        Physical Description| Chin length bleached hair that he likes to tie up in a pony tail. There is not an ounce of excess weight on his body. Despite how tiny he may look, Kosuke is toned and his body has been trained for flexibility, stamina and speed. His skin is slightly tanned with the inside of his palms hard as leather from years of sword wielding and palm striking. He has a few scars on his forearms and legs from wielding urumis in his clumsier years.

        As a gatekeeper, Kosuke wears the traditional black uniform of Shingamis, but he tops it off with a large circular bamboo hat that covers the upper half of his face. He also wears an additional sash around his waist. Though it is merely a piece of cloth, he can use it as a defensive tool.

        Off-duty, he can be seen in pastel colored jinbeis, loose clothes typically used as nightwear or during the summer, with cloth leggings, kyahan. When he is training with sparring partners, he wears more body-fitting garments and tucks loose leggings in his trousers or wraps pieces of clothes around them. Otherwise, when alone and practicing the Indian martial art known as kalaripayattu, he prefers to train with nothing more than a loincloth as per tradition.

        Quirks
      • Kosuke is a child at heart despite having the appearance of an early teen. He is short-tempered and extremely petty though he cannot hold grudges for the love of him and is too easy to win over with sweets or the promises of fun and games. He has an extremely short attention span and will dismiss anything not 'fun'-related. On a good day, he can be extremely helpful and willing to please, but deep down, he is a brat on a rebellious streak. Discipline can only be instilled into him by a select few individuals he likes or respect, two aspects that are not necessarily inclusive.

        Unfortunately, Kosuke can be quite naive. He is extremely trusting of anything that looks remotely like a child or an early teen and behaves in the complete opposite way towards what he considers as 'grownups'. He cherishes innocence and compassion, something he believes only children truly have and slowly loses as they age to make way for selfishness and deception.

        Kosuke is easily frightened by large humanoids. He doesn't have that much problem when it's hollows of all shape and sizes, but they will spook him should they even remotely look like a human and be larger than him. His worst nightmares are Menos Grandes.

        Favors |
      • Children. He is much more comfortable around kids than around adults. Should he be given the choice of saving a child or a fellow shinigami, he would go for the child without a thought. To him, they represent the ideal form of lives due to their innocence.
      • Freedom. He hates being ordered around. He wants to be able to do as he pleases and say what is on his mind without retribution.

      • 'Grownups' or anyone that displays maturity. To him, maturing somehow is equivalent to obtaining the wisdom and intelligence to harm others for one's benefit. He believes that grownups are 'evil' because of that.

      • Orders without explanations. He is in a phase that questions everything. Why this, why that, why, why, why? He wants to understand why he needs to do something and make sure that he is not committing any evil. The fact that he distrusts he superiors and grownups do not help.

      • Starvation. As someone who had had a lot of trouble feeding himself before, he can't handle the thought of reliving the days he spent scavenging for food and being harmed for trying to steal some.

        Chapter One
        [ 8 centuries ago]
        Alone and without a guide, he was free, servant of only himself, master of only himself.

        It all started with a child, a drifter of the west, roaming the lands of Rukongai in search of something. The boy had no family, spirited away by fate with all the innocence and naivety of a babe. Alone and without a guide, he was free, servant of only himself, master of only himself.

        For a century he traveled, not belonging. An outcast he was for being afflicted by a constant need of sustenance. Throughout forest and plains, civilizations and wilderness, the boy gamboled to never settle down. Food was scarce albeit mostly unneeded by all but him. Thus, hunger became his greatest bane. Feeding himself was no easy task. Thieving meant survival and the boy quickly learned to never be caught else be greeted with the ruthlessness of human nature. Subject of violence of all kind, he came to experience first hand the cruelty human nature was capable of, cruelty from which stemmed his dislike for men.

        Children were carefree, children were accepting, children were good.
        Men were scheming, men were judgmental, men were evil.

        Thus, the boy grew to hate everything else, grew to hate all, but his 'kin'.


        Chapter Two
        [ 7 centuries ago]
        A boy he may have seemed, an aged soul he had actually been.

        It wasn't until halfway through his second century that he discovered his potential. Anger gave him power, power over his surroundings, power over his foes, foes over twice his size. Reiatsu, it was called. A Shinigami, he would be called; an asauchi he was given.

