Working with Angels

Angels should not be sugarcoated or otherwise assumed to be aligned to ones notion of benevolence. There angels of death and destruction as well as of healing and strength.

I work with angels within the context of ceremonial magick and the entities I work with that are considered angelic are thus:

1) The four elemental arch-angels - Michael, Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel
2) The seven planetary archangels (some overlap with 1, as some angels have duel stations)
3) The Enochian planetary angels
4) The planetary intelligences.
5) Angels of the days, hours, mansions of the moon and decans
6) The Holy Guardian Angel

1) I work with these angels when working with elemental forces. I usually work with them when performing either the "Banishing Ritual of The Pentagram" or the "Invoking Ritual of The Pentagram" (The Angels are called in both and aren't the part either referred to as invoked or banished.) To give you a practical example, if I where asked to go purify someones house or get rid of a malicious entity I would do the banishing rite. Meaning I would banish the malicious entity and then call the archangels at the directions to bring an orderly and harmonious atmosphere to the room, house etc. I get rid of the entity and then I repair the damage it has done.

Now they are also guardians of the quarters with the watchtowers working through them so they bring order to my circle aligning it to my true will. In the invoking rite they bring balance to my spiritual, mental, emotional and physical bodies/vehicles. They help me keep those aspects of myself disciplined.

They also keep in check the four Daemon Kings also attributed to the four directions. The Daemon Kings ruling over other Daemons esp. those of the Goetia which serve them directly.

2) The planetary Archangels; I invoke these angels when working with the archetypal planetary energies. That is, when I want to invoke a planetary current and the agencies of that office. Invoking Gabriel for example, who is also the planetary angel of the Moon, I have influence over all things attributed to that planet. This is regarding office, they have the authority to set something in motion.

3) Not much to say here, these are planetary angels often called in the Enochian system. They are actually angels though unlike many of the Enochian entities who are acknowledged as angels but technically aren't considered as such in the occult.

4) The planetary intelligences are the overall personified order and harmony of the planetary planes and forces. Allot of people get them confused with the Arch-Angels. The Arch-Angels are responsible for things on the arch-angelic level on the linear depiction of the tree while the Intelligences are more of the circular pathos of the tree as cast, being all en-composing, operating in each of the four hierarchical worlds. When you invoke the intelligences you are working with the angelic within each aspect of your self and the kingdom. With the archangels you are operating at a specific level whereas with the intelligence you are working within the grander scheme in the context of that planetary archetype. They are the higher functioning of the circle, the direction above and can be compared to the forebrain in terms of operation. The Daemons or "Planetary forces" are raw, blind forces and potentialities. they correspond to the lower"lizard" or instinctual brain by comparison. The Intelligence is the discipline and aspirations of the circle. Graphiel, the Intelligence of Mars is therefore the guiding discipline of a Martian circle. I first invoke the Intelligence and then secondly evoke the daemon. This ties into a much larger dynamic than working with the Arch-angels alone. A most potent means of changing a paradigm, especially if the corresponding Olympic spirit is to be called.

5. The days are named after the planets/gods of old. They also correspond to the archangels by virtue of planetary correspondence. The hours of the day also have planetary correspondence. Some seals, charms, tools and other such things require consecration at different times, when the permutation of natural energies is ripe. The order of each of these moments is personified by various angels regarding various units of time. They are all different messengers of the spirit- for there is a place and time for everything under heaven. This is also so for the degrees of the moon (and other celestial bodies but that's beyond the scope of this post). Lastly the same goes for the signs of the zodiac and their decans, all having their own angels.

6. The HGA works in a similar way to a planetary intelligence but it is not of any one circle. It is your connection to what is called the supernal light; of Providence. It is essentially your personified connection to "God". It is the personification of your true will, in that it is that fulfillment which you are always aspiring to while the Daemon is that which you are always growing from. The true will is that will which understands and is at one with it's nature. It is at once, the individual and the Communal "I/me". Yet the Path and the Pathworking are the same and the HGA is manifest within the sights of the horizon. Once there is no longer a journey in play there is no HGA as it is the guiding transitory aspect of that which is known as the higher self.
