Over time, the members of the village have successfully created four foot thick wall of bamboo and stone around the village and village areas, with the wall standing roughly ten feet tall at it's lowest point. As a result, this gate is the only convenient entrance or exit to the village, and it is constantly watched by at least one ninja of at least chuunin rank. The walls are constantly patrolled, and anyone caught going over the wall is automatically deemed suspicious and captured for questioning.

She had spent days trailing through the bamboo forest, cutting the shafts to make it easier to find her way around. When she left her clan, she was told that this was a safe heaven, that she had to carry on her clan’s tech savy and aid shinobi all around the world to thrive; all who arrive, survive; that was what they were told. Where she was from, there wasn’t just a kill on sight order against any shinobi that they may have encountered, the emperor and daimio outright began waging a war against the ninja, slaughtering every last one of them, or at least most of them. Those shinobi from the east managed to scatter, among them many of her clan members. In her hand there was the single knife she had been using all along, the blade had begun to dull, waste away, but she still gripped it firmly for she was finally out of that green prison. She had wondered it for almost a week, on the fourth day she ran out of food, the following day her water supply ran dry, save for the scattered showers that came here and there that showed her mercy. On the seventh day of her woodland journey she had all but given up, succumbed to her fate, unsure if she was walking in circles again because she had stopped marking her way through the forest. In her desperation she fell down on her knees but fought back the urge to cry; she had to conserve water, she wasn’t going to die here, and if she was indeed meant to die there, she wasn’t going to pick up the pace of her inevitable death; she could do something to fight it, more so than what she had already done. As her body laid there on the ground she could see a structure rising from the ground, very rudimentary, but it fit the descriptions of what this heaven may look like.

“I’ll be damned, I almost went on ahead and killed myself this close to this place.” She said shaking her head, her voice soft like the song of a bird sweet and gentle, but like the shriek of a hawk, determined and dangerous. She pushed against the ground and felt her meager muscles shake; physical strength was never her strong suit, much less now after not eating for a couple of days. She was exhausted, but was glad that everything was almost done now. She dragged her feet as her cream hair his against her face in the same rhythm she moved. “HEY!” She yelled coming into view of the guards, her kunai still in hand, wearing a weakened smile. She wasn’t about to just march in, she knew it was suicide, they were shinobi, she had to make her presence well known, although as far as she knew, they had been following her all along and was placed under an illusion until she checked out as not being a threat. She was just 12, what degree of threat could a child pose to an assortment of ninja? In all reality, a high amount, but not this one; she wasn’t exactly going to be a weapon, but she wasn’t going to work against them. She would stick around as long as it would benefit her.

It would come as no surprise to the guards that saw this girl that she was exhausted, armed, clearly by the knife in her hand, but exhausted. She slowly approached, keeping her kunai always visible.
“Do I have to pledge some allegiance thing, or will you let me in without it? Because I am not going to be doing that without knowing what I'm signing up for.” She said in high tone of voice so she could be heard by everyone that was there; even her voice was tired, but she stood there, defiant against what her body begged her to do, which was just collapse and give in. She would have none of that. Her family had given her a task; not only for her to live, but for her to pass on the knowledge that they once had and thrived with.

The guards looked up, a bit surprised to see a young girl approaching the gates. They were less surprised though, to see she looked half dead. The two chuunin looked between themselves, and both shrugged. One waved for the girl to approach and reached into his bag to draw out a clipboard he'd been given when he was assigned this post, while the other made a half turn in the opposite direction and pressed his finger against his neck, just under the right ear. "We've got another one." he spoke, as if talking to thin air. It wasn't as common as it had been a year ago, but even now they still occasionally had people, usually young teens wander into the village, having trekked through the forest following the rumors of a ninja village. Those that made it were immediately inducted into the academy. Those that didn't, well, they were usually eaten by the wildlife, but if the ninja found them they were buried. "Yes sir, Jin is checking her in now... Yes sir, understood." the man spoke again several seconds after his first speech. All of the shinobi permanently assigned to the patrol squad were tattooed with a radio seal connecting directly to the squad commander so that they could have instant communication and coordination, and one of his own duties having been assigned to the gate was to immediately report any new arrivals.

While his partner contacted the commander, Jin waited for the girl to approach him as he'd indicated. "Name?" he questioned immediately, waiting only long enough for a response before asking the next question on his list, and filling it out as answers were given.

Name:
Age:
Reason for visiting:
Previous Training: (Ask only if subject indicates a desire to join the village.)

