The Guardian's record show that:
Tobias comes from a family of famous Reapers, unlike his cousins Jason and Marshal Hamwood, Tobias was one who was born a Groundling. Tobias kept the fact of being a Groundling as a secret, working hard to appear like any other Forerunner. Tobias has some slight daddy issues, his father wasn't always home, as a Reaper he was always on missions. His father also didn't want him to be a Reaper because it would only take Tobias away from his family. Though as a Groundling, he was still imperfect to be a Reaper, one had to be perfect in genes, easily trained, and disciplined Forerunner. Tobias still worked to become a Reaper, during his time in the academy, at that time he lived on his own in the housing district. He befriended a girl training to be an Assassin. Lane was a girl that Tobias got a long with pretty well, the first time the two met was in an air vent. Both were hiding from their class, Tobias decided to sneak out of the academy with Lane and went on a dangerous mission to waste time. The two returned successful but got in trouble for ditching class and taking equipment without asking. On graduation, Tobias was assign Harbinger. One of the first Harbingers to be tested, he was given prototype equipment with all the other First batch of Harbingers.