        But the Shinigami were ruled by men. An omen in itself, their name was not one the boy desired. So he kept on roaming, over mountains and rivers, through caves and tunnels. He played with and learned from children of all kinds, searching for something, something he knew not.

        Alone and always alone. Even children would age he soon found out. Friends would turn into foes. Only he seemed to have been spared by the taint of time.

        He would be running from age, from traces of time itself. Primitiveness he sought, places untouched by civilization he visited in an attempt to reach the antithesis of time. By luck he found an ancient temple, a kalari it was named. A prodigy the boy met, a prodigy appearing no older than himself, but master of ancient arts, the deadly dance of Kalarippayattu.

        They were two like-minded individuals, living out of the constraints of society, without the weight of age, and quickly became inseparable. As hermits they lived, in their own little world of fun and games, but like all soul, the boy's new friend had to move on. A boy he may have seemed, an aged soul he had actually been.

        One last gift he gave the boy, all knowledge and experienced of the art the Guru had mastered. Unfortunately, it was too much for the inexperienced child and did more harm than good. Alongside millenniums of knowledge and experience, another mind was planted into him.Two minds within a body, two chaotic forces expressed by a single body. Madness overtook them and for a century, the boy terrorized neighboring districts. Their murderous rampages made them a thing of legend. At times a helpful presence to lost travelers, at times terrifying monsters, they were known to bring both fortune and misfortune and were known as the Western Spirit.


        Chapter Three
        [ 5 centuries ago ]
        An answer the boy did not have, but his only friend did. 'Kosuke Nishimura', he had said jovially. 'The Rising Sun of the Western Village'.

        Then came the day the reapers caught wind of his works and the men-reapers intervened. Wielding demonic arts, the men put him to sleep, a seemingly peaceful slumber where they were greeted in a gray world by a ghastly figure of a darker gray. The 'Gray Spirit', it had introduced himself as before returning the question. An answer the boy did not have, but his only friend did. 'Kosuke Nishimura', he had said jovially. 'The Rising Sun of the Western Village'. With that said, Kosuke's only friend vanished, leaving him in the good hands of his new self and leaving him to find his inner peace.

        The newly christened Kosuke awoke in the heart of Seireitei, an unfamiliar, yet familiar blade at his side.

        'Who are you?' he was asked. 'A Shinigami,' he had answered.


        Chapter Four
        [ 5 centuries ago ]
        'You will never age,' was the promise the Gray Spirit had made during his baptism and a promise he repeated to whoever spoke about his appearance.

        He had started a completely different life. Though Kosuke still harbored a strong dislike for those older than him, his newest companion helped him manage his anxiety. Although he had achieved Shikai, he had been 'benched' as he knew so little about what he had become and assigned to multiple division for tutoring. He was appalled to meet the smug jerk that had first given him his asauchi and the gatekeeper even had the gals to make remarks about how he was as short as ever.

        'You will never age,' was the promise the Gray Spirit had made during his baptism and a promise he repeated to whoever spoke about his appearance.

        He had learned that he had an immense pool of spiritual energy and by expending all of it at once, he could push his spiritual pressure to a much higher level. It was an interesting intimidation tactic that he discovered when forced to socialize with reapers. He found that he excelled in hand to hand combat and swordsmanship mainly because his style was so different from what his classmates and instructors were used to and it earned him an exotic reputation.

        Despite being surrounded by individuals of all age, Kosuke still found that he did not belong in Seireitei's strict militaristic hierarchy. Procedures and protocol were something he hated. When he was finally deemed fit to join the Gotei, he found no division that was of his interest so he joined the first one that admitted him. He did poorly at best and his 'career' would be going nowhere, not that he minded of course. He would rather spend his time slipping out of Seireitei to play with the young souls of the surrounding areas. It reached a point where he would spend more time in Rukongai then in Seireitei.


        Chapter Five
        [ 5 centuries to now ]
        He had realized the the position of Gatekeeper would allow him the freedom and flexibility he desired. He may be bound to the gate, but he could at least spend the day doing as he pleased.

