It was in the evening, with maybe an hour of daylight left. A Witu had been stalking his herd again. Warren suspected it was the same one from last time. It had a rip in its ear that he remembered. It had been following them all day. Warren had rushed it a few times to try and scare it of earlier but it just stood and stared him. "So the damn thing thinks it can take me again" he said to himself. He figured it wouldn't actually attempt anything until it got darker, he was right.
The wild witu made its move on one of the aldabuck. Warren was crouched behind a tree when it happened, he intentionally left an opening so he knew where it would be. He jumped out from behind the tree when the witu came by and threw himself on top of it. He knew he would never catch it if it ran away.
The aldabuck jolted off together to escape the commotion. The commotion that was Warren wrestling a witu.
They scrambled for a bit; Warren punching and grappling, the witu scratching and biting. If anyone would have been near by to watch the spectacle they would see that Warren was smiling. He actually enjoyed these scuffles.

Gaddok had taken a bit of a detour on his way back to Sauti. He traveled more east than north to bring him to the little village of Vers. He had heard his mother grew up there, and wanted to see the thick forest village for himself. While there he could pick up some fruits and nuts his mother grew up eating. They were considered a luxury in Sauti, so she rarely got to enjoy them.
Noting the quickly setting sun, he picked up his pace to make it to Vers by nightfall. Passing by an open field, he noticed a heard of startled aldabuck parting on either side of him, traveling in the direction from which he came; which means whatever startled them was up ahead. Quickening his pace, Gaddok hurdled some brush and found a rather large muscular man entangled with a creature, a Witu.
Gaddok wasn’t entirely sure how the two got in this position, or who initiated the attack, but the Witu was looking rather winded. Taking pity on the struggling creature, he grabbed at the man and attempted to pull him off, “Alright, Enough! I believe you’ve made your point!” he announced firmly, hoping to get his point across without offending.

Warren was so busy grappling the canine that he didn't see or hear the guy come up behind him.
When the stranger grabbed Warren to pull him off, he thought it was another witu! Warren shouted and threw his elbow back before looking. When he fell back on his butt the witu scurried off limping. It disappeared behind the trees with its tail between its legs. He looked up to see a stranger staring at him.
Who was this guy? He let his witu get away! The same one that killed his aldabuck. Warren was breathing heavy, covered in scrapes and cuts and still sitting on the ground when he said, "Hey, what's your problem? He got away!"

Realizing he startled the man, Gaddok had seconds to brace. He managed to keep from harm, but stumbled backward all the same. “I believe you made your point. Despite your bloodied wounds, I believe your Witu fared worse…”
He offered his hand to help the man to his feet, “I’m sorry for your loss in livestock, but I’m sure that Witu will think twice before returning. I’m gaddok by the way. We should get you to town to get these scratches tended to.”

Warren gave the guy a curious look before taking his hand. After he helped him up Warren dusted himself off and smeared blood in a few places on his arms. He hadn't realized they were that bad! He at first wanted to laugh when the man suggested he go to town to get his wounds dressed but he could now see how bad they were. there was a particularly bad bite to his shoulder that couldn't be shrugged off. yet, surprisingly he hardly felt his injuries.
"I think that Witu likes the pain, thats the second time I have fought him." He went to poke at the bite on his shoulder and winced a little when he touched it. "The scratches don't normally bother me... but I think you might be right." at least about going to town. Warren hated going to town, he didn't like the people there. This stranger seemed awfully thoughtful. Most wouldn't get between someone fighting a witu. most wouldn't even approach Warren, his looks made him a bit... standoffish. not to mention his dark eyes made kids cry.
He leaned to look around the man. Warren's herd had run clear of the area. part of him wanted to go look for them, but he had a good idea of where they ran to. they have done this before and have usual spots they like to sleep at night. The fight he just had likely scared off most the critters in the area so he could assume they would be safe until he could look for them in the morning.

“Hmm, I find it hard to believe it would attack you again… Especially for how hard you were hitting it.” Gaddok stripped off his knapsack and began shuffling through its contents, “Perhaps the creature is in such dire straits that it feels it has no other option but attack your herd? Have you ever followed it?” It was unfortunate that this man’s herd was being attacked, but you wouldn’t think a creature would attack a place they had been attacked again if they could help it.
“Ah, here they are…” he proclaimed while pulling cloth wrappings from his pack, “It probably won’t do much, but it will keep you from bleeding all over the place until we can get your wounds properly dressed.” His mother never let him leave home without the most basic healing items, which included wraps.
Gaddok took a corner and began wrapping an arm when he noticed the stranger’s eyes, “Oh-” his eyes grew large with shock as he was taken back a moment, “Did your eyes get injured… or is that how they are and I never noticed?” He continued wrapping, It wouldn’t surprise him that he never noticed before. Gaddok usually looked a stranger in the eye when introducing himself, but realized it was kind of dark when he jumped the guy; which reminded him, “You know… I don’t think I caught your name.”

Warren haddn't thought the witu would return after the last time he beat it up. The fact that was continuing to target him was unsettling, he would have to ask his father about it later.
He flinched when the man started to dress his bite and scratches with gauze. When he inhaled he made a pained hissing sound through his teeth. Mother Earth that hurt! He felt a little awkward having someone wrap his wounds for him. The most treatment he would give for scrapes was to slap some mud on it just to keep the flies out.
He continued to stare at the man when he asked about his eyes. He was a little surprised when he continued to wrap his wound. He let out a grunted sigh before responding. "I.. I don't know. They have always been this way." He was truthful. He really had no logical answer. Some myth about a Sermal spirit was all he had to go on, but he wasn't about to bring up that old tale.
"The name's Warren" he finally said with a nod.

