Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? Was it a narrow escape as buildings fell to the fire around you? Or are you just now moving to The City and have no idea what everyone is talking about? It's up to you, tell us a story!

Song: I Wanna Get Better by Bleachers
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? It had been close. Much too close. Had Anatol followed been caught sleeping, it would have been disaster. The fire would have consumed them with no one the wiser. For once, Anatol's insomnia was a cause for gratitude. Still...

Anatol shivered as the memory of the roaring heat and licking flames rose up. The sounds of popping, crackling wood and falling mortar were still far too fresh in their mind as they crept and slunk throughout of the ruins of the City.

Huh. Should have left and tried to start fresh somewhere else. Why did I ever think sticking around this hellhole was a good idea?

Really, it was sheer, dumb luck that had kept Anatol alive as they'd fled through the city, staying barely one jump ahead of the inferno. And at the moment, Anatol was wondering if it wouldn't have been better in the long run to have been devoured by the fires.

Song: Silhouettes-Of Monsters and Men
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? Cerolia's escape from the damage city was too close for comfort. But Cerolia didn't get out of it alive. Fur singed and burns on arms and belly. 'Too close,' Cerolia thought. 'Way too close. At least I made it out of the city before the fires got out of hand.' The audio looked back at the damaged city and frowned with shock and sadness. So many lives were lost but at least there were some that made it out before the fires got out of control. It was only sheer luck that Cerolia wasn't that far away from the outskirts of the city. Once a building nearly fell on Cerolia but someone had dove and shoved Cerolia out of the way, sacrificing himself (or herself, Cerolia wasn't sure the gender of the audio that had sacrificed itself). Slowly, Cerolia turned around and wandered away from the still burning city, wounds aching from the movement. Cerolia would return when the fires died down and the chaos ended.

Song: The Razor- Head Automatica
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? How long had it been since everyone had gone underground to hide? How many had been lost in the fires? Trapped in buildings, under buildings... It was a nightmare. A literal nightmare.

October was scared, following after a few friends through the subway system. It was hard to say where they were going, but they were still determined to put as much distance between themselves and their fallen city. October's friends lead the way, whispering to each other about where they were going.

None of them knew where they were going to end up once they reached the end of the tunnel. None of them knew that they tunnel would collapse just as they were able to glimpse sunlight. And October wasn't sure when they ended up alone.

But October was alone now, nonetheless. And had been since. At least things seemed peaceful enough now. And that alone was enough for October.

Song: Matryoshka- [Vocaloid]
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? Seven had ran for all he was worth as rubble came down. The male had his lithe form to thank the higher powers for as he leaps through narrow openings. He slid to a stop spinning as he watched what was his home street lay in scattered ruins. Horrified he backed up panting, tears welling up before he turned to run and run as far as his body's willing to take him. The male slid under a fallen fence and ran smack into a dead end...he looked up...this was a back alley to safety. He pales as he hears the stones. The male's eyes flashed a brighter color than normal before he scaled the wall to leap over the falling stones. Landing back out on the street he took off yet again.

He made it to the end of the street following others to what seemed to be a gathering of safety. He walked out of the city, slight singes on him. The scratches from the stones he knew was going to scar. He didn't care...Seven bowed his head to those lost before turning to face the new day.

Song: Spectrum by SoNev (Zedd ft. KDrew Remix Launchpad Cover)
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? Everything seemed to be a blur right from the get-go. Explosions echoing all around him as he ran, his hand still clenched to whoever was running with him. The ground shifting and falling beneath each step as he simply ran. He had no choice. If he stopped, he would die. Sure, he may die later, but running was the better option.

Even when he finally noticed the hand he held was no longer there, Theta kept running. Through all the flames and smoke around him, over the spintered wood and crumbling cement, he just ran, until he fell. But even after the fall, Theta still survived, hidden underground as the rest of the City fell apart. His only regret was not being able to save her... And now he was back on the surface, searching for any signs of life again. That, or a means to take himself away from this wretched place.

Song: If Only - Gin Wingmore

Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? The city had always kept them safe, hadn't it? Except for that night. That horrible night when the walls had come crashing down around them, when the fires spread from one end to the other, the smoke thick enough to choke them all. Anyone that had been asleep was surely dead. A late night trip to the bathroom had been his saving grace. Had he not gotten up, had he been in bed a minute longer, he would've been been crushed as the walls of his room crumbled.

Just... like his sister. Her room had been attached to his, and when he ran back to see what the noise was, her room was gone and she was no where to be found. In his grief, he had no idea how he managed to escape the imploding city, but somehow he had.