        It would be silly to think that his actions would go unnoticed. Though he was by far not the only slacker, he was perhaps the one who got away with it for the longest and the one with the oddest background. Almost 3 centuries old, Kosuke still looked as he did when he first hit 50; the Gray Spirit had kept his promise, but Kosuke's extravagance caught the eye of his superiors. They could see his potential being hindered by his lack of motivation. It was during that time that one of the gatekeepers were considering retirement and much to everyone's surprise, had elected Kosuke as his replacement.

        The man had explained, or 'snitched on' depending on who you asked, the the young boy's capabilities. Many opposed the old gatekeeper's choice so the idea was put aside while another candidate was elected, but it now gave the boy something to strive for. He had realized the the position of Gatekeeper would allow him the freedom and flexibility he desired. He may be bound to the gate, but he could at least spend the day doing as he pleased.

        Time passed, decades turned into centuries until finally, barely into his 8th century, Kosuke's application as gatekeeper was accepted. He was finally out of the system, answering to only 1 individual instead of being the lackey of a whole division.

        Zanpakutō Spirit | Haiiro no Seishin has 2 forms:

        -A faceless child with skin so dark that it could be mistaken for charcoal. It has no hair or facial features, its head being eerily smooth apart from two small orifices located at eye (his right) and cheek (his left) level. Those are his ears. It has extremely keen hearing, able to pinpoint the location of the smallest sounds. It is wearing a tattered yukata. It is dirty and covered in dust, but the contrast with its dark skin makes it look almost white. Instead of fingers, it has long appendages shaped like scythes the length of his forearms poking out of its hands.

        -The second form appear to be an older version of the child, a skeletal figure of an old man in a dark gray cloak. Everything about it is gray, from its skin that is a much paler shade now to its hair. Its teeth is almost completely black while its eyes are an eerie white. He towers a good 6 feet above Kosuke. Its lower body is shaped like a large snake spanning another 6 feet before ending in a wisp of smoke. The closer to he is to his Bankai, the more often his zanpakuto spirit will take this form.

        Zanpakutō Inner World | A tropical jungle surrounding a stream of gray water cascading down from a tall cliff. Vegetation is abundant and lush, with vines creeping upwards and tall trees looming over the rushing water. There is a constant cloud of vapor at the foot of the fall where the water comes crashing down on a multitude of boulders. Shadows, mimicking the exuberance of jungle fauna flit about in the corner of one's eye, but there is no sound. It was as though the whole scene had been muted.

        At the top of the cliff, everything is barren. The ground is of a faded brown and made of dirt and rock. Where one would expect a stream to be is a large jug almost as tall as Kosuke from which the water is overflowing and pouring down the cliff.

        Zanpakutō Activation Statement | Kagome, Kagome, when will the bird come out of its cage? The Gray Spirit is calling.
        Zanpakutō Blade Changes | The zanpakuto morphs into a forest green Den-den daiko, a traditional drum toy with a handle wrapped in clothes and two bells attached by ropes hanging down from the sides. The diameter of the 6 inch thick drum is a foot long and the bronze colored handle is 10 inch long. The handle doubles as the handle of a 66 inch long malleable whip blade, an urumi, whose blade is wrapped around the drum. Said drum can be used as a shield by wrapping the strings of the 2 bells around his forearm and hand. Also possible to smack his opponent by swinging the drum from one of those strings. Though they take the appearance and texture of ropes, they are as sturdy as the rest of the zanpakuto.

        Shikai Abilities
      • Ability One Sound Recoil
        Bounce back moderate attacks of Shikai level and mid level Kido spells received by the drum in the form of a sonic boom. Weak against piercing attack, but effective against slashes or blunt blows. The force is enough to knock both the attack and Kosuke back though the latter will take considerably less damage. The ability can be activated at will, without incantation or special movement. It can also be deactivated the same way, making it impossible to tell when it is activated. The sonic booms can shield Kosuke against mechanical waves and other sound waves. Applies to both physical and energy based attacks. The trigger is pressure applied onto the drum. Cooldown of 4 posts in between attacks bounced back.