The questions are all asked by the guard, so please answer them in RP format rather than simply filling out the form. You're making this a bit of a challenge, since now I need to think of an excuse to stick you directly into the academy rather than go through the whole introductory phase stuff, that got us stuck last time.

Oh, and your format is displaying the wrong amount of money.

She approached him but never put the weapon away, it wasn’t going to be much and if they wanted to hurt her odds are they would have done it already, but better safe than sorry. “My name is Alisse Donyetsk; it’s written A-L-I-S-E D-O-N-E-T-S-K.” She ran her left hand through her hair and swallowed, her throat feeling dry like a desert. The next question rolled by, she didn’t mind answering, but she wouldn’t be all too happy that she was being questioned by some guy that was holding a post at the village gates, but, she also understood that they needed security in order to make sure the village would thrive. “I’m 12; just a kid.” She answered to him, removing her hand from her hair, crossing her arms and tapping her foot, getting impatient. “Reason for visiting? Are you for real?!” She paused and examined the man’s face. “Look, I’ve traveled long enough and you’ve probably been standing there day after day. You’re a shinobi just like me; you know what this place is, and you know why I’m here. I want to live, I am here for safe heaven, because I will not idly stand by and wonder a world where I can be killed in any corner. If I die it’ll be because I am ready to die, and I am not ready to die by the hand of an overzealous emperor and daimio; as for training, I wasn’t of age when my people were killed I only know so much. We can sit here and talk all day, or you can let me in.”

Jin looked up as the girl suddenly went off on a tangent when he asked why she was here, but rather than directly react he shrugged and sketched down "Refugee" on his notes. Since she volunteered the information before he could ask it, he also put down "Minimal" under previous training. Looking down at the paper again, he began to read aloud.

"I the undersigned agree that by signing this form I give the village council the right to take any action they deem necessary should I be deemed a threat to the secrecy and safety of the village. Such actions may include but are not limited to Memory Modification, Imprisonment, or Summary Execution. I understand that any action taken against me by the village will be limited and equal to my own transgression in severity."

As he finished reading, Jin looked back up to the girl and, spinning the clipboard around held out the pen for her to take, tapping a dotted line on the bottom of the form. "Sign here." he intoned, staring dully at the girl.

Not a single response to a thing she said, the nerve of this guard guy! She would take care of him at some point, even if it was leaving him without a job. Then again, she probably wasn’t the first one he heard with a story like her’s or similar, so she shouldn’t judge him, but just because she shouldn’t didn’t mean she wouldn’t. “Give me that.” She growled at him, swiping the leaflet from him, reading it herself to make sure she wasn’t given something that stated something completely opposite, or leaving anything out. These were ninja she was dealing with, they were crafty, sneaky, they couldn’t be trusted, even though she was one herself. “This seems reasonable.” She said sarcastically. ” This council thing can turn me into a different person if they think I’m a threat…” She was inclined to say no and just leave, but in the state she was, that wasn’t an option, not even a bad one, it was simply out of the question. “I don’t really have a choice.” She said under her breath, grabbing the pen and signing her name where he had instructed her. She handed his things back and looked at him straight in the eye. “Any suggestion of where I should go?” She inquired, hoping he could serve of some assistance to her.

Jin's dead look turned slightly angry for a moment at the girl's words about the contract. Not anger directed at her, but at the council itself, and in fact, the contract. Because that policy was exactly why he was stuck here day in and day out, dealing with newcomers and giving directions. He'd stepped out of line, and this was his punishment. A pathetic life as a pathetic person. Sighing, he cleared that from his mind and returned to his neutral appearance as the girl returned the clipboard and asked for directions. Rather than respond, he checked the clipboard to confirm the form was signed properly, nodded briefly, and walked away, stepping into a small sheltered area with a desk and starting on filling out the papers he'd have to deliver to the council later without another word or even glance at the girl.

The other guard rolled his eyes as Jin walked away, and stepped towards Alise. "Don't mind him. He's never been a very pleasant fellow." he shrugged. "Since you're signed in, you're free to explore as you like, just don't go anywhere that's marked as restricted, or go walking into people's houses. personally I'd suggest heading to the housing area," He pointed towards a path a bit further beyond the gate, which led directly to the village homes. "And finding a place to set up. There's no free rides, so you'll have to build yourself a house, or sleep in a tent. If you don't have one you can go to the storehouse and ask for one, but they do charge for them." he explained, turning his arm to point down another path that would eventually lead to the storehouse.