"Well Then, Warren." he said trying to ingrain the name and the face into his mind, "Let's head into town, I assume your herd will be alright until morning?" he started walking, "You know... My mother is from around here, but I can't say that I have ever been in the area. Would you mind leading? I'm not entirely sure I'm going the right way." he was fairly certain they were going in the right direction, but the witu attack got him a little frazzled.
"So tell me a bit about yourself, Warren..." Gaddok was sure to use his name, you should say a persons name at least three times to get it in your head; a trick his father taught him, "You're a herder, how did you end up in that profession." Gaddok was tall, but this guy was taller, and twice the muscle mass... Herding is the last thing Gaddok imagined him doing, and yet here he is.

Warren understood why he asked how he became a herder. He certainly didnt look like one. He patted his hands on his pants as if to dust them off. but they were so dirty and beat up it made no visible difference. He noticed yet another rip in them from the witu attack. He made a small sigh to himself. His pants were in such poor condition it was laughable.
He looked up at the sky. The sun wasn't visible but its glow still warmed the air above the trees, mixing with starlight. "There is a settlement just east of here. About an hour walk." He shifted his feet a little before he started walking east.
Warren didn't normally feel open to conversation, but this guy had gone out of his way to be courteous and nice to him. He supposed he would keep talking so he didn't seem blatantly ungrateful. "My father is leaf, hes hardy and makes his living herding. So because of him I do it." He figured he would probably have to ask his name now...Completely forgetting Gaddok had already introduced himself. "So, what's your name? Were you going to see your mother when you found me?" he had mentioned his mother.. so that sounded like an appropriate thing to ask? Warren's conversation skills were still primitive but he was trying.

“Gaddok,” He replied with a simple smile, “My mother is from around here, but she is not living here currently. We live in Sauti. She enjoys fruits and nuts from the area that we cannot grow in our climate. I figured I could pick her up some since I was in the area.”
Gaddok turned his attention to the darkening sky, “If we have an hours’ walk then we’d best be going… we won’t be able to see but a few feet in front of us soon.” He was never a fan of traveling in the dark; especially when he didn’t know where he was going.

From Sauti? He figured he was leaf, perhaps he was half? He just now noticed Gaddok's ears were a bit shorter than normal for leaf. And Gaddok, where had he heard that before? It sounded familiar. (terrible memory)
"Yes, well we will be able to make it in time." he tried to assure him. Even if it did get to dark, Warren saw better at night anyway. The sun had always given him headaches. Warren picked up the pace a little. His woulds were still painfully bleeding but they didn't hurt as much when he was talking.
"Interesting, my mother is from Sauti."He wasn't sure where he was going to go with this, he didn't like to talk about his mother all that much. "She used to like the fruit from here too. One of the inn's should have a supply. The market will be closed until morning."

“Oh Interesting~” Gaddok mused, “Do you see your mother often? I can’t say I’ve seen you around our quaint little town, so you’re probably not from Iory.” He eyed the man next to him, “You’re quite memorable from the common folk.” Not to say in a bad way, but someone of his stature and build wouldn’t be easily forgotten.
“I will probably spend the night and go to the market in the morning before I head out again.” Gaddok pulled on the straps of his knapsack. It was never smart to travel at night. You can’t see well, so if you get lost you won’t be able to see the map, there were wild animals that could think you were a snack, and more likely, you would be attacked by scavengers or thieves. Not that he had much on him worth stealing and barely a coin to his name.

Warren nodded at Gaddok's plan about spending the night. "I haven't seen my mother since I was five." he said without any hint of emotion. "We moved around a lot, mostly between Isd and Dernd. If you remember me at all I was probably the bully in school or the child you parents told you not to talk to." his voice now sounded a bit cold. He didn't know how to talk about himself to people, especially not that part of himself. He hadn't even talked about his mother to anyone other than his father. "She thought I was a monster" he said in almost a whisper. He hadn't looked at Gaddok, he didn't want to see his reaction. He didn't want people to pity him or treat him gently because of how he was treated as a kid. He just kept his head down and moved forward. He didn't know why he had even opened up this much to Gaddok. Perhaps its because they had been from similar places, he wasn't sure.

Gaddok could see how hard this was for Warren; he may not show it, but there is clearly some emotion there for his mother. He is able to recognize what she did to him wasn’t right, but he couldn’t help but sense that Warren held some of the blame on himself. “I-I’m sorry… That must be very hard for you.” He himself couldn’t imagine life without his mother, even his father.
Watching Warren shuffle ahead was hard, he looked beaten and worn down by an enemy he no longer had the strength to fight. Catching up Gaddok gently but assertively grabbed his shoulder to have him stop, “Warren…” He paused, his mouth hanging open as he thought of how he wanted to say this, “Whatever issues your mother has with you are on her, don’t make them a part of you.” Stepping around him Gaddok chuckled, “Unless you grow fur, fangs, and claws when the moon is high in the sky…" He trailed off wondering if that could actually happen, but coming back he laughed gently, "There is nothing wrong with you.”
Giving Warren a pep talk sort of slap on the back, like his father would have done to him after a good talk, he waved him along, “Come on now. We’ve gotta be getting close, right?”