      • Ability Two Whirling Howl

        Wrap the kurumi around the drum once more before pulling quickly as though releasing a spinning top. It will send the drum whirling about, the movement resulting in a high pitched whistling sound meant to stun those who have not covered their ears by making them flinch and contract their muscle, locking them in place lasting for 1 post. After 2 posts, it will automatically roll/bounce back to Kosuke and stop whirling.Affects all within 50 meters of where the drum lands or spins off to as the drum is mobile. Cooldown of 4 posts


      • Ability Three Sonic Whip

        Done by lashing out extremely fast with the whip blade to create an arc of explosion along the trajectory of the blade. They are small but extremely condensed and have much destructive force. Detonation takes place a second after the sword has gone through the area. Each of them have the effect of a condensed sonic boom. Sonic boom can shield him against mechanical waves and other sound waves. Destructive force is equivalent to that of Sound Recoil, but area affected by by the detonation has a diameter of a feet. 1 swing can summon at most 4 of them and 2 posts are needed between attacks to reposition himself for another strike

        The shield flattens and the batter of the drum completely disappears to leave nothing more than its skeletal frame, two silver rings with razor sharp outer edges. It then grows until it reaches 6 feet in diameters and splits apart to become 2 rotating rings floating around Kosuke, each equipped with a single bell. The urumi becomes a rigid sword and shatters. Its fragments are then attached together by a single wire that appear to have elastic properties. With a flick of his wrist, he can turn it into a whip and vice versa.


        Bankai Limitations |
      • Lost of mobility. Kosuke's style of swordsmanship relies heavily on agility, something his bankai deprives him of.
      • Every time he uses his Bankai, Kosuke will age a little bit.

      • Raw destructive power

        Bankai Abilities
      • Ability One Concussive Roar
        Should anything pass through the inside of the rings, the rings will release a destructive pulse twice the strength of the Shikai's sonic booms affecting an the area 5 meters directly in front of it the hardest, the inside of the ring being the eye of the storm so to speak. The blast have enough power to stop a Bankai level physical blow should the attacker not put his full power behind it, but a barrage of them may make it through.. Things may still go through them should they have enough momentum and are sturdy enough to not be blasted into pieces. The blast needs a fraction of second to be activated so should an attack have the speed to traverse the rings before that, it will not be affected. Energy based attacks such as kido spell or ceros are likely to explode once hit by the explosion, adding to its strength. It would imply that Kosuke can not completely block explosive attacks.The reception is 2-way while the output is only 1-way meaning that Kosuke can throw in something from behind the rings and they will release a pulse, but only in the direction facing away from him. Object must be at least be an inch in diameter.

      • Ability TwoFanged Howl
        Unlike Whirling Howl, Kosuke no longer needs to wrap his sword around the 'drum' to release it. He can simply grab onto the inside of the metallic rings and toss it out like a lasso. In addition to releasing a high pitched sound, it will now spin fast enough to have a cutting edge to it. Duration is increased to 5 posts with a cooldown of 5 posts

      • Ability Three Sonic Flight.
        A lashing movement is no longer needed. Any quick movement of the blade may release a small sonic boom and it can now produce some with delayed detonating time of 30 seconds. When slicing the air, the movement will send a spinning burst of air that will pick up speed with each spin to ultimately result in a sonic boom. This implies that he can now perform ranged attacks of 200 meters with these. As the burst needs time to pick up speed, the farther the detonation is, the stronger it is ranging from a low level kido spell to a explosion with the strength of his Concussive Roar. A large movement is needed to pick up enough speed implying a cooldown of 2 posts between use. Can produce 4 bursts at a time.

        Description: The practitioner, drawing the symbols of the spell in the air, causes his/her entire body to permeate a red energy. The same red energy, engulfing the body of the target, causes complete paralysis.

        Incantation: "Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini!! Look upon yourself with horror and tear out your own throat!"
        Description: The practitioner, using the index and middle fingers, generates an orange hued tendril with spiraling yellow patterns which, ensnaring the opponent as the tendril wraps around their body, immobilizes them. The end of it remains in the hands of the user, allowing them to control the path of the tendril before and after capture. The Kidō can connect with another one of itself, if both have captured a target, and bind them together.

        Description: Creates a large rain cloud that the caster can move over a target, then disperse it to release a torrent of rain over a limited area for several minutes (3 posts). This makes seeing difficult, and is often useful for water and electric types while hindering fire and earth types.

        Description: Crackling yellow energy gathers in the user's hand, who draws in triangle mid-air. The symbol creates solidified energy on the shape of smaller triangles from its three points and fires them at the intended target, pinning them to a nearby surface, slamming into his/her body in three places in the shape of a perfect triangle and immobilizing them.

