 Paper Lantern had mentioned to Hard Truths that another colt had a ship. The unicorn wasn't sure to believe it and, if he did, to what extent. Was it a toy ship? It hadn't sounded like it from the way the flutter had described. He didn't exactly want Paper to know of his doubts, so he didn't ask him about where he could find the ship-owning foal, but he already had a lead.
If there was, indeed, a real ship, then it was likely to be around water. And the largest body of water that Hard Truths knew of was the Phonyland Lagoon. With this in mind, he made his way to said lagoon, unsure of what he would find.Ruriska ((As always, please let me know if there's anything I need to change!))

Hard Truths would find an actual pirate ship moored in the middle of the lagoon. Even at the distance it was sitting from shore, the curvy red script reading 'The Flirty Mermaid' was legible. Jolly Roger was down at the small wooden dock, checking over boxes of supplies before he started loading them into the wooden boat. He was wearing his customary scowl, though this time genuinely annoyed because apparently he'd forgotten the apples. The apples.

Yellow-gold eyes widened at the sight of the ship as it gradually came into view. "Well...at least I know I found the right place," he murmured to himself as he regarded the glorified boat in the water. "But 'The Flirty Mermaid'? Really?" He hoped its name said nothing of its owner or he would be out of there in ten seconds flat.
As he approached the edge of the lagoon, however, he saw a young unicorn about his age with an eyepatch and stared. Right...the owner was a foal like him. He'd almost forgotten. "Don't tell me that thing is yours," Truths called to the green colt, watching him load up his ship. It had been a while since he'd met another unicorn like himself, let alone a boy one. "What, did you get a wooden toy for Christmas and use your magic to enlarge it or something?" Because where else in Phonyland could he have gotten it? Truths would have dearly liked to know.

Jolly Roger was still muttering about his apples when Hard Truths arrived. He turned one suspicious eye upon the red colt and answered the first question with a single, " aye." He turned away and began loading the supplies into smaller boat, preparing it for the short voyage to the ship. Jolly Roger didn't even bother giving a reply to the second question. Enlarging a ship with magic? How ridiculous. He made a scornful sort of noise in the back of his throat.

"'Aye'?" Truths repeated, looking incredulous. "'Aye', what?" Did that mean 'yes', or was he actually talking about his visible eye? Or maybe the fact he was missing one? Maybe he actually meant 'I' as in reference to himself and had just been beginning a sentence but was slow or thinking. Was he even speaking English?
But even if he meant 'yes', which question of Truths had he meant to affirm? That the ship was his? That it had been a wooden toy? That he'd used magic on it? Or was he, perhaps, agreeing to everything? It seemed impossible to say. The vermillion colt was all for cutting back on unnecessary words as well as condensing speech to be more direct and efficient in one's communication. But this? This was just ridiculous.
The noise of scorn, however, was what really got to him. He snorted as his temper rose to avenge his slightly wounded pride. "Let's try this again," he said, drawing in a deep breath. "I'm Hard Truths. I'd like to know your name, if you are the owner of that boat, and, if so, how you happened to obtain it." His frown twisted into a contemptful scowl. "If you even know how to speak proper sentences, that is."

The pirate stopped working, dropping the basket back in place and turned to Hard Truths with a withering one-eyed stare. There was a very long silence, in which is seemed he would not even deign to answer. "Aye," he said finally, letting that single word hang in the air before he continued, "she belongs to me and my crew." He eyed the red colt disdainfully. It was hardly any of his business where the ship had come from. Jolly Roger loaded the basket into the dinghy and continued to scowl right back. "We dragged her from the bowls of the ocean, the kraken still wrapped across her bow and only with blood and sweat did we claim her as our own." It was hard to tell, with his serious glower, if he was being serious or not.

"So your name is 'Aye'?" the vermillion foal snapped, clearly losing his patience. "What crew is this of yours? A ghost crew? Imaginary?" he asked, glancing around as if to spot said phonies. "I see no one else. Or are they all on that ship?"
What utter nonsense! 'Bowls of the ocean'? 'Kraken'? Perhaps this unicorn had spent a little too much time at sea. Or swallowed too much salt water or something. If the lake water was even salty. "Right..." he growled.
"Well, 'Aye', a foal I know told me I could find a certain phony called 'Jolly Roger' here. Perhaps he can give me some proper answers. But since you are obviously the farthest from 'jolly' I've known in a pony, you couldn't possibly be him. Therefore I ask that you take me to your captain at once."
