Oura’thir, pets, and Little Gods have fairly flexible naming standards. All we ask is that you don't name them common or modern human names (Ex: Tom, Jane, Sally) or names derived from objects and concepts that don't exist in this world (Ex: Radioactive) or anything really silly. If you attempt to name your pet with an inappropriate name, you will be notified and your pet will not be certed until an appropriate name is chosen.
Drow characters have more restrictive naming conventions, unfortunately, but don't worry: there's still plenty of flexibility within them. They cannot be given English names; the drow language is a particular dialect of elven, and as such has a certain sound. It's usually fairly heavy on consonants and 'z' and 'x' sounds.
Examples of first names include:
Male: Balok, Belaern, Jaezred, Szordrin, Xaran, and of course the infamous Zaknafein and Drizzt.
Female: Amalica, Beszrima, Chadra, Miz'ri, Zarra.
Sometimes a drow will take a nickname (such as Shadow or River) and use it in place of their given name, but they will always have a drow-elven language given name.
Surnames are more flexible. Thanks to the long period of time the drow spent wandering the deep reaches as nomads, there are few family names left. As often as not, a non-noble drow's surname is related to what he does for a living or something distinctive about him (Baker, or One-Thumb). Sometimes, they are related to the deeds of the drow or of an ancestor of theirs (Moonshadow, Soft-step). Noble houses are a slightly different story; they take pride in their ancestry or at least the semblance thereof, and many prefer to take drow-language surnames as well. Every member of the house will use that surname, and even servants will introduce themselves as being "of House X" rather than using their own surname.
Drow-language surnames tend to be longer and more complex than individual first names. Examples include: Tanarach'tyr, Ozvelen'lyth, Vorzalastran