She caught on to the change in his eyes; something had triggered a great deal of anger within this seemingly dead man, looks like this place had something to it that it wasn’t visible at a first glance, she knew it was too good to be true, but then again, maybe it wasn’t the village but something she said. She was being a bit of a brat with the way she was treating him, he had no reason to be happy with her after all, she had just marched in here, half dead, and then treated him like a rag the entire time she talked, so it was only natural that he was mad at her; any ill thoughts about the village had their foundation on the fact that the place was described as too good to be true, and when something was too good to be true, it usually was. Her eyes quickly turned to the other guard, he caught her by surprise, but he seemed nice enough for her not to have a nasty attitude, although she was tired and hungry, so there wasn’t a reason for her not to be that way. “Alright, I guess nothing is ever for free.” She said to the guard, walking in through the gates, walking toward the village itself, she didn’t know much about anything, so she would just wonder around until she’d find what she was looking for, not like she would find it for a long time.
[ If anyone watches TWD, I’m having her take the village as if it were Terminous…]

Shikaku whistled to himself as he approached the gate, two rabbits bouncing against his leg, legs tied up in ninja wire. One of the first things they'd learned when they decided to stay in the village was that you had to take care of yourself, because nobody was going to do it for you. That was fine with them, since they'd been doing that for the most part as long as he could remember anyways. So he'd convinced an older villager to teach him how to hunt, and the man had taught him to bait and set snares. Nobody would teach him how to hunt large game yet, claiming he was too small, but he'd practiced trying to stalk the deer in the forest anyways. He hadn't dared try to take one down yet though, since he didn't have any weapons that could do it. His traps though had been quite successful, and he always managed to catch two or three small critters whenever he went out to hunt. Enough to eat for a day, two if he got lucky and caught enough.

Stopping briefly at the gate, he waved to the guards on duty before carrying on, just so they knew he was back. He'd managed to slip in unnoticed once, a few months back, and the patrol squad had actually formed a search party that night. It was touching really that they cared that much about him, but the verbal lashing he'd gotten when they found out he'd been in the village the whole time had been enough to convince him not to do that again, even if the first time had been an accident. Moving on, Shikaku set his sights for home. He was in the mood for stew tonight, so he'd have to get the rabbits skinned and cooking pretty soon, which meant he needed to get home first.

"I still don't see how the waterfall is supposed to help." Segare's voice floated out from the forest, causing the guards on duty to look at each other before quickly straitening themselves up to look their best for the returning council members. It wouldn't do to get caught even appearing to be slacking when the bosses rolled by.

"I mean, if it's all about focus, then isn't the water falling on you going to be rather distracting?" Segare continued, raising his hands in a wide shrug. After their first spar about a year ago, he and Luo had taken to sneaking out occasionally to spar a bit when things were going slow, and today on the way home, the conversation had turned to the art of meditation. Luo meditated constantly, as far as Segare could tell, while he himself only did so on occasion, when he needed to calm himself or focus particularly hard on some problem or other. It helped, to be sure, but never really made him want to do it all the time. Too boring, just sitting there for hours.

As they passed the gates, Segare's gaze strayed upwards, instinctively seeking the sun as it was near impossible to spot from within the forest canopy.
"s**t!" he cut out when he finally found it, several degrees further along it's rotation than expected. "I'm late for the class. Finally gonna be teaching the kids to access their chakra today!" He'd been looking forward to this almost as much as the kids had. Ninjutsu were awesome, chakra theory was boring. Finally getting to step beyond the theory and into actual ninjutsu was going to be great.

Segare took off at a run, moving several paces in the direction of the academy before suddenly stopping, spinning around and bouncing backwards on one foot to keep from toppling from the sudden cessation of movement.
"Hey, why don't you come along today Luo? I could use an assistant for this one." he called out, spinning around again a moment later without waiting for a reply, and pelting towards the academy. He did still need to get set up after all, and the kids were probably there already, or late like him.

๑๑๑๑ Walking alongside Segare as he spoke, Luo dusted dirt off of his shoulders and knees, swiping his hands together afterwards to get as much dirt off of them as possible before they were in view of the gates. As usual, Luo didn't like to appear too out of sorts when he approached the village or people in it. Sure it was normal for shinobi to be a bit dirty from work they do, however a spar between Luo and anyone able to keep up with him wasn't easy. Needless to say, Luo's blood vessels coursed with endorphins and lingering adrenaline from matching wits with a shinobi as capable as himself, it was a rare treat in the village and something he enjoyed during his free time.

