps she shouldn't doubt the lengths he'd go when the first step had not even been taken. Yet times had changed. They were both older and she'd learned a lot about protecting herself. She might not could've managed years ago, but she could now. The question was could he? Eight hours had not gone by nor was he quite near his expiration date, but she still worried for him. Any daughter would. She knew his health habits weren't perfect, but getting a little exercise never hurt anyone. So she didn't see it as a lesson anymore. That would put her in the wrong place mentally. Lesson made her think back to the past. When he didn't need shots or had to be watched. This was no lesson. This was her version of an all out war against his disease. He couldn't smoke or drink here and she could talk and learn from him again. So with that in mind she didn't hold back. Why hold back now when she'd go all out on a mission? Her only regret was not changing out of her dress. It slowed her down."Like this?" Lane asked quickly drawing the sword with her right hand like she had done it a thousand times then quickly closed the distance between them and swung the blade.

Mollec watched her draw first, and when she closed in was when he raised his blade and deflected the hit at the last second, the virus speeding up his brain to counter and move quick. Not what I mean sweetheart. Watch, this is quick drawing to a slash. He backstepped, and an enemy appeared to his side. It was a giant fat red alien with a war hammer. He had it follow him for about 20 feet and watched it swing multiple times, he weaved back and forth, dodging the hits while back stepping. When it went for an overhead swing he sheathed the blade, and when the hammer came down he backstepped again and clenched onto the handle, and in a split second the blade was out and cut the alien in half, then resheathed the blade as it burst into light and disappeared..
That is a quick draw slash. Try repeating that a few times, I admit it is rather difficult due to the blade getting stuck in the sheath but on the battlefield it helps. He back stepped in a few directions, and rolled forward, quick drawing the air. Sword fighting was the thing he practiced since he joined the guardian program. He used to only fight with swords, and when he was exiled he only used his claymore to conserve ammunition. Sword fighting was what he was best at, and he challenged reapers and destroyed them.Ahh, this brings back memories. We used to have so much fun.He drew the sword from its sheath, and two handed it, swinging at an incredible speed in the air.Alright Lane. I'm ready.

Lane nodded tuning out his comment about the past and zoned in on his demonstration. It took awhile for her to go from mimicking her moments to actually making them her own. Her technique still was flawed but it was evident the blade was quickly becoming an extension of herself and not just a katana.."Like this?" Lane asked once more as she swung again. It was obvious she still had a lot to learn. Unlike Zombie she was unbalanced when she swung. Then again it was to be expected. She'd never wielded a sword before and it was a completely different action. But she was patient continuing to practice her swing over and over again. Yet she never once resembled a broken record or a robot. Each stroke became a little faster or a little smoother than the last. But eventually Lane grew tired of repeating the action and began examining the sword. Though she vowed not to make the area a place of the past she couldn't help but ask, "Why didn't you ever tell me you were married?"

Tobias "Schnitter" Hamwood __________________________ _____________________________________ Yes I'm recklessbut I still care...
Tobias nonchalantly walked into the practice range, he cold dead eyes seem to look robotic and empty. Tobias wasn't the same after becoming a Harbinger, the augmentations left him like a machine. But whenever he saw Lane or others who were close to him, the tin man part of him would disappear and he would slightly return back to his awkward self. He looked around the practice range, he stepped inside one of the VR rooms and set the dial to Hell. He remembered one of the names on the side of the building, Jason Hamwood. His cousins were all Reapers, being a Harbinger was like becoming a Reaper but slightly weaker. He was like the second best rifle on a gun rack, never going to be completely favored. He sighed, as the door behind him closed and locked him inside, the room became dim and the surroundings began to materialize right in front of him. He took out his KINZGOV, the assault rifle felt light in his hand. He held the rifle close to his head, aiming down the sights and looking around the ruins that were created right in front of him. His breathing slowed down, his eyes were dead serious. A squad formed around him, they followed behind their leader. He heard a screech and Tobias turned around to see a a cloaked creature behind one his his squad mates; before he or anyone else could react, the creature moved fast. A scythe-like talon impaled his squad mate, the Terror screeched once more before disappearing. Tobias was too late, he knew that those talons were fatal. The other squad mates knelt down before their fallen comrade, uselessly trying to help him. Tobias's eyes widen when he heard more screeches.
Tobias turned around again, three more Terrors showed up surrounding his other squad mates. Tobias raised his assault rifle but watched helplessly as the quick Terrors decapitated all of the members of his team. Tobias fired his rifle at them, managing to shoot one but allowing the others to use their cloaking device and disappear. He recalled what he knew about Terrors, they were always close range; Tobias switched his rifle out and sprung out blades from his gauntlets. The Arma Blades glowed with blue light, showing that the plasma energy would make it even sharper than before. Tobias still managed to stay calm the entire time, it was what he was taught. Having being augmented as well, the boy was more machine and felt little to no feelings towards his fallen comrades. One of the Terrors screeched and picked up on of the comrades that had died, Tobias looked closely and his eyes widen as he noticed the familiar face. He dropped to his knees and screamed out loud, he still wasn't able to handle the Hell setting and the many times he was told, he never listened.
...Can't blame mefor my daddy issues

