Cami's twitter requests had been for unarmed sparring, but Taym, bent on finding people who didn't terrify him that might also be willing to beat him up for the sake of his own career advancement, had tentatively invited her to go a few rounds with a human punching bag, explaining briefly that he'd been told to work on his defensive technique (or lack thereof). If it goes well, he'd said, maybe next time bring a friend. Easier to do 2 vs. 1.Training field jitters never went away, which is why he preferred on the whole to hone his aggression on the shadow run, or out in the field. Sparring with other hunters was an exercise in constant misery--in self-consciousness, in the violent anger that never failed to get triggered halfway in and reduce him to self-loathing by the time one of them was on the ground. But maybe working defensively would be a safeguard. And maybe, too, would choosing an hour besides the semi-abandoned ones he normally did. There were clusters of trainees and hunters dotted across the fields, assaulting dummies and one another, and Taym stood off to one side and smoked and scanned the crowds for his appointed opponent. Ol-j-man I figure one or the other of them can grab Nora? I'll see what Nessy does xD

Even on a bad day when she wore more black than anything else, Cami was hard to miss. Today was one of those days when she was head to toe in nothing but the mournful color, the only relief the blinding white of her coat. It was becoming a habit to not spar in anything but the voluminous gold-trimmed white since someone had made the argument to her once that when the time came she would be wearing it. Why get used to shooting and fighting without? Taym was the easiest person to find with the way he lurked at the edge of the field, smoking casually, looking for the world like he was on his literal last leg. When he'd expressed the idea of being her protector in a two on one match she had been skeptical at best, yet the thought was intriguing. Bix had mentioned it at his orientation, or had it been Peyton? Someone. No one on her usual roster had been able to make it this afternoon due to other responsibilities and/or just plain not wanting to so she was down to last resort. Thankfully, as she approached the skinny man at the edge of the fields, she spotted a familiar face. Giving a sharp whistle, she jerked her head invitingly. "Oi! Nora! Wanna help me out with something?" Turning to Taym her grin was wide. "A friend. Per suggestion." Sort-of.

Again!!
Whump. The dummy's head went flying as Beatrix barked and did the mental equivalent of running around in gleeful circles.
FETCHFETCHFETCHFETCH THE BALL AHAHAHAHAAA~! I think you're getting better!
"I think I'm going deaf," Nora grumbled as she backed off and let the hammer fall back down with a sharp exhale. She'd had no shortage of opponents recently (and what glroious practices those were), and the immobile kind was proving to be slowly ruined for her because of it. What good was aiming on a still target? She'd gotten the hang of her weapons just fine, thanks; it wasn't a gun, sadly, but she made do.
. . . Did she have to worry about sewing that head back on, though? Damn it.
Nora was wiping her forehead with the back of her arm and dipping down to grab her waterbottle when she heard the whistle. Whipping her head towards the sound, she broke into a little smile as she spotted Cami. "Oy yourself. What d'you need?" The other sun was addressing someone she couldn't recall seeing before, the sort that reminded her of a gaunt scarecrow. He was given a curious look as she uncapped her bottle and started guzzling.

He gave Cami a withering "really?" look, and attempted to save face by making it look like this had been his idea. Which it had, indirectly, but there was no point in trying to reason with someone like Taym, as dead set as it was possible to be on being negative. "She wants you to hit her. Or possibly, she wants to hit you. I'm not sure which." And he would--what? Stand by and watch. He clarified, summoning his weapon (small enough to seem appropriate for him, but far too elegant) and hoisting it demonstratively: "Defensive training."

For a second Camille shrank back beneath Taym's gaze before she remembered she didn't have to be afraid anymore. She wasn't the freshest meat. She had friends, she was starting to get her feet, and to let someone intimidate her into being what they wanted her to be? No. Not going to happen. Still, her tone was a little sheepish as she nodded at Nora. "Bit of both though I think you might have a little more luck, Nora. I've been having trouble getting shots off in one-on-one spars. Taym volunteered to be the guard but we needed someone to attack. Feeling up for it?" Not really waiting for an answer, because if Nora said no she'd have to just grab someone else, the brown-skinned trainee tapped the arrow around her neck. "Wake up, Ki. Time to train." Sleepily the bow materialized in her hands, arms stretching to take the weight and familiarize herself again with the feel of it. "So, really, I want you to try to hit me but hit Taym instead. By the way, Taym, this is Nora. Nora, Taym." It was probably a good idea to introduce everyone. Whoops.

"Huh." With half the bottle drained in one go, she tossed it off to the side and considered the pair. "More interesting than I've had all day," Nora decided amicably after a moment, hiding her pride in Cami's efforts to push herself. "Having to worry about two targets puts a nice spin on things anyway. Well met, then, Taym." Normally she would have extended a hand to shake, but for now she reached over and picked up her hammer, twirling it in her fingers a few times.
"Alright, so, defensive training. Yes or no to charges? 'Fraid mine's a bit of a doozy if it decides to hit," she told them, "but it'd give you a run for your Moon money if it does."