        Description: Tsuriboshi is primarily used to catch. The spell creates a ball of blue energy that fires out six "ropes" from its center. The "ropes" attach themselves to any sturdy nearby object and the energy in the center solidifies into a flat elastic-like cushion. The spell can stop falling objects similar to a safety net.

        Description: Enkōsen is primarily used for defense. The practitioner can use either both hands or his/her Zanpakutō in a blocking motion. The spell generates a dull yellow energy, which takes the form of a large spinning disk of condensed reiatsu, in front of the practitioner, blocking an opponent's attack.

      Shinigami Abilities

      Zanjutsu | Though Kosuke knows Kendo, he prefers the art of kalaripayattu since his shikai is an urumi/chuttuval. Practitioners usually hold a shield in their freehand, but in Kosuke's case, the shield is directly attached to his sword.
      Hakuda |
      Kalari grappling and Marma (pressure points), stemming from kalaripayattu.

      The martial art he practice is of Indian origin and is said to be the source of almost all forms of martial arts. Kalaripayattu is based on movements of animals, making it a rather primitive looking form of combat. It relies heavily on flexibility and agility as jumps and spins are what give their users power.

      Instead of striking with closed fists, practitioners attack with the inside of their palm, smacking their opponents in precise areas of the body. They are also known for a wide range of unpredictable kicks and jumping attacks. It is a style that needs heavy conditioning and full control of one's body.

      Striking pressure points are for the purpose of numbing one's opponent's limbs and disrupting their flow of reiatsu. However, it can also be used for healing purposes. Though not as spectacular as haido, it can revitalize a patient and is said to be very therapeutic when used in combination with massages.

      Very low. His reiatsu isn't focused on protecting his body. Instead, it is focused around his arms and legs to allow speedy movements and sharp blows. He has a remarkable stamina, however, due to his large reiryoku pool.

      Reiryoku | Reiryoku level is immense. Despite the amount of energy he has, Kosuke is very skilled at hiding his presence. He is one that is more for stealth than direct head-to-head confrontation despite his short temper.

SHIKAI
        I like the general concept of your zanpakuto a lott. Sound can be really fun to fight against too.
      • But for your first ability, does the drum reflect all attacks into sonic booms or just physical attacks? Also, due to the redirective properties, I'm going to have to ask you to put a decent cool-down on it so every attack isn't converted to sonic booms. To what caliber attack can it block? How far can the sonic boom travel at it's maximum?
      • Second ability: How far does this sound reach? When you say stunned, are you implying that their reflexes/senses are distorted, or is it more of a temporary paralysis? Also for this, if it lasts two posts, then please put a reasonable cool-down period on this as well.
      • How large (how far do they reach) are these sonic booms? How many can be created, at the maximum, from one crack of your whip? How much force is behind each of these?


BANKAI
        If you're submitting your bankai for approval, Gatekeepers aren't permitted to start off with a Bankai, so I'm going to have to ask you to put strikes through it, just so it's easier to tell that you can't use it. Also, unless you have the fourth ability approved by Onin, I'm also going to have to ask you to remove one of the abilities. I'm going to review all of them, just so everything's covered.
      • First ability: How strong are these sonic booms? How far do they reach? What strength attacks can the rings stop by destroying them with sound waves?
      • Second Ability: Duration increases are fine here, but I will have to ask for the removal of the tornado - if you stun your targets so they can't move then hit them with a tornado, that's GMish - and the addition of an appropriate cool-down for the 5-post duration.
      • How delayed can the detonating time be at it's maximum? How far does the range on this ability extend to? How strong is the sonic boom?
      • Fourth Ability: Completely turning off the mind for one post is a little too much, maybe complete paralysis or being robbed of all senses would work out better and not appear GM. That, and a significant cool-down period will need to be added, as it appears like an ultimatum-esque technique.

The second mind vanished when he obtained his Shikai's name. Sort of implicit. I'll try to reformulate that.



Edited the zanpakuto. Changes are in bold blue. . You guys may want to take off the Bankai's 4th ability from the skeleton ;P

Took off the reiryoku thing completely. It was there to explain how he could be a gatekeeper despite being physically weak, but I've noticed that Seki Seki hasn't been mentioned and he's not the only scrawny gatekeeper around.
