Wardrobe | Mai presently wears the standard Shinigami uniform, although has made some alterations to it. The sleeves are cut short, and her shirt was cut to halter neck. Though she felt uncomfortable showing off skin at first, it gave her a self-esteem boost.

House Wife Material: Besides her having Spiritual Power..She can cook, she really hasn't gone to much reading and studying into cooking so she's not a professional, but she is able to make a good homemade meal. She has learned how to sew and clean when she would help around the house growing up with a family of seven and her parents were mostly busy with work.
Busy-body: Mai also tends to work a lot, if she finishes paperwork she will look or make other work to keep herself busy. She gets to the points to where she overworks herself and when this happens, she becomes a mean and sarcastic woman from being stressed out!...But then apologizes for saying any cruel things the next day.
Flirt-Master: Mai used to get nervous when complimented, involved in any kind of flirting made her uncomfortable and she immediately turned red and started ramble in an apologetic way. She was also very insecure about her body, mainly her breasts, for she is quite a busty women. However, with the enhancement to her shinigami uniform and encouragement from friends, Mai has become the Seireitei Flirt, being proud of her body, though she would never give herself willingly to another without being sure of her own feelings.

What kind of childhood is this...? Chapter One: Biting at The Cold
Time Frame? 500 years ago
"And so it begins... Abandoned"
Location: West Rukongai; District 1, Junrinan.
A pair of bruised, battered feet dip into a small riverside pond and a small whimper escapes the chapped lips of a young girl. "...O-ouch..." Mai cries, descending into the water. Raising her beige kimono above her knees, she sighed, noticing another rip by her left hip. She could fit her entire fist through it, and she didn't have any supplies to mend it. Being an orphan never guaranteed the life of prosperity. Mai never wanted to be an orphan in the first place, but she had no choice. The day she found out, she had woken up in a bed of leaves with the absence of her parents. After waiting 2 days, Mai began to look for them instead. Thus she had been venturing out in West Rukongai for the next three days.
Having no shoes on, Mai made her inquisitive journey over the sharp rocks and riverbeds around the mountains. She had a knack for instinct and was able to copy animalistic gestures by seeing what berries they ate, and grabbed bushels of them quietly, slinking away. A day later, Mai came across a small village, and a shack that smelled of freshly smoked fish. Her hunger was on the brink of insanity. Following the aroma to the porch of the shack, her golden eyes landed on a plate perched outside for cooling. A salivation began to form in her mouth, and she could feel her feet move slowly towards the platter. Mai had stared at it for quite a while, and her patience betrayed her, as she went for the large fish with both hands and took a gruesome bite. Although it burned her tongue, she had savagely devoured the piece of fish and quickly spit out the bones that scraped the roof of her mouth for another taste. Her eyes widened to see a cup filled to the brim of liquid right beside the plate and swiftly drank all that was left in it. It had a burning sensation, but her thirst was quenched, and Mai sighed loudly, setting the cup down.
"My my... said a masculine voice. Mai looked up to find a large man staring back down at her with squinty eyes and long dark hair. Mai gasped and started to make her way back into the brush of the forest when she had tripped over a stone, causing her to scrape her knees and create another hole in her raggedy robe. She looked back to find the man walking towards her slowly, and Mai began to squirm away when he towered over her. "Hey now...I'm not mad you finished my lunch." he chuckled, scooping her up in his arms and causing her to gasp again. "Such pretty eyes you have... Where are your parents?" Mai had already succumbed to the man's strength and looked down to avoid his gaze, shaking her head. The man's eyes never opened, but they deemed an observing look. He then looked at her clothes and her mused hair from dust and dirt and brought her inside. "Well," he said, with a small smile. "We'd love to have you stay a while. My name's Sho. And you are?"

"A flame was kindled..."
It had been about 100 years since Mai had been accepted into the Kimura household. Along with her, 5 others were also taken in by Sho and Rei Kimura. At the time, it was apparent that Mai would harbor her self-confidence and spoke little to the other village children. She kept her golden eyes down low, looking at her feet as she walked past the others and rushed back home after running errands, solely because they made her look like a feline animal. "Look! It's the cat demon girl!" a boy snickered, pointing out a finger as she scurried by. A crowd of boys and girls shrewdly picked up pebbles and began to throw them at her. "H-hey...! she stammered. "C-cut it out!!"
With snickering in her ears, Mai quickly bolted to the Kimura household, and tripped on her newly salmon colored dress. As a result, the other children laughed loudly at her, as she frantically picked up market supplies. "Go on back to your shack! We know your parents never wanted you anyways!" one of them bellowed. It was then, that one of Mai's nerves had been broken. A heat broke loose in her body, and a blindness took over her as she felt her fist hit the boy who had made the remark. The others had slowly backed away and bolted for their homes. A broken bottle of pickled vegetable laid by her doorstep as her adoptive older brother, Michi stepped outside to see what the screaming was all about. Mai towered over the boy, shaggy-haired and tattered from hitting the ground. He whimpered, staring at her menacing glare and quickly apologized. Before Mai could respond, Michi walked over and put a hand on her shoulder. He could see she was shaking with both anger and guilt. He motioned with his eyes for the boy to go, and he did so, with his hand on his cheek. "Heh...that's going to leave quite a mark." he whispered to Mai quietly. He knew the poor girl didn't have it in her to hurt someone, but he didn't blame her for her action either. Michi felt a pair of arms clutch his waist and warm tears soak his kimono. He sighed and picked her up over his shoulder, even if she was getting to be a bit bigger. "Hey now," Michi said, softly. "It's fine, Okaasan won't be mad. And I hate pickled vegetables anyway."

