Hehehh. I like to have multiple characters, although RP's with them may change with me favoring one character over another depending on my mood. Just a heads up. I will try to have quickie info here, if you wish to rp with one or more of them, and I may have rpc's from other worlds visit here or not, I don't know; I don't generally world-switch my rpc's. But a few of my favorites I might.
A 'cold fish' of sorts, Zuus doesn't often socialize and likes to study as much as she possibly can. It doesn't really matter about what, as long as she gets to stay with her beloved books. As a Librarian, she tends to give people the creeps as she's sort of the stereotype of stern and grumpy. When she opens up though, you'll know it because she won't be as hardcore about following rules regarding the library and checking items out. She may even let you read some of HER personal collection, a well-kept treasure of knowledge. But that's rare, due to her nature tending to give even unknowing and non-sensitive humans the willies because of the 'aura' she kind of gives off from working with the dead. Aside from that, she's pretty much a normal, every-day person...if you ignore the pointed ears that she can't COMPLETELY hide from human eyes, only having enough 'glamour' of sorts to hide their true length.
Light-hearted and open, Glindsae is amazingly good at keeping secrets, if only because no one expects it of her, so they tend to underestimate her. She's very honest and up front about her past, although she doesn't know where her home'town' island would show up on a map as the area around where she lived, even below the floating mass, isn't mapped out. However, she's fun-loving and is always ready to go to a party. Or throw one, although she doesn't usually have people over at her place, giving her an interesting air of mystery contradictory to how most people know her. Glindsae is very trendy and bubbly, sometimes seen as immature for her station in life and age, but she can get along with pretty much everybody, although she has been accused of being a black, 'evil' witch because of how she goes through life; you do bad things to people, she has no compunction doing bad things to you. However, she's also fairly forgiving, and understands there are demons and spirits that can possess others, so if she feels that someone isn't acting under their own will, Glindsae has a bad habit of going 'deeper' into 'black arts' to try to find a way to exorcise people to normality. Her 'familiar', two-tailed feline companion often has sharp words about this. Mostly complaints about making him do all the work, since most of what she knows about 'Hell' or the Underworld come from him...
^ These are 'paused' until a time I get rp'ing regularly again; they're on vacation or have moved, or something v
Not used to so many people, and shy/timid by nature, it might take a bit for someone to get to know the quiet Miri'imaen. It doesn't help that she's had death threats in the past before, for being a 'monster', with the stigma and fear associated with known llamias. So while she stays quiet and in a sense has a 'paranoia', nonetheless Miri'imaen holds an almost naive hope and trust in the people around her, that people aren't all as bad as they may seem. If nothing else, she holds this belief due to knowing how people view her own race, at least in how they've reacted to HER in the past even when she hadn't meant ANYONE any harm. So she goes through life, quiet and careful, yet with a sense of carefree ignorance to the true darkness around the world that endears many people towards her, even if the quiet, shy girl can't see that people like and want to help her. She's too much of an introvert to think about herself as beautiful or anything, despite the pull to guys...usually those right out of puberty, around her own age group...and tends to view attention as unwelcome and insulting. Somewhat ashamed of her race, in the sense of how it seems a stronger pull and more dangerous while in her natural form, Miri'imaen tries to hide that she IS a Llamia, in self-defense.
Krishi'in...is odd. She holds a deep aching loneliness that she never shares, and seems to intentionally feed while pushing others away. She's had an interesting childhood where it seems like she had been some sort of noble, or something. Her powers had manifested when Krishi'in was young, isolating her from the friends she had at the time. Once this had happened, her abilities kicking in, Krishi'in had been taken aside for 'schooling'. Her memories of this time are a touch hazy, mostly of blurred faces and extreme cold. Mostly inside, as her loneliness grew and grew. Fear, anger...hatred. Negative emotions as well as the good ones were forcibly repressed. Anger was allowed, under certain circumstances. Like, to hurt others. From this, Krishi'in has learned well to be cold, heartless and cruel. Traits the 'other' side of her quite enjoys as it makes their transition from Krishi'in that much easier. You see, Krishi'in has had the misfortune to become possessed. That had been terrifying, and that part of her memory is nothing but a blank. She tolerates it, works around the power flows it gives her, although a potential question is this; was she being prepared for the demon, or does the demon's presence simply continue on the emptiness and cruelty that Krishi'in will never develop away from? Is Krishi'in truly that cruel, or is it a forced condition forced upon her from her 'training' and conditioning, and the demon's murderous presence?
Oddly enough, she actually sort of enjoys cooking, even if Krish'in's tastes seem to lead to the strange and the disgusting. She DOES appreciate good cooking...she's just able to eat just about anything. What some may consider a biological hazard doesn't really phase her.
Clarence "The Blood Staff" Smithson - Magus, Wizard Shopkeeper
Clarence is an easy-going kind of guy. It's difficult to get under his skin, and on the rare occasion he dislikes someone, he'll still be polite and courteous. He just won't spend time with them, by choice. Professional and calm, Clarence is a bit of a 'flirt' with the ladies, but it's more his lighter humor coming out as he compliments them and acts the very gentleman that he is. Which is ironic, how often Clarence is accused of 'flirting', since he's almost completely clueless when it comes to women paying attention to him in that way. It's not that Clarence is down on himself; he knows he's fit, and is relatively attractive to some women, but he came from a simple background and still keeps some of those past associations of being a 'commoner' that people wouldn't lightly look at. While Clarence DOES understand how times have changed in the modern world, and has changed, somewhat, along with them, Clarence still holds a few Old World values when it comes to the 'fair sex', and the treatment of them. He loves to cook and learn new things, mixing his loves by being a cafe/bookstore owner. It also acts to pay the bills, even though due to his work for a particular Magus Lord still in England, it's not really necessary. Interest stacked quite nicely over the centuries, especially with a banker who was another Magus and knew how to stay low-key without anything illegal.