Now the City had been rebuilt upon the ashes of those who had fallen and she still hadn't been found. He didn't want to return, but where else would he go?

At least he didn't have to worry about another midnight attack. His nightmares kept him up at night now.

(I used he as a pronoun just for ease of filling out the prompt.)

Song: The Catechism of Depression by Mournful Congregation
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? (writing in first person to allow randomized gender)

How did I escape the city, you ask? I didn't. It fell all around me, I was merely fortunate to escape harm. I stayed put, accepting my fate of flame, but fate had different plans. Fate, as it were, had me surviving the chaos. The flames burned around me, things got pretty damn hot. It was hellish, but a mere stubbed tow is all I had suffered. The few I had known and cared for, they were not as lucky, though I am not entirely certain of their fate. I just haven't seen them in quite some time.

Song: The Tea Party - Alarum
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? Earthquake. You've been trained on how to survive a disaster from puphood, and so when the building shakes, you scramble out of bed, barely awake, and take shelter under the solid wood of the desk beside your bed. Moments later, the smell of smoke registers, and suddenly you're not drowsy at all, not any more. You contort yourself in an attempt to get a look out the window, and when you get the right angle, your stomach fills with dread. Flames are beginning to lick out the windows of the neighboring building. In the distance, you hear an explosion.

Not an earthquake, then.

You whimper, because you are fourteen floors up and if the lower floors are on fire, you don't know that you can get out. There's a fire escape down the hall, if the hall's not already unsafe. You're glad that you live alone, for once. Nobody else to make sure of.

The escape itself is a nightmare memory better left half-suppressed. The hall is filled with smoke, and you crawl, choking on hot air and hoping desperately that you get to the exit before the smoke boils low enough to choke you for real. You do, somehow, and then you are faced with the long, long climb down a series of staircases, steep enough to be barely more than ladders, that double back on themselves. The building shakes again, and you hear a deep hollow boom, and you take the stairs at a run, and everything is a blur. Flames leap out the windows as you reach the eighth floor, but all you can do is keep going. The ladder that leads down to ground level is stuck. You jump. Nothing breaks, and you run.

You spend the rest of the night huddled up in a culvert, hoping alternately that it rains and puts out the fires and that it doesn't rain because rising water will force you out of the semi-secure hiding spot you've found. Morning will find you with singed fur, sore and exhausted, but alive. As long as you're alive, you can keep going, and you'll remind yourself of this over and over in the days to come.

Song:Marina and the Diamonds - Teen Idle
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? Honestly, i've never been to the city. Sure, i may have heard a few things here and there about the robot attacks and the ridiculous property damage, but I hadn't really listened. I suppose now i'll find out, I just hope it's not as bad as they say. wish me luck.

Song: Set the World On Fire - Black Viel Brides
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? The city is a mystery to me even now, after the city has fallen. I walk through the rubble looking around and trying to understand what happened. I've never seen such devastation, falling buildings, explosions, I was lucky to get out with my tail in tact. My home which I had barely begun to get used to my new home and now it's gone.

Song: Heal My Wounds - Poets of the Fall
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? Honestly, the events are such a blur, I may as well say I have no memory of it. But upon returning, I can feel the familiarity, things tugging at tendrils of memory. It's like putting a puzzle together - one I'm not sure I want to. Perhaps I'm better not remembering the loss as the city crumbled around me - the faces I can't remember, but the presences that I feel the absence of in my heart... But I have to believe I was spared for a reason.

Song: Gavin DeGraw - Soldier
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city?
I escaped with courage, making sound choices, remained calm, had faith along with hope, and focused on survival. There was a few close calls with looters as well as falling buildings, but inner strength is what really kept me going through all the destruction. I believe the city will rise like a phoenix from the ashes of destruction and from that destruction the inhabitants will rebuild those that were lost or things that we destroyed. The important thing is to remember nothing is ever truly gone.

Song: Here It Goes Again - OK Go
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? Considering her bags were on the dirty ground under her and she was staring up at her new home, it was safe to say Seahndra was new here. Glancing this way and that, she frowned. It was so dirty compared to where was from, and more than once she heard someone talking about some ....tower... thingy. The frown on her lips just grew bigger as she picked up her own bags, muttering something about someone should do it for her, and just entered the building. She'd have to figure out who to ask about the tower and some of the soot she saw on everyone.

Song: Livin' on the Edge - Aerosmith
Tell us...how did you escape the damage to the city? Escape? Why would I want to escape?! So much excitement and danger. It's heart pounding to see if I can out run a falling building or parcor around as things fall and tumble and crumble. Nothing better than a little adrenaline in the morning.