Time Frame? 423 years ago.
"Chained to a burning desire..."
Had the heat flashes been stoic, Mai would consider herself normal. But she, and the rest of her family knew she was anything but that. During the hours of the night, Mai would feel a heat in her abdomen that would soon engulf her head in a excruciating and hot pain. As a result, Mai would clutch herself and scream out in pain. Sho, the stressed adopted father, and wife Rei were worried that they were fevers occurring from Mai overworking herself. Instead of sending her on errands, she would relax at home under the care of Rei. She wasn't really the soft-hearted mother that anyone expected. She would smoke tobacco from her long pipe all day and cook often with pickled vegetables. Harsh words always left her mouth like, "Tell your old-farted father to piss off!" or A sumo wrestler would look more decent in that as opposed to you." Nevertheless, she had a soft spot for her children, and that was what others hadn't seen. Sho was practically a full-time pushover when it came to making decisions, so Rei would act as the harsh filter. Falling sick had only made Rei and Sho more colorful in character, as Rei would cook some of Mai's favorite foods and make Michi, Koji, Jun, Maria, and Liliana run the errands. Sho would take Mai swimming to cool her off, and only temporarily would it work. Favoring his eldest adopted daughter, Sho would put Maria and Koji in time out for teasing her only to let them out in a matter of minutes.
But Mai's condition was critical, and didn't seem to get any better. She enjoyed the care she was receiving, though everything that was tried to make her feel even the slightest bit normal, had no affect. It was the worst when she was alone, the heat would begin to affect the room itself, and she'd resort to staying outside for a while in desperation for a breeze. On one of those nights, she had taken a carving knife and a block of wood to keep herself busy. When shaving off small strokes, the wings of a bird began to form as the scent of smokey wood arose from the small sculpture. As she finished the details of the feathers and the beak, she looked at it in weary admiration. Setting it down had suddenly summoned a blazing flame and a wide golden eyes from Mai. She began to panic, trying to douse the flame with a heavy cloth, and yet, that had caught aflame as well.
Shielding herself, Mai looked to find a large phoenix bird, with glorious red feathers and radiant eyes. Expecting it to caw loudly, it had spoken to her instead. "You will come to know my name, Mai Kimura." it said. And with its disappearance, a bouquet of lilies lay wrapped in the cloth used to shoo the fire away.
A painful confusion lingered with Mai as she had told her second eldest brother Koji. "Heh...I knew you were weird!" he laughed jokingly. But his face turned sullen afterward. "You know what it means though...don't you?" Mai had a blank face and shook her head. Koji laughed again. "Well, you'll figure it out eventually." he said.
After telling her father, Sho had come the conclusion of helping Mai out. "Mai-chan, those lilies are beautiful. They are delicate treasures this time of year." he said softly, as he left. Mai stared at the abnormally small flowers for the rest of the day and became full of anger at night, causing another heat flash. What was the damn bird's name...?! The pain was excruciating enough for her to realize when she ran outside in the middle of the night. "...S-Sayuri... Your name is Sayuri hi Yuri...!" she exclaimed in a sweat, grasping the little lilies to her chest.
A cool wind swept Mai to the ground in exhaustion as a flame appeared in front of her. A figure stepped out of the heat and slowly crept up to Mai. Surprisingly it was not the phoenix, but a woman with crimson eyes and hair approached her with one of the little lilies in her hand. Sayuri smiled as she held a hand out to Mai and helped her up. Astonished by the air of familiarity between them, she smiled back. "Took you long enough..." she said.

Zanpakutō Activation Statement | "Sukōchi (Scorch), Sayuri hi Yuri!"
Zanpakutō Blade Changes | Shikai When released, the sword turns into an almost trident-like weapon. The pole around five feet in length, the blades adding another foot-and-a-half in length. The blunt end has a few chain links, and attached, a small gold ribbon. There are two main blades on the sides of the pole. The blades turn downward, then curve upward, and right after the curve, the blades split, creating four blades in total. At the center of the blades rest a gold ring with a large spike protruding out of the pole and blades. The center spike is slightly longer than the four blades. When the weapon is swung around during battle, it naturally releases flames from the blades. Mai can use her spiritual pressure to control the intensity and amount of fire that comes out.
Shikai Abilities
Ability One "Fenikkusu no hane no rasshu" (Lash of Phoenix Feathers)
Mai can summon three large golden feathers that levitate around Mai. The feathers will lash out at the opponent while she is fighting causing decent physical damage. These feathers though, can be broken by the opponent with a couple good hits (5-7 hits; lasts depending on how many times she is hit and takes a 10 post cool down ).
Ability Two "Hane no hi no dansu" (Feather Fire Dance)
A defensive and offensive ability where Mai spins her weapon above her head, creating a whirlwind of fire that shoots out sharp feathers engulfed in flame. They reach a distance of about 14 feet, and coming in contact with the feathers causes them to self-destruct. It is usually used when the opponent is too close (Lasts for 8 posts and needs 8 posts to regenerate).

The end of it remains in the hands of the user, allowing them to control the path of the tendril before and after capture. The Kidō can connect with another one of itself, if both have captured a target, and bind them together.
