[Opening Contests Q&A]
Q. Who will be colouring all of these dragons and whers?
A. Well actually we’re hoping some of you will colour your own, and for friends! This is a big event with a lot of art coming out of it, and neither Con nor Tawny (especially Tawny) are experienced colourists. As our art is currently by Heart of Pern and free to use you are welcome to download the files and colour up your own pet! We're currently using the chubbies for our dragon lines, and the whers and firelizards in the cutie pack. Once you or your friend have coloured the creature please upload it somewhere as a PNG file and post a link to it in our certing thread for approval, this is mainly to make sure we keep within what we’re comfortable with in terms of shades; no blues that are really really purple and so on. Once you’re okayed we’ll cert the creature for you, and they’re officially on shop art.
Q. So, wait, can I enter everything?
A. Almost, but not quite. Each person can either have transfers from Sands of Pern or a custom dragon and or wher. We feel this is the fairest way to accommodate people coming over from Sands whilst also offering opportunities to new folk! Other than this everyone can go for all of the events on offer.
Q. So there's no limit on transfers and customs?
A. That's correct! There is a time limit on the initial customs but there's no limit to the number of people who can have one during the time they're available. We're keen to get thriving active wings going so we need plenty of people to jump in! Transfers from Sands of Pern will remain open for the foreseeable future so don't feel you need to rush to get everyone you want across right away.
Q. :c Aww, bummer. I have a character I really want to transfer from Sands but I wasn't able to play them enough to meet the activity requirements. Could you help me out here?
A. There is a way around this! You essentially have two choices; if you don't bring any transfers from Sands you can make any one character who you had in Sands as an adult custom, within the limits of the custom contest. Alternatively you can make your Sands pair into Weyrlings and put them into the Sr. Weyrling clutch event; this would allow you to still bring other characters over from Sands via transfers.
Q. I have a gold rider I want to bring as a transfer from Sands, can I do that?
A. The short answer is yes! The long answer is yes, but unless you either change the gold into a smaller colour (bronze down) or enter and win the Jr. Gold contest you will have to wait for now. While we want to accommodate everyone's transfers from Sands Dragonbraved is it's own place first and foremost; we want to give everyone an equal chance to get such a rare and often coveted character type, so the junior golds initially on offer cannot be given away as transfers. We are perfectly happy for you to bring your character over as a gold (if they fulfil transfer requirements, as with any other transfer) but it might take some time and discussion with us to work out where and how they fit, so please be patient!
Q. I have a gold wher I want to bring from Sands, can I do that?
A. Yes, you can bring a gold wher across if the pair meet transfer requirements! You may need to adjust your characters slightly however as all gold handlers in Dragonbraved must be masterhandlers. If you need help on working on this feel free to contact staff.
Q. Are there limits on the Weyrling clutch?
A. Yes there are! There is a set number of dragons available of each colour but if you're not too worried about what colour you end up with you're pretty much guaranteed to get one of them. Please see the clutch giveaway post for more details.
Q. I won a dragon before the grand opening and I've decided put it into the Weyrling clutch. Can I get another Weyrling too?
A. Yes, if you would like to! We ask however that if you do, you go for one of the smaller dragons rather than browns and bronzes to give people who didn't get lucky early on a chance at the rarer colours. If there is a shortage of even greens and blues in the end we would also appreciate it if you would step back to allow people who don’t have a weyrling yet to have a better chance. There are a lot of greens and blues to be had though so we doubt it will be an issue!
Q. How do wing placements work?
In the first instance, after approval of an adult rider, please post in your character's newly approved profile your preference of wing. If you are have more than one adult rider you may only apply for one to be in first wing and one in second, any further characters must be in third, fourth or fifth wing.
Once we have the initial batch of characters approved assignments will take place. First of all suitability will be checked; it's unlikely for example that a shy slight character who hates conflict would make it into first wing, and it’s also unlikely that somebody who is completely belligerent will make it to first wing no matter how skilled a warrior they are. If all applicants for first wing are deemed suitable but there aren't enough slots then places in the wing will be raffled, those who lose out will get priority in second wing. If this happens to you, you may have two characters in second wing so long as there are enough places.
You will probably be able to start playing before wings are decided. IC your character will be in a wing, just please avoid referring to which unless you've gone for third, fourth, or fifth wing!
Once these initial assignments have been done new characters or graduating weyrlings will moved into wings based on: your stated preference, character suitability, whether or not you already have characters in the high wings, your activity level, and whether or not there is space in your desired wing. Characters who go inactive for six months are transferred to NPC wings, so there's no need to worry about wanting a post but being unable to get it because a character is sitting idle in it. In general however if you have one character in first wing you won't be able to move another up into first, though this policy may be reviewed at a later date.