The only sure way to annoy or even ANGER Clarence is to be rude to a woman (in general and) or to the point she'd cry, or to criticize his cooking. Critique, sure. And he knows not EVERYONE will enjoy what he cooks. But Clarence takes pride in his multi-national cooking, and will use only the freshest and best ingredients he can find. So he's a bit more easily insulted when someone is just being rude and crude about it. That, and Demon-summoning. Clarence pretty much hates Demons, and the pain/misery they cause. Although he is fairly tolerant about pixies. As long as they listen to the few rules he puts down. They're handy.
Name ~ Zushaei'if "Zuus" Sctein'aerdh Age ~ 65 - looks about 18 to 20, ish Race ~ Necromancer
->HEIGHT: 5' 9.75 (10)" WEIGHT: about 170, 175 lbs <-
Position ~ Librarian (Has access to all libraries, especially those containing magical or just unusual...used for magic, if not magic in and of themselves...tomes) Personality ~ Sometimes seeming distant and harsh, non-empathetic, Zuus seems to only care about her books. She realizes they will wear down over time with use, but isn't afraid of getting on someone's case if they mishandle one or through their negligence a book gets damaged...drink stains make her livid. If only because she enjoys a good cup of tea while curled up with an even better book.
Studious, almost stiffly courteous and formal, with a habit of using Old English ways of speech, Zuus seems determined to collect knowledge in her mind as she collects books, being a slight 'jill of trades' in regards to making things, herbs and gardening which goes to cooking and medicines and surgeon work although she's not certified...but she's the best you can get for 'free' if in a pinch, and she's REALLY good at it.
Biography ~ Growing up away from average Human society, Zuus was an outgoing and curious child. Her family...often mistaken for Elves because of their tendency to be of more slender build and their pointed ears even though they didn't really have any other similarities...were Necromancers, almost more of a profession than a race because there were Human, Elven, and Goblin Necromancers as well. But she was still part of an 'elite' group that handed down Necromancy, having kind of become their own race apart from the others. She learned how to use her abilities and 'magic', not seen as such even though those on the outside may consider it to be so.
Working with such tricky things as Life and Death, especially being the kind of Necromancer that she was, Zuus soon learned the control over her emotions so that a distraction couldn't result in fatal error. This made her seem distant and emotionless, even to today. Even though she still comes off that way and people may get a 'chill' around her due to her constant association with the grave and ghosts, Zuus still does have emotions...she just has been out of tune with them for so long by necessity then habit that now she's strong enough and has control it's just how she is.
She attended a magic school with her accompanying 'familiars'* and became their Librarian; due to its nature of being 'alive' and more or less sentient, it required an active person in symbiosis to it to keep it under control. Especially as residual magic tended to make Time and Space do odd things inside of it that other Librarians utilized...but was not healthy for students to get caught up in. Usually it was terminal...or just made them insane. It was part of her job to find lost...usually through rebellious and suspicious means...students and bring them back out. It was interesting, meeting students and even the occasional teacher from the Future caught in the Library's twisty ways. It just meant that she had to have a firm will and a strong mind to keep track of everything...and hold onto what she may have unintentionally learned of what was to come, although within the lack of limits inside of the Library she was able to avoid paradox by returning those lost to their proper places. One of the many reasons there was only ONE Librarian at a time; one could only do so much messing with Time and Space without ruining it; two at the same time would make things MUCH worse. So she's had experience with the temperamental, Temporal Library and retains abilities granted to her from dealing with it.
Extra ~ Zuus is actually 65 years of age but looks as young as she is due to quirks of Time inside of the Library's Spaces...the parts that most students didn't have access to without a Guide of sorts, the part beyond the immediate physical. She had been in a Pocket of Time for 40 years being trained to be the Librarian from what is rumored to be THE Original Librarian although he just claimed to be the last one to pass it down. Even though this would put her at 25 human years, how the Necromancers live through Time normally as well, she still only looks 19ish because for her mentality and development she's around twenty years of age, just out of high school ready for college...which is her story, working at the library for money to attend college even though she's looking at having classes at the magical college as well.
Also, Zuus' necromancy deals more with spirits than animating bodies, although if she brings up a spirit that has that potential she can have them possess a suitable body to create a 'zombie' like what everyone tends to associate. She will do this from time to time, but views that style of necromancy a 'baser' and 'lesser' form to only be able to raise the bodies of the dead since for the most part the spirit and mind of the person is gone and out of reach...but she can call THOSE back.
She also has VERY limited control of shadows, primarily her own. This is more or less limited to making them solid enough that with a darkness Spell they can hold people still, or change her own shadow. Chryn can do more with shadows, but he has to be 'in' them to make them solid enough to affect people, and for the most part this only works at night because during the day he's too weak...although Zuus could access the Void through a shadow, but that has its own dangers. (Read Chryn's description below.)
Part of being a Librarian gives Zuus other 'abilities', but ALL Librarians of the magical college obtain these as part of the symbiosis with the Library to be able to be efficient caretakers of it; these other abilities ONLY WORK in The Library at the college, and can be explained at the time of reading or upon request; they do not work in a normal Library unless it too has a sort of 'sentience' that requires a symbiotic connection to control due to a build up of Magical, or Emotional and Spiritual magic/energy.