His question was easy enough to answer, however he was sure Segare wasn't in for the entirety of it. In his youth, Luo himself had asked his grandfather Hideki Ushio just what was the point of meditating under a waterfall. Logically, all Luo could think of was that it generated white noise, and perhaps a sensation to focus on apart from your own body. And while Hideki acknowledged that Luo in some way was correct, he was failing to see the entirety of the reasoning behind it. Still, as Segare posed a follow-up question, Luo couldn't help but wonder if perhaps people were supposed to take from it what they wanted, what they needed.

"Apart from generating a white noise, a waterfall represents the passage of energy from one source to another. An energy that churns throughout the heavenly body known as our planet. Although when stagnant useless, when set in motion this energy brings life to plants, carves canyons, sustains the masses, and can kill without hesitation. In this sense, you can liken water to cha--". Before Luo could finish however, Segare cursed as he stared up at the sun, mentioning what he was supposed to be doing that day. Although Luo didn't very much like being interrupted, it seemed to be with good reason. Besides, perhaps Segare would figure out what Luo was getting at, or even figure out why the methods of meditating under a waterfall work for him. It was often difficult for Luo to remember that his methods or the methods of his clan weren't always the best methods for others.

Immediately, Segare raced forward, turning around just as quickly to face Luo as he continued at a leisurely pace, his eyes scanning the gate guards as he nodded a hello to each of them. As Segare proposed for Luo to attend the class, he left before Luo could answer, although by now he was sure Segare knew Luo wouldn't pass it up. He wasn't teaching anything that day, and as usual he'd finished his work before lunchtime. The spar took them well into the afternoon, however Luo saw himself turning right back around and going hunting had Segare not asked him. Besides, it was an opportunity to observe the man's teaching methods. If anything, it would certainly be interesting.

Passing through the gates as they were held open after Segare rushed through, Luo walked through them as they shut behind him, headed towards the academy. He wondered how the kids would fair in a class-like setting.

➸➸➸ --- ➸➸➸

Rhodes grumbled lightly under his breath to be torn from his studies to go and fetch materials; specifically when his parents so keenly added, that sunlight would do him some good. It was not like he was not getting an adequate amount of sunlight from his bedroom window! What more could that brilliant star do other than burn his skin and cause some form of rash. It was quite infuriating. But, 'tis was what occurred when being a child of two scientists. Before departing his home which was located outside of an area of population that slowly started to look more and more like a united community, Rhodes gathered a few of his own materials for the trip. Equipped with a hip pouch upon his right hip that stored his senbon in case of an altercation. A long bow his father began teaching him to be placed upon his right shoulder while the accompanying quiver with five arrows would be strapped in a diagonal fashion across his lithe frame. There hasn't been much trouble, if at all where he has lived outside of the occasional wild beast that strays too far into his parents yard, but one can never be too sure. His father has always said, the beasts can be understood, but the evils of man is quite a different picture.

Exiting the little shack positioned next to his parent's home which held his materials he waved to his mother, Gwaine De'Cartes, who stood on the porch as she usually did when seeing Rhodes off. Making sure, he stayed on the main path that has started to develop over time of individuals going to and fro from this bordered community. Interesting how it grew and expanded over the years. He had often wondered what it took to build such a community. Like-mindedness would of course have to be a factor. But how did one decide who was the leader, or if they were justified in taking land? Whose land, was it anyway? Is the ruler made, by how powerful they are? It would make sense, just by how his family is run, his father is the strongest. He watches of his mother and himself, protects them from harm of beast or man, and provides for the family. But to put this thinking outside of the family bond, how can one listen to another and follow their rules? How do they enforce this rules? Can you truthfully take the liberty of another simply because you have the power to do so?

So many questions Rhodes had about this community. It was the very few that he was actually allowed to go to without accompaniment. His father briefed to the community over time and deemed it safe enough, to at the very least, trade products or gain funds by utilizing his services as a scientist. He wondered what he saw in this little community that brought him a small bit of ease but did not question his father's judgment. After all, he has not failed his mother or himself yet.

