NAME : Melanie Devereux
GENDER : Female
AGE : 28
OCCUPATION : Novelist and Blogger. Also receives a monthly check from investment in her father's business, DevX Enterprises.
RACE : Human - French and Romanian Descent
LIKES : Men | Creative Writing | Family & Friends | Love | Peace | Tolerance | Unity | Honesty | Confidence | Most Animals | Food -- of ALL kinds (especially seafood) | Water | Danger | Risks
DISLIKES : War | Right-Wing Conservatives | Hatred | Intolerance | Ignorance | Angry or Mean People | Rudeness | Spiders | Insects | Deserts or Dry Areas | Country or "Hick" Music

LOOKS : [ With Glasses | Without Glasses ]

With ivory skin, Melanie stands at 5'7" and weighs in at about 135lbs. She has naturally light auburn hair which she styles often and has hazel-amber eyes which she considers to be her best feature, despite needing glasses. She always tries to keep her posture upright to give off a confident aura. She keeps her makeup light and complementary to her features and her clothing choices are always fitting for her body type and involve a lot of earth tones.

PERSONALITY :Chaotic Good :: Mel has always been determined. Whenever she puts her mind to something, it gets done. The woman is a workaholic and she knows it; constantly writing stories and spending tons of time and energy pouring into them. Mel is, overall, a complete optimist and has infectious energy. She makes friends easily because she is charismatic and dependable. She is also an advocate for peace and equality and oftentimes expresses this through her writing. Growing up with the many elderly tutors instead of friends her own age, Mel has adapted a very wise perception on life. One of Melanie's more prominent flaws is her stubbornness. It is extremely hard for her to accept opposing opinions. She can be quite resolute about certain subjects and will fight for their cause. Her stubborn ways have actually caused some problems throughout her life such as: family drama, lost love, and even the loss of glowing career opportunities. Being spoiled as a child caused her to have expensive taste as an adult, which she is very outspoken about. She longs to settle down with a family of her own one day, making her quite the hopeless romantic. Where children are concerned, she takes a very nurturing role with them and isn't afraid to spoil them just as she was.

HISTORY : Melanie was born into a very well off family. Two doting parents and an older brother and sister. Melanie wanted for nothing and was given most anything she desired. Being the youngest, she was babied and spoiled throughout her childhood, causing strain between her and her sister, who scrutinized her on a regular basis. This disapproval just fueled Melanie's determination to succeed in life.

A rather sheltered child, Melanie was sent to private tutors. She hated the loneliness and lack of friends that ensued but Mel found writing to be an outlet for these emotions and used it to imagine many worlds of fantasy. Writing was her passion from a young age and she continued to perfect her craft as she grew.

At eighteen, she attended a small private college in Barton Town. It was there that Mel had obtained a degree in creative writing. She began by writing her own blogs which, because of her opinionated outlook, received mixed reviews. Mel wrote many short stories and tried to get published; but because of her blogs, it was extremely difficult for any company to accept it. So, to keep herself from experiencing negative backlash due to the popularity of her controversial blogs, she began writing under the pseudonym "Blake Bellerose". Now she's constantly looking for inspiration for her stories everywhere, finally moving to Durem from her family's hometown of Barton.

Unknown Fortune
Fortune tellers have been around for centuries; telling souls what will occur in their lifetime. Fortune telling was considered "taboo" by many, but some were interested enough to go and have their fortunes told. This fortune was about to come true at the time of the Storm, although when the powers collided, the fortune was never brought to light, cascading down to earth in a physical manifestation of itself, a black, red and purple bolt-shaped rock which irradiated a different feeling for all that got close. Some felt happy when touching this rock, others felt absolute terror. No one knows why exactly this rock is the way it is, but now it belongs to the Lab.

*NOTE: The physicality of this essence can definitely change if that is not allowed.
*NOTE 2: The powers from this essence would be up to the OWNER of the other Raevan.
Example: My Raevan touches your Raevan and they suddenly feel a sense of -insert emotion here- due to their future. My Raevan would not be able to control emotions or anything, it would just give off the emotion the Raevan will be feeling sometime in the near future. Could be cool, if it's too god-mode or anything this can be changed/edited out as well.

A Morpho butterfly may be one of over 29 accepted species and 147 accepted subspecies of butterflies in the genus Morpho. They are Neotropical butterflies found mostly in South America as well as Mexico and Central America. Morphos range in wingspan from the 7.5 cm (3 inch) M. rhodopteron to the imposing 20 cm (8 inch) Sunset Morpho, M. hecuba. The name Morpho, meaning changed or modified, is also an epithet of Aphrodite and Venus.