Zuus also has three constant 'familiars', named Ki'il, Chryn and Januoce.
= Ki'il is a quieter, shyer spirit whose primary function seems to be a light since his form is a purplish floating ball of 'fire'...he's pretty much a scaredy cat, and doesn't like being bullied by Chryn. But when given a task he CAN come through. He's primarily her 'communication', able to move freely between planes of existence to talk to ghosts if Zuus doesn't have the time, energy, or inclination to call up a spirit herself to speak with. He can also access the ones so strong or so old that they're out of her reach. = Chryn is a psychotic spirit of shadow who loves to kill and is the 'muscle' around Zuus, able to invade peoples' dreams and give them nightmares and to some extent damage them physically...but only in the darkest shadows, VERY rarely during the day; it doesn't stop him from asking her if he can kill and eat people though. Or being an overall annoyance. He's weaker in the Material and Zephyr, but in the Realms of Dreams and Fear, he's pretty much a demon - especially in the dark Void Spaces between Reality...but that doesn't happen often, although that IS where he was found. This is a part of his 'insanity', being split as he has a part always in the Void that's ineffective unless Zuus is present with the rest of him where he stays with HER. Needless to say, he tries to kill her when that happens, so she doesn't go to these Voids without extreme caution. = Januoce is the only spirit of the three that doesn't speak, and 'he' doesn't really seem to 'exist' as anything but a blur of colored light with a sort of 'spiral' look at the end like a tiny comet. For most spirits this would make 'him' weak, but his purpose around Zuus is to find things. Whether in the Material...normal, physical Human...world for short bursts of time, or able to exist as himself longer in the Zephyr...ghosts and spirits, overlapping the Material with access to Limbo and the Underworld...to find the spirit of a person and therefore their location (if the Zephyr) in the Material. He can also 'find' information, or just those who would have it; this means he could technically go back through time, but if that happens he can't manifest for quite some time and Ki'il has to go back and get the information, and to some extent bring Januoce back because otherwise the other spirit couldn't return to Zuus.

Name ~ Glindsae Rowan BloodThorn Age ~ unknown (347) - looks a young 23, often mistaken for 19, 20 Race ~ Witch
Position ~ Teacher Personality ~ bright and bubbly, it's difficult to get 'Glitzy Glindsae' down. Optimistic, caring and generous, can seem blind to faults so gets taken advantage of from time to time...but not often. People learn not to, as she's sort of a 'golden rule' kind of person.
Biography ~ Glindsae is from an odd sort of town that had been separated from the rest of the world...a sort of island in the sky. She had always been a very...particular...kind of girl when it came to her appearance, even though she hadn't had a mother to instill that girly side inside of her.
The witch grew up in an orphanage in this town, and only one other person had seemed to not mind her small pranks and eccentricities. No one knew what the other girl had been, but Glindsae didn't care; they were two outsiders in a band of misfits, outcasts from those left behind. They watched out for each other, went to school together, and even when the other girl seemed to grow farther and farther apart as she matured, Glindsae was one of the few people who still knew what the other girl was feeling. And was perhaps the only one who could recognize the anger coming in a storm of rage that the other girl seemed to always hold. Especially after a time that while Glindsae was in an Intermediate school, some students...mostly male...had tried to take advantage of her.
They didn't try that again, although Glindsae had run and gotten lost in forest afterwards. Things happened during those couple of days, things that she didn't tell even her friend, if only because the other girl could see the evidence of what had happened and could guess. Whether as a result of this time, or not, Glindsae isn't sure, but years afterwards her friend went missing. Now, the witch has been traveling to try to find her old friend, and is currently living and working in Janhall to try to get the funds and the awareness of this different 'world' to continue her search.
Extra ~ Glindsae wears almost exclusively shades of purple, although she will wear darker blues for special events.
The two-tailed cat that acts as her 'familiar' had been considered a demon at home, so Glindsae tries to play down his presence in her life, even though him teaching her has helped her skills in spells and potions immensely since they had met.

Name ~ Mirri'imaen Age ~ 15 Race ~ Llamia
Position ~ Student Personality ~ Shy and quiet, Mirri'imaen is used to holding her own thoughts and opinions, and hiding away from people who would do her harm; she's also dealt with quite a bit of racism to being nonhuman, so tends to hide her true race if she can. Curious and fairly adventurous, though she stays quiet and shy.
Biography ~ Raised in a program for nonhuman kids, learning about the human world and how to survive and coexist in it without bringing conflict, Mirri'imaen has always seemed to have bad luck. She was a sort of 'problem case', where her caretakers weren't sure what to do since it wasn't like the llamia girl ever went LOOKING for trouble. It just seemed to find her. So she developed skills to hide her true race, often mistaken for being an 'elf' when she has legs. Otherwise, she keeps to herself, with her minor mixing skills and amazing memory seen as not all that powerful.
Now of an age that she's 'graduating' from the program, Miri'imaen is looking forward to mixing with an actual SOCIETY of people, instead of just the comfort of the people known within her program. She's moved to Janhall as the next step in living in the human world, now that the Veil has been raised. She holds a hope for Humanity, despite the problems she's had to deal with, considering how even other nonhuman races tend to view the Llamias; a sort of land-bound Siren with magic, and generally accused of seducing men.
Extra ~ As a Llamia, Miri'imaen has a sort of passive 'aura' that tends to attracts boys...technically could be of all ages, but is usually puberty up or just around her own age...and a lot of stigma regarding that and their 'human eating' habits. None of which she has.