He glanced at Cami to see what she had to say about it and then, in true Taym fashion, made the decision for her: "Charges. We're both covered." He headed for an open spot, adding absently and belatedly and in a mechanical fashion that was frankly a little bit rude: "Nice to meet you." When he turned it was obvious that the crescent-tips that had been visible on the sides of his coats belonged, not to a pair of moons, but to a pair of crossed scythes. It was an odd exercise for a Death trainee--especially an intermediate pairing up with two new kids and asking them to facilitate his newbie's needs--but then again it was always a good idea to cover all the bases. The Moon money comment got none in return, correction or otherwise. xxNesshime I'ma go ahead and roll a defensive roll but if you wanna squeeze in a couple more non-fighty posts please feel free :O just wanted to get it out of the way in case you don't! xxOl-j-man Oh and also if you wanna go ahead if you guys decide to plow right ahead since post order as it is atm might be a little bit awk?

"Gotcha." Strange for a Death fellow to want to play defensive, but hey: being diverse was never a bad thing on the battlefield, and Cam sounded like she needed her own practice as well.
Hefting the hammer, Nora shifted her weight and, after finding her rhythm again, tested Taym's defense with a quick swing. She wasn't fooled for one second about the size of the dagger, not when everything there was powered by creatures of nightmare it seemed.

Cami couldn't help but grin a bit at the idea of charges. She hadn't quite gotten to the point with Kidana that she'd been able to unleash a charged attack but the revenant had informed her of how it should work which, in and of itself, was thrilling. Not even hesitating to put some distance between herself and Nora the magenta-haired trainee scampered back six paces and took aim. It was like hitting a target, almost, albeit a moving one. The hard part was not hitting Taym. Nonetheless Kidana's advice held true and the arrow flew towards the other girl. "Boom." HP: 40/40 DMG: 6 Charge: 1/3

Taym, at least, assisted matters somewhat by seeming altogether more focused on not being in the line of fire than he was in actually providing any substantial defense. "This would be easier," he observed to neither of them in particular, sounding like he was accusing them both of a crime, "if I were defending her." Which was true, but then again there wasn't much point in getting practice in via the easiest possible route. He was slight and nimble, and perhaps if he'd been fending off arrows rather than hammer blows what he lacked in reach he could have made up for in being in the right place at the right time. As it was the best he could do was to attempt to put himself in the path of Nora's swings in such a way that he bought Cami time without getting flattened himself. "Bah, no worries, scarecrow. I handled a one shot from a veteran without falling over, so this'll be like a violent little walk in the park in comparison."
She grunted, more for show than from actual pain. Nora flashed Cami a grin as she shrugged the arrow off. "There we go! But--"
With the test swing done, she had a better understanding of the force needed to break through that defense and immediately acted on it. Grip tightening, she lunged forward and brought the hammer down with a heavier overhead swing, Beatrix cackling with glee as she fed on both of their Fears.
"That feels more like a boom to me," Nora finished airily, pulling herself back again. "So! Mind if I ask how this came about?" "This" being how they knew each other, of course.
(( No probs, rejam~ I'm a little delayed myself ))

Well at least she had Nora's appreciation! Cami couldn't help but be torn between the appreciation of someone who had already found fault in her and the current fault-finding that Taym was doing. Still she was determined to get as much out of the spar as possible and tried to fire off another arrow while talking. Aiming was harder with another body in the way, even if overall Taym didn't have that much to aim around. It was surprisingly idea. "I meet everyone on Twitter. That or by screaming my head off and drawing attention in the middle of a critical mission. One or the other but never anything other than that." Which wasn't entirely true. She'd informally met America by being drive-by smooched and Maebe...in much the same way. "I've been meaning to get practice like this in. Do you know how hard it is to be a ranged attacker in a one on one?!" HP: 38/40 DMG: 1 Charge: 2/3 xxrejam I assume Taym is taking the damage? I don't quite know how this works lmao.

"Twitter is occasionally good for something besides s**t-stirring," Taym agreed drily, eyeing Nora and attempting, somewhat badly, to forecast her next maneuver while simultaneously attempting to keep a line of fire open for Cami. Having two targets to focus on was oddly comforting, tying up more of his attention, giving his thoughts less room to restlessly roam around and tend towards the violent, the hateful. It was, in short, something he could probably get used to. "Let me know if your shield cracks," he added abruptly, in response to a wordless notice from Fionnghal. "Either of you." "Your bow's got pointy ends, don't it? Just stick 'em with those," she suggested helpfully as the arrow nicked her. "Come on, give it a go, my shield's just fine!"
But it really was a technological age . . . She wasn't a big fan of staying on the phone, or at least just wasn't well-versed enough. "Guess I should try to pop in every now and then, eh?" Nora said as she swung again, hammer clanging against dagger. "Things move a bit fast on social media. I'd rather face-to-face personally, but I suppose when you're stuck in the basement you need every outlet you can get. Anything juicy been going on?"

Trying to stab inwards she failed utterly, the edge skittering off of Nora's shield without doing any damage to it at all. Was her angle wrong? Or perhaps the force? Math had never been much of her strong suit and while she'd excelled at physical education (especially volleyball) getting into fights where you were stabbing someone was never part of the curriculum. Absently she made a sound agreeing to tell Taym if she was feeling like some serious pain but she wasn't sure it would get that far. Cami's shield hadn't cracked as-yet and she wasn't keen to know what that felt like. Nora's question, however, had Cami grinning a bit at her. "I'm not trapped in the basement anymore but you knew that. Mostly it seems like everyone's obsessed with everyone else's sex life. People thought I was banging Otto which says a lot." She seemed, if not repulsed, at least disappointed that making a close male friend immediately meant you were banging them. But she had bigger concerns at the moment. "Am I even stabbing right? How do you stab someone? I swear to God I should have stabbed someone before this." HP: 38/40 DMG: 0 CHG: 2/3
