The foothills of a mountain in late spring. A clear day, the sun is shining and warm. Birds sing in nearby trees. A gentle brook burbles pure and bright. The path is well worn, more rock than dirt, and meandering.

Akos was enjoying the nice day. High enough into the mountains that the sun was warm but not too hot, he enjoyed listening to the bird calls as he walked. Flying would be quicker, and he had flown some this morning. But the two little sprites he cared for didn't care for it. Jack couldn't keep up with Akos' flight speed, and Anne kept making distressed noises. Akos couldn't be sure if it was the speed or that she was afraid of being dropped.

Yesterday he had found a nice secluded copse of trees to leave them in while he stretched his wings for a bit. But Akos needed to keep moving forward. He was looking for others who were like him. And while the little sprites slowed him down, he felt responsible for them. So he took care to keep them safe and make them comfortable.

Besides, walking might not be the fastest way to travel, but the journey was lovely. And he could keep a better eye on the skies and hopefully see another with wings and feathers like his own.

For several months, she had searched for them; had searched for the brothers that she had fallen for. The brothers that she had left her title, her rank amongst her family, to find. She flicked her wings lightly as she wandered quietly away from the last forest she had looked through. Her tail fave a small flick, moving out of the way of her legs as she wandered away. Xolotlcoatl hated this. She hated not knowing where they were. And now Shoshoni had left her alone to the world again. Her ears pinned back slightly as she tried to figure out what was going on. Her eyes flickered down toward her hooves for a moment. Perhaps if she took to her human form..

Shaking her head, Xolotl sighed. No. No no no. That wasn't the option. She hadn't attempted that form since she took on the form of this... this "Soquili". She had kept strong in her ways, and searched and loved and lost. And now she was searching again. Her eyes flickered quietly about the area, tail giving another small flick as she shook out her feathers, causing the bells on her headdress to jingle lightly. She paused for a moment, before dipping her head down and nibbled lightly at the grass near her hooves.

She didn't know what she was going to do now... Keep searching? Find the stallion that had stolen her heart? Hunt down those that would be causing problems.. those that could cause mayhem and try and lead them on the right path. Her wings fluttered lightly in her thoughts, long hair draping over her shoulders and near her legs. She sighed, before lifting her eyes toward the sky some, head tilting to the side.

Akos sighs as he walks, eyes tired of straining at the too bright sky, hoping to see feathers. A sound not too far ahead draws his attention. But for all that there were no trees, the rolling hills of the land made visibility interesting.

So Akos just keeps walking, hoping whatever made the noise is both still there and not a skinwalker when he crests the hill.

A few steps later and his head is high enough to see over the next hill. Akos draws in a startled breath. That mare . . . she has feathers! And is that a beak?

His brain shutting down in hopeful joy, Akos starts running towards the mare. It doesn't occur to him that it might look like an attack or otherwise frighten her. She might be able to tell him what he is! The upset chimes of Anne in the lantern and Jack as he falls behind don't register to Akos, but they're sure to make for an interesting sight.

Xolotl shifted somewhat, her ears flicking up. After a few minutes, she thought she heard something. The Angeni frowned, tilting her head lightly to the side. She looked around for several second, before shaking it off, and continued forward. She paused when she saw an apple tree, her wings beating slightly. She placed her front hooves on the tree, and stretched up to grab one from the tree. She lowered herself, eating it quickly, before her ears flicked up at a strange sound...

The mare tilted her head, and frowned when she saw a stallion moving toward her so quickly. Xolotlcoatl flared her wings some, beating them a few time as she reared up as if in warning. The bells jingled lightly at the movement, before she lowered herself down and let out a sort of whinny of warning. If someone was coming to attack her, she would be ready and willing to attack back with full force. She didn't want to, didn't like to, but she would if she had to. Her red eye narrowed slightly, before she stomped her hoof a few time, warning the approaching Soquili that she had taken notice of his presence.