Miri'imaen has a more subtle magic, instead of the major powers of arcane magic usually attributed to her race...she has near-perfect memory, and some skill in mixing medicines and potions, thought not much. Her main ability is being able to turn her tail into a pair of legs, although they still tend to be somewhat scaled and an 'off' color, so she doesn't show them much, if she can help it.
Even though as a 'snake' she may fear birds, Miri'imaen actually adores ravens and eagles, and wishes she could communicate with them like she can...minutely, strange for her race...with other reptile creatures. She's considered weak for a Llamia with her sensitivity to surroundings more easily upsetting to her and her lack of strength in magic and abilities, even though she has yet to come across another of her race.
Miri'imaen's abilities are more along the lines of her learning capability; she has a nearly-perfect memory, is highly sensitive to the 'moods' of her surroundings, and she is fluent in four languages; Latin, Greek, English (or 'Common', if you want to regard that as the multi-purpose language spanning intelligent races for this world), and what she calls 'Primal' - it's not so much a language itself, as being her ability to communicate with reptilian animals. It also gives her a very slight edge at understanding and recognizing 'reptile' beings, like dragons and wyverns, other 'scalies', and etc.

Name ~ Krishi'in Nightshade Age ~ 15 Race ~ 'Mage' (truly unknown; she doesn't register on 'scans' magic or limited tech for this purpose as anything known as if something was blocking it. Sometimes she comes up as human, sometimes demonic, sometimes elf...once as a warlock bounded-blood. That confused a lot of people.)
Position ~ High School Student Personality ~ Cold and kind of stand-offish, Krishi'in isn't out to make friends. In fact, she may be out to kill everyone around her. No one really knows, she's a hard read to do; even telepathy- or empathy-users just feel 'cold' and 'empty' around her. It's almost as if she didn't exist, even though she's obviously right there and ALL senses say she IS present and isn't just an illusion or a hollow clone... When she DOES show emotion, it tends to be anger, or cruelty.
Biography ~ Krishi'in has had a more or less normal childhood, she guesses. She doesn't really remember that far. She had friends, or just people she hung around. Emotional ups and downs are normal for kids, and girls in particular. What Krishi'in DOES remember, is her first summoning. A dead sibling from someone she knew. A kind of...'off'...sibling. Rotting pieces, stretching fingers, and Krishi'in stock still watching this thing that had come with her anger and hurt wanting to do something mean back to the girl who had said some bad things to her. Krishi'in can't remember. It's all hazy except for watching what had literally been a zombie of the other girl's pre-teen brother rising out of their backyard to try to kill everyone. And then wanting to kill her, before fear and the still-present anger spiked again. The thing's eyes had gone wide, it choked and clawed at its windpipe as a red line passed through...and then disrupted. It had made SUCH a mess, recreating how the kid had been choked to death with a garrote by their father.
Years passing, labeled a 'necromancer' and 'evil' but having OTHER things come, out of shadows, out of trees, out of the ground...once even a mini-house of sorts while the people IN the house just felt an extra unease and fear without knowing why. And always in relation to emotions, primarily hurt, fear and anger. Krishi'in learned to hide her hurt, then stopped feeling hurt when people were mean, or left her in solitude. She also refused to feel fear; fear of her first ever Summoning is what let it have as much freedom as it had, turning on her. So she held onto anger...and the enjoyment of another person's pain.
Eventually, Krishi'in wasn't even in school. She was only about eleven, and was being taught...strictly, although she doesn't remember faces...how to control her emotions. How to be 'perfect' and 'proper'...the perfect liar, a proper doll. That could kill people with things under her control. Krishi'in learned to direct her power, consciously control and 'limit' it with names, and stuff like contracts. Krishi'in learned to have control over what responded to her 'tugs' of power. And Krishi'in learned what it meant to be possessed. She's not sure how it happened, that part of her memory is completely blank. All she remembers are more pale, blurred faced with gaping holes for eyes and a few seemingly soul-sucking mouths...around her in an isolated even surrounded by darkness.
But now, despite her money, at this time having been just around twelve, thirteen when she was possessed, Krishi'in is pretty much considered 'poor'. She still has access to the money, still acts like a noble little snot. But she doesn't have parents, doesn't seem to have siblings. Doesn't seem to have anything, or even hold VALUE in anything, except for her little book she carries around with her EVERYWHERE, and even sleeps with. Materials can be bought, and however she gets money from wherever she stores it is unknown. Even though access seems limited, due to circumstances she doesn't speak about, you will never see Krishi'in looking entirely common. She always stands out, if only from her high-quality outfits, as if she believed herself to be Old World nobility and had heralds and a title, or something.
Extra ~ The closer to the new moon it it, the meaner Krishi'in will be. Also, the stronger she gets physically, and she can summon nastier monsters and even some spells and spirits with greater accuracy and control over them. However, it's like she's limited to these greater summons, which still take a lot more power from her...she goes glass cannon, basically. And if she doesn't lock herself in during the day in preparation of the night of the new moon, and each day on the side for safety's sake, well...
Krishi'in's woken up soaked in blood before.
Krishi'in actually DOES have a small, slender black tail that IS a part of her. How long she's had it, if she was born with it or not, she's not sure. And frankly doesn't care; to her, things Just Are, and if she decides she wants them differently then she tries to change them. But aside from that, Krishi'in is pretty much wholly apathetic to life.

