Hello, and welcome to the Double Battle demo! I will be conducting this in a more formal way, as you might see in the main threads of this RP guild. This means that I and JD both have a post style, a "short" OOC space after our posts, and team details in a footer below the post and OOC. (You can also include team details in your Profile/Journal thread and include a link to it in your post style, if you wish.) If you only need to learn how to write single battles, without the formalities I have here, please refer to the Mock Single Battle instead. These are the battle rules that we will be using.
You will see this in our next post, but I will be sending out Gigalith and Swanna first, while JD will be sending out Nidoking and Raichu first. Pokemon attack order is determined by base Speed--the Pokemon with the highest base Speed stat will attack first, followed by the Pokemon with the second highest, and so on. Thus, Serperior will be attacking first, followed by Raichu, Swanna, Nidoking, Glaceon, and Gigalith.
Although I list Accuracy in my move descriptions, a move's Accuracy is determined by dice block here rather than by in-game Accuracy. Unaltered, every attack has a roughly 50% chance of hitting and missing.
All future instructions and tips will be given in my or JD's after-post OOCs.
If that's all clear, then let's get this show on the road!

As Cheren and Wes exited Opelucid City, Cheren couldn't help but think back on all the memories he had made. Not too long ago, he would have thought that all this was impossible. Yet here he was, with new friends and a new Pokemon team raised with his toil and sweat... almost ready to face the Champion with someone who had shared his pain.
That thought reminded him of something--he hadn't challenged Wes to a battle in a long time. The bespectacled boy halted in his tracks, forcing his companion to stop as well. "Wes," he began, "We've come so far and we haven't even battled each other since Driftveil City. What do you say we test each other in one last battle before we go challenge the Elite Four? Megumi is raring for a battle, and I know Giga and Swanna would enjoy the training." *** (Readers: Once your character is transported into the game [Unova] and out of the real world [Kyoto], it's up to you whether you use your character's real name or your character's character's name. In this guild's fourth remake, we all used our character's character's name exclusively or more frequently than our character's real name. For instance, I use Cheren and JD uses Wes, instead of our characters' real names of Yuki and Aaron, almost exclusively for the duration of this battle.
For your convenience, each of my Pokemon are listed below in the order that they will be sent out. When writing your own Trainer battle, you will have the option to choose which Pokemon to send out in what order. Each Pokemon's details are listed as follows: Sprite, Type(s), Gender, Level, Nature, Ability, Hit Points (HP), Experience Points (EXP), Moves, Base Speed. Descriptions of each Pokemon's Ability and moves follow with asterisks.
You do not need to quote other people above your post, but it is preferred, especially if you use your footer for something else. Please do quote other people, though; it can get hard to keep up with everyone once we start posting for real.)

In battle, this will reduce damage taken by Gigalith by 20 until it faints or is switched out.
2. Swanna (Swanna)♀ || Lv. 50 || Modest || Keen Eye || 620/620 || 0/50 || Scald/Rain Dance/U-Turn/Sky Attack Base Speed = 98 **Keen Eye: The Pokemon's accuracy cannot be lowered. **Scald: An 80-Power, 100%-Accuracy move that also has a 30% chance of Burning the target. **Rain Dance: A Weather-Changing move that changes the previous weather condition to Rain. Wes was suddenly caught by a few good memories of travelling around with his good friend and partner Cheren. As he was taken out of his brief flashbacks by a voice next to him, Wes looked over at Cheren, slowing down in his tracks as well. Now that he thought about it, it had been a long while since they had fought against each other as rivals. With all the travelling they had done both Trainers had added new members to their team and none of them had been tested against each other. He had especially wanted to test out the Eeveelution that came from the first egg that Umbreon and Espeon had produced back in the Daycare. Wes looked to Cheren and grinned, nodding slowly. "I don't think Glaceon would mind a test against Megumi. Let's do it." He reached for his first Pokeball and backed away from Cheren.