Morphos are diurnal, as males spend the mornings patrolling along the courses of forest streams and rivers. They are territorial and will chase any rivals.Morphos typically live alone, excluding in the mating season.

The genus Morpho is palatable but some species (such as M. amathonte) are very strong fliers;birds – even species which are specialized for catching butterflies on the wing – find it very hard to catch them. The conspicuous blue coloration shared by most Morpho species may be a case of Müllerian mimicry, or may be 'pursuit aposematism'.

Morphos have a very distinctive slow, bouncy flight pattern due to the wing area being enormous relative to the body size. Gentle as a doe, sweet as the fruit juice it drinks, and angelic as the first snowfall of winter.

Bumble Bee
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

A bumblebee is any member of the bee genus Bombus, in the family Apidae. There are over 250 known species,[1] existing primarily in the Northern Hemisphere although they also occur in South America. They have been introduced to New Zealand and the Australian state of Tasmania.
Bumblebees are social insects that are characterised by black and yellow body hairs, often in bands. However, some species have orange or red on their bodies, or may be entirely black.[2] Another obvious (but not unique) characteristic is the soft nature of the hair (long, branched setae), called pile, that covers their entire body, making them appear and feel fuzzy. They are best distinguished from similarly large, fuzzy bees by the form of the female hind leg, which is modified to form a corbicula: a shiny concave surface that is bare, but surrounded by a fringe of hairs used to transport pollen (in similar bees, the hind leg is completely hairy, and pollen grains are wedged into the hairs for transport).
Like their relatives the honey bees, bumblebees feed on nectar and gather pollen to feed their young.

Ferocactus
User Image

Ferocactus is a genus of large barrel-shaped cacti, mostly with large spines and small flowers. There are about 30 species included in the genus. They are found in the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico.

They are desert dwellers and can cope with some frost and intense heat. The typical habitat is hot and very arid, and the plants have adapted to exploit water movement to concentrate their biomass in areas where water is likely to be present. Like Sclerocactus, Ferocactus typically grow in areas where water flows irregularly or depressions where water can accumulate for short periods of time. They are most often found growing along arroyos (washes) where their seeds have been subjected to scarfication due to water movement, but they oddly also tend to grow along ridges in spots where depressions have formed and can hold water for some period of time.

Ferocactus have very shallow root systems and are easily uprooted during flash floods. The "fishhook" spines and the armored web of spines enclosing the cactus body in many species of this genus are adaptations which allow the plant to move to more favorable locations. The seeds germinate in areas where water movement occurs or in areas where standing water accumulates for some period of time, and during flash floods, the hooked spines allow the plants to be caught on waterborne debris, uprooted and carried to areas where water tends to accumulate.

In cultivation ferocactus require full sun, little water, and good drainage. They are popular as houseplants. They cannot tolerate freezing temperatures for extended periods, which typically cause them to yellow, bleach, then slowly die. Propagation is usually from seeds.

Angel's Trumpet

AKA: Brugmansia
Brugmansia is a genus of seven species of flowering plants in the family Solanaceae. Their large, fragrant flowers give them their common name of angel's trumpets, a name sometimes used for the closely related genus Datura. Brugmansia are woody trees or shrubs, with pendulous, not erect, flowers, that have no spines on their fruit. Datura species are herbaceous bushes with erect (not pendulous) flowers, and most have spines on their fruit.

Brugmansia are large shrubs or small trees, with semi-woody, often many-branched trunks. They can reach heights of 3–11 m (10–36 ft). The leaves are alternately arranged along the stems, generally large, 10–30 cm (4–12 in) long and 4–18 cm (2–7 in) across, with an entire or coarsely toothed margin, and are often covered with fine hairs. The name "angel's trumpet" refers to the large, pendulous, trumpet-shaped flowers, 14–50 cm (6–20 in) long and 10–35 cm (4–14 in) across at the opening. They come in shades of white, yellow, pink, orange, green, or red. Most have a strong, pleasing fragrance that is most noticeable in the evening. Flowers may be single, double, or more.

Most Brugmansia are fragrant in the evenings to attract pollinating moths.[7] One species lacking scent, the red-flowered Brugmansia sanguinea, is pollinated by long-billed hummingbirds.[2] Brugmansia have two main stages to their life cycle. In the initial vegetative stage the young seedling grows straight up on usually a single stalk, until it reaches its first main fork at 80–150 cm (2.6–4.9 ft) high. It will not flower until after it has reached this fork, and then only on new growth above the fork. Cuttings taken from the lower vegetative region must also grow to a similar height before flowering, but cuttings from the upper flowering region will often flower at a very low height.
One interesting example of plant/animal interaction involves the butterfly Placidula euryanassa, which uses Brugmansia suaveolens as one of its main larval foods. It has been shown that these can sequester the plant's tropane alkaloids and store them through the pupal stage on to the adult butterfly, where they are then used as a defense mechanism, making themselves less palatable to vertebrate predators.