It did not take long for the child to come to the border of the community. Eying the wooden barrier that surrounded it with curiosity as he traveled forth. Wondering if it served the same purpose as the fence that surrounded his own home. A form of protection around those within against the beasts and humans that wish them harm; though of course, this would be something made on a much grander scale. "How much bigger, I wonder, does this community intend to get?" He questioned before coming to the entrance, searching for an individual to give him admittance. He was told by his father, very strictly in fact, that one does not enter gates without speaking to someone first. Specifically in times where trust in people, even to a child, is very slim.

Rhodes didn't have to wait for too long as the guard came to the entrance and waved him in. Though his father found being apart of the village as a member a little.... unwanted, he still found it to be mostly beneficial seeing as it will help him better protect his family. At the very least, he and his wife could offer their intellectual services and creations to the village, as well as send Rhodes to school so that he may better be able to assist his father in his work.

With a brief look at the sun and utilizing it to roughly tell the time, or at least the hour that it may roughly be, he found himself to be a little early. He could, stop by his school and see what may be occurring there. After all, it would be better to do that, than having his mother once more shoo'ig him to be outside more as if parents wouldn't mind their child having their noses stuffed into a book.

As timmy walked out of the gates he looked left, then looked right. He wasnt quite sure where to go next. "Should probably stretch first, that meditation sorta ruined me natural relaxation." Timmy declared triumphantly before beginning some simple arm stretches. However as his stretches continued they quickly drifted from sensible stretches to more bizarre ones risking injury. . When his attempted handstand failed and he fell directly on his face, Timmy simply rolled to his feet and started walking off in a random direction. It would seem to some that he was ignoring the sizeable welt and bleeding nose fairly well. More sensible individuals might notice that he started walking back into the village by accident, and had to change his direction.

Timmy and Shikaku were both well accustomed to walking, but they were mostly used to walking on roads. Timmy found himself tripping over more than a few branches and rocks, and before long his legs has become as bruised as his face. They were 10 minutes into the forest before Timmy explained his plan at an incredibly high volume. "WE ARE GOING TO HUNT ONE OF THOSE GIANT BLACK CATS!" It is interesting to note that Timmy's interaction with black cats was limited to the regular, even tempered, kittens. He never bothered with even an adult cat, so was ignorant to their treachery. Still, the man said near death. That had sounded like the most sensible way to figure out this whole chakra thing. Way easier than sitting quietly.

Shikaku followed, slightly confused as Timmy went not towards their home to start planning in private, but towards the village gate. He'd thought, from the boy having said they were hunting, that he was using their private interpretation of the word, but nobody lived outside the village walls, so it seemed he actually meant an actual hunt. That was... Worrying...

Still, as Timmy stopped just past the gates and started a bizarre round of stretches, Shikaku smiled and relaxed, sitting down to simply watch. Trust Timmy to react to something that was meant to be relaxing as if it caused tension. For him, it probably even did, just being told to sit still for so long. After a few minutes of watching Timmy go through increasingly bizarre exercises, the boy finally attempted the most revered of shinobi exercises, the one handed handstand pushups! And promptly fell flat on his face. Shikaku snickered as his brother's misfortune, only rising once more when the other boy started walking back into the village. Good, then he just wanted to come outside to exercise!

Annnnd, no, he was just disoriented from his fall it seemed. Timmy immediately turned around again and walked into the forest, managing to trip over every exposed root, fallen branch, and blade of grass in his path. Shikaku sighed, shook his head, and followed. Whatever he was up to, it was best to stick near him, and hopefully prevent him killing himself. Mostly. Unlike Timmy, Shikaku had taken his difficulties in maneuvering the forest a year ago as a challenge, and taken to near daily runs in the forest to hone his skills. The practice had paid off well, as he now was able to move quite smoothly through the forest, suffering none of Timmy's difficulties.

Finally, ten minutes into their impromptu trek, Timmy deigned to share his plan, shouting it about as loudly as he likely could. Shikaku winced at the volume, then his eyes widened as the words themselves sunk in. What? "No!" Shikaku shouted back, nearly as loudly, before cutting his own volume down to a loud hiss. "We're not hunting a bloody panther! Are you -" he cut himself off before he could finish. What was he going to say? Crazy? Insane? Mad? Of course Timmy was all those things. They'd gone over that plenty of times, no need to rehash it now.

Eyes narrowing on his partner, Shikaku remembered what Segare had said, and realized what Timmy was up to. "No. No no no! Forget near death, that's guaranteed death! And it probably wouldn't work anyways!" he yelled, forgetting his own volume as a slight panic took over. Once Timmy got an idea into his head, it was nearly impossible to talk him out of it, and now his latest plan included a death wish!