Mollec watched her train more and more with his wife's sword, and was clapping as she did better. Moral support was key to learning and it made it a lot easier on the trainee.Very good sweetie. You are treating that sword like a part of you, not a tool. You are doing great! A little miss underestimated I'd say.He smiled, but when the question of his wife came up, it seemed like his happiness dropped. The smile disappeared, and a tear formed in his eye. He wiped it quickly, and put a fake smile on.It was not only marriage... I had a kid too. After Hazeka died, it seemed like the baby did too. She died of an unknown disease about a month later. I became more aggressive with their passing. But I had you so I was happier then I was. In fact, I was planning on adopting you. After the dance. But my time with you was cut short after that mission when I was exiled, so I never got to tell you that.
He chuckled, and that was when he heard screaming. That was one thing the Materializing Light failed to do was silence screaming, and when Mollec heard that he yelled.Light off! Lane! Don't turn off the light in the other room! It'll only make it worse if you do it by hand! Don't come in either, the things you'd see would kill you!He watched the light go off and tore out of the room. He followed the screaming until he came to the room. He wiped the door open and dove in, closing the door behind him. When the light affected him he noticed the creatures flying above, and materialized a great sword. When one swooped down to attack the boy he full body swung and cut it in two. He made his way over to the boy and shouted to him.Get up and fight your nightmares kid! Don't be a push over to it! it only gets worse! Turn it off!Mollec picked up the boy and slung him over his shoulder as he changed the sword to a spear, and penetrated another terror as it came in for the attack. It wasn't his first time in hell. He had challenged it many times as zombie, and a few times as he was now, but it still messed with his brain too. He started running for a broke down building, and when he got there he kicked the door open and laid the kid inside as he heard screaming behind the door, by the predators stalking them.

Lane smiled clearly happy to know she was making some progress. But she couldn't help but shake her head at one of his later statements. A little miss underestimated? If that wasn't one of the corniest things she'd ever heard. But it helped keep her light and loose. At least until she heard had a kid too. Talk about being kept out a loop. What a paradox! His family was dead to the world and her family was dead to her. No wonder they were so close. When he admitted he was planning to adopt her if was difficult for her to stay in a training mindset. She never would've guessed that. Lane Zambumari, the daughter of Black Zombie. It certainly held quite an interesting ring to it. "...Are you still going to?" Lane asked over his chuckling. She still was a minor in the Den's eyes. It was never too late.
But then the screaming came. It pierced through the silence and Lane didn't need to go through hell to know it was Tobias. Her heart lurched in her stomach knowing she couldn't help him now. Unlike Zombie and Tobias Lane had never chosen the Hell setting. She'd been on Nightmare numerous times and defeated it, but could never get up the nerve to chose Hell. She certainly wouldn't anytime soon now. She could hear Mollec shouting and him and could only imagine explaining the kid he was screaming at was the individual she was crushing on. Talk about awkward. To be fair though she didn't know in the academy what he'd become. He wasn't always a machine and there was one point in time where he could lighten the mood. There was a time when his eyes weren't just some void shade of blue. They once held endless life behind him. There was a time when he was determined now to her he just seemed stubborn and wouldn't rest until his name was on the hall of fame. Deep down she blamed the Den. They took her Toby and turned him into a Harbinger. At times she could barely recognize him. But there were times when he was around her and his old self would emerge. IN those moments her heart would lurch with joy and she'd hope again he wouldn't fade back into the tin man. She'd hope she could actually tell him she loved him. But those moments were brief and the words never formed. How would a machine be something more than a friend? She may have needed glasses and had hope, but she was not blind. She stayed in the room hoping BZ could help him. Perhaps he'd listen to someone who actually made the Hall of Fame. Lane screamed out, "Are you alright? Just turn it off Toby!"