Cheren smiled warmly at his companion as the other agreed to fight. He had already known that Wes wouldn't turn down an opportunity for a duel, but it warmed him to hear the Coliseum trainer say so himself. Also backing away on the open clearing, the Japanese boy wrapped his fingers around a Poke Ball. He had been intending to grab Megumi's, but his fingers encountered Giga's and Swanna's Poke Balls instead. Glancing down at the red orbs, Cheren returned his gaze to Wes, a conspiratorial smile on his face. His old friend would not be expecting this. "How about a Double Battle?" he called. "My three versus your three. It would be a good change from our normal Single Battles."
Without waiting for a reply, Cheren pushed his glasses back up his nose (the things were forever slipping down). The crystalline lenses glinted in the sunlight as he wound up and threw. "Kimi no kimeta!" he called. "Giga and Swanna!" *** [[Kimi no kimeta = Poke Ball, go!]] (Readers: If your character speaks any language other than English, don't forget to include a translation! When you ask other players for a battle, state the battle conditions [Single/Double/etc, number of Pokemon to use] before launching your Pokemon. Wes too, adjusted his visor, lowering it down so it glinted in the bright sunlight. As Cheren tossed out his two starting Pokemon, Wes reached for two red and white capsules of his own, knowing exactly who he wanted to train with before the Elite Four. "Go on, you two! Take 'em down!" Blinding even in the bright sun, the two Pokemon broke out in spectacular fashion--one a large hulking Nidoking and the other, a much smaller but equally strong Raichu. Both glared towards Cheren's Pokemon as they waited for his first move. After all this time they knew by instinct who was quickest.
But oddly, Cheren wasn't starting off with Megumi this time. A little out of character for him, but Wes had seen him do it in the past. With her not being around, it was his Raichu who was fastest this time. "Raichu, Thunderbolt on Swanna! Let's get her out quick!" Raichu called out and got down on all fours, his cheeks sparking before letting out a strong shock of lightning straight at the bird.

As the light from their thrown Poke Balls faded, Cheren saw exactly which two Pokemon Wes had sent out to challenge his, and his heart plummeted into his stomach. That Raichu was the bane of Swanna's existence. As the White Bird Pokemon bore a nasty double weakness to Electric, even one good hit from the Mouse Pokemon could take it down for good. As he expected, Wes ordered Raichu to use the one attack Cheren dreaded most. "Raichu, Thunderbolt! Take her out quick!" the other Trainer called.
"Rai! Rai!" the goldenrod mouse answered. Dropping to all fours, Raichu stuck his tail straight up in the air, his cheeks sparking as electricity coursed down his tail, suffusing him in a golden light. In a moment, a white-hot bolt of lightning lanced straight at Swanna, but the White Bird Pokemon flapped quickly out of the way, and the bolt missed her cleanly.
Cheren couldn't believe his luck. Thunderbolt almost never missed, at least compared to Thunder! Now was his chance to get back at Wes. But what to do... Giga could tank anything Raichu threw at it, but Nidoking--or, more specifically, his Earthquake--could be problematic. U-Turning to Megumi was foolish with Megahorn around, as well. That Drill Pokemon needed to be blunted, and Cheren knew exactly how he was going to do that. "Swanna!" he shouted, jabbing a finger at his target. "Nettō sono Nidokingu!"
"Wa!" With a caw, the White Bird Pokemon flapped higher and dove at the Drill Pokemon. Braking harshly at about four feet away from Nidoking, she puffed her chest up and spewed forth boiling-hot water into her target's face, obscuring them both in a mighty cloud of steam. The Drill Pokemon screamed in pain as the water seared away at it, but when the steam cleared, Cheren couldn't see any evidence that he had Burned the Pokemon at all. A shame, since he could really have used the Attack-reducing side effect of Burn, but he could perhaps try again next turn. At least he had gotten in the first successful attack.
"Yoi shigoto, Swanna!" the Japanese Trainer told his Pokemon when it returned to its original position near him. Now all he had to do was wait for Nidoking's next move. *** [[Netto... = Scald that Nidoking! // Yoi... = Good job]] (Readers: When battling with another player and not an NPC or wild Pokemon, it's best to set up a "blank" post naming only your Pokemon's attack and its intended target(s) and roll your dice before writing anything else. If your Pokemon's attack has a secondary effect, store that dice roll in your Profile thread, which doubles as your Journal/Dice Dump. This is a screenshot of this post when all I did was describe the attack and target without writing my post. This is a screenshot of the secondary effect roll that I stored in Yuki's (my character's) Profile/Journal.
According to the screenshots and dice rolls, Swanna's Scald hits Nidoking (even numbers = hit) and does not burn it (61 > 30). Although Scald is an 80-Power move, it is Super-Effective on Nidoking, doing 80*1.5=120 damage instead. If you choose to record your battles in simplified form as I do, open the LEGEND and LOG spoilers in Yuki's Journal for an example of how you can do this. You could also merely choose to leave each dice roll in your journal as you roll it. I simply prefer not to have to rifle through pages and pages of rolls to find what I did for each battle. XD
The other titles I use for my Pokemon [Swanna/White Bird Pokemon; Gigalith/Compressed Pokemon] come from the Pokedex name for them. Repetitiveness can get boring, so using alternate names every so often could help you avoid boring your readers.)
It can help improve (and lengthen) your post to recap a bit of your opponent's attack, if only to include your character's thoughts. Feel free to describe the Pokemon's actions as you imagine them to appear or--even better--as they appear in the games/anime/manga.)