Name ~ Clarence Kayne(See Extra)"Blood Staff" (See Bio) Smithson Age ~ 302 (looks 20) Race ~ Magus - Wizard (See Extra)
Position ~ Cafe/bookstore owner Personality ~ Calm, friendly, polite; a gentleman to the ladies, never seen angry. Has a quieter sense of humor than most are used to, and tends to be serious-minded; gets awkward around young women due to his perception of himself, and his lack of experience with modern-day flirtation
Biography ~ (It's long)
Clarence Kayne was born in 1713, England. He didn't know his parents, raised by the local smith, so his last name is Smithson. He cared for his adoptive father, and would help at the smithy once of age. Clarence had always enjoyed the outdoors, and had often been curious, wanting to learn more about the world around him. On one of his many wanderings in the forest, he found a small overgrown building that local legend had said belonged to a witch. It was clearly abandoned, and with the pride of youth he explored. It was here that, as he came here more and more, Clarence first learned about his magic after an incident at the smithy. His father had known what Clarence was, but hadn't been a Magus himself to be able to teach the boy about his magic; the smith wanted Clarence to have as normal and healthy a childhood as possible, but had also encouraged Clarence's sense of exploration and his eagerness to learn.
For a long time, Clarence was self-taught, experimenting and pushing himself while at the witch's cottage. It was there he found his Focus*, without any awareness of any oddity to it. Or to the availability of it having been there in a cottage confirmed to have been abandoned for at least ten years by this time. Clarence had been thirteen when he found his Focus, after a few months of hanging around the witch's hut and then a shorter time since his incident. There came a time, however, where another Magus made his way into the area. By this time, dealing with bandits, Clarence worked on using his magic, and without any knowledge of other Magi he was proud of what he had accomplished. This other Magus had been surprised, having intended to move in and use the untapped Magic of the area, only to find himself challenged by such a youngster. At a young fifteen, Clarence wasn't a match at all for the Magus, but his raw power and sheer determination made this older Magus take notice. He took Clarence under his wing as an apprentice, teaching Clarence the rules of being a Magus; secrecy, how their powers worked, appropriate uses of magic, etc and etc. He had been a hard tutor, training Clarence's body as well as his mind, the boy often finding himself too tired to really explore or do more than learn all he could of what was being crammed at him. This went on for years, Clarence isolated with his only contact his Mentor, and the occasional person of the nearby town where this Magus lived.
As an adult, Clarence was allowed to roam at 19. He had grown into a handsome young man who looked slightly more mature than his actual years, with the body of a well-built commoner but the mind of an intellectual. Away from his Master, Clarence took his time enjoying his freedom, learning and traveling. It was during this time away from his Master...with a promise to never speak of him...that Clarence came upon a battle going on. It was against Demons, beings he recognized from lessons with his Master. Beings that Clarence knew were dangerous, and needed to be taken down. By this time, Clarence knew he was a Wizard, with a bit of dabbling in Warlock arts. But he wasn't a Sorcerer, to banish the Demons, or a Witch to 'exorcise' or cleanse them. So, death it was. To Demons, with their sickly energy feeding off of human pain, despair, and other such unhappy maladies of the dark side in the Human soul. And those who had summoned them, who delighted in helping the Demons. It was here, a young man from seemingly nowhere, that Clarence earned the title of 'The Blood Staff', from the irregular red of his Focus, and the sheer freakiness of his magic. Awe was built, even as a Lord of the Realm found him and bestowed this title upon an unconscious Clarence, as it had seemed like he was untouchable. Combat Magi still had some armor, but this BOY had stood his own against a fair handful of demons and their servants, their summoners, without seeming to get a scratch.
Realistically, the blood of fallen enemies had been manipulated to burn and affect his opponents, the energy from their blood healing the wounds he had taken. But magic still required internal energy, and fatigued from the battle and the energy required on his part to have controlled his magic, Clarence had fainted.
The Lord took care of young Clarence, surprised that the boy hadn't 'aged' despite his obvious use of magic, and the way he had used it. And for how developed his Focus was* at such a young age. Clarence wouldn't really talk about his Master, didn't say anything about the Magus who had taught him, once he woke up. He was happy enough to talk about his village...without giving any clear indication where it was...to this Lord, a leading member of the Wise Council that kept an eye over other Magi in England. They also had correspondence with a similar group in Wales and Scotland and Ireland, but the 'Wise Council'...not their names for themselves...were sort of the top dogs in the United Kingdom, leaders to the smaller Councils local to the smaller countries. From here, Clarence had patronage, a chance to hone his already-developed skills. And have a regular job.
Clarence has traveled over Britain's many territories, has been through Europe and a bit of lower Asia, although he hadn't ever really been to Africa. The young man enjoyed learning all he could, implementing new ideas and magics into his own. It didn't always work, as even though other Magi had similar rules and restrictions on their abilities, the practices and BELIEFS that went into their magic were so different than his own style. Clarence had already been used to being calm in the face of unexpected surprises...his Master would attack out of nowhere on an irregular basis, magic and body...and quiet from his time out in the woods studying animals. Now he was shy, his patronage by this Lord of the Realm, a Noble, guaranteeing the young man excited attention. He wasn't used to it, and over the next few years Clarence had developed a distaste for the celebrity people saw in him. Yes, he was strong, yes no one recognized the material of his Focus...a severe anomaly. But he was still just a Magus...just a man. And the humility taught by his Mentor was so much a part of Clarence by this time, that the attention only made him more shy, when it didn't annoy him. He didn't want it.