Tobias "Schnitter" Hamwood __________________________ _____________________________________ Yes I'm recklessbut I still care... The entire time he was being carried, his stubborn Harbinger self kept shouting curses towards his rescuer in his head, I don't need help from the likes of you! I can handle this on my own! When he was set down on the floor, he got back up and took out his dual pistols. The only words he uttered to his rescuer was a simple empty thanks, he didn't want to explain why he was screaming. Thinking about it himself, he realized that he was screaming because he saw the only person who mattered to him just die in front of him. As a Harbinger, he was trained and disciplined to n/ever hold any close bonds to others. He was supposed to be a machine, yet he successfully accomplished letting go of the deaths of fellow comrades, he couldn't let go of his close bonds to Lane. "I'm not turning this off..." He told him stubbornly, running back outside to face the Terrors. Tobias wasn't afraid of Terrors, but it was painful to watch Lane die in front of him by the Terrors. He kept telling himself that it was all fake and that it was simply just a simulation, but in the back of his head he knew that there was no way in convincing himself. The simulation was too real, Hell was a setting for the mentally trained. He ran towards on of the Terrors and fired his pistols at it, he killed on but the others disappeared again. Tobias switched back to his Arma Blades and he focused on his surroundings, using his enhanced vision, he tried to find any trace of the Terrors' movements.
He heard a screech and he turned around swiftly, a Terror had appeared from thin air and was flying right towards him with its talons pointed at him. Tobias moved but the Terror still managed to leave a cut on his shoulder, Tobias quickly reacted and decapitated the Terror. Tobias looked closely at the wound, each training level had a level of pain as well, Hell was the worst. The wound burned but fortunately for him, it wasn't too bad of a wound. People who use the Hell setting are aware of the dangers and risk, the Hell can actually kill you if you're not skilled. The pain in Hell is real and amplified even more. There was one last Terror left, it appeared and floated in front of Tobias. Looking closely, Tobias realized it wasn't a Terror, it was a Reaper donning a cloak. The Reaper laughed, taking out his dual swords and attacking Tobias. Tobias reacted quickly and blocked it with the blade on his gauntlet, "You're so weak. Becoming a Harbinger didn't man you up at all...I'm glad you didn't become a Reaper, you're too pathetic to be one." Tobias swung his other arm at the Reaper, the blade on his arm was blocked by the Reaper's second sword. The Reaper kicked Tobias, sending him back a little, the Reaper removed the hood to reveal his face. Tobias only glared at his cousin Jason, not showing surprise at his appearance. His cousin disappeared then reappeared behind Tobias, he held a sword close to Tobias's throat. "Why did you leave Lane to die like that? Why did you let your entire team die? You let some stranger help you?...You're weak!"
Mollec watched the kid be rude, cuss at him, and scream at him. He had half a mind to b***h slap the kid into reality, but smirked to himself at the empty thank you.Either mean it and say it or don't say it at all, kid. No need to be an a*****e and make me ******** sock you.He laughed, and watch bandits appear, and then his wife appear. He watched them attack her, and he pulled off his hoodie to reveal all the tattoos, scars, and previous new wounds. When the bandits started slaughtering Hazeka, he used the spear as a javelin and took out one, then rushed with his hands. He was dismembering the monsters using his bones, and started slicing the heads off them using friction and pressure. When he heard lane, he turned around. One who needs help is not weak, but one who needs help simply realizes that they cannot do everything alone. I hadn't helped him, only brought him back to the reality he oh so enjoys. He looked at Jason, then at the boy, and started walking to a door. Now boy, bust his happy a** before I bust yours. He left the light and exited the door, and came out to see lane. Now, lets let that boy take care of himself. He will be fine. And if you want me to adopt you, then it shall be so. We can get it done tonight. How is that?Mollec sat down and pulled lane onto his lap, and rested his head on her shoulder. He put his hoodie back on, and rested for a bit.

Lane smiled brightly though her stomach was in knots knowing Tobias was still going through hell. Still she was happy to get adopted. "I'd like that. That sounds awesome. I'm not calling you anything different though BZ. Don't think I've forgotten we still need to pick up your shots and start looking at carpet and paint after this either." Lane hugged him back for a moment but her worry consumed her. "...That boy has a name BZ. It's Tobias. Tobias "Schnitter" Hamwood __________________________ _____________________________________ Yes I'm recklessbut I still care... Soon after, Tobias stepped out of the room and collapsed onto the floor. Fighting with Jason proved to be a challenge, he didn't even wound his opponent badly. He staggered back onto his feet but he fell back on one knee, "I-I need to go back in there." He completely neglected his own wounds, "I'm a failure of my own Avocation if I can't prove myself." Tobias muttered, he looked up at Lane and gave her a weak smile. His head fell back onto the floor with a thud, his body moved up and down as he sucked in air and exhaled. He was more stubborn than Lane normally remembered, he was not going to allow a failure get to him. But he wasn't like this all the time, before, he was alright with failure and he would try again after he learned where he messed up. This Tobias was rash and didn't even bother to look back at his mistakes.