Brugmansia are most often grown today as flowering ornamental plants.
In modern medicine, important alkaloids such as scopolamine, hyoscyamine, and atropine, found in Brugmansia and other related members of Solanaceae, have proven medical value for their spasmolytic, anti-asthmatic, anticholinergic, narcotic and anesthetic properties, although many of these alkaloids, or their equivalents, are now artificially synthesized.[14]
Brugmansia have also traditionally been used in many South American indigenous cultures in medical preparations and as a ritualistic hallucinogen for divination, to communicate with ancestors, as a poison in sorcery and black magic, and for prophecy. Medicinally, they have mostly been used externally as part of a poultice, tincture, ointment, or where the leaves are directly applied transdermally to the skin. Traditional external uses have included the treating of aches and pains, dermatitis, orchitis, arthritis, rheumatism, headaches, infections, and as an anti-inflammatory. They have been used internally much more rarely due to the inherent dangers of ingestion. Internal uses, in highly diluted preparations, and often as a portion of a larger mix, have included treatments for stomach and muscle ailments, as a decongestant, to induce vomiting, to expel worms and parasites, and as a sedative. In a concentrated or refined form, derivatives of Brugmansia are also used for murder, seduction, and robbery.[15][16][17][18]
Several South American cultures have used Brugmansia as a treatment for unruly children, that they might be admonished directly by their ancestors in the spirit world, and thereby become more compliant. Mixed with maize beer and tobacco leaves, it has been used to drug wives and slaves before they were buried alive with their dead lord.

All parts of Brugmansia are poisonous, with the seeds and leaves being especially dangerous.[17][21] Brugmansia are rich in Scopolamine (hyoscine), hyoscyamine, and several other tropane alkaloids.[22] Effects of ingestion can include paralysis of smooth muscles, confusion, tachycardia, dry mouth, diarrhea, migraine headaches, visual and auditory hallucinations, mydriasis, rapid onset cycloplegia, and death.[23][24][25]
The hallucinogenic effects of Brugmansia were described in the journal Pathology as "terrifying rather than pleasurable".[26] The author Christina Pratt, in An Encyclopedia of Shamanism, says that "Brugmansia induces a powerful trance with violent and unpleasant effects, sickening aftereffects, and at times temporary insanity".[17] These hallucinations are often characterized by complete loss of awareness that one is hallucinating, disconnection from reality, and amnesia of the episode, such as one example reported in Psychiatry and Clinical Neuroscience of a young man who amputated his own p***s and tongue after drinking only 1 cup of Brugmansia tea.[27] The Swiss naturalist and explorer Johann von Tschudi described the effects of Brugmansia ingestion on one individual in Peru:
Soon after drinking the Tonga, the man fell into a dull brooding, he stared vacantly at the ground, his mouth was closed firmly, almost convulsively and his nostrils were flared. Cold sweat covered his forehead. He was deathly pale. The jugular veins on his throat were swollen as large as a finger and he was wheezing as his chest rose and sank slowly. His arms hung down stiffly by his body. Then his eyes misted over and filled with huge tears and his lips twitched convulsively for a brief moment. His carotids were visibly beating, his respiration increased and his extremities twitched and shuddered of their own accord. This condition would have lasted about a quarter of an hour, then all these actions increased in intensity. His eyes were now dry but had become bright red and rolled about wildly in their sockets and all his facial muscles were horribly distorted. A thick white foam leaked out between his half open lips. The pulses on his forehead and throat were beating too fast to be counted. His breathing was short, extraordinarily fast and did not seem to lift the chest, which was visibly fibrillating. A mass of sticky sweat covered his whole body which continued to be shaken by the most dreadful convulsions. His limbs were hideously contorted. He alternated between murmuring quietly and incomprehensibly and uttering loud, heart-rending shrieks, howling dully and moaning and groaning.[2]
Some municipalities prohibit the purchase, sale, or cultivation of Brugmansia plants.
In 1994, 112 teenagers were admitted to hospitals from ingesting Brugmansia in Florida alone. The concentrations of alkaloids in all parts of the plant differ markedly. They even vary with the seasons and the level of hydration, so it is nearly impossible to determine a safe level of alkaloid exposure.