Time passed, Clarence unable to help but continue his reputation as time after time the Lord sent him out on missions for the Council, to travel across the United Kingdom and take care of rogue Magi, or to put down Demons and their handlers. A century went by, Clarence loving a woman and married, only to lose her and his young son in a tragic accident. Clarence focused on his work even more, time never taking away their memories even though the young-looking man knew that they were a part of his past, now. Another century, and just after his third Clarence still only looks about a healthy, fit 20 years of age. His license has him at '21' so that he can enter bars, but Clarence doesn't typically drink.
He's a new arrival to this town, looking for calm away from the Magi community that still know his name, his reputation only growing and maturing, like a fine wine carefully fermented. Clarence is hoping that here, no one will know him, and that he can have a peaceful and quiet life until he is needed again. Due to a painful incident over a decade ago, Clarence doesn't really use his magic unless it's absolutely needed. Not the combat, his 'blood' magic, anyways. He still does Wards and Circle magic, with the occasional charm, but most of Clarence's magic that he crafts these days is 'hand made'.
He's an amazing cook, practically five-star quality. *See Extra
Extra ~ - Magi come in four main categories; Witches, Wizards, Warlocks and Sorcerers...
Witches; more elemental, using the natural world to give strength to their magic. Generally potions, following phases of the moon, using elements, etc. Also has interactions with Ghosts and Spirits, where Ghosts are dead people...sometimes animals...while spirits can be of an area (think ethereal dryads, etc)...also really good with Auras, a more Sensing-heavy 'class', not as much combative emphasis. Are Healers, Shamans, Druids, CAN include some strains of Voodo etc, with Wands as the primary Focus...some Witches CAN have staffs, but for the most part the Witches tend to be of a non-combative category. As such they're seen almost as a 'lesser' 'class', even though that's not the case; they fit in among humans the easiest, and so...ironically...the REAL Witches are the least likely to get burned or tortured in 'witch' hunts. They tend to be charismatic with those around them, and their Foci generally shape up with what piece of Nature they're most comfortable and most adapt at working with.
Wizards; a more 'arcane' magic type, specializing in Spells (like from a scroll, incantations, etc), Wards, Portals, Rune (in the abstract) and Circle magic. Tending to need more magical 'oomph' to keep their magic strong, most Wizards are commonly found with a Staff focus. These tend to be more combative, with less precise outcomes of their magic. Don't mistake this for clumsiness, as some Spells are quite precise as well as deadly! Because of their magical oomph, Wizards are more likely to be able to influence Demons (who are resistant to magic) and the strongest combat Wizards are called Demonhunters even if it's not their chosen profession; it just means they have the strength, and the obligation to deal with any Demons around when they're called on. Or notice them. Sub-groups include Casters, Hunters (not just of the Demon type, although it's a shortened term for them as well), and 'Wise Men'...they're more clairvoyant, using their skills for information more than to blow someone up. Or curse them (Voodoo is a Witch thing, though). A wizard's focus is one of the most versatile, sometimes gaining other colors depending on what their strengths tend to be.
Warlocks; the crafters of the race, Warlocks are the tinkerers, they tend to make things with their hands. Whether it's an amulet or some magical weapon, or some crazy concoction or a newfangled machine, if you want something MADE, you go to a Warlock. Also good for 'making' Runes, and all sorts of binding spells. These are Alchemists, Enchanters and Artificers, Magicsmiths and Astrologists. Foci for a Warlock can be a Wand or a Staff, depending on how much magical energy they pour into their workings, or how delicate their work may be. They're like Witches in that they use materials and energy from outside of themselves to fuel and shape their magic, but there's less emphasis on Nature and Healing for them. Foci tend to shape towards what they make, or what their skill lies best in.
Sorcerers; primarily a Summoning type of magic, although it's not restricted to that. While Warlocks will look at the stars and can gain information from them, and Wizards have their 'Wise Men' scrying and spying, Sorcerers are the best informed thanks to their interactions with those they communicate with. They are the scholars and researchers of the Magi, those most likely to understand lost languages and Runes, even if Warlocks can make things with them, Wizards can cast with them and Witches can bind or read them. But all Runes used by other Magi, has probably been discovered by a Sorcerer somewhere.
Witches have the chance to Summon animals or some types of Spirits, but Sorcerers are definitely the ones to talk to when you want to know something about the past, or what is going to happen in five years' time. Your primary Voodoo workers are here, as well as Necromancers...not always a bad thing...and 'Witch' Doctors. While Witches (Magi 'class') can interact with spirits, it tends to be more of an exorcist kind of thing, while Sorcerers...and Sorceresses, the only real gender-changing name among the Magi, as any male or female Magi can be any of the 'classes'...definitely are on the up and up with these beings. Also balanced towards Wands versus Staffs, depending on what type of Being within their range and skill to summon, their Foci tended to be shaped towards a 'favored' creature or entity.
A Sorcerer/Sorceress CAN be a combat Magus, but since their magic is 'slower', based more off of Ritual and Ceremony, a combat Magus tends to go a little crazy or just not last long due to the constant stress on their minds and bodies to Summon as many creatures/Beings within their power as possible to fight.
-
A Focus is the source of the Magi's power; the stronger or more skilled the Magus, the farther away from his/her Focus they can be and still draw power from it. And most Magi learn to store a little bit of magic inside of them, but it doesn't necessarily last for long. A Magus can tell what kind of magic another Magus practices by looking at their Focus; whether they have a Staff or Wand shows their strength/specialty (for rougher versus more delicate work), while the type of wood can help identify what 'flavor' of Magus they are; Witch, Wizard, Warlock, Sorcerer/Sorceress, etc. The carvings on a Focus develop through constant use of magic flowing through it, and a Magus' specialty will often manifest in this way; what they're comfortable with, what they use or make the most. The clarity of the 'carvings' show the skill level of the Magus; if it's really clear, they've been using their Focus for a long time, or they're really freaking good at their magic.
