Salubri wasn't very fond of the winter. The cold air chilled his delicate flutter wings and made them ache. He couldn't have flown in this weather even if he wanted do, though as he had grown up and began to learn to fly, he had been fitted with piercing with little weights that kept him from getting far off the ground. It had been explained to him that this was tradition; and he viewed them more of jewelry than chains.
But recently he had grown bored, and frankly... lonely. He hadn't made an concentrated effort to get to know anyone one else in the flock - neither the other males or Vanmoriel, who had brought him here. Oh, Vanmoriel he was still quite enamored with, but as they had grown up, he was beginning to come to some painful realizations about their friendship. He saw her less and less, and while he knew some males 'belonged' to some of the other female harpies, she had never, er, claimed him.
He mostly stayed out of anyone else's way. He knew better than show any kind of disrespect to the other mares of the Flock, but he hadn't gotten out of his way to catch any of their eyes. But now, in the dead of winter, he was feeling exceptionally blue and went poking around the territory, hoping he may run into someone kind enough to pay him some attention for a while.

The bitter cold of winter was difficult to endure even with a winter coat. Quadrille was as pale as an apple blossom and her coat didn't like to take in much warmth from the sun. Still, the Flock mare had found ways to adapt. Her favorite of these ways was to get her heart racing. She did this most days by hunting for game. Most of the time she did this in a group but almost as often she went on solo hunts for small game.
Today's hunt had been a success and she had caught a pair of rabbits. She hadn't kept either of them. Quadrille still felt well fed and food was scarce during the winter. It was better to help those that couldn't hunt for themselves even if they needed too.
Quadrille felt proud and it showed in her walk. She picked her claws, coated in dried blood at the tops, in an almost dainty fashion before strutting forward with a bounce in every step. This all stopped the moment her eyes fell on a colorful form out and about. Pierced wings. A stallion. Quadrille scanned the area but saw no signs of any mare accompanying him. That was strange.
"You there!" She called to the stallion adopting a quick march to replace her earlier strutting. "Are you alone?"Kamiki I will tag you like this then!

Salubri's ears swiveled back at the call and he peered over his shoulder to see if the voice was calling to him. It seemed it was, as she saw a lovely harpy mare trotting his way. She was a pale beauty, with a snowy white mane and tail. He stopped and lifted his head, standing straight as a sign of respect. But when she asked if he was alone, he looked from side to side, his ears flattening against his head. "Yes, m'lady," he said, suddenly hoping he hadn't done something wrong. He had barely strayed out of the foal and neutral grounds, and he knew he wasn't as well versed on the customs as he should have been; his own fault for being such a recluse.

As she drew closer Quadrille gave the stallion another look over. He stood politely and didn't run when she approached. He answered respectfully. All of these were signs that he was good stock and not trying to cause trouble. Still, Quadrille frowned ever so slightly. Stallion's were not supposed to walk around without a female escort or that was what she had always been taught. Some mares let their preferred pets wander free on occasion though, perhaps he was one of those? Outside of her family and hunting group Quadrille really only knew a handful of others female and male alike. This stallion's face was entirely unfamiliar to her.
"Have you been selected by one of my Sisters?" She questioned keeping her tone very business like without seeming too cross. If he wasn't running then there wasn't much of a problem. It was just better if the stallion's had a mare around to make sure they didn't get into trouble. It seemed that Quadrille would be that mare just until she got to the bottom of things.

Salubri knew enough to stand still and straight and respectful as the mare looked him over. But when she asked if he had been 'selected' he found himself at a loss on how to answer. He suddenly felt pressured; knowing he may very well end up in some sort of trouble if he answered incorrectly. "No, m'lady," he said after a moment of contemplation. He chewed on his lip for a moment before continuing. "Vanmoriel bought me here a few seasons ago" he elaborated, "But she hasn't, uhm..." he felt a blush unwillingly come to his face, causing the pinks of his ears and nose to darken, "selected me, m'lady."

So he wasn't claimed but was unaccompanied. Or had been. Quadrilled sighed slightly and looked to the sky. It wasn't as though she had been trained for these things. She never spent much time bothering with stallions. She didn't want to nest or produce young and didn't see much point in keeping one around for anything else. Slowly she let her gaze drop back to the male in question. Still there. He was pretty new on top of everything, a few seasons was nothing to a flock born female like herself.
"Well...where were you going?" Quadrille asked. Whether she liked it or not she was responsible for this male for a short while. She would get him where he was going and find someone else to make sure he stayed out of trouble from there. That would be the end of her involvement and she could spend the rest of her day in peace.

Uh-oh...he thought. He could tell by this line of questioning he had done something wrong. "No where in particular, m'lady," he said, trying to keep his voice from shaking. He looked down at the ground, for the first time in a while feeling like an impetuous young colt. He shook out his mane and tried to steel his resolve. He could be respectful without being simpering, right?
He looked back up and met her gaze. "Just exploring the territory, ma'am."

"Nowhere?" Quadrille repeated not quite believing her ears. He was literally just out unaccompanied for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Quadrille stared at him as he took interest in the ground on which they stood. This was just perfect. The new ones weren't getting the proper educations. They didn't know even the basics. Stallions weren't to roam randomly unless they had special permission. That was what Quadrille had always been told and that was what she understood. This one definitely didn't have special permissions.
Quadrille frowned at him as met her eyes. "You should not be out like this." She said crossly. "Didn't they teach you that?" She tried to remind herself that he hadn't been there long and no, he probably did not know that.