๑ [ Name ] Elise Devereux
๑ [ Gender ] Female
๑ [ Orientation ] Bisexual
๑ [ Post Color ] #6FB3E3

Unknown Fortune || Morpho Butterfly
๑ [ Personality Traits ]
        Essence: Mystical, Imaginative, Meddlesome
        Soul: Fickle, Gentle, Sweet
        Unique: Allocentric, Blunt, Effeminate

        Pros: Imaginative, Allocentric, Gentle, Sweet
        Neutral: Mystical, Effeminate
        Cons: Fickle, Meddlesome, Blunt

๑ [ Personality ] Elise could be referred to as quite effeminate in general, although she has many quirks that make her unique. She does care about others to an extreme and is generally very sweet. Although her curiosity about other's lives leaves her to intrude on other people's personal matters without much care (oftentimes meaning well). Elise isn't afraid to tell the truth about something and has been referred to as being extremely blunt. She is also fickle and cannot be satisfied too long with any one activity. Love is sure to be her downfall, as she will likely go from man to man (or woman to woman) depending upon her mood at the time. Her imaginative and mystical nature allows her to be totally fine on her own within her own mind. She could be doing nothing but writing, reading, drawing, looking at the stars, and just be entertained for hours within her own head imagining anything and everything.

๑ [ Likes ] Looking at stars, writing, drawing, being around others or alone (depending upon her mood), using her imagination, spirituality, and of course, Melanie.
๑ [ Dislikes ] When others are angry or mean to/with her, hatred of all kinds, unimaginative people, people with bland personalities, people who dislike her.

๑ [ Feeding ] Elise will be fed by the emotional reaction of her "Fortune Touch" ability. She will get the "full" sensation after someone has touched her and their emotional reaction will be able to feed her (even though it wouldn't necessarily do anything to the person/Raevan being touched). [[NOTE: If anyone has a better idea for this, please feel free to help me out. I'm having a bit of trouble on this end.]]

๑ [ Powers ]
Fortune Touch :: Passive :: Simply touching Elise for the first time will produce an emotional reaction (ie: joy, anger, sadness) within the person/Raevan touching her based on an emotion that will be occurring soon in the future. As her other powers grow, she will be able to use this as an active ability.

Vivid Dreaming :: Passive :: Oftentimes, Elise will have very vivid dreams. These dreams will often contain daily rituals that will occur to her (and as her powers grow, possibly to others) throughout the day/sometime in the near future. Deja Vu will have nothing on Elise as she will have it almost constantly.

Fortune Telling :: Active :: As her powers grow, so will her skills. Being a "psychic" is a bit of a stretch to be called, but being able to call upon the spirits and seeing someone's future is definitely in the cards for her one day with enough practice and patience.

Camouflage :: Active :: When Elise grows, she will be able to tap into her soul's power, to camouflage herself in certain instances (especially when scared/frightened). Not turn completely invisible by any means, but she will be able blend in with some surroundings here and there; especially if she's in the woods.

More powers to come. Suggestions? Please let me know!

Hi there! I thought I'd do a quick little reply to your requests in the main thread. c:

As far as approval goes, nymphs are okay. I am using one for my quest, and the reason why they're accepted is because nymphs, from a mythological standpoint, are still nature spirits. They are merely depicted as humanoid creatures in artwork and stories. Something like a werewolf or a vampire, something that used to be human or that comes from a human wouldn't be accepted. Does that make sense?

However, I have to be honest: Your soul choices, while nice, are fairly...predictable. You have a water-based essence, and you've chosen two possible water-based souls. Generally judges look for more contrast, because that can lead to oftentimes more interesting raevans! I'm not going to tell you to change it, because it's ultimately your choice, but it might be something to think about. Also, I think that a naiad is unfortunately rather similar to an already-used soul, a sea fairy. Again, something to think about.

You have a good start here with the essence; I think it's really interesting! The element of danger could bring some interesting things to your raevan concept. o u ob
PostPosted: Wed Jan 29, 2014 1:49 pm

Oh, thank you quite kindly!

Yes, I was also told that by another source as well via PM that it may be a better idea to compliment the essence with something else that isn't necessarily water-based.

So, I do agree, and the next time I'm at an actual computer, will probably delete the soul choices I have, because in retrospect, they are a bit bland with a water essence, hehe.

So, back to the drawing boards there. Hmm...I would love to add to the danger aspect of her, but make it an "accidental danger" where she can only really be dangerous whilst using her powers, or by accidentally doing something that would cause someone harm without meaning to.

Haha. Sort of weird, but putting it here until I can officially update it.

Accidental Danger made me think of thorns, then I thought of cactus and bramble. Since bramble produces blackberries, I'm kind of thinking about doing a bramble soul.

The product could be sweet, and could add the element and power of thorns being destructive with her already "dry water"...

Must continue to brainstorm more on this.

Hi Fae! I'm not sure if your quest is open but I'm just gonna leave you a small note to remind you that man-made things or anything not natural are no go for souls - such as the Fortune Cookie soul you have listed.

Happy Questing! :'DD