Some Magi can use another Magus' staff, if their powers are similar enough. It's a little more awkward, and someone with a Wand is unlikely to try to use a Staff, and vice versa, but Foci HAVE been stolen before, or destroyed to where someone else's Focus was borrowed. No one could use Clarence's Staff unless they were a direct descendant or ancestor within two generations, and no one could get away with stealing it and passing it off as theirs as no one knows what 'wood' it's made of, and it's so irregular compared to normal; it's the size of a walking stick, a cane up to about Clarence's hip. Too recognizably 'The Blood Staff', and identifiable if only because people CAN'T identify what kind of Magus Clarence is...they just know primarily through his reputation. It's called a Staff because it's DEFINITELY not a Wand, and Clarence CAN do slightly more subtle workings than most combative Wizards but he also is limited on how much raw power he can shove into spells; great balls of fire or explosive force are not his forte, even though he technically has the strength for them.
Wands are generally no longer than the forearm and hand of the Magus using it, while Staffs tend to range anywhere from ground-to-sternum height, to just over the head of the Magus. Depends on the use of the Focus, and what's comfortable for the Magus. In the modern day, it's more difficult to hide a large and long Staff (yes, there are dirty jokes for the Magi) when a CEO Magus, for example, than a Wand would be for a Magus who works more through guile and charm than brute overwhelming personality. A Focus is made from wood, although there are a few unusual cases where bone might be used, or petrified wood instead of 'living' wood; wood from a living tree is typically seen as 'better', since magic is an energy source derived from the life and emotions of an environment and the people inside of it. It doesn't take from them, but it's the type of thing that lends an area 'atmosphere'.
The farther away from their Focus that a Magus gets, the weaker and fainter their connection to their magic. The longer a Magus is away from his/her Focus, once at the point that they can no longer access the magic through their Focus, the Magus' body is strained and will start to age. Eventually, without their magic, the Magus will die. If they are over a certain age, it tends to be speedy aging, with all the pain that that brings. Also, if a Magus is physically stressed, or pushes them past their limits with their magic and they lose too much energy, the Magus will age based off of how stressed and strained they got. All those wizards with long beards? They'd been very busy, necessity pushing them to their limits or straining their bodies on a regular basis. Dragons and Demons and whatnot to take care of, day after day after day. It's sort of like a visual of PTSD for Magi.
-
All Magi to some degree will recognize another magic-user, if only from the disruption of the magical energy around them that ALL Magi can sense and use. Those more skilled with Auras can track down a particular Magus with more accuracy, recognizing a magical 'signature' better even if the Magus in question isn't currently using their magic. Those not as strong in Aura-sensing might be right on top of a Magus without realizing it if said Magus hasn't worked magic in a while or isn't actively casting. Some Magi can't sense other Magi unless magic is actively flowing from the other Magus currently working magic.
A Magus' 'aura' is shared with their Focus, as it's their source of power; a constantly-used Focus will have a 'stronger' aura than one hardly touched. But the stronger the Magus, the 'stronger'...more condensed, thicker and clearer...their Aura, and the 'feel' of their aura around their Focus. A Magus sensitive to Auras is more likely able to successfully manipulate and affect their own, 'hiding' in a sense, while those unable to sense Auras are a touch SOL if they're trying to hide. Non-Magi CAN to some extent pick up on these Auras; even if, say, a human isn't psychic they can still receive a creepy feeling while around a person. They may not know it's THAT person, but that 'atmosphere' can still be sensed even by those who don't have that kind of psychic capability.
- Demons are highly resistant to (other) magic, and only the strongest Magi are really able to direct enough magic and personal energy to CONTROL that magic, in order to take care of them. Sorcerers can counter-summon (if they have a Name, and whatever materials may be necessary) or banish a demon, most others can find some way to Bind the demon (to an object, or place restrictions on it), Witches are good at 'cleansing' while Wizards tend to just destroy the things. Or at least the physical manifestation, as Demons ARE from a plane of existence called Hell. (Not completely accurate, but it works...some of the minor Fae were actually originally from here, but they aren't considered demons. Even if Pixies share a lot of traits with Imps.)
- Demons have their own culture, with names that are more like titles based off of famous sinners (for a broad term). Kayne is an adaptation of Cain, the first to commit murder. And of a brother, at that. So Clarence being named Kayne, and his reputation for Demon-slaying, makes a lot of Demons fear him. And try to take him down. It's also...unbeknownst to him...intentionally given, spelled that way, due to a demon in his not-too-distant ancestry.
- Clarence's magic is technically Demonic, using blood...pain...to be its most effective in combat. It also tends to freak people out that he heals, or doesn't seem injured at all. It's extra draining for Clarence to use this side of his magic, preferring to use 'earth' and 'fire'-like magics, or the Arcane side with spells and telekinesis or pure force. But being Demonic, when Clarence uses his blood magic, they don't have any extra resistances to it since it's their own power. He also starts to 'change', mentally, the longer he uses his (blood) magic in combat. As such, Clarence isn't casual about using that 'technique' of his, and as much as people freak out about his magic they tend to get freaked out more about the fact that he DOESN'T constantly use his magic like most Magi do; it's like he's confirming their fears that he DOES have dark 'evil' magic, and is aware of it and doesn't want it to take over his mind.