Akos pulls up, her reaction making clear what an idiot he's being. He looks around frantically for a moment but sees nowhere to set the lantern. Taking it into one clawed foot, he ignores Anne's angry chiming and Jack buzzing around his head.

"Wait, please. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you, I just . . . " Akos stops, shaking his head and taking a deep breath to try to clear his head. "Hello, I'm sorry. I was just excited. I've been traveling for a while and was beginning to give up hope. It's so nice to meet you."

Between the distance still between them and his excited hope, Akos hasn't realized this mare doesn't look as much like him as he had first thought.

Xolotl frowned some, her ears pinning back a bit. She stomped her hoof a few more times, before seeing the stallion stop short. She tilted her head some, the bells letting out a soft chime at the movement, before her eyes flickered down toward the small... bugs? The Angeni blinked, her ears flicking up at the noises, before she focused once more on the stallion. He seemed quite excited. She nodded her head slightly, causing the bells to jingle once more.

"It is all right. But perhaps next time you should refrain from charging toward another so quickly." She said softly. She was a soothing mare, often times not getting angry unless she has to. She didn't like to be firm or chastising. She found it to be more effective to gently correct others, rather than snap and gripe. Her wings shifted along her back, all four of them folding lightly against her back and sides. "What are you so excited about?" She asked curiously. The Angeni was confused by most Soquili still; they were different than she had expected.

Akos nods, "Yes, of course. I wasn't thinking. I've been searching for so long for anyone else with a feathered mane and tail and a . . . " Akos's voice trails off as he really begins to see her. Headress not beak, with feathers attached, hooves not claws . . . four wings . . .

Akos' breath leaves in a large sigh that deflates the stallion. "I'm sorry. My mistake. I . . . I was just . . . looking for someone like me." Heart heavy, he puts the lantern back in his beak and turns to go.

Akos is normaly very friendly and outgoing, but the weight of crushed hopes seems to be making him as thoughtless as the hope itself. Maybe he was alone, a single mutated oddity. And in that moment, even though he knows he has an adoptive family he can go home to, Akos feels horrribly alone.

Xolotl blinked curiously as she watched the stallion. He seemed so excitable. Her ear flicked slightly at a sound not too far off, before he focused on her once more. She tilted her head slightly, before focusing on him again. Within a blink of an eye he was deflated and upset. She blinked several times, uncertain as to what was going on. What could possibly be wrong. She frowned some, her nostrils flaring slightly, before calming down. Oh... Someone like him? Her head cocked to the side, before she took a half step forward.

"Someone like you?" She questioned curiously. Though he seemed to be leaving. She frowned slightly at the way he was so broken hearted about it. Her tail gave a small flick, before she paused to wait. She wasn't going to force him to turn and talk to him, but if he wished to, she was there and willing to talk to him and figure out how she could help; it was her duty as an Angeni.

Akos pauses, he thinks about just walking away, but he knows he has already been insufferably rude to this mare and his consience won't let him compound it further. Turning back, he again takes the lantern in a claw. "I . . . yes. Someone like me. Someone who can tell me about myself, about my family. My birth family."

"I just . . . I need to know."
Akos sighs. "I am sorry. I was terribly rude. But I have been looking for so long and for a moment I thought I had found . . . " he shrugs, "family."

For several moments, the mare stared. Xolotlcoatl had no idea what he was rambling on about. She tilted her head, her eyes flickering, curious, before she shifted slightly and flicked an ear. She took a half step forward, toward him, before pausing and frowning. Her ear flicked again, before she smiled lightly. She could see it now. See what he needed. She tilted her head, before pointing her nose toward the east, her eyes locked.

"That way is a place known as "The Flock". I do not know if you have heard of it, sir, but it is a place of creatures much like your kind." She explained, before turning back toward the stallion. She tilted her head, large ears flicking upward, eyes locked on the stallion. "I do not know much else about your breed... I am still learning about my own, as it is. I apologize for not being of more help to you." She said lightly.