Wes wasn't pleased about missing the Thunderbolt on Swanna, but he wasn't too worried. Even missing the chance for a one hit KO, he knew there would be a lot more opportunities in wait. All he had to do was be patient. In the meantime what to do about that Gigalith? Such a bulky figure, any other Pokemon would have a hard time with it. Even Raichu couldn't take it down with its lightning moves. But Nidoking was a Ground type, so he had the distinct advantage over the Rock type Gigalith. But should he take it down in a hurry? Wes knew this was just a fun grudge match. He could have a little fun with him at first. Toy with him like a cat does a mouse.
"Nidoking, use Megahorn on Gigalith!" A Bug type move being used against a Rock type normally wouldn't be such a good idea, even with its base 120 power. Regardless, Wes had a plan, and Nidoking roared as the horn on his glowed slightly white. Padding the ground like a Tauros ready to charge, Nidoking rushed forward at the Gigalith and slammed his head into its rocky hide, shattering one of the orange ores protruding from the surface. Gigalith winced and groaned from the pain and Nidoking backed away, satisfied with what had been done. When Wes looked at Gigalith again, he noticed why. Gigalith was still standing but looked more fatigued, with a sickly look on his face, almost like a child would when he was about to be ill. Wes grinned at the lucky break. "Good boy Nidoking. What now, Cheren?"

Scald: Super effective on Nidoking - 120 damage, no burn Megahorn: 120 damage on Gigalith Poison Point: Poison on Gigalith (Readers: My apologies for the placement of the 100 die roll, but this is simply to prove the point until I get my Journal set up like Nintendraw's. I'm a little behind on things as well XD
As you can see the Poison Point die fell within the range to successfully Poison Gigalith but nothing would happen if my attack had missed or I used a Special. Only Physical contact has the capacity to inflict Poison.)
As predicted, Cheren was immensely confused when he heard Wes declare that particular move. Without Megumi on the field, and especially against a defensive Pokemon like Gigalith, what could the Coliseum Trainer possibly gain by using Megahorn over a super-effective Ground-type move? As Nidoking roared and rushed at the Compressed Pokemon, punching it through, Cheren could see Gigalith stagger. When it failed to stand as tall as it had before, he glimpsed a sickly expression on its otherwise stony face. Suddenly, it dawned on him. Wes had chosen a less-effective contact move in order to afflict his Pokemon with Poison! Not only that, with that relatively ineffective move and Poison gnawing away at Gigalith's HP, his Sturdy was nullified. Any move that would normally KO it, would KO it. Cheren clenched his fists. That blasted Coliseum Trainer!
But! Cheren smirked evilly. Gigalith still had a move advantage over both of Wes's Pokemon, and with this move, he stood to shake up the battlefield quite a bit more. Quite thoroughly forgetting that this was merely a mutual test of strength, the Japanese boy flung his hand out to indicate both Nidoking and Raichu. "Giga, jinarashi Nidokingu to Raichū!" he commanded.
The indigo-and-red Pokemon roared, a noise that grated harshly on the participants' ears, and slowly lifted one gigantic foot. It then stomped down with enough force to cause the earth to swell up. The earthen tsunami rushed forwards at Wes's Pokemon. Nidoking could only partially escape the blast, while poor Raichu was caught by it full-force. Both Pokemon staggered, and when the shock wave passed, Cheren could see dirt clinging to both of their bodies, weighing them down. He grinned and pumped his fist. With Wes's Raichu slowed down, his Swanna was now the fastest Pokemon on the field. Time to take that Drill Pokemon down for good. "Yoi shigoto, Giga!" he praised as Gigalith lumbered back towards him. His fierce joy was dampened, though, when the Compressed Pokemon flinched, still bearing that sickly expression on its face. Cheren knew that it had taken damage from its Poisoning. he needed to finish this quickly if he was to secure victory. *** [[jinarashi... = Bulldoze Nidoking and Raichu]] (Gigalith's Bulldoze GLANCED OFF of Nidoking and HIT Raichu, both of whom are weak to the move. Both would have taken 60*1.5=90 damage from Bulldoze, but the attack GLANCED OFF of Nidoking, so it does 90*0.75=67.5=68 damage instead (rounding up).
Since both Pokemon were hit, both Pokemon's base Speeds were lowered by 10. This puts Nidoking at base Speed 75 and--more importantly--Raichu's base Speed at 90. Now, Swanna is the fastest Pokemon on the field (and nothing else changes because Gigalith is a frigging rock XD).
Giga's Poison means that he loses 10HP every turn until he faints or is switched out. So much for my tank. XD
Since Swanna moves first and Giga moves last now, on my next turn, unless the attacking order changes, I can now roll for both my Pokemon at once. JD can do likewise since his Pokemon now attack 2nd and 3rd. It's a good idea to do this whenever your Pokemon are attacking back-to-back, but just be sure your Pokemon are indeed attacking back-to-back and be aware of any Speed changes that might upset that.)
(JD, as for STAB, might be too much math for the newbies. If we account for it at all, maybe just a +10 or +20 bonus--but before or after SE/IE/Crit?)