- Magi can procreate with humans and other humanoid beings (that are capable of procreation; so no vampires, unless there's some sort of 'curse' on the child of a 'normal' union, or some VERY tricky blood magic/artificial insemination is involved...and that'd only be recent, and still experimental), and these are known as 'Mage born'...so it's seen as a bit of an insult to be called a 'mage' after you've introduced yourself as a Magus. Mage-born may be special, have extra talents more than normal, or it may be just a sensitivity to magic and an awareness of the magical world, but they won't ever be able to control magic to where they'd be considered a Magus. Magi have to procreate with another Magus in order to produce a magic-controlling child, and it's not guaranteed to happen, as Magi find it harder to procreate together. They're plenty fine with humans, but it's more difficult to have a Magus woman get pregnant thanks to the flow of active magic...a central part of their Being that can be fatal to go without...running through her body.
- In the interest in self-preservation (and a way to stop from being Summoned, or controlled) most Magi have at least one middle name that they NEVER write down, or share unless they ABSOLUTELY trust that person. Hair and nails and such are still a concern as well.
- What works against Demons won't affect Clarence personally, but it WILL weaken the effects of his blood magic, requiring more and more of his personal energy and magical strength to get an effect across.
- Clarence is a REALLY good cook, LOVES to read, and collect odd things from his travels. And occasionally use some of the stranger items in his 'casual' workings, and experiments. He also loves to garden, and seems to have a habit of attracting pixies that actually listen to them...highly unusual for the mischievous, rowdy pests. Pixies, and a few other minor 'Fae', got kicked out of Hell because unlike Demons who follow contracts to annoy, harass, harm or kill others, the Fae had no such restrictions and would target anyone else aside from themselves. Not even others of their own kind, like Demons, were exempt; unless a Demon was looking for power, or had made a contract to do so, they didn't go against their own kind. Pixies did, so along with a few others they were banished from Hell. As such, there's a constant animosity between Pixies and demons, and they seem to be attracted by almost completely opposite environments; pixies enjoy wide-open spaces and farmland where they've become a nuisance and dark superstition to farmers and villagers, while Demons tend to thrive in the close-packed turbulently-emotional atmosphere of nasty cities that fill with human despair.

Name ~ Raven Eliza Morgan Age ~ 21 Race ~ Human
Position ~ Looking For Work Personality ~ Initially a touch aloof, Raven tends to be quiet, a little serious for her age, but she enjoys her friends and is quite loyal to her Family. She has a sharp temper and tends to speak sharp words, especially when she feels that people are being stupid, but Raven is generally pretty good about staying calm and observant in various situations. Get her competitive streak going, or her angry, and it takes a while for Raven to simmer down; she's got some pretty good stamina.
Biography ~ Born among a perfectly normal, healthy family, Raven had been quite surprised when her psychic gifts had started manifesting at the wonderful age of 13. Not super early for a Psychic, but still earlier than usual. Knowing her family's views on magic and anything 'supernatural', as pure fiction and hogwash, Raven didn't feel like she could share what she was going through. Already a thoughtful child, Raven got more silent, and...if not necessarily 'darker'...more serious. Her parents were concerned, and Raven spoke to a few different doctors, but they all had the same conclusion; Raven was being a teenager. Her parents knew it was unusual for her, but left her be. And Raven kept quiet about her developing skills, the quiet moments where it was almost like she could see her close friends in whatever they were doing.
She graduated high school early, working at her high school job until she could find her own place to move. Away from her family, away from town, Raven could relax. She found martial arts helpful to focus, and if she HAD to use her abilities, well...a tiny extra oomph in a punch wouldn't hurt anyone too much, if it only knocked them back farther away from her. Once of her neighbors had ended up being another Psychic, something that Raven hadn't found out until they'd been startled badly by someone trying to attack them. People had seem to come out of nowhere, taking care of him, and it wasn't until the woman had laughed and had them ease back from the tense Raven did the girl realize that she'd automatically taken a defensive stance against these others. And had been just barely levitating off the ground in sheer reaction. She joined their group, helping traffic Psychic law-breakers in town.
Psychics were still sort of 'secret', but a national incident involving a Psychic saving someone's life...and caught on camera...exposed them. Needless to say, once the Government was convinced it wasn't just a bunch of crazies or a giant hoax, it started cracking down. Hard. You joined them, or agreed to their rules and restrictions as you were entered into a database of known Psychics, or you were imprisoned.
Her Family joined. It'd been an interesting transition, as Psychics were still very unknown. So there were constant tests, examinations, as the Government tried to set up a standard. It meant that the Psychics already used to fighting other Psychics...and having ways to recognize, and combat them...were extra special. They were important, and constantly questioned. And paid pretty well for helping with tests.
One of the members of her Family has moved to Janhall, and sick and tired of the Government's way of running things, Raven has come with her. They stay in contact with the others, and the Family isn't completely broken up...but they've spread out, reassigned as the Government has felt threatened by her small little group.
Extra ~ Raven is technically a Federal Officer, but here in Janhall, she's looking forward to just being a 'civilian' again
(Everything she can do will be canon for this point in her life, but there ARE still certain restrictions and limitations to her capabilities)
Raven is about 5' 4", and of slender build, so she tends to have a roughy-scrappy kind of attitude. She's used to being harassed about her height...or lack thereof...but don't insult her capability to fight. THAT annoys her like almost nothing else, and she'll do her best to flatten the person to the ground quickly and painfully. Very Alpha-dominant, in that sense.
Knows a few different martial arts, and is used to practicing and sparring against guys bigger than her; her punch can really pack a punch!
Prefers knives on her person, as they're easier to manipulate more of than guns, in a fight. Simpler.
