A good article, though there are some conclusions he draws that I disagree with but overall a good article. Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting. There's a few things I need to look up in my Bible to see for myself, and there's probably a few things I'm not quite sure I agree with, but overall I think it was accurate.

I don't believe that 'headship' was an old term, I do think that it still applies today. Headship doesn't mean what most people draw from it. Men are called to be the heads of their families as Christ is the head of the church. They are called to be the leaders of their family - to lead them in the way that they should go to draw closer to Christ.

I do really like though how the writer of the article brought up Proverbs and Esther, as well as Deborah and many other women of the Bible who were more than just housewives and mothers. Not that there's anything wrong with being a housewife/mother if that's where God's called you to be, but I do believe that God calls women to preach, to teach and to do other things to serve his ministry.

Wonderful article. This is something particularly important to me because "sexism in the Bible" is something many unbelievers-- and believers-- think they can catch me on. wink Sadly, this even includes my own father who thinks such misapplied beliefs are Biblical (a scathing comment he once made to me was "All women need to be removed from the workforce" which is quite hypocritical considering his history of marrying working women).

I know a good book everyone can read which will help clear up quite a bit about the Bible's picture of women. It's called "All the Women of the Bible" by Edith Deen. Each chapter is dedicated to each woman mentioned in the Bible-- from Eve to Mary and beyond. It gives clarity on cultural references and very good description of the women's habits, beliefs, etc. For instance, the theme in the story of Ruth has a lot to do with the fact that Naomi relied heavily on men to take care of her-- mourning extensively over the death of her husband and sons, believing herself now useless without them-- but Ruth does not live the same way. She is every modern feminist's dream in her independence and strong work ethic, without seeking the support of men, while at the same time living a God-focused life. Since being God-focused cannot come by disobeying His Word, it is obvious that Ruth's choice to work out in Boaz's field to support herself and her mother was written quite clearly into God's plans.