It can only be avoided by Dig, Fly, or Dive and can hit non-adjacent foes in Triple Battles. **Giga Drain: A 75-Power, 100%-Accuracy move that recovers half of the damage dealt to the user's target as HP. **Leech Seed: A Status-Inducing move that afflicts the target with the Sapped status, causing it to lose 10HP (and the user to regain 10HP) until the target faints or is switched out.
With the Mouse Pokemon grounded--literally--Cheren was free to attack first. As before, he pointed directly at Nidoking. "Swanna, nettō sono Nidokingu!" he repeated. Swanna cawed again and flew higher, puffing up her chest and charging forth once more to release her load of boiling-hot water in Nidoking's face. Again, the Drill Pokemon screamed and stumbled back, but this time, when the fog cleared, Cheren could see its purple-scaled hide singed with fiery red. With Nidoking Burned, any physical attack it tried, contact or not, would be less effective than before. Such an effect would surely help his cause. "Yoi shigoto, Swanna!" he congratulated her, stroking her feathery head. The White Bird Pokemon cooed happily before returning to the battlefield to await Raichu's next attack. *** [[netto... = Scald that Nidoking / Yoi... = Good job]] (Scald hit (even number) and Burned (7 < 30) Nidoking. Nidoking takes SE damage from Scald, which still means 120HP lost. Like Poison, Burn reduces HP by 10 until the afflicted Pokemon faints or is switched out. UNlike Poison, Burn reduces the afflicted Pokemon's damage output by 10.)
(I just realized something, JD. If Wes is no longer playable, you technically don't have a journal to dump your secondary dice rolls in, do you? XD Will you put your secondary rolls in here, in another thread, or in Christian's journal, and if not the last, should I do likewise?)
Team:
1. Gigalith (Giga)♂ || Lv. 50 || Relaxed || Sturdy || 490/620 || 0/50 || POISONED || Bulldoze/Power Gem/Rock Blast/Iron Defense Base Speed = 25 **Sturdy: Pokemon with full health cannot be KOed with one hit. **Bulldoze: A 60-Power, 100%-Accuracy move that also lowers the base Speed of a Pokemon by 10. **Power Gem: An 80-Power, 100%-Accuracy move with no secondary effect. **Rock Blast: A 25-Power, 90%-Accuracy move that can hit 2-5 times in one turn. **Iron Defense: A Self-Boosting move that raises base Defense by 2 stages.
This boosts the effectiveness of Water attacks and decreases the effectiveness of Fire attacks. **U-Turn: A 70-Power, 100%-Accuracy move that also allows its user to switch out immediately after use. **Sky Attack: A 140-Power, 100%-Accuracy, 2-turn move that has a 30% chance of causing the target to Flinch. Can hit non-adjacent enemies in Triple Battles. Unlike Fly, Sky Attack does not allow user to evade attacks during the first turn.