Salubri's ears pinned back against his skull at the scolding. "I'm sorry, m'lady," he said quickly. "I know I can't leave the territory and I know I can't go hunting with the Sisters, but I'm sorry I didn't know I couldn't explore within the bounds of the Flock." He lowered his head in a humble bow. "Please forgive me. I will go back to where I came from now."
The mane fell over his eyes as his head dipped, and he tossed his mane and risked a peer up at the impressive mare, giving a smile that he hoped came off as charmingly self-depreciating and not smug.

Kamiki I am SO sorry for the delay! @_@ I was so busy and then I couldn't find the RP. Quadrille nodded her head slowly as he made his quick apology and explanation. He seemed to understand exactly what he needed to now. Quadrille almost smiled until he said that he would be going back to where he had come from. Quadrille’s muscled tensed slightly as she felt a rush of panic. Had he not understood after all? He’d sounded like he’d comprehended her meaning perfectly. The smile that had wanted to take its place on her peach colored features went back into hiding. Her red eyes fixed on the stallion’s gold irises to let him know that she was far from amused.
“You can’t go back where you came from.” Quadrille said sounding as though she had just bitten into something sour. “Not alone.” Perhaps she was overreacting. There probably wasn’t any need to explain this to him. She could have just as easily dismissed him and then followed after him silently like she was hunting. Something about that notion made Quadrille uncomfortable though. She didn’t want to look like she was being anything but formal and appropriate. Following after a stallion like a hunter might make her seem like one of her sisters that were desperate to nest and have young ones.
Quadrille was not like that. There wasn’t necessarily anything wrong with such a life but it seemed very unfulfilling to the young mare. She couldn’t even find joy in being in the presence of males and she never spent time around the nursery. Not since she had left. No, nesting would never be something for her. She would live her life for the glory of the hunt. She would bring life giving meat back to the flock and relish the praise. That was something she took great pleasure in. The warmth burning in her muscles, the sweat on her back, the dirt on her hooves, and the blood on her claws that came after a fresh hunt brought her joy. And then, even filthy, her sisters would smile at her and thank her. There wasn’t a greater feeling in the world than knowing that you were directly beneficial to your Flock.
Finally, Quadrille realized that she had been staring holes into the stallion as she thought over her life and her life purpose. That was a bit embarrassing. Quadrille fought against her body’s desire to darken her cheeks by pretending that it was nothing. The stallion would likely think she was just considering his fate critically or something. He didn’t need to know the truth. Not quite enough time had passed for it to be absolutely bizarre, just a bit uncomfortable. Everything could still be salvaged.
“Now, tell me where you are going. I will take you there and make sure there is someone to watch over you.” She said with more force than was needed.

Salubri began to sweat as the mare's bored into his. He looked away, but dared not to move without her permission. How he had managed to go this long without getting himself in hot water before was beyond him. Perhaps Vanmoriel was not the best 'example' of a typical Sister, but more kind than the lot. But even then...how long had it been since she had given him any attention at all? She was all grown up now, a perfectly capable mare in her own right.
Maybe she had simply outgrown their childish friendship.
If she ever really was his friend...looking back to Quadrille, he began to question if he was completely disillusioned by this whole set up. "I'm not going anywhere, m'lady," he said, when she finally spoke. He looked a bit deflated, but tried to keep up appearances. "If you could escort me back to the safety zone, I would be most grateful, Sister."

Quadrille didn't bother to point out that even returning to the safety zone was going somewhere. That would only be childish and argumentative. "Just to the safety zone? Nowhere else?" Quadrille asked just to be certain. He could be trying to trick her though she seriously doubted that. It sounded more like she had just managed to crush his spirit out of him. That hadn't really been her intent. She wanted all the males to comply with the rules, she didn't want them to be miserable. Even if she didn't care to be around them much a sad stallion made awful company for her Sisters.Kamiki This was the best I could manage. @_@

The young stallion rolled his shoulders and forced that charming smile back on his face. "I don't know many other places to go, hence why I was exploring," he countered. He looked over his new escort, trying to get himself out of his own head and more into the moment. He could sulk over Vonmoriel later. "Perhaps I was just letting boredom get the better of me, m'lady. What do you do for fun? Or, perhaps what do you like to have stallions such as myself do for you, for fun?"
He gave her a smile and lift of his eyebrow, though any untoward behavior was unintentional on his part. He knew many of the Sisters liked to watch stallions prance around or dance. Vanmoriel had liked to paint, and often used Salubri as her inspiration for creations.

To a certain degree Quadrille could understand that. She had often gone exploring the moment she was allowed out of the nursery. Exploring had eventually turned into hunting and what had been strange and wondrous at one point had become routine. Stallions did not have the luxury of being disillusioned in such a way. Areas that seemed mysterious would likely always be full of wonder for them. Boredom was another thing she could understand. That was as far as her shared experiences with this stallion seemed to go.
"I hunt." Quadrille said flatly. This was not something a stallion could do but it was all Quadrille really did to occupy her time. Her entire life revolved around the hunt and she loved it but that wasn't exactly an activity that could occupy a stallion. She frowned at him and also at herself. She should have just taken him to the safety zone and left him there. He could have found something to cheer him up there.
"I don't need anything else." She added defensively. "Certainly not anything from a stallion." She narrowed her eyes at him to remind him to mind his manners. She had spent enough time around the whistle stallions checking that her capture hadn't keeled over to know a thing or two about males.
